  • Can i get RSpec to generate specs with expect syntax?

    - by papirtiger
When generating specs with : rails g controller Home index A spec is generated with the older object.should syntax require 'spec_helper' describe HomeController do describe "GET 'index'" do it "returns http success" do get 'index' response.should be_success end end end Is it possible to configure the generator to use the expect syntax instead? Desired output: require 'spec_helper' describe HomeController do describe "GET 'index'" do it "returns http success" do get 'index' expect(response).to be_success end end end in config/application.rb: config.generators do |g| g.test_framework :rspec, fixture: true g.fixture_replacement :factory_girl, dir: 'spec/factories' g.view_specs false g.stylesheets = false g.javascripts = false end

  • Click to select from a list of tags in jQuery

    - by Michael Doornbos
I'm struggling to find a tag selection UI for a rails app. Ideally it would be something like the selection here on Stackoverflow, or on Delicious or Digg. I want users to be able to select multiple tags with a single click. We're already using jQuery, so it makes sense to use something that takes advantage of that. I've used the selection ui in jQuery and I'm not thrilled about having users need to hold down ctrl to select multiple tags.

  • Notify by email when passenger error occurs

    - by foresth
Hello, is it possible to send notification emails when passenger error occurs? Something similar to the email sending by exception notifier when there is an error in Rails app. I wonder because now we have no way to find out if someone hits an unexpected app spawner or other error (like memory limit etc.). Thank you!

  • javascript ul button dropdown crashes after if doing more than 1 button

    - by Apprentice Programmer
So i have a button drop down list that i want users to select a choice, and basically the button will return the users selection.Pretty straight forward, tested on jsFiddle and works great. Using ruby on rails btw, so i'm not sure if it might conflicting the way rails handle javascript actions. Heres the code: <%= form_for(@user, :html => {:class => 'form-horizontal'}) do |f| %> <fieldset> <p>Do you have experience in Business? If yes, select one of the following: <div class="input-group"> <div class="input-group-btn btn-group"> <button type="button" class="btn btn-default dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown">Select one <span class="caret"></span></button> <ul class="dropdown-menu"> <li ><a href="#">Entrepreneurship</a></li> <li ><a href="#">Investments</a></li> <li ><a href="#">Management</a></li> <li class="divider"></li> <li ><a href="#">All of the Above</a></li> </ul> </div><!-- /btn-group --> <%= f.text_field :years_business , :class => "form-control", :placeholder => "Years of experience" %> </div> Now there are 2 more of these, and basically what happens is that if I select an item for the first time from the dropdown list, everything works great. But the moment I select the same button/or new button, the page immediately kind of refreshes, they selected value will not show up after the list drops down and user selects a value. I viewed the page source and added additional javascript src and types, but still doesnt work. the jquery code: jQuery(function ($) { $('.input-group-btn .dropdown-menu > li:not(.divider)').click(function(){ $(this).closest('ul').prev().text($(this).text()) }) }); Any suggestions what is causing the problem?? The jsfiddle link is here: http://jsfiddle.net/w4s8u/7/

When running rails server then visiting my app at 0.0.0.0:3000 I get this error. psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory. • Sun Tool-less Slide Rails Removal for X4150

    - by Ablue
I have some tool-less slide rails for some 1ru x4150 sun servers. I can't seem to see how to remove them. Sun in their wisdom did not include this seemingly important information in their documentation; they simply (possibly with a cheeky smile) say to... "Refer to the (long since lost) installation card included with the rackmount kit for instructions on attaching tool-less slide-rail assemblies to the rack." So if anyone knows please let me know.

  • Ruby on rails gems and win 7

    - by cbrulak
I have a networked home share (at work). This is my HOMEPATH,HOMESHARE,etc. When I installed the rails gem and other the .gems folder was created there (which is on a network drive) and consequently any code that needs a gem or a gem lookup is slow. And I'm wondering which environment variables need to be corrected. I've googled this but most results are dealing with cygwin so any ideas? Thanks

  • Serving Ruby pages without Rails?

