  • Android files manipulation

    Hi, Through the housekeeping stuff my android application has to do is to read and write some files and sometimes to delete others and create new ones. The files in cause have all "sdcard/" as root. Is it safe if I perform all this task using Java style functions ? To me it is very handy to do it this way but I've read that not always the java functions can be applied when it comes to files in Android.

    I need to tunnel the connections (mostly TCP) made by an application through Socks5, SSH or HTTPS. So far, I've found 3 ways to do this: api hooks, winsock lsp and a driver. I'm looking for advice on the best way to handle this, and any recommendations on SDK's that could abstract this task for me (free/open-source preferred, but commercial ones are welcome as long as the price is not high for a one-man-starting-company to afford). ps.   • Java app makes screen display unresponsive after 10 minutes of user idle time

    I've written a Java app that allows users to script mouse/keyboard input (JMacro, link not important, only for the curious). I personally use the application to automate character actions in an online game overnight while I sleep. Unfortunately, I keep coming back to the computer in the morning to find it unresponsive. Upon further testing, I'm finding that my application causes the computer to become unresponsive after about 10 minutes of user idle time (even if the application itself it simulating user activity). I can't seem to pin-point the issue, so I'm hoping somebody else might have a suggestion of where to look or what might be causing the issue. The relevant symptoms and characteristics: Unresponsiveness occurs after user is idle for 10 minutes User can still move the mouse pointer around the screen Everything but the mouse appears frozen... mouse clicks have no effect and no applications update their displays, including the Windows 7 desktop I left the task manager up along the with the app overnight so I could see the last task manager image before the screen freezes... the Java app is at normal CPU/Memory usage and total CPU usage is only ~1% After moving the mouse (in other words, the user comes back from being idle), the screen image starts updating again within 30 minutes (this is very hit and miss... sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes no results after two hours) User can CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to Windows 7's CTRL-ALT-DEL screen (after a 30 second pause). User is still able to move mouse pointer, but clicking any of the button options causes the screen to appear to freeze again On some very rare occasions, the system never freezes, and I come back to it in the morning with full responsiveness The Java app automatically stops input scripting in the middle of the night, so Windows 7 detects "real" idleness and turns the monitors into Standby mode... which they successfully come out of upon manually moving the mouse in the morning when I wake up, even though the desktop display still appears frozen Given the symptoms and characteristics of the issue, it's as if the Java app is causing the desktop display of the logged in user to stop updating, including any running applications. Programming concepts and Java packages used: Multi-threading Standard out and err are rerouted to a javax.swing.JTextArea The application uses a Swing GUI awt.Robot (very heavily used) awt.PointerInfo awt.MouseInfo System Specs: Windows 7 Professional Java 1.6.0 u17 In conclusion, I should stress that I'm not looking for any specific solutions, as I'm not asking a very specific question. I'm just wondering if anybody has run into a similar problem when using the Java libraries that I'm using. I would also gladly appreciate any suggestions for things to try to attempt to further pinpoint what is causing my problem. Thanks!     Hi folks, I have a list of usernames on Twitter whose profiles are public. I wish to get "all the tweets" they have posted from the day they formed their profile. I checked Twitter4J examples http://github.com/yusuke/twitter4j/blob/master/twitter4j-examples/src/main/java/twitter4j/examples/GetTimelines.java . According to the Twitter API documentation, only the 20 most recent tweets are returned. Is there anyway I could perform my task?

  • Displaying success/failure messages from hidden iframe submit

    I'm using the hidden iframe method to submit a form with a file upload field. I want to display a message back on the page using javascript and I'm not sure how to do this. If this was just a form with text fields I'd do an AJAX post and respond with a message I'd display in my callback function. I'm just not sure how to accomplish this same task with the hidden iframe method since it is a standard form post.

I want to be able to capture a page event, then create a SharePoint task to instruct a user to translate that page to another language (note that MOSS and variations is not an option because the client wants to use the free version of SharePoint). So the customer wants essentially the same WSS site in multiple languages.

    Similar to this question. I have been tasked to develop an application using Java to send message strings from my WinXP PC to a nearby mobile phone, using only Bluetooth. I have found a free Java Bluetooth library (Bluecove) to work with, but it seems that it might not support OBEX under Windows, which as I read is necessary to perform this task. Has anyone proven this using Java? What stack and Bluetooth library did you use? Thanks. :)

    Hi, I am trying to read the boost headers to figure out how they managed to implement the or_<...> and and_<...> metafunctions so that: 1) They can have an arbitrary number of arguments (ok, say up to 5 arguments) 2) They have short circuit behavior, for example: or_<false_,true_,...> does not instantiate whatever is after true_ (so it can also be declared but not defined) Unfortunately the pre-processor metaprogramming is making my task impossible for me :P Thank you in advance for any help/suggestion.

  • How do you make life easier for yourself when developing a really large database

    I am busy developing 2 web based systems with MySql databases and the amount of tables/views/stored routines is really becoming a lot and it is more and more challenging to handle the complexity. Now in programming languages we have namespacing e.g. Java packages, C++ namespaces to partition the software, grouping it together to make things more understandable. Databases on the other hand have more of a flat structure (MySql at least) e.g. tables and stored procedures are on the same level. So one have to be more creative, creating naming conventions, perhaps use more than one database or using tools to visualize things. What methods do you use to ease the pain? To be effective while developing your databases? To not get lost in a sea of tables and fields and stored procs? Feel free to mention tools you use also, but try to restrict it to open source and preferably Linux solutions if thats OK. b.t.w How many tables would a database have to be considered large in terms of design?

The above results is part of the live data, there is over 100,000 results rows in the table and its growing. Basically I want to measure the change over time, so want to take a SUM of the result every X records. In the real data I'll be doing it ever 100 or 1000 but for the data above perhaps every 5. If i could sort it by date I would do something like this; SELECT DATE_FORMAT(date, '%h%i') ym, COUNT(result) 'Total Games', SUM(result) as 'Score' FROM nn_log GROUP BY ym; I can't figure out a way of doing something similar with numbers. The order is sorted by the date but I hope to split the data up every x results. It's safe to assume there are no blank rows. Doing it above with the data you could do multiple selects like; SELECT SUM(result) FROM table LIMIT 0,5; SELECT SUM(result) FROM table LIMIT 5,5; SELECT SUM(result) FROM table LIMIT 10,5; Thats obviously not a very good way to scale up to a bigger problem. I could just write a loop but I'd like to reduce the number of queries.

  • cygwin: svn does not work anymore

    All of the sudden svn stopped working in cygwin installation on windows xp. when I execute svn binary, nothing happens, svn process does not even show up in the Task Manager. I've reinstalled svn but it did not help (the last resort would be to uninstall cygwin itself).     Edit: I know that method 1 is essentially invalid and will probably use method 2, but I'm looking for the best hack or a better solution to mitigate rampant, mutable namespace proliferation. I have multiple class or method definitions in one namespace that have different dependencies, and would like to use the fewest namespace blocks or explicit scopings possible but while grouping #include directives with the definitions that require them as best as possible. I'd like "Foo" or "Foo::v1_2" to show up only really once per file, as a single namespace block, if possible. Moreover, I tend to prefer to locate blocks of #include directives immediately above the first definition in the file that requires them. What's my best choice, or alternatively, what should I be doing instead of hijacking the namespaces?
