  Hi, I know theres hundred of questions and answers out there, but cant find one to specifically answer this. I need a web editor that will let me choose a dark themed editor. I understand gvim is one, but im not totally ready to let go of my mouse. I would like something like sublime text editor for windows, but open to other suggestions. The less bloat the best. I dont need a full IDE like eclipse, but willing to compromise, as long as the themes can easily be added. I've tried bluefish, kompozer and not happy with them. Just need a basic text editor that will highlight php syntax on a dark background.

The error thrown is OutputStream is not available when a custom TextWriter is used.

A lot of people also have a serious dislike for cvs. In many places I have heard a lot of differing opinions on whether or not using VSS or cvs is better or worse then using no source control, please rate the worst and explain why!!!!! you rated them this way. Feel free to throw in your own horrible system in the rankings. If you feel it depends on the circumstances try to explain the some of the different scenarios which lead to different rankings. (note:I see a lot of discussion of what is better but little of what is worse.) second note: while both answers are nice I'm looking less for good replacements and more for a comparison of which is worse and more importantly why!

  I know, different forms of this questions were asked on this site multiple times, but I haven't seen a single answer that would satisfy my need. I need a ASP.NET based blogging engine that wouul use SQL Server as a back end and allow multiple independet blogs in one app instance. I'm writing a community website for major bank and blogging is the piece I'm not sure about. Answers to other questions include a broad spectrum from BlogEngine.NET (doesn't support multiple blogs) to CommunityServer (a beast! blogging is just asmall piece of it). I don't want to install a full-blown CRM and just use blogging, I want a blogging engine. I don't mind to buy a commercial one but I can't find one. I'm pretty much stuck, and any ideas are highly appreciated!

• Delphi : Handling the fact that Strings are not Objects

  I am trying to write a function that takes any TList and returns a String representation of all the elements of the TList. I tried a function like so function ListToString(list:TList<TObject>):String; This works fine, except you can't pass a TList to it. E2010 Incompatible types: 'TList<System.TObject>' and 'TList<System.string>' In Delphi, a String is not an Object. To solve this, I've written a second function: function StringListToString(list:TList<string>):String; Is this the only solution? Are there other ways to treat a String as more 'object-like'? In a similar vein, I also wanted to write an 'equals' function to compare two TLists. Again I run into the same problem function AreListsEqual(list1:TList<TObject>; list2:TList<TObject>):boolean; Is there any way to write this function (perhaps using generics?) so it can also handle a TList? Are there any other tricks or 'best practises' I should know about when trying to create code that handles both Strings and Objects? Or do I just create two versions of every function? Can generics help? I am from a Java background but now work in Delphi. It seems they are lately adding a lot of things to Delphi from the Java world (or perhaps the C# world, which copied them from Java). Like adding equals() and hashcode() to TObject, and creating a generic Collections framework etc. I'm wondering if these additions are very practical if you can't use Strings with them.

  I've read (and re-read) Martin Fowler's Mocks Aren't Stubs. In it, he defines two different approaches to TDD: "Classical" and "Mockist". He attempts to answer the question "So should I be a classicist or a mockist?", but he admits that he has never tried mockist TDD on "anything more than toys." So I thought I'd ask the question here. Good answers may repeat Fowler's arguments (but hopefully more clearly) or add arguments that he didn't think of or that others have come up with since Fowler last updated the essay back in January 2007.

• Can you automatically create a mysqldump file that doesn't enforce foreign key constraints?

  When I run a mysqldump command on my database and then try to import it, it fails as it attempts to create the tables alphabetically, even though they may have a foreign key that references a table later in the file. There doesn't appear to be anything in the documentation and I've found answers like this that say to update the file after it's created to include: set FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 0; ...original mysqldump file contents... set FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 1; Is there no way to automatically set those lines or export the tables in the necessary order (without having to manually specify all table names as that can be tedious and error prone)? I could wrap those lines in a script, but was wondering if there is an easy way to ensure I can dump a file and then import it without manually updating it.