  • working on lists in python

    - by owca
I'm trying to make a small modification to django lfs project, that will allow me to deactivate products with no stocks. Unfortunatelly I'm just beginning to learn python, so I have big trouble with its syntax. That's what I'm trying to do. I'm using method 'has_variants' which returns true if product has any. Then I'm building a list from variants for this product. Next for every product in this list (I've called it 'set') I check it's stock and set bool variable 'inactive' to true if product has no stocks and to false if there are any. Finally if 'inactive' is false I'm setting self.active to 0. Code fails in line with: set[] = s How to correct it ? def deactivate(self): """If there are no stocks, deactivate the product. Used in last step of checkout. """ if self.has_variants(): for s in self.variants.filter(active=True): set[] = s for var in set: if var.get_stock_amount() == 0: inactive = True else: inactive = False else: if self.get_stock_amount() == 0: inactive = True if inactive: self.active = False return 0 error log : Traceback (most recent call last): File "manage.py", line 11, in <module> execute_manager(settings) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/core/management/__i nit__.py", line 362, in execute_manager utility.execute() File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/core/management/__i nit__.py", line 303, in execute self.fetch_command(subcommand).run_from_argv(self.argv) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/core/management/bas e.py", line 195, in run_from_argv self.execute(*args, **options.__dict__) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/core/management/bas e.py", line 213, in execute translation.activate('en-us') File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/utils/translation/_ _init__.py", line 73, in activate return real_activate(language) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/utils/translation/_ _init__.py", line 43, in delayed_loader return g['real_%s' % caller](*args, **kwargs) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/utils/translation/t rans_real.py", line 205, in activate _active[currentThread()] = translation(language) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/utils/translation/t rans_real.py", line 194, in translation default_translation = _fetch(settings.LANGUAGE_CODE) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/utils/translation/t rans_real.py", line 180, in _fetch app = import_module(appname) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/site-packages/django/utils/importlib.py" , line 35, in import_module __import__(name) File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/lfs/caching/__init__.py", line 1, in <mo dule> from listeners import * File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/lfs/caching/listeners.py", line 10, in < module> from lfs.cart.models import Cart File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/lfs/cart/models.py", line 8, in <module> from lfs.catalog.models import Product File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/lfs/catalog/__init__.py", line 1, in <mo dule> from listeners import * File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/lfs/catalog/listeners.py", line 5, in <m odule> from lfs.catalog.models import PropertyGroup File "/home/purplecow/rails/purpledev/lfs/catalog/models.py", line 589 set[] = s ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax

  • jQuery AJAX requests with Rails 3

    - by elsurudo
I'm trying to do a manual jQuery AJAX request the following way: $("#user_plan_id").change(function() { $("#plan_container").load('/plans/' + this.value); }); I have the "rails.js" file included in my header, and a "<%= csrf_meta_tag %". I see from my log that the request IS getting to the server (although without the authenticity token... does rails.js even do this?), but the response is a 302 (Found) rather than 200, and no data actually gets rendered. Any ideas?

  • Rails-like console for PHP?

    - by Chad Johnson
Every so often, things work in my local PHP development environment, while in my test environment on my server, things do not. It's a nightmare to debug this. If I had a console like Rails provides, debugging would be much much simpler. Is there anything like the Rails console but for PHP? I should mention that I am using a home-brewn PHP application.

  • Uninitialized constant Encoding with sqlite3-ruby on windows

    - by Ben Scheirman
On a new machine, installed ruby with the 1-click installer for windows. Installed rails 2.3.2 and all associated gems, then I installed the sqlite3 binaries (into the c:\ruby\bin folder). Lastly I did gem install sqlite3-ruby -v=1.2.3 (which is apparently the latest version that works with windows) This error happens when I run rake db:migrate or when any ActiveRecord object is touched at runtime. The error looks like this: ** Invoke db:migrate (first_time) ** Invoke environment (first_time) ** Execute environment ** Execute db:migrate rake aborted! **uninitialized constant Encoding** <---- Any help resolving this error would be greatly appreciated! • Bundler doesn't want to install hpricot on Windows XP with Ruby 1.8.7

    - by Nick Gorbikoff
Hello I develop on a Windows machine but deploy to Debian. Trying to use hpricot with Rails 3 app. I can get the gem to install using : gem install hpricot --platform=mswin32 But when I do this in the bundle file - it keeps throwing an error (I think it's trying to install the wrong version of hpricot (not windows specific) group :production do gem "hpricot", "0.8.3" end group :development, :test do gem "hpricot", "0.8.3", :platforms => [:mswin, :mingw] end This is from another question here on stackoverflow - but it's not working for me. Any ideas? P.S.: Windows XP sp3 with Ruby 1.8.7 with Rails 3.0.3 with bundler 1.0.7 EDIT Forgot to paste my error: bundle install Fetching source index for http://rubygems.org/ which: no sudo in (.;C:\Program Files\ImageMagick-6.6.5-Q16;C:\ruby\Ruby187\bin;C:\Program Files\ActiveState Komodo Edit 6\;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\e\cmd;C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin;C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0;c:\tools;C:\gnuwin32\bin;C:\tools\wkhtmltopdf;C:\Python31;C:\Program Files\TortoiseHg\;C:\Program Files\TortoiseGit\bin; c:\program files\videolan\vlc;C:\Program Files\SMPlayer\mplayer;C:\Program Files\Git\cmd;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\Program Files\Calibre2\;c:\ruby\jruby-1.5.5\bin;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Shoes\0.r1514\..) • Build a gem with native extension (Gem::Installer::ExtensionBuildError)

