  • Virus ridden computer freezes on startup - can't access safe mode

    Someone whom I love but who cannot be trusted with a live internet connection downloaded a particularly nasty virus that in turn downloaded a variety of unknown other viruses onto my home computer. The computer now freezes completely a few seconds after reaching the desktop and is unresponsive to any keyboard or mouse command. There are videos of my little kid on this hard drive that are not backed up and that I cannot bear to lose. But if I could get in there long enough to copy them off to an external drive I would have no problem doing a clean windows install to fix the problem; everything else is backed up online but the videos were too large. Normally I would start by going into safe mode but I have a large Dell monitor that doesn't show anything until the welcome screen appears. I think that I have gotten into the setup screen once or twice by mashing keys before I can see anything, but this monitor doesn't support that so I can't see what I'm doing to get it to boot from CD or anything else. I'm at my wits end. Any advice?

  • PHP Processes reaching limit along with FastCGI timeouts

    I have a problem similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1168384/how-to-troubleshoot-php-processes, but with a twist. We have a couple of managed servers that recently migrated to FastCGI. Since then we've been having problems. We have a content management system at a central place that we manage all our sites with. All the sites run on the same managed server. So basically its one PHP script that generates pages on the same server. The catch comes in where it works perfectly on some, and gives FCGI timeout errors on others. At the same time our support is saying that the PHP processes heap up to their limit and then causes Apache to stop working. I'm convinced this is a fault on their side, but would like to get my side clean too. Anyway have any suggestions where I can start looking for what's going wrong? I know it's a really broad question, but any help or pointers would be great.   • How to use C# with AIR?

Anyway, I was wondering if it is at least possible to use C# alongside Actionscript/AIR? I can't find any example of this. Also, can I use custom Flash components in a Flex app?   • Iframe pages on Facebook does not show in Internet Explorer 9 - Windows 7 64-bit

    Have this very irritating problem with Internet Explorer 9 and Facebook. If I go to Facebook and watch a page with iframes (like IFBML pages) it will not show up in Internet Explorer 9. It shows up in Firefox 4 and Chrome 10, but not in Internet Explorer 9. I run Windows 7 64-bit SP1 (danish). The strange thing is that I own three different PC´s and they all run Windows 64-bit SP1 and all of them has this issue. Can´t figure out what causes this issue. I have tried the following: Uninstalled AVG antivirus and installed Microsoft Antivirus - no change Updated Windows with SP1 - no change Updated from Internet Explorer 9 beta to Internet Explorer 9 final Ed. - no change Emptied cache and temp files in Internet Explorer 9 - no change Made www.facebook.com a trusted site in Internet Explorer 9 - no change And a lot of other things I can not remember I guess....but nothing seems to work. As I´m using quite a lot of my working time developing Facebook Fanpages it is frustrating not to be able to test them in Internet Explorer 9. BTW - it is Internet Explorer 9 32-bit - not 64-bit. Any clues?

    So far all my sites use mostly $_GET's to get the data for a page. Ex: editad.php?posting_id=131 editaccount.php?user_id=2 --is there a way to hide or be more secured about what the user can see? I don't want them to be just able to say type "editad.php?posting_id=40" in the URL. I know I can use POSTS, but is there a way for GETs or not? --How can I be more more secured?

  • 4 Minute Delay Between New User Registration and Receipt of Activation Email

    Hello, I am using a PHP/MySQL login script that sends a new user an activation email. When a new user registers, the info is put into MySQL pretty much instantly, but then it takes about 4 minutes for the activation email to arrive in the new user's inbox. It seems like sites like Facebook and Twitter can get out an activation email instantly when a new user registers. Is there anything that I could do to make the activation email that I'm using arrive instantly or really fast? Thanks in advance, John

    I've read various sites and tutorials online but I am still confused. If the message is bigger than IP MTU, then send() returns the byte sent. What happens to the rest of the message? Am I to call send() again and attempt to send rest of the message? Or is that something IP layer should take care of automatically?
