  • Modal View Does Not Appear in Center in Horizontal Orientation

    - by Sheehan Alam
I have a UIPresentationFormSheet (contains a textview) that appears in the center of the screen when I am in vertical orientation. When I dismiss the modal view, it disappears fine. When I am in horizontal orientation my modal view does not appear in the center of the screen. I have to dismiss my keyboard for the modal view to appear in the center. [self presentModalViewController:composeTweetController animated:TRUE]; When I dismiss the modal view in horizontal orientation the app automatically switches to vertical orientation. -(void)dismissComposeTweetView{ [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:TRUE]; } I want the following to happen: Modal view should appear in the center in horizontal orientation Modal view should disappear without switching to vertical orientation

  • Disable the Go button in the Keyboard for a UITextfield in iphone app.

    - by coder net
Hi, My app has a screen where keyboard is always visible. The main element of the screen is a UITextfield. For easy data entering, keyboard is always made visible. When the user finishes entering data and hits Go, the app performs a 4,5 seconds action which is done in the background thread in order to show UIActivityIndicatorView. My problem is that the Go button on the keyboard still shows as enabled since the logic is performed in the background. The user could potentially hit the Go again causing it to run again. I am not able to set editable/userinteraction properties to No because then the keyboard disappears. Is there anyway just to disable the Go button or freeze the keyboard until the background thread returns?

  • Correcting a plist with dictionaries

    - by ingenspor
Plist is copyed to documents directory if it doesn't exist. If it already exists, I want to use the "Name" key from NSDictionary in bundleArray to find the matching NSDictionary in documentsArray. When the match is found, I want to check for changes in the strings and replace them if there is a change. If a match is not found it means this dictionary must be added to documents plist. This is my code: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { [self managePlist]; return YES; } - (void)managePlist { NSError *error; NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *path = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"Objects.plist"]; NSString *bundle = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"Objects" ofType:@"plist"]; NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; if (![fileManager fileExistsAtPath: path]) { [fileManager copyItemAtPath:bundle toPath:path error:&error]; } else { NSArray *bundleArray = [[NSArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:bundle]; NSMutableArray *documentArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path]; BOOL updateDictionary = NO; for(int i=0;i<bundleArray.count;i++) { NSDictionary *bundleDict=[bundleArray objectAtIndex:i]; BOOL matchInDocuments = NO; for(int ii=0;ii<documentArray.count;ii++) { NSMutableDictionary *documentDict = [documentArray objectAtIndex:ii]; NSString *bundleObjectName = [bundleDict valueForKey:@"Name"]; NSString *documentsObjectName = [documentDict valueForKey:@"Name"]; NSRange range = [documentsObjectName rangeOfString:bundleObjectName options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch]; if (range.location != NSNotFound) { matchInDocuments = YES; } if (matchInDocuments) { if ([bundleDict objectForKey:@"District"] != [documentDict objectForKey:@"District"]) { [documentDict setObject:[bundleDict objectForKey:@"District"] forKey:@"District"]; updateDictionary=YES; } } else { [documentArray addObject:bundleDict]; updateDictionary=YES; } } } if(updateDictionary){ [documentArray writeToFile:path atomically:YES]; } } } If I run my app now I get this message: '-[__NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: mutating method sent to immutable object' How can I fix this? When this is fixed, do you think my code will work? If not, I would be happy for some suggestions on how to do this. I have struggled for a while and really need to publish the update with the corrections! Thanks a lot for your help.

  • iPhone - Change entity class (NSManagedObject) to make them initializable

    - by ncohen
Hi everyone, I would like to use my custom NSManagedObject like a normal object (as well as its regular functions). Is it possible to modify the class in order to be able to initialize it like a normal object? [[myManagedObject alloc] init]; Thanks edit: to clarify the question, will it screw everything up if I change the @dynamic with @synthesize in the implementation?

