  • Display HTML page in Office 2003 or 2007 task pane via VBA

    Is it possible to display an HTML page in an Office 2003 and/or 2007 task pane via VBA? Background: We have a complicated configuration file that our users maintain in Word (using a real editor is not an option for our audience). We would like to create several toolbar buttons that display a basic HTML page in a task pane as a form of online help for our users. The reason we want to use a task pane to display help (vs. an external browser or traditional help engine) is so that the help content is "embedded" in Word vs. displayed via a seperate application. The problem with using a regular browser or help engine to display help is that users have to manually size and position both applications so that they can see them simultaneously and its very easy to "lose" one application when togging between many applications. We don't want to go down the route of writing a VisualStudio based task pane component - we want to keep things simple (KISS) and encapsulate everything in an easy to distribute Word template file (.dot or dotx.). Suggestions?

So, I have to use Microsoft Install Clean Up to uninstall Microsoft Office. When I tried to install it again, I received this message: Microsoft Office 2007 encountered an error during setup. Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key. {a bunch of long keys}. Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft Product Support Service for assistance. For information about how to contact PSS, see {a *chm file}. After that, I tried to run the setup as administrator but I ended up with the same error. So what should I do to solve this problem?

I passed exam 70-630 - TS: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Configuring and in this posting I will give you a short overview of this very-very easy exam exam. If you are not new to SharePoint Server 2007 and you have some development experiences then this is the easiest exam from Microsoft you have ever seen. There are 51 questions in this exam and two or four of them were not familiar to me. I took me about one hour to prepare for this exam and I got 964 of 1000. Okay, I have some years of experience as SharePoint developer but these questions seemed still too easy for me to be real. I mean based on this exam you cannot accurately say if somebody is able to configure SharePoint Server or not. I think this exam should be very easy also to SharePoint Server administrators who have at least some experience with supporting and maintaining production systems running on SharePoint Server 2007.   • Audit Windows Server/Desktop Product Key usage

    The company I work for has a fairly big domain of Windows Desktops and Servers. We also have standalone servers that are remote to our site but we have direct access to. We need to audit our license usage across all Windows machines (including some VMs). I have tried a few products downloaded, but the key returned is not the one used during installation. I have one product that gives the last 5 characters correctly but needs to be installed so its not really suitable. I also have tried some PowerShell scripts one of which is here Ideally I am looking for one that can be used over a network and if possible can audit Office keys too. I've just tried Jelly Bean and some other product key tools that all return BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBB-BBBBB as the product key.

  • Microsoft Access: computer freezes when user tries to update record

    A colleague and I have developed an Access 2003 database which is used throughout our department. Currently about four dozen people do data entry using one of two very similar forms. If 47 of us use them, they work perfectly. If Mr. 48 clicks the "Save" button, Windows XP freezes and a hard reset is needed. The problem has to be on his specific computer (Dell latitude D630) and not in the code because this problem only affects him. Complicating the matter: I don't work for IS, and this project is not supported by IS. If I'm going to get our tech support to fix the problem I had better be able to explain exactly what to do and how to do it, because they aren't going to invest any resources. I don't even have admin rights on the computer (and neither does its regular user). I've asked him to bring his laptop the next time he visits my building. (Just to make matters worse, he doesn't usually work in the same location as me or the other developer.) Any suggestions on debugging the problem? My first try will be to uninstall and reinstall Office, which I can do using corporate utilities without being admin. Note: yes, those are old versions of Office and Windows. We expect to upgrade later this year.

