• Remote RAID Control in ESXi on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 Using OpenManage

  I was wondering how one can add a drive into an existing RAID array while ESXi is still running. I have read that you are able to use Dell OpenManage to do this. I have installed OMSA 7.0 on the VMWare ESXi host (5.0 and fully updated) and I've installed OpenManage Essentials on a Windows Server 2008 R2 guest. The issue that I'm having is that OpenManage is unable to see my RAID controller. I have seen videos and photos as parts of guides on how to do this online, so I would assume that the functionality exists and I just have it set up wrong.

• Hosting a web site at home: ISP Blocking port 80?

  Hello, I presume this is a better place to put this rather than server fault. I'm interested in setting up a small site to host at home as a "proof of concept" exercise, i.e. to prrove that I know how to do it. I've got a (virtual) server 2003 machine with a site on it, all configured with port forwarding through to 80 on my server. I have a Belkin F5D7634 which I have put my DYNDNS details in but when I try to go to my DYNDNS address it comes up with the page cannot be displayed. My ISP is Carphone Warehouse/AOL and I've been unable to find any information if they block port 80. If they do, can anybody reccomend a home provider that does not block port 80? Regards, Tom.

• iTunes home sharing problem

  I have two iMacs running Snow Leopard. I have iTunes home sharing setup on the two of them using the same iTunes account credentials. Up until last night all worked fine... I could download an app on one iMac, then go to the other iMac and drag that app from the home sharing into that iMac's applications. Then all of a sudden it stopped working. I can see and browse the home sharing, however, when I go to drag an app or song from the share to the local library it gives me an error stating that I am unable to do so... when I click OK to this message I lose visibility to the home share. I have checked and this iMac is authorized with my iTunes account and I have even deauthorized and reauthorized but still the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• Kernel appears to have no modules

  Useful info: OS: CentOS 5.8 final Kernel: 2.6.32-042stab056.8 My kernel came prebuilt with the server, I don't know anything about kernels and not a lot about linux however as far as I do know I should have some modules loaded by the kernel. I came across this problem because I am unable to run iscsi as it is expecting certain modules to be loaded. lsmod returns nothing. depmod -a returns: WARNING: Couldn't open directory /lib/modules/2.6.32-042stab056.8: No such file or directory FATAL: Could not open /lib/modules/2.6.32-042stab056.8/modules.dep.temp for writing: No such file or directory I have rebooted and nothing has changed. Does anyone know why this is happening?

  I am on Windows 7 and using Firefox browser. I am using WiFi, but since the morning I cannot access the Internet via the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, or IE). The laptop shows there is Internet connection, Skype is online, but I can't reach the Internet. Then I launched Tor application which creates secure channel and provides its Firefox browser. Well, I can now access the Internet over that browser. So, what might be the problem causing this malfunction? • How to forward blocked ports by ISP

  So I've been trying to setup a TeamSpeak 3 server on my pc but ports (9987,10011,30033) are blocked by my ISP, I've contacted them to unblock them but they didn't accept, and it's the fastest ISP in my city (as living in a 3rd world country) so it's not a good idea to connect to another ISP. The thing is, I've tried Your-Freedom to connect to tunnel my connection & SocksCap. The problem is, when TS works with SocksCap it doesn't show a WAN-IP that friends will use to connect to my server It says "Needs to be Requested" and when I press the Request button, I get nothing. So, any idea what's wrong if someone has done this before? or if you have any other suggestion to run a TS server, would be very glad to hear it and really appreciate that. P.S. as I've mentioned before, living in a 3rd world country, makes me unable to buy a VPS even the cheapest one cause there's no Visa, Credit, or paypal. so that won't work. Thanks in advance.

• CentOS 6: Can not start NFS

  I am unable to start the NFS service. When starting there is no error. But the services are stopt after it. No messages at all in /var/log/messages. Same happens to rpcbind serivce. Any idea what this could be? I also tried to disable iptables. • Is Sony Vegas Pro 8 uable to import AC3? How to enable?!

  I am using Sony Vegas Pro 8.0b. I want to import an AVI (DivX), where the audio codec used is "0x2000 (Dolby AC3) AC3 ", according to GSpot. I later want to render this video again in another codec etc. I have done videoconversion with Vegas 8 many times and ususally do not run into any problems. However with this particular video, the audio stream simply does not show up in the track list or anywhere! There is simply no audio (the video is fine). Questions: is Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 unable to import AC3? If yes, can I make it so that it becomes able to do so and how?

• Why does my computer show a black screen when booting into Windows Vista?

  Today, I removed some old software from dad's vista, and installed SP1. After which the computer restarted and it went into a "black" screen. I left it running for a few hours, and the laptop was really hot. I tried to get into safemode, start from last known good start up, but nothing seemed to work. i know it stops after loading \windows\system32\drivers\cplir.sys what's going on and how can I fix his computer? Update I'm still unable to fix my install. Repair and restoring the OS fail. The laptop has the vista partition built into it. I can't boot through a USB, and my other computer doesn't have a cd/dvd writer Update 2 I tried chkdisk /f and although it fixed some errors, I still get the black screen of death.

