  • How much languages is "recommended" for a dynamic website?

    When constructing a website, say a Q&A site or a just a forum site for a community, is just knowing HTML,CSS,PHP, MySQL, and javascript enough to make the site dynamic? I am saying this because when I talked with my teacher, he said that major sites use many languages combined. And he said that a site shouldn't be designed only in PHP. So is it possible to create a good website, not e-commerce, with only html,css, and php?

  • Where to start game programming for Android

    Hi, I'm new to game programming. But I'v got an ide for what I think would be a fun game for the Android platform. My question is, where do I start? Anyone got some good sites to recommend or perhaps a book or two. I'v got medium skills when it come to programming but i'v got a masters of science degree in computer engineering so i'm not totally unfamiliar with algorithms and stuff. Thx for any help! /Marthin

  • Cannot Connect To VMWare Guest OS Using NEither RDP Nor

    Hi, I have a PC (Windows XP SP3) with VMWare Workstation 7 installed. The VMWare hosts Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2. RealVNC (4.1.3) is installed on both OS'es. Both of them use Hamachi2. Host OS (WinXP) also runs ZoneAlarm Firewall. Hamachi network is set as trusted. My goal is to allow RDP and VNC connections to be made to the guest OS (Windows Server 2003). Both options work absolutely fine if I connect from the host OS. However I have problems when other computers from our Hamachi network try to connect the guest OS (Win2K3). 1) RDP connections. RDP window opens, shows black content and after 15-20 seconds displays following error: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_yQhsRRimgKU/TArRrtiteQI/AAAAAAAABZA/e96za-y9wzo/rdp_error.JPG 2) RealVCN connections. Users are able to connect but all they see is a black screen inside VNC window. At the same their input (keystrokes or mouse moves/clicks) are visible when looking at the console window of the Win2K3. I really appreciate any ideas on how to resolve mentioned problems.   • Can't connect to Server Manager from Windows 7

    I have a Windows 7 Pro 64bit with SP1 desktop that has RSAT tools installed. I opened Server Manager and can't connect to the server (Server 2008 R2 core). I followed the guide to enable everything on the server, added a registry key to enable read-only on the device manager as well. On the Windows 7 PC I turned on winrm, did the quick config, and added the server IP and name as trusted hosts. I still get an error when connecting. "Connecting to the remote server failed with the following error message: The WinRM client cannot process the requests. If the authentication scheme is different from Kerberos, or if the client computer is not joined to a domain, then HTTPS transport must be used or the destination machine must be added to the TrustedHosts configuration setting...." I also added the name of the server to the windows 7 /etc/hosts file. Ping the server name translates to the IP of the server. Also opened up the firewall for "Remote Volume Management" Both machines are on the same Workgroup, using the same Administrator account, with the same password. Any help appreciated.

    Slipping some (non-root) user a piece of malignant code that he or she executes might be considered as one of the highest security breaches possible. (The only higher I can see is actually accessing the root user) What can an attacker effectively do when he/she gets a standard, (let's say a normal Ubuntu user) to execute code? Where would an attacker go from there? What would that piece of code do? Let's say that the user is not stupid enough to be lured into entering the root/sudo password into a form/program she doesn't know. Only software from trusted sources is installed. The way I see it there is not really much one could do, is there? Addition: I partially ask this because I am thinking of granting some people shell (non-root) access to my server. They should be able to have normal access to programs. I want them to be able to compile programs with gcc. So there will definitely be arbitrary code run in user-space...

  • What is the recommended approach to add static subdomains to a website?

    I would like to create a few static subdomains like: mycategory.mydomain.com in a rather small website and would like it to point to the folder: mydomain.com/mycategory without showing such redirection in browser address bar. What is an easiest way to achieve it? I can do it in either IIS settings, asp.net, C# code, etc I guess there are better ways then creating a few separate Sites in IIS - one for each subdomain.

    I have come across a couple of sites in the past where a professional programmer would charge you 50 cents per minute or so to chat with them, one on one, and they would answer any questions you have about your choice of programming language. I've been studying ASP.NET 3.5 for a couple of months now and haven't been able to find a service like this for ASP.NET. Any help? A free live chat room for .NET would be of big help too.

  • Is HTTP 404 appropriate for out of range page number on paged content?

    I have a site that is mainly showing a paged list of content (articles, data element's, etc.), and I'm wondering about returning HTTP 404 when user navigates outside of the available list range. Some sites just display "No results/Page number out of range" and some return additionally return HTTP 404 status. What's your take on that, and why? UPDATE It's not and api response. This question is in regard to user viewed pages that among other things show a list/table in the main area.

  • How do I remove/delete/expire a cookie immediately?

    I want to remove a cookie I set. If I do this by giving it a expiration date sometime in the past it gets marked as "expires: at end of session". I've noticed that other sites manage to delete the cookie immediately somehow. For example when you logout here on stackoverflow the "user" cookie disappears right away. How?

  • Thinking about introducing PHP/MySQL into a .NET/SQL Server environment. Thoughts?

    I posted this over at reddit but it didn't gain any momentum. So here is what is going on: our company was recently purchased by another web shop and I was promoted to head of development here in our office. Our office is completely .NET/SQL Server and the company who purchased us is a *nix/PHP/MySQL shop. Now several of our large clients who are on the .NET platform are up for complete rewrites (the sites are from '04 and are running on the 1.x framework.) While reviewing the proposal for one client with my superior I came across a pretty extensive module which would require several hundred man hours to complete and voiced some concern about it in relation to the quote. One of the guys from the PHP group happen to hear this and told me of a module that they (PHP Group) use in Drupal that does exactly what the proposal in front of me was describing and it only took, at most, 8 hours to completely setup / configure. My superior suggested that I take a look at Drupal and the module in question over the weekend but stressed that we should only go that route if it really made sense. So this weekend I spun up a CentOS instance in VirtualBox and started playing around with Drupal. I am still fleshing it out so don't have a solid opinion on it just yet. Anyway I have some questions / fears that I was hoping progit could help me out in! Has anyone had experience doing this and, if so, how did it turn out? I am completely ignorant to what IDE's (if any) are available to for PHP. The last time I worked with PHP it was in Notepad and that was less than intuitive. So is there are more intuitive IDE out there for PHP dev? I don't want to scare my .NET guys. Since the merger all of our new business clients that have had relatively small websites have gone on Drupal with the larger sites going on .NET. My concern is that if they see a large site go onto Drupal that they might start getting anxious and start handing out their resumes. For the foreseeable future there are no plans to liquidate the .NET platform and really we can't just from a support standpoint. What would be the best way to approach this? Any other helpful info?     i am working on a small project that i need the ability to let users upload a video to my website or use a webcam to record a video and then upload it. i have seen this done on several sites (youtube,facebook etc) so i know that there is a java or flash applet that supports this. however i have not been able to find one. can anyone recommend a good flash or java based video uploader with these features?