  • Why is purchasing Microsoft licences such a daunting task? [closed]

    I've spent 2 frustrating days jumping through hoops and browsing through different local e-shops for VS (Visual Studio) 2010 Pro. And WHS (Windows Home Server) FPP 2011 licenses. I found jack .. - or to be more precise, the closest I found in my country was WHS OEM 2011 licenses after multiple emails sent to individuals found on Microsoft partners page. Question being, why is it so difficult to get your hands on Microsoft licenses as an individual? Sure, you can get the latest end user operating systems from most shops, but when it comes to development tools or server software you are left dry. And companies that do sell licenses most of the time don't even put up pricing or a self service environment for buying the licenses, you need to have an hawk's eye for that shiny little Microsoft partner logo and spam through bunch of emails not knowing, if you can count on them to get the license or not. Sure, i could whip out my credit card and buy the VS 2010 license on the online Microsoft Shop. Well whippideegoddamndoo, they sell that, but they don't sell WHS 11 licenses. Why does a company make it so hard to buy their products? Let's not even talk about the licensing itself being a pain.

  • Rename outlook2007 categories not working

    Hi, I'm new to outlook 2007 and I'm trying to rename a category. Acordingly to MS, I can achieve it by just renaming it: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA012316361033.aspx But as soon as I click the OK button, confirming the change, it returns to it's original value. For instance, if I rename the "Blue Category" to "Home" it will accept without erros. But, when I click again in the Categorize icon, I'll see that the "Blue Category" is still there, and my "Home" category does not exist. Has someone experienced this kind of problem? TIA, Bob

  • Exchange over HTTP

    I have recently setup a brand new install of SBS 2011 and it is working well. Exchange is running as advertised and all users are happy. Now, there are 2 users who would like to work outside of the office and require email setting up in Outlook. No problem - Exchange over HTTP. However for some reason it's not working. They can access Outlook Web Access okay, but for some reason Exchange over HTTP / HTTPS isn't working. The error message I receive in Outlook is: "The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." I've tried temporarily turning off the Firewall on both the server and the client but this doesn't help at all. Is there something I'm missing or is there a permission that needs enabling to allow Exchange over HTTP to work?? Many thanks

    Hello i am trying to use OpenCV 2.4.2 in Matlab 2012b. I have tried those actions: downloaded OpenCV 2.4.2 used CMake on opencv folder using Visual Studio 10 and Visual Studio 10 Win64 compiler built Debug and Release version with Visual Studio first without any other option and then with D_SCL_SECURE=1 specified for every project changed Matlab's mexopts.bat and adding new lines refering to library and include (see bottom for mexopts.bat content) with Visual Studio 10 compiler tried to compile a simple file with a OpenCV library inclusion and all goes well. try to compile something that actually uses OpenCV commands and get errors.   • Problem finding office DCOM in Component Services in Windows 7

    I have a problem getting my word and excel to work in ASP .NET. I get the error message: {System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005. at xxx.Utility.WordDocument..ctor(String filePath, HttpServerUtility util) at customer_communication.BuCreate_click(Object sender, EventArgs e) in This means I have access problem to the DCOM files. In Vista this isnt a problem, all I have to do there is to run "dcomcnfg" and in there find the Microsoft Excel dcom file. In Windows 7 I cant find it, and I have no idea what to do now... If anyone could help me that would be great!

  • Web Platform Installer bundles for Visual Studio 2010 SP1 - and how you can build your own WebPI bundles