• Configure sendmail to accept connection from one other IP address

  I have a RubyOnRails application running on the same server that runs sendmail. The application sends out (no need to receive) emails via the local sendmail. Now I intend to move sendmail to a dedicated server. How do I make sendmail on that server accept connections from my application on the other server? I modified sendmail.mc from DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet, Name=MTA-v4, Port=smtp, Addr=127.0.0.1')dnl to DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet, Name=MTA-v4, Port=smtp')dnl I have also added to /etc/mail/access: Connect:198.211.117.41 RELAY then ran m4 sendmail.mc > sendmail.cf and restarted sendmail. Trying to connect from my app server with telnet on port 25 to the mail server gives me: telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused Am I missing something?

  I am new to EC2 (and Tomcat, for that matter), and I am trying to deploy a vanilla Tomcat 7 server to an Ubuntu 12.04.1 EC2 instance and access the default test site over HTTP. My EC2 instance is running, and the Security Group includes port 80: My /etc/tomcat7/server.xml config has been edited to listen for HTTP requests on port 80: 0 I have restarted my Tomcat 7 server via sudo service tomcat7 restart. However, according to sudo netstat -lnp, Tomcat is not listed as listening over port 80: I am unable to get any response from going to the ...amazonaws.com public DNS in a web browser. What am I missing?

• PHP + IIS Application Pool Identity Windows\Temp permissions

  I am currently running PHP (5.3) on IIS 7.5 on a Win2k8 R2 Web Edition Server and would like to know what, if any, problems or security vulnerabilities I may introduct into a system by assigning Read, Write, Modify & Execute permissions to either IUSR account or the IIS_USERS group for %SystemRoot%\Temp? Should I be altering permissions to that folder at all (as Windows reminds me I probably shouldn't when i attempt to change them)? Should I create a temp folder somewhere else and set permissions accordingly? The problem is when i set Anonymous Authentication (I'm guessing is a more secure option???) to use the App Pool identity, when starting sessions PHP gets stuck in a loop because it's unable to create session files in the %SystemRoot%\Temp folder due to lack of permission on the application pool user or IIS_USERS group. Another problem being ImageMagick (PHP Extension) is being denied access to %SystemRoot%\Temp to write temporary files so is throwing exceptions. I have tried searching Google however have not found anything that touches upon this subject specifically. Any help greatly appreciated.

  I have downloaded databasename.bak file from my hosting company, when i tried to restore that DB file in SQL server 2008 it is keep on giving me following error. The media family on device 'C:\go4sharepoint_1384_8481.bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. What I need to do is disable remote printing, file transfer and clipboard via active directory for the workstations that will be accessed.   I am trying to configure sendmail and ufw on an ubuntu server (ServerA) so that another server (ServerB) can send mail through it. In my /etc/mail/access file I have the following line (a.b.c.d is the IP of ServerB): Connect:a.b.c.d RELAY My ufw status shows the following rule I added: 25/tcp ALLOW a.b.c.d When I telnet from ServerA I get through: telnet localhost 25 When I telnet from ServerB I don't (w.x.y.z is the IP of ServerA): telnet w.x.y.z 25 telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused I did restart the sendmail daemon after editing the access file. I am conform I have two volume where attachment information is i-7e4fb41c:/dev/sda1 (attached) and i-7e4fb41c:/dev/sdf (attached) where only sda1 is using. • OS2/Warp - Remotely Stop and Restart a Program

  Our current phone system runs off of a legacy OS2/Warp box. Periodically we have to log into the machine and restart OS2RSD.exe and then start it again and the phone system starts working again. The problem is we have to physically get in front of the box and use the GUI to stop and restart the process. Is it possibly to remotely run a script to kill OS2RSD.exe if its running and then start it again? I have been unable to figure this out on my own. The OS is OS2/Warp Version 3 if that helps.

• Recommend a good DVD or BD replacement drive that can read older CD-R/DVD+R media?

  So I have a bunch of older CD-R (and a few DVD+R) discs that are either suffering from "bit rot", or a case of crappy no-name Chinese DVD drives being unable to read some or all of anymore. I just threw my last no-name DVD drive in the trash after it ejected a disk still spinning causing it to scratch to the point of being useless, so I'm looking for a replacement drive this time around with an eye for quality over a dirt cheap price. I'd prefer a BD drive, but I'll take any suggestions for good, reliable DVD or BD drives that people have reported having good success with for reading older burned media. Any takers?

• How do large companies handle software updates for users without administrative rights?

  I just started working for a small-medium size company doing IT support. Maybe 150 or less users. Right now every user has administrative rights to their own machine. This allows them to install updates or whatever else they would like to. I'm tired of getting on user's machines that are bloated with crap they put on themselves. So my first thought would be to take away administrative rights to their computer. This would also have other advantages such as preventing a lot of drive-by malware on the web etc. The problem arises that users are unable to install updates. (Even though I find most ignore these anyway) How do large companies handle software updates on all client machines? EDIT: Windows environment. Most servers are Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. Clients are all Windows. Win XP, Vista, and 7.

  It seems that all the wireless laptops in the office have disconnected and are unable to reconnect to the wifi after a terrible storm caused some power interruptions.   Exchange 2010 sp2 Outlook 2007/2010 Server 2008 I have managed to set up several room mailboxes in exchange, people are able to book the rooms and they get a response from the exchange server. this is brilliant. however users are unable to view the calendar of the room mailbox to see what times are available, in a ideal world I would like users to only see if the room is free or not.
