  • OpenGL fast texture drawing with vertex buffer objects. Is this the way to do it?

    Hello. I am making a 2D game with OpenGL. I would like to speed up my texture drawing by using VBOs. Currently I am using the immediate mode. I am generating my own coordinates when I rotate and scale a texture. I also have the functionality of rounding the corners of a texture, using the polygon primitive to draw those. I was thinking, would it be fastest to make a VBO with vertices for the sides of the texture with no offset included so I can then use glViewport, glScale (Or glTranslate? What is the difference and most suitable here?) and glRotate to move the drawing position for my texture. Then I can use the same VBO with no changes to draw the texture each time. I could only change the VBO when I need to add coordinates for the rounded corners. Is that the best way to do this? What things should I look out for while doing it? Is it really fastest to use GL_TRIANGLES instead of GL_QUADS in modern graphics cards? Thank you for any answer.

  • Is there any class in the .NET Framework to represent a holding container for objects?

    I am looking for a class that defines a holding structure for an object. The value for this object could be set at a later time than when this container is created. It is useful to pass such a structure in lambdas or in callback functions etc. Say: class HoldObject<T> { public T Value { get; set; } public bool IsValueSet(); public void WaitUntilHasValue(); } // and then we could use it like so ... HoldObject<byte[]> downloadedBytes = new HoldObject<byte[]>(); DownloadBytes("http://www.stackoverflow.com", sender => downloadedBytes.Value = sender.GetBytes()); It is rather easy to define this structure, but I am trying to see if one is available in FCL. I also want this to be an efficient structure that has all needed features like thread safety, efficient waiting etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Using nginx to rewrite urls inside outgoing responses

    We have a customer with a site running on Apache. Recently the site has been seeing increased load and as a stop gap we want to shift all the static content on the site to a cookieless domains, e.g. http://static.thedomain.com. The application is not well understood. So to give the developers time to amend the code to point their links to the static content server (http://static.thedomain.com) I thought about proxying the site through nginx and rewriting the outgoing responses such that links to /images/... are rewritten as http://static.thedomain.com/images/.... So for example, in the response from Apache to nginx there is a blob of Headers + HTML. In the HTML returned from Apache we have <img> tags that look like: <img src="/images/someimage.png" /> I want to transform this to: <img src="http://static.thedomain.com/images/someimage.png" /> So that the browser upon receiving the HTML page then requests the images directly from the static content server. Is this possible with nginx (or HAProxy)? I have had a cursory glance through the docs but nothing jumped out at me except rewriting inbound urls.

These objects end up being rendered as views (say forms) in a rich client app. I started to annotate the fields in the model objects (Java annotations) with things that let me render them as forms on the fly (e.g displayname, group, page, validvalues).   • Why do R objects not print in a function or a "for" loop?

    I have an R matrix named ddd. When I enter this, everything works fine: i <- 1 shapiro.test(ddd[,y]) ad.test(ddd[,y]) stem(ddd[,y]) print(y) The calls to Shapiro Wilk, Anderson Darling, and stem all work, and extract the same column. If I put this code in a "for" loop, the calls to Shapiro Wilk, and Anderson Darling stop working, while the the stem & leaf call and the print call continue to work. for (y in 7:10) { shapiro.test(ddd[,y]) ad.test(ddd[,y]) stem(ddd[,y]) print(y) } The decimal point is 1 digit(s) to the right of the | 0 | 0 0 | 899999 1 | 0 [1] 7 The same thing happens if I try and write a function. SW & AD do not work. The ascx view already inherits data from another Project. I cannot set my List object in the ascx page. Can this be done?     I have two NHibernate-managed entities that have a bi-directional one-to-many relationship: public class Storage { public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual IList<Box> Boxes { get; set; } } public class Box { public virtual string Box { get; set; } [DoNotSerialize] public virtual Storage ParentStorage { get; set; } } A Storage can contain many Boxes, and a Box always belongs in a Storage. I want to edit a Box's name, so I send it to the client using JSON. Note that I don't serialize ParentStorage because I'm not changing which storage it's in. The client edits the name and sends the Box back as JSON. The server deserializes it back into a Box entity. Problem is, the ParentStorage property is null. When I try to save the Box to the database, it updates the name, but also removes the relationship to the Storage. How do I properly serialize and deserialize an entity like a Box, while keeping the JSON data size to a minimum?

