• Good programming website like Stack Overflow?

  What other good collaborative programming/software development/engineering websites do you know of? I'm not looking for language or platform specific websites. Nor am I looking for something similar to the format of Stack Overflow. My main criteria is that the community is knowledgeable, helpful active friendly I know the question is open ended/subjective but I'd like to know as many places where I can get the help of my peers. • Windows API Programming

  I found this site, http://www.apitalk.com/document.php?id=1184207999_1 and I'm not sure if this site is using ATL, STL, MFC, or just calling API functions directly. I have done console programming with C++ and graphics programmign with C++ in Borland, but I've have never done Win32 C++ programming and I'm curious if anyone knows of a good site to start with? Does anyone know of any good sites to recommend about getting up and going fast with Win32 API C++?

  I'm looking for resources, screencasts, books, courses, sites and the like to assist with learning Objective-C with the intention of developing applications for Apple's iOS 4. My development team has access to Apple's development program, and is largely coming from a similar background: they're Comp Sci graduates that have experience with Ruby and web languages, but haven't written any C since university. Considering Apple's announcement regarding limited programming language support for developers, what's the current best avenue for learning Objective-C with the desire for developing iPad and iPhone applications?

• RDFa / Microformat - Recipe markup standards

  I wonder if anyone can help? After Google announced that it will take note of RDFa / Microformats for online recipes, I've been looking into this for a couple of recipe based sites I run. However we simply don't have all the required data to fulfill any of the standards. Does this matter? Will search engine crawlers still make the most of what they do find, or by missing a few elements (like a review or recipe rating) will I be wasting my time implementing this? Cheers, H

• Setting up self signed cert and CA [plesk / linux]

  I'm about ready to give up and do a clean wipe of this machine and start over with ISPConfig or some other variant. I installed Plesk on this machine to help with some of the handiwork. It is the free version (single domain); I don't need it for much. It's nice, though, to use to set up db's email, etc. Anyway, I would like to set it up as a CA (which I can add to users' trusted root servers to alleviate those warnings). It seems like Plesk does all it can to obfuscate where things are. Despite trying to find the conf files, and crt/pem/key etc. I am (5 hours later) now left with a machine that won't even get to the ssl page. The browser will sit there, until a 'connection reset' error comes up. In error_log, I get messages saying CN doesn't match server name -- which it does. ssl_error_log: [Thu May 13 16:02:14 2010] [warn] RSA server certificate is a CA certificate (BasicConstraints: CA == TRUE !?) [Thu May 13 16:12:19 2010] [warn] RSA server certificate is a CA certificate (BasicConstraints: CA == TRUE !?) not very helpful. If anyone has any experience, and/or recommendations (including other software), I'd be much obliged. NB RHEL5; 1 domain, 3 subdomains; everything local only. Thanks.

• Jquery: highlight element on mouseover without hanging or lagging.

  When I had elements highlighted upon mouseover, it would work fine with sites with minimal number of elements. But when the number of elements on a page was very big, the effect would "lag" so to speak. It would take a while for each elements to highlight upon mouseover event. Has someone solved this problem successfully ? I've seen a prototype.js example that does not lag.

  Now that ICann is allowing non-latin-character domain names, should I be concerned about e-mail validation? Currently, my sites are using php functions to ensure some alpha-numeric character set in each segment of an email address. Will these other character sets, such as Cyrillic, Arabic, and Chinese, pass validation? Are there recommended php functions to utilize for this?

• Window 7 Computer name changing on its own?

  Very odd problem... I have a Dell Latitude D830 with XP Pro that has been running on my local domain for many years. I recently Installed Windows 7 Enterprise on the D830 using a brand new HDD so that I could still use XP if I needed by just swapping out the HDD's. I added the W7 installed system to my domain using a completely different machine name than that used for the XP system and everything seemed to be functioning as it should. On boot up over the last 2 weeks or so I occasionally (3 times now) get to the login screen and try to login to the domain only to get an error saying that the Computer name is not a trusted machine in the domain I'm trying to log in to. Come to find out that the machine name on the W7 system has been changed somehow to that of my old XP system. If on the W7 system I then change the name back to the correct name, disjoin the domain, reboot, add the machine back into the domain … all is well for an unknown period of time until this happens again. This last time, I know for a fact that everything was fine the day before when I shut down the system. I came in today, powered up the system and the machine name had been changed to that of my old XP system again. Has anybody else seen this behavior or hav any ideas on what could be causing it? Thanks!
