  • how to change the ubuntu logo which appears while booting the ubuntu?

    Hi, how can i replace ubuntu logo,(white logo with black background) which comes very first while booting (it also comes while shuting down) in ubuntu 9.10. I am able to replace other images, which comes after this image. I have done it by replaceing my images with the images present in /usr/share/images/xflash.But it is not possible to replace the mentioned image by this way. Where the above mentioned image (white with black bg) will be stored? Thank you for answering...

  • Mapping a BigInteger to a circle

    I have a C# system using 160 bit numbers, stored in a BigInteger. I want to display these things on a circle, which means mapping the 0-2^160 range into the 0-2Pi range. How would I do this? The approach that jumps instantly to mind is angle = (number / pow(2, 160)) * TwoPi; However, that has complexities because the division will truncate the result into an integer.

    Ok, so I've downloaded some TTS engines to replace the default microsoft TTS engine, and make my program sound a little more 'human' -- basically i am wondering where abouts the TTS engine files are stored on the local pc (windows 7) -- the files i have are in .Dat format, does anyone have any idea where abouts the should go to be registered as a voice for Text-to-Speech?     So a lot of web apps have the customer choose their own subdomain, ie mycompany.webapp.com Presumably, every subdomain works off the same set of files and the unique subdomain is perhaps stored as a session object. So how does the URL rewriting work? If someone goes to mycompany.webapp.com, you have to rewrite their unique address to a dynamic page to set the session variable, ie webapp.com/mypage.php?cusomer=mycompany But then when you redirected, you'd be at webapp.com/theappdirectory/ and not mycompany.webapp.com/ So how do they do it?

  • Redirect output of Python program to /dev/null

    I have a Python executable, written and compiled by somebody else, that I simply need to run once halfway down my own bash script. The program uses a text-based UI, therefore waits for input before proceeding, but the key operations it performs when starting are required in my bash script. A messy (and strange) procedure I know, but unfortunately I haven't got any other options. I've gotten around forcefully closing the program with a kill signal, but the program's TUI insists on outputting to wherever it's run. I've tried redirecting both stdout and stderr to /dev/null and running the program in the background by suffixing an ampersand, but simply can't get it to play ball. I believe the cause is the program spawns other processes, and the output redirection of the parent process doesn't affect them. Is there any trick I can utilise to redirect all output from child processes too?

    Hi, I have an application where I receive each data 40.000 rows. I have 5 million rows to handle (500 Mb MySQL 5.0 database). Actually, thoses rows are stored in the same table = slow to update, hard to backup, ... Which king of scheme is used in such application to allow long term accessibility to the datas without problems with too big tables, easy backup, fast read / write ?   • Version control and branching when using Oracle

    Hi folks: At work we're using Oracle and C#/ASP.net to handle a customer's website, this site is very large-scale so the database is very large. We use Perforce for our version control, and tack create or replace scripts to FogBugz cases whenever a database change, which has been fine until now, as we are now at a point where five developers are working on five expansions for the system, each on a seperate Perforce branch. Unfortunately, we cannot get duplicate databases, due to the database size, so everyone is still working from the same one. This is obviously a cause of problems: only ten minutes ago we had a bit of an issue where a stored procedure change for a branch propagated over to the Pre-Production server and caused a large number of crashes for the testers. Ideally, we would like a way to track these changes without having to manually keep track of them through FogBugz. My question is: how do you lot handle this situation? I'm sure there must be a good way by now to handle versioning, or at least tracking changes, in an Oracle database.

  • Using SQL Server specific code in Access linked to SQL Server database

    Hi, I have an access file that is linked (through an ODBC connection) to a SQL Server 2008 database. I am trying to write some reports against this database. However, Access chokes when I write the select query of the report with SQL syntax specific to SQL Server that doesn't exist in access. Shouldn't this work, since it's the SQL Server engine running the queries and just sending the data back to Access to display? Is there any way to get this to work? Need this to work on any combination of Access 2007 and 2010, and SQL Server 2005 and 2008. Edit Note: I cannot create a SQL Server stored procedure or function, or otherwise modify the original (SQL Server) schema in any way.

  • What are the benefits of using ORM over XML Serialization/Deserialization?

    I've been reading about NHibernate and Microsoft's Entity Framework to perform Object Relational Mapping against my data access layer. I'm interested in the benefits of having an established framework to perform ORM, but I'm curious as to the performance costs of using it against standard XML Serialization and Deserialization. Right now, I develop stored procedures in Oracle and SQL Server that use XML Types for either input or output parameters and return or shred XML depending on need. I use a custom database command object that uses generics to deserialize the XML results into a specified serializable class. By using a combination of generics, xml (de)serialization and Microsoft's DAAB, I've got a process that's fairly simple to develop against regardless of the data source. Moreover, since I exclusively use Stored Procedures to perform database operations, I'm mostly protected from changes in the data structure.   • Is the Angular templateCache shared between apps? Is it persistent?

    If I have two Angular apps that run on the same domain, will/can they share data in the templateCache? Or is the cache unique to each main application module? In general I'm trying to understand what dictates when a new templateCache is created. Furthermore I'm not clear on whether or in what way the templateCache is persistent? Looking in local storage and cookies, I don't see where anything is getting stored.

  • Backup Linux Root Partition (Fedora 12)

    I setup my partition scheme to have an extra partition the size of my / partion. I have a separate home directory partition. Essentially, I will be doing things that might make my OS unstable so I'd like to backup the OS state but without bothering my home directory. Can I just backup (maybe with dd?) my root partition to another partition on the HDD? I know to restore it I would have to boot up with a livecd or something and do the reverse procedure. I want this to be as simple and require the least amount of external hardware as possible.

    Hi! I am trying to update data in a table view using a NSMutableArray. Quite simple :( What is happening is that I get my data from a NSURLConnection Callback, which I parse and store it in an array and call reload data on the table view. The problem is that when cellForRowAtIndexPath is called back by the framework. The array still shows the correct count of the elements but all string objects I had stored earlier are shown as invalid. Any pointers
