• Google Contacts Data API and PHP

  I'm developing a PHP application to retrieve the list of contacts from a GMail account. I'm looking for a solution which would enable the user of my application to provide the login and password to their Gmail account in my application (as opposed to getting redirected to Google) and then automatically do the retrieval. The retrieval process can be run in PHP or JavaScript (which would then feed the list of contacts back to PHP using Ajax). Is it possible to do that? Which JavaScript API should I use for that? Can someone point me at the right chapter in Google Contacts Data API documentation?

• Can an appdomain be restricted to one directory?

  I am developing a plugin host. The plugins should have as little trust as they need, however I want to have the possibility for a plugin to read and write files. Can the AppDomain where the assembly will be loaded be restricted to have access to only one directory for reading and writing? Other options and ways to go about this are also appreciated like for example easy ways to stream file data from the host to the plugin (reading) and from the plugin to the host (writing). • Best Online C++ Refresher

  It's been a longtime since I've done any C++ (probably about 13 years, since I graduated college). I've developing in various others languages since then. My new gig uses a fair bit of C++. Any recommendations for getting bootstrapped? To clarify -- I don't need an "into to programming" book. E.g., what's a variable, flow control, etc. I understand the concepts of OO having implemented them, etc. I'm looking for the best way to get to the specifics of C++.

  Again i rewrite my question with more details i.e. I am developing a website in Asp.net 2.0 in that i'm tracking the user's some details like their id,no of page hitted and time of hitting etc, in a LogfileDate(the LogfileDate contains whole day summary of all users) saved inside a folder(Folder is inside my project). And at another day when a new logfileDate created i want to mail the previous day Logfile and delete that file after sending. Everything happened but when It is going to delete its shows file is accessed by another process. So I need to refresh that folder after sending mail so that it got free with buffer. I'm not using IIS and i dont want it to use.

• Updates to Wordpress theme template/stylesheet are not reflected when a file is edited

  I am developing a theme in Wordpress. I have an issue where updates to my stylesheet (style.css) are not being reflected in the browser after FTPing a new version of the file to the server. Edits will only show up in the browser after waiting a long time, (15+ minutes). I have tried all the things mentioned here, which have not worked. These include: Making sure no caching plugins are installed in Wordpress Clearing the browser cache Trying from a different browser Making sure I am editing and accessing the correct file Checking webhost configuration panel for a caching plugin Something seems to be caching the stylesheet but I'm not sure how this might be so.

• Which technology(s) / language(s) to write linux web application/service? [closed]

  I am currently playing with some open source home automation software www.domotiga.nl The software is built in Gambas2 (a graphical programming language similar to visual basic). I am considering building something similar or porting domotiga to a server based application/service. The application would need a web front end and i will likely be developing in debian (arm). But i'm not sure if php or python are suitable for server based applications which need to be always running (collecting data etc) rather than just running when accessed. Which technology(s) / language(s) would you suggest i look into? I used to do a lot of Visual Basic, then VB.NET, now C# and have played with php a few years back- but don't really want this to sway the decision too much as i should be able to pickup whatever language if i decide to proceed.

• Ajax twice + facbook login/logout

  Hi, I have a very specific problem. The site I'm developing loads the FB connect button by ajax (it loads the box that includes FBC button). And when user logs in it loads instead of it the box with FB logout link. The problem is that FB requires to call FB.init() at the end of the body (when all the FB stuff is already on the page) and you can't do it twice as the second time is ignored. So what happens is - I do FB.init() inside the login box and FBC button works perfectly, but the logout link doesn't as FB.init() doesn't work there. The only solution I came up with is to place the login and logout buttons outside of ajax boxes and show them in the right places after ajax boxes are loaded. I'm pretty much sure this will work but I don't like the solution (which looks more like hack).

  simple really.. I am have been asked to do a mobile site (straight html + css (+ maybe jquery mobile later on)). The site will need to support the new type smart phone and the old type Nokia/(Symbian OS) with the web browser. Doubts and reservations aside as to anyone without a smart phone would bother visiting this site it still needs to support it. My first question is do older phones support PNG images and transparancey... But this has led me to a much broader question of what are some of the limitations of developing for older phone platforms is there anything that has caught mobile web devs out and had them scratching their head for an afternoon.. what are the limitations of mobile phones?

• How to make schema and code dynamic?

  I want to make my database schema and application code as dynamic as possible to handle "unknown" use cases and changes. Developing in PHP and MySQL. Twice now I have had to change my entire schema including table and column names and this means the developers have to go back to the application code and modify all the SQL queries and table/columns names. So to prevent this I want to if just like we do on pages where we have page content, title bar etc dynamic like a %variable%, can we do it for the schema and maybe even for the php code functions and classes somehow? It takes weeks to re-do all changes like this vs if it is dynamic it can be done in under a day.

  I have a voice application that would be much-improved if there was the ability to use a "trigger word" to start recording audio. I don't need a full speech-text engine, just the ability to reliably/efficiently detect the trigger word. I am wondering if there are any specialized speech engines that support this specific use case, or any libraries/methods to developing such a single-purpose detection engine. Ideally I'd like it to work in noisy environments, but it can be trained for a single user's voice. Pointers to research papers / topics would also be appreciated so I know what to ask for.

• How to add ONLY system tray icon to application?

