• iPhone Text entry with completion and DONE button (not search)

  Using iPhone SDK 3.0, I wish to allow text entry with (optional) completion options that appear as typing is occurring, i.e. also allowing freeformat entry. As such I am using a UISearchBar (which has the text change events) and a UISearchDisplayController to present options. The problems is I want the DONE button to say DONE and not SEARCH, however I cannot find a way to set that. Clearly I feel I am missing something, or Interface Builder of the SDK API would have some property to set. I have seen other apps (in the store) that have achieved the result I want (free format entry, completion, DONE button) so maybe there is an alternative approach I am missing. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

• Disqus-like comment server

  I'm looking at setting up a blog, and I think I want to go the static website compiler route, rather than the perhaps more conventional Wordpress route. I'm looking at using blogofile, but could use jekyll as well. These tools recommend using disqus to embed a javascript comment widget on blog posts. I'd go that route, but I'd rather host the comments myself, rather than use a third party. I could certainly write my own dirt-simple comment server, but I was wondering if anyone knew of one that already exists (of the open source variety). Thanks!

• Rendering performance in FlasCC + UDK when compared to Stage3d and UDK on Windows?

  Adobe recently released the Flash C++ Compiler, which UDK uses to target Flash Player. Developers can now access UDK for browser applications. Does this mean greater performance than using a Stage3D engine (Away3D 4) and how much of a noticeable difference in performance would it make in rendering speeds? Is there any benchmark you could propose that would allow to compare them fairly? I am asking this to help myself understand the consequences in performance for deciding to use UDK in a browser based game. I would also like to know how it compares with UDK running natively in Windows? I am not asking which technology to use or which is better. Only interested in optimizing rendering speed in a 3d browser game with flash.

SmartPaster2010.AddIn, SmartPaster2010.dll, SmartPaster2010.xml Edit: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/19dax6cz.aspx says: "To install the add-in on another computer, the .addin file must be placed in a location where Visual Studio checks for add-ins. These locations are listed in the Options dialog box, in the Environment node, on the Add-in/Macros Security page." I went to Tools Options Environment Add-In/Macro Security, checked some paths put the AddIn files in a couple of these directoryies, restart VS2010 but still no luck!

• Design view not working in Web Projects in Visual Studio 2008

  When I try to edit an ASPX file with the Design View it freezes for a moment and does nothing, not even an error message. Looking through menus I've seen some strange things: If I go to Tools-Options-HTML Designer it gives me no options on the right panel, just a "Error loading property page" message. When I try to open a file using "Open With..." there should be something like "Web Form - Editor", but it is missing and I can only open them using Code View. I've tried repairing Visual Studio and reinstalling WebDesignerCore, but nothing works. Anyone had the same problem?

• ::LookupAccountSid API Extremely Slow When Targetting x64 Platform (Windows 7)

  During our application startup, we are making a call to ::LookupAccountSid(). When I build targetting the x86 architecture, this call is nearly instantaneous. However, when I target x64 (debug or release), the call generally takes over 40s to complete. Since this is occurring during application startup, the result is fairly unpleasant as it will appear to the user that the application is not launching. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Dell Studio XPS 16 (Intel Core i7 Q 720). Our application is a native Windows application written in C++. • Only some windows shell commands work via ruby?

  Hi. I'm trying to use a script to control my power options since XP doesn't give you an intuitive way to change CPU Frequency options. Here's my script so far: meh = `cmd.exe /C POWERCFG.EXE /QUERY Portable/Laptop` puts "" puts meh case input when 1 then system('cmd.exe /C POWERCFG.EXE /CHANGE Portable/Laptop /processor-throttle-ac NONE') when 2 then system('cmd.exe /C POWERCFG.EXE /CHANGE Portable/Laptop /processor-throttle-ac ADAPTIVE') when 3 then `cmd.exe /C POWERCFG.EXE /CHANGE Portable/Laptop /processor-throttle-ac CONSTANT` end The problem is that the changes simply don't take place. If I run the same commands directly into a cmd.exe prompt, they work. It's very strange, but nothing works after the initial powercfg query. I feel like I'm missing something incredibly obvious. How can I get the above script to run correctly?

• Page load problem

  Hi, I am devolping a web application.the problem is that i am using a login control (not a .NET control) which is a part of master page and is acessible from all pages. if user log In from a page the login control updates itself and displlay some statistics of logged In user but the specific page does not reload. (some options on page are visible only to authenticated users, so that after login, page should be reloaded to display such options) after logIn methoed I wrote Reponse.Redirect(Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) after this the browser response the "Page cannot be displayed" It would be of great help to me. • WWDC 2012 announced features on iOS 5?

  I am relatively new to iOS development, so after watching a bunch of WWDC videos announcing new awesome features for the iPhone SDK, I still got a few questions regarding their support for older devices. Specifically: Do the new compiler features (such as literals support, auto-synthesize, etc) require iOS 6 on the target device, or can the new style code be deployed to iOS 5 devices? Auto-layout for iOS, same question. Will it only be supported on iOS 6, or 5 as well? If it's 6 only, what kind of fallback are we expected to implement? Would really appreciate if someone could clarify this for me, as I'm thinking about rewriting my older unfinished project and I would love to use some of that improved SDK functionality.

• Cinema4D XML scene not rendering texture

  I was playing with the Cinema 4D command line options and ran into a problem that might not be specific to the command line options. I saved a basic scene(a textured cube) in two formats: the original .c4d(binary) format and .xml(Cinema 4D XML via File Export). the .c4d file renders with the texture applied, while the .xml file renders without the texture applied. I had a look at the xml file, and there is a node that holds a reference to the image used as texture, and there is another node which seems to store the pixels in xml. When I opened the .xml document in Cinema 4D, the document did store the material with the texture, but it was not applied to the object. Am I missing something when I export to XML ? How can I export a Cinema 4D XML that can render with the texture applied ?

