  • Monitor memory usage of child process

    - by Omry
I have a Linux daemon that forks a few children and monitors them for crashes (restarting as needed). It will be great if the parent could monitor the memory usage of child processes - to detect memory leaks and restart child processes when the go beyond a certain size. How can I do this?

  • curb not working with rails

    - by Mike
I have a simple class that is using curb to retrieve data. Everything works just find from the command line, but when I load it into my rails application WebBrick crashes on the "require 'curb'" statement. I'm extremely new to ruby so I'm not sure how exactly to debug the error from webbrick to determine what is wrong. If someone knows how to solve this issue that would be great, if someone could also point me into the right direction to start troubleshooting the issue myself that would also help.

  • If I register a domain name using a service like A Small Orange, how can I know they are registering

    - by Sergio Tapia
I have a great name for a website and it's available, but I don't really know how to register a domain name using a barebones website; that's why I want to use A Small Orange-like service. My question is, is it standard procedure to register the name on YOUR(the costumers) behalf, or do companies set it up on their name so they can profit from hits if in the future you stop paying for the hosting?

  • Triple Boot with Windows 7, Windows 7 and Ubuntu [closed]

    - by BillJeansk
Hello, currently I have dual boot with 2 windows 7. (dont ask why, long story, I need them for each with different settings involving Audio Recording) I am very keen to install the new Ubuntu and get into a new OS, out of interest but I don't want to mess with my current 2 windows installations? If I install Ubuntu, will this simply add to my list of OS boot options when you set it, like I did when I install my 2nd Windows 7 Any comments or help would be great? Thanks Bill

  • Scala on the CLR

    - by Michal Bendowski
The Scala homepage says that Scala 1.4 was runnable on the .NET framework - what is the status of Scala on the CLR now? Is anyone working on it? I think it would make a great GUI tool combined with GTK# and Mono...

  • Wallet Underflow? [closed]

    - by David T. McKee
I am a software engineer who would love to "disconnect" from the "company store" so-to-speak. This concept of Stack-Overflow is great...so, because I know that software engineers need coffee and food, how do you monetize this? Just wondering.

  • How can I pin a div in my sidebar column to the bottom?

    - by vg1890
I have a simple two column layout with a footer at the bottom. When the content in the sidebar is taller than the content in the main column, everything looks great. But when the height of the main column is greater than the sidebar, I need the sidebar to grow to the same height as the main column and for the last <div> in the sidebar to be pinned to the very bottom. Here's my sample code: http://jsfiddle.net/mqnML/1/

  • Can somebody link me to some code where there is a fantastic or a nice use of Inheritance

    - by Soham
I strongly believe that, reading code and reading good code is key to great programming. If not one of the many. I had been facing some problems in visualizing and having a "feel" of using inheritance to better my code architecture. Can somebody give me some link to good code to emulate, where folks have used inheritance in an absolute "kung-fooey ruthless" manner [in a good way]

  • Facebook Connect for iPhone persistant login

    - by Sam
Hi, I have implemented Facebook Connect in my iPhone project and it is working great. The only problem I have is that every time the user closes the app, the next time they load it they have to re-enter their username and password to login even if the 'keep me logged in' box is checked. My question is is there a way to save the user's session so next time the app is launched they are automatically logged into Facebook Connect without any prompts? Thanks!

  • Implementing Communication Protocols on CC2420 motes powered by TinyOS

    - by stanigator
I would like to load TinyOS on CC2420 radio motes to operate on certain communication protocols (e.g. epidemic routing, probabilistic routing, etc.). However, I have no prior experience in programming motes to perform the protocols I want. I'm just wondering about the most applicable resources for reference and how difficult (if not impossible) was implementing such mentioned protocols. It would be great to hear from you. Thanks in advance!

  • Performing non-blocking requests? - Django

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I have been playing with other frameworks, such as NodeJS, lately. I love the possibility to return a response, and still being able to do further operations. e.g. def view(request): do_something() return HttpResponse() do_more_stuff() #not possible!!! Maybe Django already offers a way to perform operations after returning a request, if that is the case that would be great. Help would be very much appreciated! =D

  • Is there a repo where you can download android virtual devices?

    - by thepearson
Does anyone know, if vendors provide or if there is a site where one could download AVD profiles for existing android devices on the market so you can run your apps in the emulator and basically see how they will run on said devices? I know it's pretty easy to create a new device but it'd be great if one could just download the config file for each device and run it.

  • python script to download xml files on my server

    - by Blankman
I need a python script that will do the following: connect to a URL, and that URL will return a number like 1200. Use the number, to download xml files named: 1 to x where x is the number from #1. store the files in a particular directory. Sorry I've never written a python script, so if you could guide me along that would be great (maybe with a some comments). I will be running this as a cron job if that matters.

  • What's wrong with C#?

    - by Steve M
Asking the same of Java yielded some very interesting responses, so I thought it would be only fair to ask the same thing of C#, probably Java's closest rival. I actually like this sort of question because it's a lot less subjective than "why should I choose this language" or "why is this language so great." So.. what's wrong with C#?
