What software would you recommend on the remote Ubuntu server to make this possible? i have tried squid3 but i don't need 95% of its future plus its complicated. i just need a simple server able to go grab the data and return it back to the user simple as that no user authentication required nor DB or ACL .. thank you

• gnome-file-share-properties doesn't work

  I've configured gnome-file-share-properties on all my Ubuntu's PC for sharing the directory Public to each other. I following some guide found on Internet for the configuration of it, all explain the same procedure but in my case I don't see any Public directory shared with the PC. Following this link http://library.gnome.org/users/gnome-user-share/stable/gnome-user-share-getting-started.html.en I'd see the directory Public plus the name of PC that shares its directory on Nautilus Places. In my case I don't see anything, therefore on the Network place see all the machines 'n if I try to click on one receive this: "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" note: I don't want to use Samba because I've all Ubuntu PC, and the firewall is disabled on all PC.

  What high-level game engine would you recommend to develop a 2D game prototype on windows? (or mac/linux if you wish) The kind of things I mean by "high-level" includes (but is definitely not limited to): not having to manage low-level stuff like screen buffers, graphics contexts having an API to draw geometric shapes well, I was going to omit it but I guess being based on an actual "high-level" language is a plus (automatic resource management and the existence a reasonable set of data structures in the standard library come to mind). It seems to me that Flash is the proverbial elephant in the room for this query but I'd very much like to see different answers based on all kinds of languages or SDKs.

  If as in the FAQ, that topics about business (computer industry) is allowed here, I'd like to find out why Instagram can be so valuable, that it is acquired for $1 billion dollars (USD). To put it simply, isn't it just a photo enhancement app (such as making a photo vintage look), plus sharing those photos on Facebook? That's because in contrast, PlayFish had superb Facebook games, and many of them, and are so much more sophisticated (such as Restaurant City and Pet Society). And PlayFish was merely acquired for $400 million. Some companies such as RockYou, had the number one app on Facebook, but wasn't even acquired for a low price like $200 million. And now just a photo filter app and sharing photos, and it is a business considered to be worth a billion dollars. Why is that?

  When I try to connect my Google account, the following happens: I open "Online Accounts" - the Google account appears in the left hand margin. When I highlight it, I am invited to grant access.   Usually, it is very interesting to compare the 'same' software applications and apps between various platforms, and the Pluralsight offline players are an outstanding example to have a closer look at. The original Silverlight desktop offline player, the iOS app of Pluralsight and the new HTML5 online player all have variable playback speed. Just the Android app doesn't. But not for long. A couple of days Pluralsight finally announced that their development department found a reliable solution to provide flexible speeds. For the brave ones among us, please have a look at the public beta they are offering on their blog article.  Please be aware of, that using any Pluralsight offline player requires to have a Plus subscription.   I'm getting ready for my first "bigger" .NET project (ASP.NET MVC 3/4) on which I'm going to lead another 2 programmers and right now I'm choosing the right version control system for the job (plus I'm gonna use it for my future development too). My problem is that I did't use any version control system before, so I would like it to have as fast learning curve and intuitive merging as possible. So far I quickly looked at VisualSVN (I like the Visual Studio integration in it), but I'm reading everywhere how Git is awesome and dunno which one to choose (not limited to these two).. Maybe I'm ovethinking this but I like when everything goes smoothly:) I'd like to hear some opinions from people who used multiple version control systems (preferably on VS projects) what do you think is the less complicated and effective version control system for such a use (one to 5 man projects)?

  What tools exist to facilitate pair programming with Visual Studio when the programmers are not in the same physical location? At the moment we are thinking voice (Skype?) plus remote desktop (VNC? TeamViewer?), but it would be good to know of other suggestions and experiences. Also, is there anything more integrated with Visual Studio? A bit more background: we are two experienced developers with who have collaborated well for a long time on a large mature project (ASP.NET, Windows Forms and SQL Server). However we are not usually working on the same part of the code base at the same time. We intend to spend some weeks doing substantial refactoring and it would be ideal if we were able to do this work with a pair-programming approach.
