  I developed a small winforms application for myself in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition at my workplace, the Visual Studio is licensed to the firm I work at. If I want to sell that application, what are my license options? EDIT: The issue here is not my relationship with my employer (the code was written after hours, we have an understanding) but my relationship with Microsoft. Ex. if I continue developing in Visual Studio Express can I keep my old code? Is there a way to verify if some assemblies were written using a Visual Studio Professional?

• Approach to data wrapping

  I'm developing in PHP and MySQL. The information about the currently logged in user is stored in many different tables. The information that I need on each page, I preload. However if something is needed from a rarely accessed table - then I do $newdata = $db->Query('SELECT * FROM rare_table WHERE user_id='.$user->id); I would like to simplify the above to a point where I don't have to specify that the query should be limited to this particular user. An ideal function call would be: $newdata = $user->Query('SELECT * FROM rare_table'); Obviously I'd have to parse the SQL and add a WHERE clause. Or add to the already existing clause. Questions: are there tools to do this? How can I develop this? Is this even a good idea?

  I am developing an application that is focuses on on WebView i am loading map from a webpage and calling subsequent java script request on it but i do not know what is happening with Galaxy Tab 7' and my emulator too after running well first time if i visit the application again its just showing blank page. • Online Game programming in Google App Engine: AI

  I am currently in the planning stages of a game for google app engine, but cannot wrap my head around how I am going to handle AI. I intend to have persistant NPCs that will move about the map, but short of writing a program that generates the same XML requests I use to control player actions, than run it on another server I am stuck on how to do it. I have looked at the Task Queue feature, but due to long running processes not being an option on the App engine, I am a little stuck. I intend to run multiple server instances with 200+ persistant NPC entities that I will need to update. Most action is slowly roaming around based on player movements/concentrations, and attacking close range players(you can probably guess the type of game im developing)

• Pre loaded database on iPhone?

  Hi, I have recently developed an app using core data as the storage db. The app allowed the user to read and write to the db. I am now developing a new app which the user doesnt need to write anything to the db, instead the app just needs to read the data. The data has relationships etc so cannot just use a plist or something similar. My question is should I use core data for such a requirement and if so how would i go about entering the data and then releasing the app. Would I have to code the data entry which would populate the db then remove all this code (as I dont want the database to repopulate every time the user opens the app)?? Is there a way to create a core data model using sql commands as with sqlite ie insert into..... etc? Any ideas/thoughts would be very helpful. Many thanks Jules

• How to add ONLY system tray icon to application?

  I am developing an application that will be running behind the scenes in Windows and would like to put an icon in the system tray for troubleshooting purposes (simple way for users to tell if the app is running). There is no other UI for the application, and the icon does not need to have any functionality as of right now. All of the solutions I have found as of yet involve creating a form. I am wondering if there is a way to simply add a class to my current C# code that allows me to control the icon, rather than doing the whole 'make a form, set it to be invisible....' nonsense that seems to be the popular suggestion on the forums. Something along the lines of the way that UI control is done in say, Swing for Java. I would really appreciate any ideas! (Sorry if this is a n00b question...I haven't used C# before...)   I'm developing a PHP application to retrieve the list of contacts from a GMail account. I'm looking for a solution which would enable the user of my application to provide the login and password to their Gmail account in my application (as opposed to getting redirected to Google) and then automatically do the retrieval. The retrieval process can be run in PHP or JavaScript (which would then feed the list of contacts back to PHP using Ajax). Is it possible to do that? Which JavaScript API should I use for that? Can someone point me at the right chapter in Google Contacts Data API documentation?

• "Voice trigger" detection

  I have a voice application that would be much-improved if there was the ability to use a "trigger word" to start recording audio. I don't need a full speech-text engine, just the ability to reliably/efficiently detect the trigger word. I am wondering if there are any specialized speech engines that support this specific use case, or any libraries/methods to developing such a single-purpose detection engine. Ideally I'd like it to work in noisy environments, but it can be trained for a single user's voice. Pointers to research papers / topics would also be appreciated so I know what to ask for.

• How can I split the suckerfish Menu into two pieces so that I can put it in two frame?

  I found a tutorial for developing multi-level drop down menu here.Its demo can be checked at www.kriesi.at/wp-content/extra_data/suckerfish_tutorial/step4.html#. I would like to enhance it to support cross-frames . It means, the horizontal part of the whole menu (html,css,javascript etc..in demo page) will exist in the upper frame and the rest will be put in the lower frame. Edit: There will be only one menu item in the horizontal part. It will be still ok if I can click that menu_item rather than mouse-hovering to show the lower part of the menu .   HI, I am developing asp.net mvc site with linq-to-sql we are having 1000 cocurrent users and we are having performance problems. I have found that stackovewflow is also build on linq-to-sql? So can anybody know how they improved performance. Without line performance was good each page are loaded in 3 seconds but after migrating to linq as per our client requirement page comes in 8 to 10 seconds which is not acceptable performance.   I am developing an Android application and require some basic datetime manipulation. I have a Date object (from Java.util.Date) holding a specific date. I need to add a specific time to it. The time I have is a string in this format: "9:00 PM EST" How would I "add" this time to the previous date? If the Date object currently has: "4/24/10 00:00:00" How would I change it to instead be: "4/24/10 09:00:00 EST" I would prefer to do this without the use of an external library, if possible.