  I am very new to JavaScript and only have the most basic understanding of how it works, so please bear with me. :) I'm using the jquery.innerfade.js script to create a slideshow with fade transitions for a website I'm developing, and I have added navigation buttons (which are set as background-images) that navigate between the “slides”. The navigation buttons have three states: default/off, hover, and on (each state is a separate image). I created a separate JavaScript document to set the buttons to “on” when they are clicked. The “hover” state is achieved through the CSS. Both the slideshow and the navigation buttons work well. There is just one thing I want to add: I would like the appropriate navigation button to display as “on” while the related “slide” is “playing”. • VB.net Edit-And-Continue: ignore "unable to apply this change while debugging"

  When using VB.Net (2008) and paused in debugging, Edit-And-Continue is a great time-saver. However if you change any module/class-level information (variable, sub/function signature, etc), you get the error message like this: "unable to apply this change while debugging" While I can understand the technical challenge to making this work (and why it would be hard), it leaves me in a tight spot with just a few options: 1) Restart and recompile and get the program back to the same state 2) Continue debugging without making the change, and risk forgetting 3) Type up a reminder note to make the change All of which are annoying. Now I know that option '4) Just actually make the change' may not be possible. but does anybody know how to enable the following 'technically easy' possibility? 4) Let me change the code, get it flagged with the purple squiggly underline, so I can save it, but just ignore the change until recompile I have checked the Tools|options|debug|edit and continue, nothing appears to let me do this. thanks!

  We need to choose the reporting engine for our ASP.NET application. The main functional requirement is an ability for end users (not programmers, just normal users) to create custom reports. We will be using SQL Server as a database so I am aware of some options: SQL Server Reporting services, Crystal Reports, Active Reports, even WindwardReports. But frankly speaking I've never used any of those except Reporting services and it's quite difficult to choose which one suits the best to customer needs of custom reports creation. Is it possible to get some pros and cons for these options or at least your advice on what would be better to use in this case. Thanks a lot.

  Have just started scripting in Unreal Script and am following the instructions of the opening chapter of a book on the subject. I have set the development tools up as described in the book such that it is now possible to compile the scripts for UDK before adding them to a level. My issue is: the very first script the book asks you to compile is the following: class AwesomeActor extends Actor placeable; defaultproperties { Begin Object Class=SpriteComponent Name = Sprite Sprite = Texture2D'EditorResources.S_NavP' End Object Components.Add(Sprite) } And when I hit F9 in the compiler I get the following error message: Error, BEGIN OBJECT: Must specify valid name for suboject/copmponent: Begin Object class=SpriteComponent name = Sprite My question: As far as I'm aware I've copied the code from the book veribatim including capital and smaller case letters but I'm getting this error and I was wondering if anyone knew why and if so how I would fix it?

  Hi, I am trying to create an array with different href's to then attach to 5 separate elements. This is my code: var link = new Array('link1', 'link2', 'link3', 'link4', 'link5'); $(document.createElement("li")) .attr('class',options.numericId + (i+1)) .html('<a rel='+ i +' href=\"page.php# + 'link'\">'+ '</a>') .appendTo($("."+ options.numericId)) As you can see I am trying to append these items from the array to the end of my page so each link will take the user to a different section of the page. But i have not been able to do this. Is there a way to to create elements with different links? I am new to javascript so I am sorry if this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. • Reverse proxy for a REST web service using ADFS/AD and WebApi

  I need to implement a reverse proxy for a REST webservice behind a firewall. The reverse proxy should authenticate against an enterprise ADFS 2.0 server, preferably using claims in .net 4.5. The clients will be a mix of iOS, Android and web. I’m completely new to this topic; I’ve tried to implement the service as a REST service using WebApi, WIF and the new Identity and Access control in VS 2012, with no luck. I have also tried to look into Brock Allen’s Thinktecture.IdentityModel.45, however then my head was spinning so I didn’t see the difference between it and Windows Identity Foundation with the Identity and Access control. So I think I need to step back and get some advice on how to do this. There are several ways to this, as far as I understand it. In hardware. Set up our Citrix Netscaler as a reverse proxy. I have no idea how to do that, however if it’s a good solution I can always hire someone who knows… Do it in the webserver, like IIS. I haven’t tried it; do not know if it will work. Create a web service to do it. 3.1 Implement it as a SOAP service using WCF. As I understand it ADFS do not support REST so I have to use SOAP. The problem is mobile device do not like SOAP, neither do I… However if it’s the best way, I have to do it. 3.2 Use Azure Access Control Service. It might work, however the timing is not good. Our enterprise is considering several cloud options, and us jumping on the azure wagon on our own might not be the smartest thing to do right now. However if it is the only options, we can do it. I just prefer not to use it right now. Right now I feel there are too many options, and I do not know which one will work. If someone can point me in the right directions, which path to pursue, I would be very grateful.

• Why are people using C instead of C++? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: When to use C over C++, and C++ over C? Many times I've stumbled upon people saying that C++ is not always better than C. Great example here would be the Linux kernel, where they simply decided to use C instead of C++ because it had better compilers at the time. But that's many years ago and a lot has changed. So the question is, why are people still using C over C++? I gues there are probably some cases (like embedded devices), where there simply isn't a good C++ compiler, or am I wrong here? What are the other cases when it is better to go with C instead of C++?
