    Hi , I have a ssis 2005 project. I have to add a zipping task.ie, i have to zip a text file. But i have to follow DB standards of the ORG. strictly. 1) No 3rd party software in the DB server.Not even resourec kit tools 2) No exe's in the DB server. so i cant use(windows resource kit tools,7-zip, and a execute process task to invoke a c# exe.) please suggest me a way to achieve zipping in ssis without compromising the DB standards.Any zip task is available as an addin to SSIS 2005?   • Good workflow for website design

    I would like some idea about a good workflow for Website Design, with a high degree of "offshoring" (Elance, Odesk etc.). I would to do as much as possible "pre production", with client input, ideas etc. stored in IA diagrams, wireframe mockups etc. in something like a Wiki. Also a like the idea about having different people come up with different design proposals. Wouldlike to have some ideas of costs of different phases and tasks ($, %, hours). With Design I mean roughly the aspects of a site that can be done with client-side tools, especially XHTML and CSS. What other tools should I use than IA diagrams.

  • To be a lazy developer or not to be a lazy developer?

    Am I a lazy developer? Is it being lazy to use automated tools, such as code generators and such? Now, I could, if I had to, create all the data layers and entities I needed, but I choose to use CodeSmith to generate my datalayers and entities. I also use Resharper and I would say it fights with MSDeploy as to which gets installed first after Visual Studio. Again if I had to, I could code without it, but prefer not to. Both these tools from my point of view are no brainers as they improve output massively. But is this lazy? I'm sure there are purists out there that would say everything should be wirtten by you so you know what everything is doing, but if you can read through the code and see what is happening is that ok? So am I being lazy or am I just using all the cards in my hand?

    i notice that Java has a number of ancillary scripting languages. Clojure and Groovy for example. My understanding is that these can be used when the full might and power of Java does not need to be applied and a speedy cludge can be hacked in Groovy/Clojure. But at the end of the day the scripting tools contribution gets compiled into the application Question 1) Is there a similar scripting in x-code? I was not so interested in Python or Ruby in this situation as they are languages in their own right added in, as indeed i think can happen in Java, but i was looking for a purpose built tools. Question 2) If there is such a tool would it count the application out vis-a-vis the new Apple guidelines as to what can be used to generate iXxx apps?

  • When to stop following the advice of static code analysis?

    I do use static code analysis on a project with more than 100.000 lines of Java code for quite a while now. I started with Findbugs, which gave me around 1500 issues at the beginning. I fixed the most severe over time and started using additional tools like PMD, Lint4J, JNorm and now Enerjy. With the more severe issues being fixed, there is a huge number of low severity issues. How do you handle these low priority issues? Do you try fixing all of them? Or only in newly written code? Do you regularly disable certain rules? (I found that I do on nearly any of the available tools). And if you ignore or disable rules, do you document those? What do your managers say about "leaving some thousand low priority issues not fixed"? Do you use (multiple) tool specific comments in the code or is there any better way?

    I'm using GNU Make 3.81, and I have the following rule in my Makefile: jslint : java org.mozilla.javascript.tools.shell.Main jslint.js mango.js \ | sed 's/Lint at line \([0-9]\+\) character \([0-9]\+\)/mango.js:\1:\2/' This works fine if I enter it directly on the command line, but the regular expression does not match if I run it with "make jslint". However, it works if I replace \+ with \{1,\} in the Makefile: jslint : java org.mozilla.javascript.tools.shell.Main jslint.js mango.js \ | sed 's/Lint at line \([0-9]\{1,\}\) character \([0-9]\{1,\}\)/mango.js:\1:\2/' Is there some special meaning to \+ in Makefiles, or is this a bug?

  • How can I fit an Image into another imageview

    I have an imageview with a default image already set from the xml, and I want to change it's image pragmatically so that the new image will scale to the previous image size, both of the images are rounded. I have tried setting the scaleType attribute to different values before setting the new image but it didn't work. I know there are a lot of API for the web, but I was wondering what the best solution is for a desktop application.   • ClickOnce installing prereqs out of order

    I have an Outlook plugin that I am deploying using ClickOne (right click on project file, choose publish, etc...). I recently created a blank XP VM with only Office 2007 installed. My ClickOnce installer recognizes that I need my three prerequisites (Office 2007 PIAs, .Net 3.5 Sp1, and VSTO 2010 tools). They download fine but then the installer tries to install the Office 2007 PIAs first and my install fails because .Net 3.5 Sp1 and VSTO 2010 tools are prerequisites for the Office 2007 PIAs. How can I change the install order of my prerequisites? Also, are there better options for deploying ClickOnce's applications?

