• Combining packages from different projects into a single project in eclipse

  Hi, As part of the Android application I am developing in eclipse, I need to combine two packages from different projects into a single project. I tried copying the files in the package of the second project under the src folder of the first folder and copied other files required for second package into the res folder of the first project. But the auto-generated Java files i.e R.java doesn't get updated on copying. I tried right clicking on the project and clicking on Android Tools - Fix Project Properties. But nothing changed. Any pointers on what I am doing wrong much be appreciated.

• C# - Realtime console output redirection

  I'm developing a C# application and I need to start an external console program to perform some tasks (extract files). What I need to do is to redirect the output of the console program. Code like this one does not work, because it raises events only when a new line is writen in the console program, but the one I use "updates" what's shown in the console window, without writting any new lines. How can I raise an event every time the text in the console is updated? Or just get the output of the console program every X seconds? Thanks in advance!

• Returning back to the results after editing

  Hello, I am developing an application which has several CRUD actions... I am using Java and i am forced to use Struts framework. My problem is: I have a search page which returns some results.The user can click at a result and then he goes to another edit-page... He may apply changes or not...What i need is a way to return at the result page again and at the same scroll position.Javascript must be enabled for this project however.. I am wondering which is the best practice to achieve this effect... A solution would be to save the last search URL but i know that this wouldnt work if the user has multiple results. I know how to do it but i am lloking for a good practice!

• Field contains foreign IDs for different tables

  I am developing a php/mysql driven facebook game. I am stuck on an element the table design. When a user completes a task I want to trigger any number of events. I was thinking of something like so: tbl_events *event_id - serogate primary ID *task_id - foreign ID of the task just completed *event_type - what type of event e.g is it a facebook stream publish or a message to the user or does it unlock a new element of the game? *event_param - this is where it gets tricky... the event parameter is a problem for two reasons, 1) it will contain different foreign ids... dependent on the event_type and thus it will not be possible to join to x table. Meaning I would have to call two queries. 2) Most events require a single id or text, however some events require multiple parameters - like the facebook stream publish.

  I am developing a Python module with several source files, each with its own test class derived from unittest right in the source. Consider the directory structure: dirFoo\ test.py dirBar\ __init__.py Foo.py Bar.py To test either Foo.py or Bar.py, I would add this at the end of the Foo.py and Bar.py source files: if __name__ == "__main__": unittest.main() And run Python on either source, i.e. $ python Foo.py ........... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ran 11 tests in 2.314s OK Ideally, I would have "test.py" automagically search dirBar for any unittest derived classes and make one call to "unittest.main()". What's the best way to do this in practice? I tried using Python to call execfile for every *.py file in dirBar, which runs once for the first .py file found & exits the calling test.py, plus then I have to duplicate my code by adding unittest.main() in every source file--which violates DRY principles.

• Interacts with dialog/whiptail on early boot rcX.d stage?

  Hi buddies, I'm developing on Ubuntu based, actually I got one script in-charged on GUI(console) setup. It runs before another scripts (rcX.d) start. Currently, I installed this script on rc2.d and start earlier than other ones. But when run on real machine, I can't input any keystroke on "dialog --inputbox" or whiptail through shell script. Additionally, It runs well on my Virtual Machine (Virtual Box and Vmware), that's so strange! So, does anybody give some help or point me any clues for overcome this ? Thanks

  I am developing a spring mvc based application. I have a simple pojo form object, the problem is that many properties will be taked from drop down lists that are populated from lookup entities, so I return the entity ID to the form object. public NewCarRequestForm { private makeId; // this are selected from a drop down. private modelId; } Should I just send this lookup entity ID to the service layer? or should I validated that this ID is correct (Somebody can send any random ID through the request) before and how? Now there is a problem if I want to validated something based on some property of the lookup entity. Do I perform a database lookup of the entity just to perform the validation? thanks.

• Loading HTML5 video on iPad via onclick event tied to a div

  I'm developing an HTML5 application (a game), that automatically preloads 5 video files. I'm able to do so correctly on Safari for PC, so there are no overlooked problems with file formats, codecs or such. The load fails on an iPad. As an official guide for video on iOS puts it: This means the JavaScript play() and load() methods are also inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action. In other words, a user-initiated Play button works, but an onLoad="play()" event does not. Does this mean, that I have no means to initiate the loading of video after a user initiated action, if that action hasn't been tied to a video element (user clicked on a regular div — I request loading and displaying of a video, compared to the user actually clicking on a video element to load and play that particular element)? • starting a service based on someone's GPL/MIT licensed code

  someone wrote a nice framework for developing html5 3d engine. It's GPL/MIT licensed. Do you think it's a good idea to build upon it, and then repackage it and sell it as a service? For eg the framework lets you build 3d environments. so I build on it, maybe add a few features like characters and music in the environment, and turn it into an online game. Is it a feasible idea? Of course, part of the GPL license says that all source code has to be visible to end users. Assuming the web is a winner take all market based on first mover advantage, why care about hiding the source code? It's the product that's being sold that counts.

