    Hi, I have a question regarding GridView windows forms control. As a datasource, I am using a DataTable object. When the grid view is sorted, the DataTable's row indices are not sorted. In this way, when accessing the DataTable using indices from GridView, I get the unexpected rows. How can this situation be handled?

  • Windows.Forms RichTextBox Control - Avoid inserting large data.

    I have a Windows Form with a RichTextBox on it. The content of the RichTextBox is written to a database field that ist limited to 64k data. For my purpose that is way more than enough text to store. I have set the MaxLength property to avoid insertng more data than allowed. rtcControl.MaxLength = 65536 Howevery, that only restricts the amount of characters that so is allowed to put in the text. But with the formatting overhead from the Rtf I can type more text than I should be allowed to. It even get's worse if I insert a large image, which dosn't increase the TextLength at all but the Rtf Length grows quite a lot. At the moment I check the Length of the richttextboxes' Rtf property in the FormClosing event and display a message to the user if it's to large. However that is just a workaround because I want to disallow putting more data than allowed into the control (like in a textbox if you exceed the MaxLength property nothing is inserted into the control and you hear the default beep(). Any ideas how to achive this? I already tried: using a custom control which extends the richtextbox and shadows th Rtf property to intercept the insertation. But it seems it isn't executed if I add text. Even the TextChanged Event does not fire if I type smth. in the control.

  • How To Make Moving News Bar in Windows Forms Application without Timer

    I'm making a desktop application in C# which contains a moving News Bar labels. I'm using a timer to move these labels but the problem is that when i make the interval of this timer low (1-10 for example) the application takes very high percentage of CPU Usage, And when i make it higher(200 -500 ) the movement of the labels becomes intermittent or not smooth movement even that the user may not be able to read the news in Comfortable way. ((More Information)) it is Windows form application. the way i move the labels is as follows : the news items from RSS feeds are represented in a group of linklabels. All these linklabels are added to a flowlayout container. The timer moves the whole flowlayout container. I found this way according to my knowledge the best way to making the news bar. If you have better idea or solution please help

    I have strange behaviour with my app after run it on Windows 7. It's connected with NotifyIcon while app is minimized. What should happens: 1) Click once on icon with mouse left button then Balloon with some text should appears 2) Double click on icon will show again app window On Windows 7 MouseDoubleClick is also fired but window is not showing. I don't know why.   • Strongly Typed Controls in .NET

    I am working on a Windows Forms app for quite some time now, and I really find myself doing more typecasts in the GUI code than I ever did in my underlying business code. What I mean becomes apparent if you watch the ComboBox control that accepts some vague "object" as it's item. Then you go off and may display some DisplayMember and a ValueMember and so on. If I want to retrieve that value later I need to typecast my object back to what it was. Like with strings getting the value takes string value = (string)combobox1.SelectedItem; Since there are generics in the Framework for quite some time now, I still wonder why in the Hell not one control from the standard toolbox is generic. I also find myself using the .Tag property on ListViewItems all the time to keep the displayed domain object. But everytime I need to access that object I then need another typecast. Why cant I just create a ComboBox or ListView with items of type ListViewItem Am I missing something here or is this just another example of not perfectly well thought through controls?

  • Is there a sample set of web log data available for testing analysis against?

    Sorry if this isn't strictly speaking a programming question, but I figure my best chance of success would be to ask here. I'm developing some web log file analysis algorithms, but to date I only have access to a fairly small amount of web log data to process. One algorithm I want to use makes some assumptions about 'the shape' of typical web log data, and so I'd like to test it against a larger 'exemplar' - perhaps the logs of a busy site with a good distribution of traffic from different sources etc. Is there a set of such data available somewhere?   • System.Drawing - bad text rendering using DrawString on top of transparent pixels.

    When rendering text into a bitmap, I find that text looks very bad when rendered on top of an area with non-opaque alpha. The problem is progressively worse as the underlying pixels become more transparent. If I had to guess I'd say that when underlying pixels are transparent, the text renderer draws any anti-aliased 'gray' pixels as solid black.   • Form.ShowDialog() does not show form.

    I've come across a situation where I try to run a simple line of code in a method Dim res As DialogResult = frmOptions.ShowDialog() but nothing happens. The dialog box will not appear. If I run this method from another location in the code it executes fine (i.e. displays the form in dialog mode and code executes fine thereafter). Hence, it may be the way in which I arrive at this code that is causing my problem, but I cannot see to find what is wrong. When I pause the debugger the line of code is highlighted in green but I can't see to step over it or into it. Any idea what may cause this to happen, or what I should be looking for that might be causing the problem?? Thanks for the help!

The Setup Project UserInterface templates seem inflexible and poorly documented so I am looking at opening a WinForm as a Custom Action. I know this is possible because I see reference to it in many places but this is my first Windows Installer experience and so far it is mired in googled contradictions, partial or outdated information and guesswork... erg.... Does anyone have (even a pointer to) a clear concise description of how one gets this done in a VS 2008 WinForm project... Many thanks for inputs

  • Dynamically showing fields to a Dev Express Grid view on windows form

    In one of windows application in C# , I am using Dev Express Grid view control to bind some data and display it to user. I have custom business objects with properties defined for this purpose.Then I simple set the DataSource of the grid to the list of my custom business objects. A while ago , there came a requirement which means that the columns to be displayed on to the grid will be dynamic. This means I cannot know at design time which fields I will need to display. I was thinking of abandoning setting the DataSource and populating the grid manually by code. But I think this will cause many of the grid's features not to work properly, for example , grouping the data by drag n drop of fields to the header area etc. Is there any way to tell a grid at runtime to skip certain fields from a list of BO's when databinding to the grid ?

  • Second Thread Holding Up Entire Program in C# Windows Form Application

    In my windows form application, I'm trying to test the user's ability to access a remote machine's shared folder. The way I'm doing this (and I'm sure that there are better ways...but I don't know of them) is to check for the existence of a specific directory on the remote machine (I'm doing this because of firewall/other security restrictions that I'm confronted with in my organization). If the user has rights to access the shared folder, then it returns in no time at all, but if they don't, it hangs forever. To solve this, I threw the check into another thread and wait only 1000 milliseconds before determining that the share can't be hit by the user. However, when I do this, it still hangs as if it was never run in the same thread. What is making it hang and how do I fix it? I would think that the fact that it is in a separate thread would allow me to just let the thread finish on it's own in the background.   • How to check whether the form has any ShowDialog() forms open?

    I have a form MainForm with several properties/methods that are accessed from another thread. At some point I might open a form AuxForm with ShowDialog() and then while that modal form is open, the other thread still modifies the MainForm's properties. This is all desired. In one of the methods accessed from another thread I need to execute some code, but only if the modal AuxForm is not open. Is there any way to check this (by using .NET WF Form properties) or I need to use a flag variable? NOTE: None of these properties/methods modify the controls (so no Invoke is required).