    Hello app engineers! I'm on an app engine project where I'd like to put in a link to a Javascript test runner that I'd like to only exist when running the development server. I've made some experiments on a local shell with configuration loaded using the technique found in NoseGAE versus live on the 'App Engine Console' [1] and it looks to me like a distinction btw real instance and dev server is the presence of the module google.appengine.tools. Which lead me to this utility function: def is_dev(): """ Tells us if we're running under the development server or not. :return: ``True`` if the code is running under the development server. """ try: from google.appengine import tools return True except ImportError: return False The question (finally!) would be: is this a bad idea? And in that case, can anyone suggest a better approach?     For doing prototyping on small embedded projects that require physical motion, what hardware prototyping tools are available? For my projects, I tend to spend more time finding parts (i.e. wood, aluminum, etc.) and making the proper cuts, measurements, and connections than writing the software and configuring the electrical hardware. Are there any affordable products that will enable me to create physical hardware that is strong enough to support motion? If not, what techniques or tools are available to help develop the physical hardware more quickly? Currently, I typically build my projects from wood and plastic scraps that I have lying around. What types of materials enable you to prototype more quickly? CLARIFICATION: By motion, I mean something that has to bear stress like a robot arm powered by a servo motor and could handle moving or carrying 1-2 lbs.

    I am currently writing some pretty gnarly C#/C++/Cli code to interface with Telecommunication equipement and GSM Mobile Networks for a couple of the major telecom here and abroad. GSM networks primarily use SS7 Signaling using a protocol called TCAP to send messages back and forth to Signaling Points within the network. The laws of Tcp/ip do not apply here :) I am very interested in hearing from others in this space specifically individuals using the .NET framework most likely using C# / C++. I have not come across any .NET libraries or tools to assist in this sort of development. Most of the software in this industry is "C" / Java based, as a result I have written tons of infrastructure .NET code using C# where possible and C++ / CLI to interface with hardware. Is anyone aware of any .NET language tools for this niche industry?

  • how to debug a query that has valid syntax, executes, but returns no results?

    So I'm writing a fairly involved query with a half dozen joins, a dependent subquery for [greatest-n-per-group] purposes, grouping, etc. It is syntactically valid, but I've clearly made at least one mistake because it returns nothing. In the past I've debugged valid queries that return nothing by removing joins, executing subqueries on their own, removing WHERE conditions, and removing grouping to see what I would get but so far this one has me stumped. Are there better tools or techniques to use for this sort of thing? This particular query is for MySQL if it matters for any platform-specific tools.

  • Updating .class file in a jar throws exception

    I'm trying to port a wikimedia plugin to run on OpenVMS and needed to alter a class. I'm trying to update the .class file in the jar using jar uf jar-file .class-file, however when I do this I get the following: java.util.zip.ZipException: duplicate entry: META-INF/LICENSE.txt at java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream.putNextEntry(ZipOutputStream.java:175) at java.util.jar.JarOutputStream.putNextEntry(JarOutputStream.java:90) at sun.tools.jar.Main.update(Main.java:507) at sun.tools.jar.Main.run(Main.java:184) It turns out there are 2 LICENSE.txt files in the jar and I can't seem to get rid of them. Any ideas on how to just get the new .class file into the jar or how to get rid of the duplicate file?

    From my perspective, we're constructing our own 'flavour' of NAnt/Ivy/CruiseControl.Net in-house and can't help but get the feeling that other dev shops are doing exactly the same work, but then everybody is finding out the same problems and pitfalls with it. I'm not complaining about NAnt, Ivy or CruiseControl at all, as they've been brilliant in helping our team of developers become more sure of the quality of their code, but it just seems strange that these tools are very popular, yet we're all re-inventing the CI-wheel. Is there a pre-made solution for building .Net applications, using the tools mentioned above?

Site administrators will need both common tools (member admin, password changes, etc.) and custom tools that can be readily developed or integrated with 3rd party solutions.   • Errors not being redirected to an Http handler if redirectMode="ResponseRewrite"

    I see similar questions, but it looks like there were due to an unrelated issue. in 3.5, I have a custom error handler that logs errors and redirects users. My web.config is set up as such: <httpHandlers> <add path="error.ashx" type="MySite.Tools.WebErrorLogger, MySite.Tools" verb="*"/> </httpHandlers> <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="error.ashx" redirectMode="ResponseRewrite"> </customErrors> When redirectMode is set to "ResponseRedirect", everything works fine (but Server.GetLastError() being null but that seems to be intended) However, when using ResponseRewrite, my handler is not called and I see ASP.Net default error pages. Any idea on how I could do this? (I unfortunately can't use either an aspx page or do my error handling in global.asax due to other constraints)

  • Tips for measuring the parallelism speed-up in multi-core development.

    I have read many of the good questions and answers around multi-core programming how-tos etc. I am familiar with concurrency, IPC, MPI etc but what I need is advice on how to measure speed-up which will help in making a business case of spending the time to write such code. Please don't answer with "well run it with single-core code then multi-core code and figure out the difference". This is neither a scientific nor a reliable way to measure performance improvement. If you know of tools that will do some of the heavy lifting please mention them. Answers pertaining to methodology will be more fitting but listing tools is ok as well.
