    I would like to send a few videos for my girlfriend, but I would ensure they are playable on her mobile phone. I want to carry out the encoding tasks on my Arch Linux box, because my PC is a low end. I can use only ffmpeg or mencoder or other CLI tool. She can play youtube videos but I don't want to upload such videos to youtube. Are there any presets for specific mobile phones? And when she simply clicks a video direct link will it play directly on the cellphone or should I embed it in a html5 / flash player, like on youtube?

I want to create navigation that is common across the entire site, but when I place the Html.Action into my master page, it only works on views associated with 1 controller.   • Grand Central Strategy for Opening Multiple Files

    I have a working implementation using Grand Central dispatch queues that (1) opens a file and computes an OpenSSL DSA hash on "queue1", (2) writing out the hash to a new "side car" file for later verification on "queue2". I would like to open multiple files at the same time, but based on some logic that doesn't "choke" the OS by having 100s of files open and exceeding the hard drive's sustainable output. Photo browsing applications such as iPhoto or Aperture seem to open multiple files and display them, so I'm assuming this can be done. I'm assuming the biggest limitation will be disk I/O, as the application can (in theory) read and write multiple files simultaneously. Any suggestions? TIA

  • can i change the black background of an iphone app?

    My app is structured like this, a single MainWindow with window backgroundColor to white(which doesn't appear anywhere anyway), and in this nib i have a UINavigationController which doesn't seems to have a backgroundColor. Any view controller is added from code and made from code and they have a gray background. What happens is that when i rotate the iphone and the views are rotating as well, i see a black background under my views. Can this be changed? It looks ugly especially if i have a photo that is rotating in the same time with my gray background.

    Hello I would like to know if there is any API feature that can tell me which users liked my application page. I know that it is possible to check if a user is a fan of any given Page using page.isFan verification or to get the number of fans. But is it possible to get the fans' User ID? If so, is it possible to get that data ordered by the date they became fans of the page? For exemple usign FQL i can get the user ID of someone o like an facebook object like post or photo. http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/fql/like Can i do this for the people who liked my page?   • Owner of uploads directory is `www-data` but this prevents FTP access via PHP scripts

    To allow write access to Apache, I needed to chown www-data:www-data /var/www/mysite/uploads to my site's upload folder. This allows me to delete files from the folder via unlink() in a PHP script. Unfortunately, this prevents another PHP script, which uses FTP functions, from working. I think it is because the FTP user is mike and now that the uploads directory is owned by www-data, mike cannot access it. I added mike to the group www-data, but this does not fix the issue. Can somebody advise me on how to allow PHP FTP functions to work in addition to file deletion using PHP's unlink() function?

    Hi, I've been using FTP Synchronizer for awhile and generally have had pretty good results with it. But, I've just moved to a Mac full-time (at work as well as home now) so want to get a native client if I can. I've tried the only one that I've found - SuperFlexibleSynchronizer - but it crashed every time I loaded up an FTP to FTP synch attempt. The most important features to me are: 1) ability to synch with a large number of files (thousands), as I generally work on sites with large number of files. 2) FTP to FTP synch. This would be very helpful as I work with some CMS based sites for which users upload files while on staging and don't want to move files locally first before moving live. Thanks! Evan

    Hello, I am new to colocation. I am looking for a good place to host my server that would have around 5-10 Source Servers (Team Fortress 2). I am looking at maybe around 90 players at a time for now, players coming from all over the United States Could I get more info on what I am suppose to look for exactly? Would it be correct for me to get a 100Mb/s line and does 100Mb/s line in the following example actually be 100Mb/s upload bandwidth? Example: package 4 of FDC's services: http://www.fdcservers.net/server_colocation.php also I want to get something unmettered. I do not want to have to ever worry about going over some bandwidth limit or any DDOS attacks killing me.   • How do I set up an sftp user to login with a password to an EC2 ubuntu server ?