  In an application I'm developing, I have the need to handle a socket-timeout differently from a general socket exception. The problem is that many different issues result in a SocketException and I need to know what the cause was. There is no inner exception reported, so the only information I have to work with is the message: "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond" This question has a general and specific part: is it acceptable to write conditional logic based upon the textual representation of an exception? Is there a way to avoid needing exception handling? • What are the disadvantages of targeting the JVM instead of x86?

  I'm developing a new language. My initial target was to compile to native x86 for the Windows platform, but now I am in doubt. I've seen some new languages target the JVM (most notable Scala and Clojure). Ofcourse it's not possible to port every language easily to the JVM; to do so may lead to small changes to the language and it's design. After posing this question, I even doubted more about this decision. I now know some "pro" JVM arguments. The original question was: is targetting the JVM a good idea, when creating a compiler for a new language? • how to handle db concurrency in client-server application in C#?

  I am developing an application in C# WPF which will have Client-Server architecture (Client will do products sales billing). Do i need to handle DB concurrency explicitly in my application (like 3 clients inserting data same time) or MySQl will handle this without any conflict? • Is JPA + EJB to much slow (or heavy) for over Internet transactions?

  Hi, I am developing a stand-alone java client application that connects to a Glassfish v3 application for JPA/EJB facade style transactions. In other words, my client application do not connect directly to the database to CRUD, but it transfers JPA objets using EJB stateless sessions. I have scenarios where this client application will be used in an external network connected with a VPN over Internet with a client connection of 512kbp/DSL, and a simple query takes so much time, I'm seeing the traffic graph and when I merge a entity in the client application I see megabytes of traffic (I couldn't believe how a purchase order entity could weight more than 1 mb). I have LAZY fetch in almost every many-to-many relationship, but I have a lot of many-to-one relationships between entities (but this is the great advantage of JPA!). Could I do something to accelerate the the speed of transactions between JPA/EJB server and the remote java client? Thank you in advance.

• clear cached javascript includes in FireFox

  I'm working on javascript for a site, developing with FireFox, and when I refresh the page, I don't see my changes. The javascript file is in an external file. I reloaded and refreshed the page several times, but the old javascript file was still cached. Finally, I loaded the javascript page in the browser directly, saw the old script, hit 'reload', and saw my changes. How can I clear cached external javascript files? I'll need to know this also when I tell the client that the changes are made, so that they aren't seeing the old cached functionality.

• Using a JSON web service from a Java client application

  I am developing a client-side Java application that has a bit of functionality that requires getting data from some web services that transmit in JSON (some RESTful, some not). No JavaScript, no web browser, just a plain JAR file that will run locally with Swing for the GUI. This is not a new or unique problem; surely there must be some open source libraries out there that will handle the JSON data transmission over HTTP. I've already found some that will parse JSON, but I'm having trouble finding any that will handle the HTTP communication to consume the JSON web service. So far I've found Apache Axis2 apparently which might have at least part of the solution, but I don't see enough documentation for it to know if it will do what I need, or how to use it. Maybe part of the problem is that I don't have experience with web services so I'm not able to know a solution when I see it. I hope some of you can point me in the right direction. Examples would be helpful.

• frequently merge changes between branch and trunk?

  My team and I are using svn branches for the first time. Before, we use to work only from the trunk. Over the past 2 weeks, we've been refactoring and developing new code against our branch. But during that time, another developer has been making bug fixes to code in the trunk and deploying it to the production server. We would like to frequently "update" our branch with changes from the trunk to make sure we get the latest fixes. But the problem is that we're making drastic changes to our branch, and many files have been renamed. I have a feeling every "update" we do on our branch that takes changes from trunk will cause a conflict, unless we some how get subversion to recognise that fileA.html in trunk is really fileB.html in branch. Am I using subversion branches correctly? Am I using the word "update" correctly? Are frequent "updates" in branch advisable?

Is there a way by which I can explicitly terminate a connection from server side such that client does not receive any response header. Currently I have tried many options like closing the response outputStream. But in every case a http 200 OK message is delivered to the client application. I would like to consume the http-request and do not want to return anything to the client. I am using a simple conrtroller servlet and had overridden doGet() and doPost() functions.

• How to change security configutarion in IE8 for Intranet pages, such that Javascript can close a Win

  I am developing a system that uses a little Internet page as a front-end for the whole program. Since I need to use ActiveX (sigh), the page must work on Internet Explorer. However, after some actions have been done the page needs to close itself. Using window.close() on Javascript it works, but before closing it prompts the user if it wants to close the Window. The ideal would be that it closes automatically. Is there any way to make IE8 (changing an option on the browser, not a code-only solution) not to prompt before closing the Window?
