  Hi, I need to install Fedora 11 in my monitor-less linux box which is running some where in a data center. I will use Fedora 11 as a virtual machine. What I already know/have: 1) How to create LVM partitions and create ext3 filesystem 2) Mount the LVM partition and ISO image 3) Run the partition with Xen as a virtual machine What I need: 1) I need to install Fedora ll file system into an lvm partition (let's say /dev/fedora11) from an ISO image so that I have all the directories /root, /bin, /sys etc etc under /dev/fedora11 Any help would be much appreciated! NOTE: I don't have a monitor for this server, so I need to do it via SSH

• Realtek audio AC 97 5.1 on Windows 7: Terrible subwoofer quality

  I have a media center PC with on-board Realtek AC97 Audio. I have been using Windows XP for a couple of years with great audio quality. I just upgraded this PC with Windows 7 and installed the latest Realtek drivers from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ At the testing screen, all the speakers works correctly (including subwoofer). Despite that, while playing any movie or music, the subwoofer quality is terrible. From it it just comes noises, in the correct rhythm but quite low and quite out of tone. I compensated the loudness by putting the other speakers lower but the sound of the subwoofer is really terrible. Is there anyone facing the same problem? Does anyone have a workaround for that? PS.: I had gone past the steps given in Terrible noises from subwoofer of ACER Aspire 6930 with Realtek sound chip but still I have a bad quality of sound. • Windows DVD Maker on Windows 8?

  Something I really miss in Windows 8 is the Windows DVD Maker. I tried to get it running on Windows 8 by copying the DVD Maker directory from Windows 7 over to Windows 8. When I run it, I get the following error: I had hoped that this could be resolved by installing the Media Center add-on for Windows 8, but that did not have any effect. Several forum posts have suggested installing a codec pack such as the K-Lite codec pack, but I have always had bad experiences with those. I did, however, try to install the Shark007 codec pack, but that didn't work either. I also tried running the following commands (which did complete successfully, mind you) in an elevated command prompt, but they didn't change the outcome. regsvr32 msmpeg2vdec.dll regsvr32 msmpeg2adec.dll regsvr32 msmpeg2enc.dll I know there are other DVD making programs out there, some are even free, but the few I have tried do not compare to Windows DVD Maker's simplicity and beauty. Is there any way to make it work on Windows 8?

• Fast user switching is logging users off instead of switching users

  I have a netbook running Windows 8.1 Pro that will no longer allow more than one user to be logged in at the same time. The steps necessary to reproduce this are as follows: The current user presses WIN to bring up the start screen. The user clicks his name in the corner and a list of other users appears. As soon as one of the other names is clicked, the user is unceremoniously logged off without any prompts. This behavior seems to have started some time after upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. Before that point, everything worked fine and more than one user could be logged in at the same time. I've tried searching for others experiencing similar problems but this appears to be unique. System Details: CPU: Intel Atom N455 @ 1.66 GHz RAM: 1 GB OS: Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center 32-bit

  For the life of me, I can't figure out how to create an ad hoc wireless network in Windows 8. Here is what happens if I follow the steps from Windows 7: Right click the network icon and click "Network and Sharing Center": Click "Set up a new connection or network": Where is the option to create an ad hoc network? Therefore I have two related questions: Did I miss something? Is it in there somewhere and I just haven't found it yet? If this feature is not available, is there a tool somewhere I can use that provides this capability? Further information: I have an Intel Wireless WiFi 4965 AGN adapter. I tried the Intel PRO wireless tool and it didn't offer an ad hoc option.

• /usr/bin/python Replacement

  If I've changed the target of /usr/bin/python from /usr/bin/python2.7 to /usr/bin/python3.2 (I realize this was an ABSOUTELY HORRIBLE idea) in Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. Afterwards, several applications, including software-center and update-manager have stopped working. Insofar as I can tell, this is because they are written in Python2.7. I replaced the default /usr/bin/python shebang with the 2.7 one, and this fixes them on the application level. Switching /usr/bin/python back to /usr/bin/python2.7 really isn't an option, but is there a list of all applications installed by default in Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, if installed from a new CD-R, that use a shebang of #!/usr/bin/python instead of #!/usr/bin/pythonX.Y?

• XFCE: active panel buttons when mouse is on screen edge

  I'm using XFCE 4.6.1 (Xubuntu distribution) on my laptop and main computer; the settings are approximately the same. so far for the intro. What I'm experiencing is that when going to the screen edge over the task bar on the laptop, the button under the mouse is active. On the main machine however, having the mouse on the screen edge, the button below it doesn't react at all! Only if I move the pointer towards the center a bit, the hover highlight starts and the button becomes clickable. I've tried to change the panel size, desktop theme and a few other settings, but none seems to cure that problem. Is there something that causes this problem? (Googling also seems to give no results)

• Why only the left speakers are working?