    Hello, I have an Ubuntu Server running on an EC2 instance. To login to that server I use a certificate file without any password. I've installed and configured vsftpd and created a user (let's call him "testuser") for which I've set a /bin/false ssh terminal so it will only be able to connect via sftp and upload/access files on his home directory. However - when I try to connect to the server from my computer, running sftp testuser@my-ec2-server I get Permission denied (publickey). Connection closed messages so I can't log in. How can I remove the certificate requirement for this user only (meaning, the "ubuntu" user will still have to use the certificate file to login via ssh), so normal sftp clients will be able to connect using a username and a password ? Thank you. PS Using Ubuntu Server 10.10 official AMI from canonical, 64bit on a micro instance.

    I have SlideShowPro, a Flash photo app that loads an XML file with the paths to the images. Now I don't want people to go sniff in the XML file to get to the images. I tried changing the file images.xml to spacer.gif and it seems to work fine. But I would like to know if I would run into any problems changing the extension. btw already used a few techniques to make the images not so accessible, I know there is no bulletproof solution. Obfuscating the XML file is just another trick..

    I'm looking for an Antivirus package that is compliant with Windows Server 2008. That's not the hard part. What I need is an API layer on the Antivirus that i can call from managed .net code. For example: I am developing an Asp.Net (C#) website that allows users to upload files to the web server which the web site resides on. We have full control of the server so there are no security/rights issues on the server. I need to be able to run the antivirus algorithm on the newly uploaded files without (hopefully) shelling out to a command-ilne version of the software. Does anyone know of such a package?

    How can I find out if mod_security is installed on my apache server? I would also like to learn its version. I'm having some upload issues and I tried to disable mod_security using .htaccess. But that started producing 500 internal server errors. I read somewhere that depending on my mod_security version I might not be able to disable it using .htaccess. So I would like to understand if I have mod_security installed and what version it is. I'm on a centos 5 box. Thanks!     I would like to get some clarification about the correct way to create limited users to access to my VPS user as WEBSERVER with Nginix. I'm used to NOT install FTP and access via SFTP only. It is ok for every set up? this is what I usually do from to create a limited user called "admin" that should be able to have access via SFTP to the folder with the website data mkdir -p /var/www/mysite.com/ adduser admin adduser admin www-data chown -R root:root /var/www chmod -R 755 /var/www chmod -R 755 /var/www/mysite.com chown -R admin:www-data /var/www/mysite.com/ It seems not to be the correct way, I always have problems with permission when I upload some files (for example with Wordpress in general). I would like to create an user that does work exactly as the one that the "provides" give to their client when they buy an Hosting service (that is a FTP, I would prefer SFTP access). It is for personal user, but I think that a limited user is a lot safer to use then the "root" via SFTP.

    I'm a programmer by trade, "server administrator" by company necessity. We're looking at dumping the old painful "update site by FTP upload" style of deployment. Having the webserver check out the latest code base from version control into a folder and having a "current" symlink point to the latest checkout (allowing for easily stepping back to an older version by changing the symlink) seems to be the way we want to go. But I have a question: what's a good practice for dealing with user-uploaded content? This stuff isn't in version control. I have a couple of ideas for dealing with this, but what is the smart, accepted practice?

    I am trying to delete JPEG files that were uploaded to the server via FTP. The files are uploaded and written with permissions of 644. The owner and group of the upload directory are mike and mike. I have tried changing the owner and group to www-data, but that does not seem to work. I am trying to delete the files with a PHP script using unlink(). This works on the production server (which is a hosting service), but not my development server, which is a LAMP setup. This leads me to believe it has something to do with permissions on my development server.