    - by Arnaud Leymet
I have the following configuration: uname -a : Linux 2.6.24.2 i686 GNU/Linux (Ubuntu) ruby -v : ruby 1.9.0 (2007-12-25 revision 14709) [i486-linux] rails -v : Rails 3.0.0.beta3 gem -v : 1.3.5 rake --version : rake, version 0.8.7 make -v : GNU Make 3.81 gem env : RUBYGEMS VERSION: 1.3.5 RUBY VERSION: 1.9.0 (2007-12-25 patchlevel 0) [i486-linux] INSTALLATION DIRECTORY: /usr/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.0 RUBY EXECUTABLE: /usr/bin/ruby1.9 EXECUTABLE DIRECTORY: /usr/bin RUBYGEMS PLATFORMS: ruby x86-linux GEM PATHS: /usr/lib/ruby1.9/gems/1.9.0 /root/.gem/ruby/1.9.0 GEM CONFIGURATION: :update_sources = true :verbose = true :benchmark = false :backtrace = false :bulk_threshold = 1000 REMOTE SOURCES: http://gems.rubyforge.org/ And when I try this simple command: gem install nokogiri Here is what I get: # gem install nokogiri Building native extensions. Would that ring a bell to anyone?

  • many-to-many-to-many, incl alignment of data from diff sources

    - by JefeCoon
Re-factoring dbase to support many:many:many. At the second and third levels we need to preserve end-user 'mapping' or aligning of data from different sources, e.g. Order 17 FirstpartyOrderID => aha LineItem_for_BigShinyThingy => AA-1 # maps to 77-a LineItem_for_BigShinyThingy => AA-2 # maps to 77-b, 77-c LineItem_for_LittleWidget => AA-x # maps to 77-zulu, 77-alpha, 99-foxtrot LineItem_for_LittleWidget => AA-y # maps to 77-zulu, 99-foxtrot LineItem_for_LittleWidget => AA-z # maps to 77-alpha ThirdpartyOrderID => foo LineItem_for_BigShinyThingy => 77-a LineItem_for_BigShinyThingy => 77-b LineItem_for_BigShinyThingy => 77-c LineItem_for_LittleWidget => 77-zulu LineItem_for_LittleWidget => 77-alpha ThirdpartyOrderID => bar LineItem_for_LittleWidget => 99-foxtrot Each LineItem has daily datapoints reported from its own source (Firstparty|Thirdparty). In our UI & app we provide tools to align these, then we'd like to save them into the cleanest possible schema for querying, enabling us to diff the reported daily datapoints, and perform other daily calculations (which we'll store in the dbase also, fortunately that should be cake once we've nailed this). We need to map related [firstparty|thirdparty]line_items which have their own respective datapoints. We'll be using the association to pull each line_items collection of datapoints for summary and discrepancy calculations. I'm considering two options, std has_many,through x2 --or-- possibly (scary) ubermasterjoin table OptionA: order<<-->> order_join_table[id,order_id,firstparty_order_id,thirdparty_order_id] <<-->>line_item order_join_table[firstparty_order_id]-->raw_order[id] order_join_table[thirdparty_order_id]-->raw_order[id] raw_order-->raw_line_items[raw_order_id] line_item<<-->> line_item_join[id,LI_join_id,firstparty_LI,thirdparty_LI <<-->>raw_line_items line_item_join[firstparty_LI]-->raw_line_item[id] line_item_join[thirdparty_LI]-->raw_line_item[id] raw_line_item<<-->>datapoints = we rely upon join to store all mappings of first|third orders & line_items = keys to raw_* enable lookup of these order & line_item details = concerns about circular references and/or lack of correct mapping logic, e.g order--line_item--raw_line_items vs. order--raw_order--raw_line_items OptionB: order<<-->> join_master[id,order_id,FP_order_id,TP_order_id,FP_line_item_id,TP_line_item_id] join_master[FP_order_id & TP_order_id]-->raw_order[id] join_master[FP_line_item_id & TP_line_item_id]-->raw_line_item[id] = every combo of FP_line_item + TP_line_item writes a record into the join_master table = "theoretically" queries easy/fast/flexible/sexy At long last, my questions: a) any learnings from painful firsthand experience about how best to implement/tune/optimize many-to-many-to-many relationships b) in rails? c) any painful gotchas (circular references, slow queries, spaghetti-monsters) to watch out for? d) any joy & goodness in Rails3 that makes this magically easy & joyful? e) anyone written the "how to do many-to-many-to-many schema in Rails and make it fast & sexy?" tutorial that I somehow haven't found? If not, I'll follow up with our learnings in the hope it's helpful.. Thanks in advance- --Jeff