  I've just bought a 5.1 speakers and only the left side speakers and the center are working. If I plug in the speakers to my mp3 player than each speaker is working, so the speakers are good. I have windows 7 and I can't configure it. Please help me! I'm sure that the problem is with some settings at the computer. A while ago I had the same issue with some stereo speakers and I can't remember how I've fixed it, but it was only a setting error. I don`t think that my sound card could be the problem, because it's in-built and I have a new motherboard: asus m2n68-am. I've just tested my computer with some stereo head speakers and also only the left one was working. If I start the speakers very loud than the right speakers are making some noise, too I've connected the speakers with a two channels cable. This is the speakers type: genius sw-hf 5.1 5050 v2

• Re-deploy Reports from SCOM 2007 R2 Management Packs

  I've migrated Reporting Services on a SCOM 2007 R2 install, and noticed that the reports have not being copied. I can create a new report, but the ones I've had because of the management packs are gone. I've tried re-applying the Management Packs however it doesn't re-deploy them and when I try to access for example: Monitoring - Microsoft Windows Print Server - Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and 2003 Print Services - State View - select any item and click Alerts on the right menu. I get the following error: Date: 12/24/2010 12:40:35 PM Application: System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 Application Version: 6.1.7221.0 Severity: Error Message: Cannot initialize report. • Disable ability to add startup items in Windows 7?

  Note: This is not the question "How to disable startup items" because the simple answer is: "Use msconfig". Now as for my question: I recently am very annoyed that some programs add startup items to my PC without my knowledge after installation, I always have 2 programs which startup - Temperature monitor and the Catalyst Control Center Tray. Now, sometimes I install something and it adds startup entries, how can I make sure that no startup entries can be added to windows anymore? So what I would like to do: -Disable adding scheduled tasks (even for administrator accounts, so programs installing from them can't add startup entries too) -Disable adding startup entries to the registry (even for administrators, would changing the permissions in HKLM on the Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run to read only be enough?) -Disable all other methods of startup in Windows 7 I don't know -Set default startup of NEW installed services to "Start Manually" instead of/and block "Start Automaticly" and "Start Automaticly (Delayed)" How can I accomplish this? This is also a nice way to prevent most viruses fom running after machine reboot (if this can be accomplished).

• Wi-Fi performance in Windows 8 RP on a MacBook Air (mid 2011)

  I was able to install the Boot Camp Windows software using the executable that it provided, and there are no unrecognized or unknown devices in Device Manager. Wi-Fi works but it seems to be limited to an extremely slow 1.5Mbits. Network Center reports an 802.11n connection (at 65Mbps usually) but transfers never reach above about 200kB/s. Being limited to 1/20th of the connection speed of my internet service is quite frustrating. Does anybody experience the same issue? I have been trying to identify the Broadcom Wi-Fi chipset and a driver that I could try to upgrade to but I have made very little progress on Google on this front.

• Odd UI bug in Xcode 4.3.2

  I have this annoying UI bug when using xCode 4.3.2. Every time i press the space bar, the whole text scroll view jumps. Does anyone know why this happens, or how to stop it? edit: is happens, for example, when I'm writing comments in the code and the sentence contains a space. IT can be anywhere on the document, even in the center, doesnt have to be at the bottom of the page. After it "jumps" it goes back to where it was.

• CPU installation

  I'm in the midst of building a computer (this is my first time). When I first put the heatsink on the CPU, I was a little off center. Some of the thermal compound came off, so when I re-centered it, it isn't completely evenly distributed. So here's my question: how picky are CPUs in terms of how evenly the thermal compound is? Should I take it apart, clean it, and apply a new layer of compound? Or can I just keep an eye on the CPU temperature? (I'm not overclocking or anything, if that matters)

  Can someone explain to me how to easily setup a centos 5 (64bit) dns server? I want to use this strictly for dns for my clients who require rdns (ptr) for their domains. I do have IP delegation/authority from the data center and allocated IPs directly from ARIN. I just want to setup a Centos 5 box to use strictly as a dns server, perhaps with redundancy with a secondary, clustered (or not) dns server Server 1 = dns1.mycompany.com Server 2 = dns2.mycompany.com Then, I need simply instructions on how to create rdns records for clients upon request, especially in bulk amounts. • Suse 12.3 cannot boot after a forced shutdown

  I was doing a system update using zypper update After a while the screen was filled with this message failed to start system logging service. and the system was not responding. I had to shutdown it by holding the power button. then I started the machine again, and selected to boot suse. Then I saw the fancy boot animation(some shiny big dots gathering to the center of the screen), then the screen just turned black and the monitor sayed "no signal". then I tried to boot into suse failsafe mode, which was fine. how can I investigate into this problem?