  • Rails - building an absolute url in a model's virtual attribute without url helper

    I have a model that has paperclip attachments. The model might be used in multiple rails apps I need to return a full (non-relative) url to the attachment as part of a JSON API being consumed elsewhere. I'd like to abstract the paperclip aspect and have a simple virtual attribute like this: def thumbnail_url self.photo.url(:thumb) end This however only gives me the relative path. Since it's in the model I can't use the URL helper methods, right? What would be a good approach to prepending the application root url since I don't have helper support? I would like to avoid hardcoding something or adding code to the controller method that assembles my JSON. Thank you

    I have a task to research the possibilities of LDAP as a centralized Address Book. I have setup a openLDAP on debian 5.07. I managed to search the LDAP contacts from MS Outlook 2007 (with some drawbacks like Outlook cant recognize street and organization fields). My question is, is it possible ,& how, to sync data on LDAP server with applications that support LDAP? I could not find any data on this topic. EDIT: The point is, to have a centralized list of contacts that can be sync with various applications, for instance Outlook, Thunderbird, Phonebook on mobile phones...etc The Question is, Is it possible to transfer (update) data on a client application from LDAP database and viceversa? So not to search LDAP server data, but to download contact that are not available in the client application (Outlook) and upload data to LDAP if the contact is in (Outlook) and not in LDAP database and the other way around, in other words synchronize.

  • Changing <img src="XXX" />, js event when new image has finished loading?

    I have a photo gallery web page where a single <img src="XXX" /> element's src is changed (on a click) with javascript to show the next image—a poor man's ajax I guess. Works great on faster connections when the new image appears almost immediately. Even if it takes a few seconds to load, every browser I've tested it on keeps the old image in place until the new one is completely loaded. It's a little confusing waiting those few seconds on a slow connection, though, and I'm wondering if there's some javascript event that fires when the new image is done loading, allowing me to put a little working... animated gif or something up in the meantime. I know I could use AJAX for real (I'm using jQuery already), but this is such a nice and simple solution. Besides this lag, is there any other reason I should stay away from this approach to changing images? thanks.

I understand I should start with creating aliases for all email accounts within the exchange server, in Google Apps, and here I'm not sure how am I supposed to explain the Exchange that the DNS have changed without losing emails.'' Second thing is: How can I safely move the up-to 3GB mailboxes from the Exchange server to the new Google Apps accounts? Must it be with Outlook data files? If so, how do I actually upload the data files into the Google Apps account? And if not, what would be a proper way to do so? Would really appreciate any kind of help.

    As part of the upcoming TextMate 2 release, there will be a new feature called rmate, which will allow you to edit files from a remote machine (Linux/Unix/OSX) via SSH using your local copy of TextMate... Is there something similar for Windows? I know i could use CyberDuck, find the file i want to edit, download locally, work on it and then re-upload, but rmate looks like you just type rmate on the remote server, and text mate pops up with the file. (i have not tried since i am not a TextMate owner) Is there something similar for Windows?

    We're creating an ASP.Net MVC site that will need to store 1 million+ pictures, all around 2k-5k in size. From previous ressearch, it looks like a file server is probably better than a db (feel free to comment otherwise). Is there anything special to consider when storing this many files? Are there any issues with Windows being able to find the photo quickly if there are so many files in one folder? Does a segmented directory structure need to be created, for example dividing them up by filename? It would be nice if the solution would scale to at least 10 million pictures for potential future expansion needs.

    At the moment I'm using filezilla to deploy new versions of a site to the live server. the trouble is that there are one or two config, bootstrap etc. files which are different for the live site and I have to be careful not to overwrite. Also there are big areas of code that never change (eg I use the zend framework, which is always the same). I'd like to be able to record a macro to upload the same bunch of files and folders every time, excluding subdirectories and files which shouldn't be overwritten. Does any ftp client offer this?

    Hi all, I'm working on an iPhone app and I need to be able to display images to users. I have already gotten the code that takes the photo and stores it into the filesystem working well. Now I just need to figure out how to display the image. I've looked at the Three20 project I've read about on a few of the posts here, but it seems a bit cumbersome and like an extra dependency to import link and combine all of the Three20 library into my little app. Are there any other ways or a more streamlined library that will let me display photos to my users?