And at another day when a new logfileDate created i want to mail the previous day Logfile and delete that file after sending. Everything happened but when It is going to delete its shows file is accessed by another process. So I need to refresh that folder after sending mail so that it got free with buffer. I'm not using IIS and i dont want it to use.

  I'm developing an iOS Newsstand app. If it is suspended or not running and connected to a WLAN, Newsstand apps can be triggered by a Push remote notification to download the latest issue (in our case around 100MB) in the background. I'm using Urban Airship for the delivery of the Push broadcast. I'm now worrying about many many iOS devices hitting the web server for one big download more or less at the same time, because I expect the majority of the devices will receive the notification in a very short timeframe. Instead of broadcasts to all devices, should I rather send individual notifications to batches of small groups of devices, spreading them out over a longer period of time? And/or would a CDN like Amazon Cloudfront solve that issue easier/anyway?

  I am developing a Facebook Card Game for my thesis and i am wondering which architecture fits best? I am going to develop the game using Silverlight + ASP.NET. On the one side the game should contain player vs. player card games. On the other there will be also a lot of contant similar to Mafia Wars(or any other game like that) where you just interact with the server (incl. database) I read a lot about ASP.NET MVC, Silverlight MVVM and that stuff. But what fits best for a game like that? Also i am not sure if i should go with Silverlight 4 already? I don't want to start the wrong way. I really appreciate your help.

• Loading external Swf - sandbox violation

  Hello Mates , I need a help ... an urgent one !!! i tried so hard to figured it out .. but i couldn't .. so I appreciate your help so much .. I'm developing an Air App using flash ... the app loads an external SWF file dynamically through an xml ... the SWF file has a movieclip that has a listener (ON click ) function mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { navigateToURL(new URLRequest(clickURL)); } everything is working fine until i click on this movieclip ... it displays the below message SecurityError: Error #2121: Security sandbox violation: navigateToURL: http://www.mydomain.com/maskot/avatar.swf cannot access YAHOO.COM for example. This may be worked around by calling Security.allowDomain. any help !!! because i really have a deadline ! Thank you so much !

• Iphone does not recognize reneweed ad hoc provising profile

  I installed a new version of an app we are developing, and also a new ad hoc provisioning profile (the old one had expired). I removed the app and profile from the phone and from itunes. Added the new profile and app to itunes and synched. All seemed well- the new profile was on the phone and the new app too. But when trying to launch the app, I get an alert: "the application cannot be opened because the provisioning profile has expired". I removed and reinstalled. I rebooted the phone. Nothing helped. Any ideas? Thanks

• Which technology(s) / language(s) to write linux web application/service? [closed]

  I am currently playing with some open source home automation software www.domotiga.nl The software is built in Gambas2 (a graphical programming language similar to visual basic). I am considering building something similar or porting domotiga to a server based application/service. The application would need a web front end and i will likely be developing in debian (arm). But i'm not sure if php or python are suitable for server based applications which need to be always running (collecting data etc) rather than just running when accessed. Which technology(s) / language(s) would you suggest i look into? I used to do a lot of Visual Basic, then VB.NET, now C# and have played with php a few years back- but don't really want this to sway the decision too much as i should be able to pickup whatever language if i decide to proceed.

• How to make schema and code dynamic?

  I want to make my database schema and application code as dynamic as possible to handle "unknown" use cases and changes. Developing in PHP and MySQL. Twice now I have had to change my entire schema including table and column names and this means the developers have to go back to the application code and modify all the SQL queries and table/columns names. So to prevent this I want to if just like we do on pages where we have page content, title bar etc dynamic like a %variable%, can we do it for the schema and maybe even for the php code functions and classes somehow? It takes weeks to re-do all changes like this vs if it is dynamic it can be done in under a day.

• Ajax twice + facbook login/logout

  Hi, I have a very specific problem. The site I'm developing loads the FB connect button by ajax (it loads the box that includes FBC button). And when user logs in it loads instead of it the box with FB logout link. The problem is that FB requires to call FB.init() at the end of the body (when all the FB stuff is already on the page) and you can't do it twice as the second time is ignored. So what happens is - I do FB.init() inside the login box and FBC button works perfectly, but the logout link doesn't as FB.init() doesn't work there. The only solution I came up with is to place the login and logout buttons outside of ajax boxes and show them in the right places after ajax boxes are loaded. I'm pretty much sure this will work but I don't like the solution (which looks more like hack).

When i swip on Ipad screen it make up an image of the sreen and that image i render into UIImage object after that this image i set into UIImageView object and UIimage object is released. Every time i swipe on the screen and above process is does again and again. But it give me leak in renderImage = [[UIImage alloc] init];. • Deploying BlackBerry Applications Across Environments

  Has anyone come up with a good solution for deploying BlackBerry applications across different environments? My example is storing URLs and Authentication information in code. In most cases, a developer is going to have a different set of URL's to test against when developing the application vs what the end user is going to hit. The idea is when I go to build for production, I have something swap out the environment settings for the target environment vs manually replacing environment specific code each time. I am currently using eclipse. The only thought I've come up with so far would be to use a resource with encrypted values and have that swap when I run my build. Any ideas?