• OSX 10.8 Corrupted User Account Using Launchctl

  I used the following command: launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist in an attempt to disable notification center. I'm not sure that I got all of the commands right and appear to have corrupted the account that I executed it from - I get a grey screen when I try to login on that account. Fortunately I have another account on the machine with admin privileges so I can still use the machine. I would however like to restore the account to a working condition preferably without having to resort to a complete system restore from my time machine backup. Is there a way of diagnosing the current status of this launchagent and returning it to its original state?

• How to add in in appendix page numbers separately from the regular heading page numbers

  I had regular page numbers on my Microsoft Word 2007 document at the bottom center of my page, starting from 1 from Insert tab Page Number Bottom of page Plain Number 2. I added an appendix with Heading 6 and followed the instructions from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290953 to create separate page numbers just for the appendix, i.e. A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2, etc. The Page Number Format configuration I did is here: ]When I try to set this however, it changes all of the page numbers to this format, even the ones that aren't from heading 6 (meaning it changes the non-appendix content to this page number format). Here's another example: 1 Heading1 has page number A-4 (note it starts at A-1 at the title page) ... Appendix A has page number A-12 I would like to change it so that 1 Heading1 has page number 4 (note it starts at 1 at the title page) ... Appendix A has page number A-1 Anyone know why this is happening? Thank you!!

I just installed view connection server component to new server and trying to do initial configuration, but when trying to log in I get following error " Error accessing the View Administrator. • Cannot boot from USB on my Mac mini

  Two weeks ago I installed OSX 10.8 on my Mac mini. After that, my system started to hang a lot, so I tried to erase it and install OSX 10.7 again. I used carbon Copy Cloner to make the bootable USB and it can load successfully on another Macbook. However, on my Mac mini, when I press on the option button to select the USB, it loads the white screen with a ban symbol at the center of the screen. After a moment, my machine automatically shuts down. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I restored the booting partition by disk utility (drag the dmg file to that partition). After restarting and using that partition to boot, prohibited symbol is still there

• I install Ubuntu 13.10 and reboot and im on KDE desktop?

  Hi I'm Jacob and I have no idea what's going on. I installed Ubuntu 13.10 today and was playing around with it for a while and dl'd a bunch of apps from software center and stuff. Eventually I installed steam and (finally) got it working. I downloaded TF2 and had some weird issue where the screen got so distorted to the point I could not play. So I dl'd a driver for my graphics card from the additional drivers app (or whatever it's called) and when it was done I restarted my computer (because it said to.) When the PC booted up it loaded the KDE desktop and I have no idea why. I had unity before I rebooted. Ubuntu 13.10 is the only OS installed on my PC, and I still have all the apps that I downloaded, but I kinda like unity (I started using Ubuntu after they switched to unity) and want it back. Alternatively, do you have any ideas for setting up one at home using a proxy with an auto updating list? UPDATE - AutoUpdating list so the new sites are categorized and downloaded and the filtering is done by category instead of per site e.g. peerblock works this way Appliance as in a small dedicated hardware or device to perform this task, like WD TV live or Acer Aspire Revo with the media center edition I'd be ok with setting up Squid / Linux / SquidGuard even if i'm not familiar with *nix but ideally a small form factor pc with dual nic's would be ideal so it can be out of sight for the most part !

• Is it possible to rent an IP address to mask the server real IP address?

  A customer would like to lease an IP address and point it to a dedicated web server with the intention of "masking" the server's IP address so it would be difficult to tell where the site is hosted. • Windows Color Calibrator Does Not Retain Color Settings

  When I try to calibrate the monitor using Windows 7's color calibrator, the monitor rejects changes to the color settings. For example, one of my monitors has a blueish tinge. If I click my mouse to tone down the blue and then let go of my mouse the monitor will go back to being blueish. At the moment, I am getting around the problem by using the color controls in the monitor's on screen displays. How can I get the color calibrator to work? Update: I tried checking the color settings in the ATI Radeon Catalyst Control Center and noticed that I can't do anything. The "Reactivate ATI color controls" button keeps flashing and any changes I try to make are discarded instantly.

• What is polarity for an unmarked USB hub?

  On my USB hub where the power supply plugs in, the polarity is unmarked (I got it used, from my brother's friend). I need to know what the polarity should be. I don't think it makes a difference about the brand. Could someone who has a USB hub tell me what the polarity markings are? This is why I need to know about the polarity: Usually the center pin is positive and the outer pin is negative. But I'm not sure with this, and want to be certain before I plug anything into it.