• What is a Web Framework ? How does it compare with LAMP

  I started web development in LAMP/WAMP and it was logical to me . There is a Web Server program called Apache which does the networking part of setting up a service on port 80 ( common port ) . If the request is regular HTML it uses the HTTP headers to transport files .And if the request for the file is a PHP one , it has a mod_php with which Apache invokes the PHP interpreter to process the file and it gives back HTML which is again transferred as usual HTML . Now the question is what is a Web Framework ? I came across Python based website creation and there is Flask . What is a flask , how does it compare with LAMP . Further are DJango / Ruby on Rails different from flask ? Can someone answer me and also give some good places to read on these .Thanks for your answers in advance . Further is things like LAMP slower than the common FRAMEWORKS because they claimn easy deplyment fo web apps .

  Hello, I'm employed at a fairly big company here in Germany and got the job to create the main website for it which will feature: Static contents; Information and Presentations An employee area (around 6000 employees) featuring various things from calenders, job descriptions, some sort of groups Too many other dynamic things I can't list here I have decided to use COBOL for the job, it may be very underrated but it is a very powerful language, especially for business apps and, as my co-workers say, web (2.0) development too. I also need to use COBOL because all the backend and transactions system of the company is programmed in it (some small parts were programmed in LISP too, idk exactly why). I also have received an API that makes it possible to use COBOL with MySQL easily. This is a big project and it will probably take more than 2 months programming it. What do I have to expect when building a huge web app in COBOL? Are there web frameworks for COBOL available? Some sort of MVC? Are there any good resources for practical web-development with COBOL? • Infopath form publishing and root content type ?

  Hi, I have several infopath 2010 form template that I want to publish to a form library in SharePoint 2010 Server with enterprise CaL. All of this forms have a common part (a template part actually). Is it possible to define a common "parent" content type of this forms ? In fact, I want : Form content type (SP OOB) My root form content type, with standard columns "requester", "process name", etc. Form 1 Form 2 etc. other unrelated form 1 other unrelated form 2 Instead of the standard behavior : Form content type (SP OOB) Form 1 Form 2 other unrelated form 1 other unrelated form 2 etc. Behind this question I want to be able to create a dashboard of all form request using a content query web, by simply specifying the content type ... One last word: the idea is to allow a customer (assuming its knowledge is limited to IP 2010 basic form design). • Django Photologue - use photo with original compression

  hi, I´m uploading photos with Django Photologue. Is it possible to leave the jpgs as the are? Even if I tell photosize to use Highest Quality compression the files end up having half as many kb as the originals. I must admit that the visable loss of quality is small but as i am a photographer i would like the images to apear exactly as i edited them (photoshop). I don´t need any of photosize´s cropping and effects tools. Can it be turned off completely? thanks for your answers.

My question is how can i prevent panelClickHandler function got fired when i click button in the "Load" (custom component)?? pleas explain bubbling with good example ( like to have with custom event classes)?

  Hi, everybody. I need to turn HTML into equivalent Markdown-structured text. From what I could discover, I have only two good choices: Python: Aaron Swartz's html2text.py Ruby: Singpolyma's html2markdown.rb As I am programming in PHP, I need to pass the HTML code, call the Ruby/Python Script and receive the output back. I started creating a simple test just to know if my server was configured to run both languages. PHP code: echo exec('./hi.rb'); Ruby code: #!/usr/bin/ruby puts "Hello World!" It worked fine and I am ready to go to the next step. Unfortunately, all I know is that the function is Ruby works like this: HTML2Markdown.new('<h1>HTMLcode</h1>').to_s I don't know how to make PHP pass the string (with the HTML code) to Ruby nor how to make the ruby script receive the variable and pass it back to PHP (after have parsed it into Markdown). Believe it or not: I know less of Python. A folk made a similar question here ("how to call ruby script from php?") but with no practical information to my case. Any help would be a joy - thanks. • Android: Is there a universal way to send the MMS on any android devices?

• Searching a table MySQL & PHP.