  I am developing an application that will be running behind the scenes in Windows and would like to put an icon in the system tray for troubleshooting purposes (simple way for users to tell if the app is running). There is no other UI for the application, and the icon does not need to have any functionality as of right now. All of the solutions I have found as of yet involve creating a form. I am wondering if there is a way to simply add a class to my current C# code that allows me to control the icon, rather than doing the whole 'make a form, set it to be invisible....' nonsense that seems to be the popular suggestion on the forums. Something along the lines of the way that UI control is done in say, Swing for Java. I would really appreciate any ideas! (Sorry if this is a n00b question...I haven't used C# before...) • Iphone does not recognize reneweed ad hoc provising profile

  I installed a new version of an app we are developing, and also a new ad hoc provisioning profile (the old one had expired). I removed the app and profile from the phone and from itunes. Added the new profile and app to itunes and synched. All seemed well- the new profile was on the phone and the new app too. But when trying to launch the app, I get an alert: "the application cannot be opened because the provisioning profile has expired". I removed and reinstalled. I rebooted the phone. Nothing helped. Any ideas? Thanks

  HI, I am developing asp.net mvc site with linq-to-sql we are having 1000 cocurrent users and we are having performance problems. I have found that stackovewflow is also build on linq-to-sql? So can anybody know how they improved performance. Without line performance was good each page are loaded in 3 seconds but after migrating to linq as per our client requirement page comes in 8 to 10 seconds which is not acceptable performance.   Hello Mates , I need a help ... an urgent one !!! i tried so hard to figured it out .. but i couldn't .. so I appreciate your help so much .. I'm developing an Air App using flash ... the app loads an external SWF file dynamically through an xml ... the SWF file has a movieclip that has a listener (ON click ) function mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { navigateToURL(new URLRequest(clickURL)); } everything is working fine until i click on this movieclip ... it displays the below message SecurityError: Error #2121: Security sandbox violation: navigateToURL: http://www.mydomain.com/maskot/avatar.swf cannot access YAHOO.COM for example. This may be worked around by calling Security.allowDomain. any help !!! because i really have a deadline ! Thank you so much !

• Pre loaded database on iPhone?

  Hi, I have recently developed an app using core data as the storage db. The app allowed the user to read and write to the db. I am now developing a new app which the user doesnt need to write anything to the db, instead the app just needs to read the data. The data has relationships etc so cannot just use a plist or something similar. My question is should I use core data for such a requirement and if so how would i go about entering the data and then releasing the app. Would I have to code the data entry which would populate the db then remove all this code (as I dont want the database to repopulate every time the user opens the app)?? Is there a way to create a core data model using sql commands as with sqlite ie insert into..... etc? Any ideas/thoughts would be very helpful. Many thanks Jules

  I am developing a Facebook Card Game for my thesis and i am wondering which architecture fits best? I am going to develop the game using Silverlight + ASP.NET. On the one side the game should contain player vs. player card games. On the other there will be also a lot of contant similar to Mafia Wars(or any other game like that) where you just interact with the server (incl. database) I read a lot about ASP.NET MVC, Silverlight MVVM and that stuff. When i swip on Ipad screen it make up an image of the sreen and that image i render into UIImage object after that this image i set into UIImageView object and UIimage object is released. Every time i swipe on the screen and above process is does again and again. But it give me leak in renderImage = [[UIImage alloc] init];. • How can I split the suckerfish Menu into two pieces so that I can put it in two frame?

I would like to enhance it to support cross-frames . It means, the horizontal part of the whole menu (html,css,javascript etc..in demo page) will exist in the upper frame and the rest will be put in the lower frame. Edit: There will be only one menu item in the horizontal part. It will be still ok if I can click that menu_item rather than mouse-hovering to show the lower part of the menu .   I'm developing an iOS Newsstand app. If it is suspended or not running and connected to a WLAN, Newsstand apps can be triggered by a Push remote notification to download the latest issue (in our case around 100MB) in the background. I'm using Urban Airship for the delivery of the Push broadcast. I'm now worrying about many many iOS devices hitting the web server for one big download more or less at the same time, because I expect the majority of the devices will receive the notification in a very short timeframe. Instead of broadcasts to all devices, should I rather send individual notifications to batches of small groups of devices, spreading them out over a longer period of time? And/or would a CDN like Amazon Cloudfront solve that issue easier/anyway?

• Screen orientation change forces data re-entry

  I'm developing a simple app, only a handful of activities and nothing to complicated. The issue I'm having is that in a few of my activities I have EditText widgets, and when the screen is rotated, these widgets loose their values. They still visually, that is, on the handset screen, report their values from before the rotation, but to the code report their default values. An example, I have an activity with an EditText, I enter a number, 15, the calculator starts calculating, displays a result. If at this point I rotate to a different orientation, as expected the activity dies, reloads, shows the new orientation, my value of 15 is still in the EditText, however the calculator (the code) calculates as if it was 0, which is the initial value. I have not tried changing the initial value to see if it is really pulling from the default value, or just setting itself to 0 when I cast it as an int. If I didn't explain this well enough, let me know, I can add source code if I need to. Thanks.

  Hello im developing some backends in ASP.NET 2.0 and i have put all the images in Cache, GZIPED my CSS, JS files and everything to speedup the load of each options. the performance its good and i have no problems with the clients but i want "MORE" fast loads and im looking for some recomendations. Is important to mention that those websites are using only in intranets so im thinking to implement my next projects using IFRAME for content that way (i think) the options will be loading faster because they not have to load the entire site. any help / recomendations? thanks in advance.
