  • Migrating SBS 2003 to 2012 standard

    My company is currently trying to migrate a Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012. We know the general procedure, but we want to make sure we aren't going to mess anything up tremendously. Here's the steps we were planning on taking: 1. Uninstall exchange 2. Remove legacy GPO's 3. Demote the domain controller 4. Promote the new server to the primary domain controller. We have no mail servers to worry about. My question is, will the above method work or will we need to make a complete new domain? Thanks!

The problem is, when some user edit the database or file directly to database or file, I can't get the changed values. Now, I want to implement something like ApplicationSettingChangeListener. So if the data changes, I will refresh my application settings. Do you have any suggestions how this can be implemented?

  • Combine drivers from multiple Win7 installs to single image

    I need to prepare a Windows 7 image with drivers for multiple systems (Lenovo laptops). I currently have an image prepared on one laptop type but need to grab the drivers appropriate for the other laptop types as well to ensure that it works on all systems. From what I can tell, the procedure will be: create a boot CD with imageX take a .wim image prepared on the first type of systems take .wim images from the other systems mount the other images in WAIK extract the drivers from the other images inject the drivers into the first .wim boot a system with the boot CD and redeploy the updated .wim image into the Windows partition take an image of the drive with usual imaging tools This all seems a little too convoluted, but I'm willing to do it to get the proper drivers into the image. This is (seemingly) necessarily complicated by having more than one OS on the disk image. Am I on the right track?

  • nVidia Driver - Laptop is forced as one of my monitors

    I am trying to get my nVidia Driver to correctly configure my multi-monitor setup. I have my laptop in a docking station and two monitors hooked up to it. I had an old driver that this worked correctly with. However, that driver was causing a lot of "Deferred Procedure Calls" so I upgraded to a newer driver. But now I am forced to use my Laptop monitor as one of my monitors. Here is the image in the nVida Control Panel: As you can see, both monitors are recognized, but the only options available are to use one of them with the Laptop Display. Any Ideas? I am running Windows XP (latest updates), I have an nVidia Quadro 1500M. I have tried several different driver versions and all the new ones have this issue.

  • Hot swapping for Linux web/database servers

    Is there a way to perform the following under Linux: There are two web servers, main and backup There are two database servers (postgres), main and backup Web Servers are in sync with each other, ie. configuration/content/applications are the same Backup database is continuously synced up with main database. If either of main servers goes down, it's being replaced with backup one on the fly. When main database server goes back up, all the data from backup server is uploaded to it. Essentially, I need the hot swapping working automatically with no or minimal user intervention, if possible. Recovery procedure is preferably automatic but can include some manual steps.

    I have concerns about the performance of the following architecture: j2ee application in an appserver, ejb session bean and DAOs remote (rich) client, a swing app. A classic, form-based client only one stateless ejb, the ejb is accessed via web services, not rmi, through a homegrown framework each web service request will get authenticated against an LDAP no state stored on the server, only client-side sessions I guess working on the rich GUI will involve a remote call in every 2-10 seconds, or more, per user. What do you think?

  • Check if NSURL is Local File

    This is a pretty simple question- how can I check if a NSURL is linking to a local file? I know, RTFM, but I checked the documentation and I don't seem to see any methods related to this. The only methods I did find were -isFileReferenceURL and -isFileURL, but I think these only check if the URL directly links to a file. note: I'm making an iPhone app, so by "local file" I mean a .html file stored in the project's resources.   • OOM-Killer called every now and then..

    Hello there, i have a dedicated server where i've installed apache2, as well as Rails Passenger. Although i have 2GBs of RAM and most times about 1,5GB is free, there are some random times when i lose ssh and generic connectivity because oom-killer is killing processes. I suppose there is a memory leak but i cannot find out where it comes from. oom-killer kills apache2, mysql, passenger, whatever. Yesterday, i did a "cat syslog | grep -c oom-killer" and got 57 occurences ! It seems that something seriously destroys the memory. Once i reboot, everything comes back to normal. I suspect that it can be related to Passenger, but i'm still trying to figure it out. Can you think of anything else, or do you have anything to suggest that will make the leak identification procedure easier ? (i was even thinking of writing a bash script, to be run with cron for like every 5 minutes).

  • Validating against a Schema with JAXB

    I've been looking for solutions to this problem for far too long considering how easy it sounds so I've come for some help. I have an XML Schema which I have used with xjc to create my JAXB binding. This works fine when the XML is well formed. Unfortunately it also doesn't complain when the XML is not well formed. I cannot figure out how to do proper full validation against the schema when I try to unmarshall an XML file. I have managed to use a ValidationEventCollector to handle events, which works for XML parsing errors such as mismatched tags but doesn't raise any events when there is a tag that is required but is completely absent. From what I have seen validation can be done againsta schema, but you must know the path to the schema in order to pass it into the setSchema() method. The problem I have is that the path to the schema is stored in the XML header and I can't knwo at run time where the schema is going to be. Which is why it's stored in the XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <DDSSettings xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="/a/big/long/path/to/a/schema/file/DDSSettings.xsd"> <Field1>1</Field1> <Field2>-1</Field2> ...etc Every example I see uses setValidating(true), which is now deprecated, so throws an exception.     If I have large articles that need to be stored in a database, each associated with many tables would a NoSQL option help? Should I copy the 1000 char articles over multiple "buckets", duplicating them each time they are related to a bucket or should I use a normalized MySQL DB with lots of Memcache?

  • UIPicker EXC_BAD_ACCESS after repeated usage

    i populate uipicker's datasource from array built with sqlite database stored data. everythiongs works fine.. for a little while. after 6-7 spinnings, the picker freeze, and I get EXC_BAD_ACCESS. debugger indicates the program stopped in the main () function. so, how could this happen? working for a while, and then, suddenly exit like that? thanks