    Visual Studio SP1 is  now available via the Web Platform Installer, which means you've got three options: Download the 1.5 GB ISO image Run the 750KB Web Installer (which figures out what you need to download) Install via Web PI Note: I covered some tips for installing VS2010 SP1 last week - including some that apply to all of these, such as removing options you don't use prior to installing the service pack to decrease the installation time and download size. Two Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Web PI packages There are actually two WebPI packages for VS2010 SP1. There's the standard Visual Studio 2010 SP1 package [Web PI link], which includes (quoting ScottGu's post): VS2010 2010 SP1 ASP.NET MVC 3 (runtime + tools support) IIS 7.5 Express SQL Server Compact Edition 4.0 (runtime + tools support) Web Deployment 2.0 The notes on that package sum it up pretty well: Looking for the latest everything? Look no further. This will get you Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 and the RTM releases of ASP.NET MVC 3, IIS 7.5 Express, SQL Server Compact 4.0 with tooling, and Web Deploy 2.0. It's the value meal of Microsoft products. Tell your friends! Note: This bundle includes the Visual Studio 2010 SP1 web installer, which will dynamically determine the appropriate service pack components to download and install. This is typically in the range of 200-500 MB and will take 30-60 minutes to install, depending on your machine configuration. There is also a Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Core package [Web PI link], which only includes only the SP without any of the other goodies (MVC3, IIS Express, etc.). If you're doing any web development, I'd highly recommend the main pack since it the other installs are small, simple installs, but if you're working in another space, you might want the core package. Installing via the Web Platform Installer I generally like to go with the Web PI when possible since it simplifies most software installations due to things like: Smart dependency management - installing apps or tools which have software dependencies will automatically figure out which dependencies you don't have and add them to the list (which you can review before install) Simultaneous download and install - if your install includes more than one package, it will automatically pull the dependencies first and begin installing them while downloading the others Lists the latest downloads - no need to search around, as they're all listed based on a live feed Includes open source applications - a lot of popular open source applications are included as well as Microsoft software and tools No worries about reinstallation - WebPI installations detect what you've got installed, so for instance if you've got MVC 3 installed you don't need to worry about the VS2010 SP1 package install messing anything up In addition to the links I included above, you can install the WebPI from http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx, and if you have Web PI installed you can just tap the Windows key and type "Web Platform" to bring it up in the Start search list. You'll see Visual Studio SP1 listed in the spotlight list as shown below. That's the standard package, which includes MVC 3 / IIS 7.5 Express / SQL Compact / Web Deploy. If you just want the core install, you can use the search box in the upper right corner, typing in "Visual Studio SP1" as shown. Core Install: Use Web PI or the Visual Studio Web Installer? I think the big advantage of using Web PI to install VS 2010 SP1 is that it includes the other new bits. If you're going to install the SP1 core, I don't think there's as much advantage to using Web PI, as the Web PI Core install just downloads the Visual Studio Web Installer anyways. I think Web PI makes it a little easier to find the download, but not a lot. The Visual Studio Web Installer checks dependencies, so there's no big advantage there. If you do happen to hit any problems installing Visual Studio SP1 via Web PI, I'd recommend running the Visual Studio Web Installer, then running the Web PI VS 2010 SP1 package to get all the other goodies. I talked to one person who hit some random snag, recommended that, and it worked out. Custom Web Platform Installer bundles You can create links that will launch the Web Platform Installer with a custom list of tools. You can see an example of this by clicking through on the install button at http://asp.net/downloads (cancelling the installation dialog). You'll see this in the address bar: http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appsxml=&appid=MVC3;ASPNET;NETFramework4;SQLExpress;VWD Notice that the appid querystring parameter includes a semicolon delimited list, and you can make your own custom Web PI links with your own desired app list.   • rdiff-backup is taking longer and longer every time it runs

    I've been running rdiff-backup for the past week or so, every night at 4am. It started out not taking that long, but its taking longer and longer and longer every time its runs every night. In some cases there are quite a few new and changed files and in other cases, not so much. It started out taking < 10 minutes, and after a week its taking over 4.5 hrs to run.     I need to test an issue with running our application behind a proxy server with different type of configurations, so I installed ISA 2006 Enterprise on a desktop computer. Since this computer only has a single network card and I want to start out easy, I chose the "Single Network Adapter" template. We have a internal NAT'ed network which is in the 10 range. I have defined the internal network on the ISA server to be 10.XXX.YY.1 - 10.XXX.YY.255 I also have the Default rule which denies all traffic, but I've added the following Rule: Policy - Protocols - From - To Accept HTTP Internal External HTTPS Local Host Internal HTTS Server Localhost Then I configured Internet Explorer on a virutal machine running XP within virtualbox with Brigded network (gets same network address range as regular computers on our network) similar to this Instead of the server name I used the IP address.