  • How to force my method to accept objects from external software?

    I have a method which needs to take a callback object as an argument and then (at the moment when it's needed) my method will call a specific method of the callback object. I wrote a class called Manager which has a method called addListener. As the argument for this method I need to use a callback object which is defined by the external software. So, I define the addListener in the following way: public void addListener(Listener listener). Of course Eclipse complains because it does not know what Listener is (because the Listener is defined by the external software). The only think that I know (should know) about the Listener is that it has a method called doSomething. So, to pleasure Eclipse I add an interface before my Manager class: interface Listener { void doSomething(); } public class CTManager { ... The problem seems to be solved but then I try to test my software. So, I create a class called test. In this class I create an instance of the Manager class and try to use addListener method of this instance. I also create a class Listener, instantiate it and give the instance to the addListener. And it's the place where the problem appears. Eclipse writes that addListener is not applicable to the given argument. I think it's because it expect something from my Listenr interface but gets something from the Listener class. How can I solve this problem?

  • Is it ok to store large objects (java component for example) in an Application variable?

    I am developing an app right now which creates and stores a connection to a local XMPP server in the Application scope. The connection methods are stored in a cfc that makes sure the Application.XMPPConnection is connected and authorized each time it is used, and makes use of the connection to send live events to users. As far as I can tell, this is working fine. BUT it hasn't been tested under any kind of stress. My question is: Will this set up cause problems later on? I only ask because I can't find evidence of other people using Application variables in this way. If I weren't using railo I would be using CF's event gateway instead to accomplish the same task.

  • Is there a JS/JQuery way to find out if embedded objects are loaded?

    I've got a web page that I'm embedding a pdf into. Conceptually very simple: <html> <body> blah1 <object type="application/pdf" data="a.pdf" width="500" height="650" ></object> blah2 </body> </html> What I would like to do is fire a JavaScript event when the pdf finishes loading. Is there a way to make this happen? I know only a little about JQuery, but it looks like .ready() won't fit my needs, since it is designed to fire when the html document is ready, not when all of its components are fully loaded. Thoughts?

    Hi, I have a question about drag and drop and hoping one of you already solved it. I have an online web app where I can drag and drop annotations (arrows, stars) on top of an image that sits on a DIV. Here's some things to know. 1) The image can be any size (sometimes big sometimes small) 2) The DIV of wrapper can be left aligned or centered 3) The DIV of wrapper can be fixed or auto So is there any possible solution to make it so positions of annotations are always relative to the top left corner of the image? So I am using jQuery. How would I get an annotation's position always relative to the top left corner of an image once I drop object? Thanks!

    Hi, I have a user model, a movie model and this association in user.rb (I use has_many :through because there are other associations between these two models): has_many :has_seens has_many :movies_seen, :through = :has_seens, :source = :movie I'm trying to get an array of the ten most recent has_seens associations created. For now, the only solution I found is to crawl through all the users, creating an array with every user.has_seens found, then sort the array by has_seen.created_at and only keep the last 10 items… Seems like a heavy operation. Is there a better way? Kevin

  • How can I get Text property to initialize to the objects name at design time?

    When you add a label to the form from the toolbox, its text defaults to the item's name (label1, label2, etc). How can I make this happen with a custom control? So far, I have the following, which allows me to change the text through the property window: private string _text; [BrowsableAttribute(true)] public override string Text { get { return _text; } set { _text = value; lblID.Text = _text; } } Apparently the above code works as is, but I'm not sure why. Does Text default to the object's name automatically? The question still stands for other properties which don't override Text.