  I want to be able to search through a MySQL table using values from a search string, from the url and display the results as an XML output. I think I have got the formatting and declaring the variables from the search string down. The issue I have is searching the entire table, I've looked over SO for previous answers, and they all seem to have to declare each column in the table to search through. So for example my database layout is as follows: **filesindex** -filename -creation -length -wall -playlocation First of all would the following be appropriate: $query = "SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE filename LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE creation LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE length LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE wall LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE location LIKE '".$searchterm."%'"; Or ideally, is there an easier way that involves less hardcoding to search a table.   Here is a tricky situation, and i wonder what ways there are to solve it namespace { template <class T> struct Template { /* ... */ }; } typedef Template<int> Template; Sadly, the Template typedef interferes with the Template template in the unnamed namespace. When you try to do Template<float> in the global scope, the compiler raises an ambiguity error between the template name and the typedef name. You don't have control over either the template name or the typedef-name. Now I want to know whether it is possible to: Create an object of the typedefed type Template (i.e Template<int>) in the global namespace. Create an object of the type Template<float> in the global namespace. You are not allowed to add anything to the unnamed namespace. Everything should be done in the global namespace. This is out of curiosity because i was wondering what tricks there are for solving such an ambiguity. It's not a practical problem i hit during daily programming.

• Div that appears behind other. How to avoid that behaivor?

  Hello there... I'm using JQuery for this. The problem is that, when I drag an object from the side bar, the DIV that I'm dragging appears behind the main area, thus it looks really bad. • Decoupling the view, presentation and ASP.NET Web Forms

  I have an ASP.NET Web Forms page which the presenter needs to populate with controls. This interaction is somewhat sensitive to the page-life cycle and I was wondering if there's a trick to it, that I don't know about. I wanna be practical about the whole thing but not compromise testability. Currently I have this: public interface ISomeContract { void InstantiateIn(System.Web.UI.Control container); } This contract has a dependency on System.Web.UI.Control and I need that to be able to do things with the ASP.NET Web Forms programming model. But neither the view nor the presenter may have knowledge about ASP.NET server controls. How do I get around this? How can I work with the ASP.NET Web Forms programming model in my concrete views without taking a System.Web.UI.Control dependency in my contract assemblies? To clarify things a bit, this type of interface is all about UI composition (using MEF). It's known through-out the framework but it's really only called from within the concrete view. The concrete view is still the only thing that knows about ASP.NET Web Forms. However those public methods that say InstantiateIn(System.Web.UI.Control) exists in my contract assemblies and that implies a dependency on ASP.NET Web Forms. I've been thinking about some double dispatch mechanism or even visitor pattern to try and work around this.

  I've worked with folks who are chatting online with their peers, constantly batting around ideas. I've also worked with folks who adamantly refuse and think it's a waste of time. Are online live chatting forums of particular use to you? Why or why not? Internal to your company, or external and world-wide? Does your employer encourage or discourage their use? Update: I see some people are voting this question down, yet so far all the answers have been positive, if with some reservations. If someone has a strong negative opinion (I hate online chatting and think it should be banned etc.) I'd really like to hear why.

• ASP.Net: Scheduled tasks in a shared environment.

  This is really an extension of this question, which asked the best way to schedule tasks which need to be performed periodically within ASP.NET in a normal environment. However, I would like to ask this specifically for a Shared Hosting Environment (most of the answers to the previous question would not work in a shared environment as far as I know). One obvious solution would be to have a page which is responsible to performing the tasks on the hosted machine, and call this page from another machine (that you have full control over) using e.g. a windows scheduled task. This is a bit nasty though - are there any better approaches?

• dynamic silverlight content

  I am starting a silverlight project where I have tests for students to complete. I want to have some sort of framework so I can build the tests and store them in a database, delivering the content dynamically so I can continually develop new types of tests without having to re-deply the application. The content will have to be more than just xaml, as there may need to be some logic to determine if answers are correct, or to do some random generation of questions. I'm looking for suggestions on how to go about building a framework that supports this. Are there some best practices, or examples? Should each test type just be a seperate silverlight control, or should I use 1 silverlight "container" application that can display dynamic content?

  I have a web service with following operation contract and my service is hosted at http://localhost:9002/Service.svc/ [OperationContract] [WebGet(UriTemplate = "/Files/{Filepath}")] Stream DownloadFile(string Filepath); This web service would let users download file, if the proper filepath is provided (assuming, I somehow find out that proper filepath). Now, I can access this service from a browser by typing, http://localhost:9002/Service.svc/Files/(Filepath} If {filepath} is some simple string, its not a problem, but I want to send the location of the file. Lets us say users want to download file C:\Test.mp3 on the server. But how can I pass C:\Test.mp3 as {Filepath}? I get an error when I type http://localhost:9002/Service.svc/Files/C:\Test.mp3 in the browser. I am new to web services and find that this community is the quickest way to get answers to my questions.
