  • How can I gain root access on a Mac OS X system without wiping the OS?

I'd love to put it to use in my own life, but I don't want to wipe its brains out just so I can reconfigure it to use in my network, etc. His old files are historically important to me—I trust you can understand my desire to keep them.   • How to get httrack to work with SSL on mac os x? (libssl.so not found)

    I'm trying to use httrack website copier but the program is running and reporting "no-ssl" (ie: it does not have the capability to copy secure sites). From looking over this thread, it seems that the problem is either when I make & configure the program, or when I run the program, it is not finding the lib-ssl / open-ssl that I have installed. I think it is looking for /var/root/lib/libssl.so.1.0 The user on that forum states that he created a symlink which allowed httrack to find the ssl library in the non-default location. Perhaps that's what I need to do - but where do I create the link from and to? I'm not seeing that I have any libssl.so files installed on my system. Do I need the development package? If so, how do I install that? I used macports to install the current version of openssl that I have. I'm running OS X 10.6.   • Duplicate GET request from multiple IPs - can anyone explain this?

    We've seen a pattern in our webserver access logs which we're having problem explaining. A GET request appears in the access log which is a legitimate, but private, url as part of normal e-commerce website use (by private, we mean there is a unique key in a url form variable generated specifically for that customer session). Then a few seconds later we get hit with an identical request maybe 10-15 times within the space of a second. The duplicate requests are all from different IP addresses. The UserAgent for the duplicates are all the same (but different from the original request). The reverse DNS lookup on the IPs for all the duplicates requests resolve to the same large hosting company. Can anyone think of a scenario what would explain this?   • Use synergy with Physical KVM

    I am using synergy on a Linux Mint computer as the server with a Mac as the client. I also have a physical KVM switch. The problem I have is that when ever I switch the physical KVM to my Mac, synergy stops working as in the keyboard and mouse don't work with the Mac. Thanks in advance!     How can I find out where an alias is defined on my system? I am referring to the kind of alias that is used within a Terminal session launched from Mac OS X (10.6.3). For example, if I enter the alias command with no parameters at a Terminal command prompt, I get a list of aliases that I have set, for example, this is one of them alias mysql='/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql' However, I have searched all over my system using Spotlight and mdfind in various startup files and so far can not find where this alias has been defined ( I did it a long time ago and didn't write down where I assigned the alias).

I can have a basic non-Ruby directory on my boot volume (Mac OS 10.6.3 Server) and can serve up video files just fine to iPad. However, when I drag the same video file into the 'public' area of the app running on -p 3000 it will not play on iPad, but will in Safari 4.0.5 desktop version. Images work fine so I know it's not a permissions issue. I'm getting the crossed-out play icon on iPad so it is not an issue of waiting on a large file to download before playing. I suspect it is a Mongrel/Snow Leopard issue but why would Safari on desktop work fine and not Safari iPad?   • How do I fix JavaHL (JNI) Not available after I have changed the logon password on my Mac?

    I have installed Eclipse 3.5.2 and the plugin Subversion JavaHL Native Library Adapter 1.6.9.2 and this worked without any problems. However, this morning I was forced to change the password to logon to my Mac and since then I get the message that "Subversion native library not available" when I try to save any changes. Can anyone help? I have tried to add this line (-Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni) to the eclipse.ini file but this didn´t seem to make any difference. Can anyone help?

  • Why is Standard Input is not displayed as I type in Mac OS X Terminal application?

    I'm confused by some behavior of my Mac OS X Terminal and my Django manage.py shell and pdb. When I start a new terminal, the Standard Input is displayed as I type. However, if there is an error, suddenly Standard Input does not appear on the screen. This error continues until I shut down that terminal window. The Input is still being captured as I can see the Standard Output. E.g. in pdb.set_trace() I can 'l' to display where I'm at in the code. However, the 'l' will not be displayed, just an empty prompt. This makes it hard to debug because I can't determine what I'm typing in. What could be going wrong and what can I do to fix it?

  • I'm trying to install Spree on my Mac with Rails 1.9.2 - I'm getting an error message.

    I'm doing a local install on Mac OSX of Spree (a Ruby-based ecommerce package) following the tutorial on this page. I'm using RVM to run Ruby 1.9.2 and rails 3.0.3. I run "gem install spree" successfully to load spree version 0.40. But when I run "Gem Install Spree" I get the following message. Can anyone help? /Library/Ruby/Site/1.8/rubygems.rb:335:in `bin_path': can't find executable spree for spree-0.40.0 (Gem::Exception) from /usr/bin/spree:19 Also, when I run "Gem list spree" I get an empty list.

  • Skype Mac API - Use AppleScript or 5 year old API?

    I have a x86_64 app that I would like to have optionally read Skype status messages. However, the 5 year old skype mac framework is 32-bit, and if there is a way to have that compile within a 64-bit app, I haven't found it. My question is, basically, how should I go about doing this? I really only need to get and set the USERSTATUS AWAY/ONLINE string. Using AppleScript, a "Should Skype allow this" dialog pops up... every time. This is highly inefficient and downright irritating. Advice? I'm considering writing a 32-bit CLI wrapper, but that seems like overkill.

  • Help with replacing Mac factory install of apache with MAMP PRO so FileMaker will work with my other

    I am running Mac 10.4 and have been using MAMP PRO to host several websites I manage. Now that I have installed FileMaker Pro Server, it forces me to turn Web Sharing on in System Preference. So is it possible to either replace Apache with MAMP PRO's version? Or is it possible to get FileMaker Pro to use MAMP instead of Web Sharing? If so, how can I make it happen? Also, with FileMaker Instant Web Publishing, how , how can I make my domain link directly to where FileMaker publishes it? So what I want to be able to do is type http:///mydomain.com and it direct to mydomain.com:591/FMI/IWP/

  • Anyone realize success using Apple Mac OS 10.6 and Parallels 5 for a Visual Studio Dev machine?

    Greetings my wonderful StackOverflow family :) I grew up using Windows and switched to OSX as a Computer Science major in College. I've recently started my first real software developer job, and have a ThinkPad and Windows XP for developing ASP.NET / MS SQL applications (Visual Studio 2008). Question: Basically, I am wondering if any developers out there have had real success creating ASP.NET applications on a Mac using a VM? I've been fighting with Parallels 5 all week and finally have Windows 7 and VS 2008 running but my hot-keys are all screwed up. Is it worth the work to keep beating this thing into submission? Should I give up? Should I give Mono a try instead? Thanks Folks, I can't wait to see what you all think!

  • Filemaker Pro 9 (Mac) : How do I get it to deal with absolute paths?

    I have an installation where FM Pro 9 clients open a solution from an FM Server 9. This solution then needs to access files on a network share from the clients. So far, the network share was mounted with AFP, but an infrastructure change required it to be switched to static NFS mounts. Their boot Volumes may have different names, but they all mount an NFS share at the same mount point in the "real" mount tree (starting from the UNIX root dir, /). According to http://www.filemaker.com/help/html/create_db.8.32.html#1030283 it looks like there is no way to just use a full path without having a volume name as if this was Mac OS classic - is there some way to work around this? Upgrading to a newer FileMaker is not a sought solution.