  • WebView with NSShadow slowdown

    - by Rodrigo
I have a webview that shows some animated boxes, but it slows down and lags horribly when I put a drop shadow in the view. Without the shadow, the webview contents animate smoothly. I achieved a similar effect as safari/chrome when you do a elastic scroll with the touchpad. Looks nice! But doesnt run as smooth as in my inspirations. Here is the snippet of the shadow setting: NSShadow *dropShadow = [[NSShadow alloc] init]; [dropShadow setShadowColor:[NSColor blackColor]]; [dropShadow setShadowOffset:NSMakeSize(0, 0)]; [dropShadow setShadowBlurRadius:5.0]; [webview setWantsLayer: YES]; [webview setShadow: dropShadow]; [dropShadow release]; -- My question is: How can I work around this problem?

  • Autorelease and properties

    - by ganuke
I have few questions to ask about the following class #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface SomeObject { NSString *title; } @property (retain) NSString *title; @end implementation SomeObject @synthesize title; -(id)init { if (self=[super init]) { self.title=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"allyouneed"]; } return self; } -(void)testMethod{ self.title=[[NSString alloc] init] ; } -(void)dealloc { self.title=nil; [super dealloc]; } In the .h file do we need to declare the title and sub when we add the property. is it not enough to add the @property (retain) NSString *title; line. 2.Do i need to autorelease both assignment to title in the init and testMethod. if So why? Can some one explain these things to me.

  • iPhone, special characters in JSON Response

    - by eddit
Writing an iphone app, and I'm getting my data from a REST API that returns JSON. My problem is, some of the data has special characters embedded and Im getting errors. Example: MartÌn Petite-RiviËre-Saint-FranÁois Here is my current code: NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:receivedData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSMutableArray *tempResults = [[[jsonString JSONValue] objectForKey:@"getRegionResortsLastUpdatedResponse"] objectForKey:@"return"]; Whenever the data has special characters in it "jsonString" return "(null)", otherwise everything works fine. Is this something I can handle on my end, or does the API need to be modified to output the character codes?

  • Cant access NString after callback in [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest]

    - by John ClearZ
    Hi I am trying to get a cookie from a site which I can do no problem. The problem arises when I try and save the cookie to a NSString in a holder class or anywhere else for that matter and try and access it outside the delegate method where it is first created. - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *)response { int i; NSString* c; NSArray* all = [NSHTTPCookie cookiesWithResponseHeaderFields:[response allHeaderFields] forURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://johncleary.net"]]; //NSLog(@"RESPONSE HEADERS: \n%@", [response allHeaderFields]); for (i=0;i<[all count];i++) { NSHTTPCookie* cc = [all objectAtIndex: i]; c = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@=%@", [cc name], [cc value]]; [Cookie setCookie: c]; NSLog([Cookie cookie]) // Prints the cookie fine. } [receivedData setLength:0]; } I can see and print the cookie when I am in the method but I cant when trying to access it form anywhere else even though it gets stored in the holder class @interface Cookie : NSObject { NSString* cookie; } + (NSString*) cookie; + (void) setCookie: (NSString*) cookieValue; @end int main (void) { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; JCLogin* login; login = [JCLogin new]; [login DoLogin]; NSLog([Cookie cookie]); // Crashes the program [pool drain]; return 0; }

  • Logging in to website with saved username and password

    - by DGund
    One of the functions of an app I am making involves logging the user into our Campus Portal website. For ease of use, the user may enter a username and password into the app once, and it will be saved for all future log-ins. When the user clicks a button, the information will automatically be sent to log in, and the website will be displayed in a UIWebView. Let us say that the username and password are each stored in an NSString. How can I use this data to log in to this website programmatically and display the page it in a UIWebView? I know little about posting and forms, so any help is appreciated. Would something like this Stackoverflow answer help? Here's the shell of my code for this - (IBAction)btnGo:(id)sender { username = usernameField.text; password = passwordField.text; if (saveSwitch.isOn) { //Save data if the user wants AppDelegate *appDelegate = (AppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; usernameSaved = username; passwordSaved = password; [appDelegate.listOfPortalCredentials replaceObjectAtIndex:0 withObject:usernameSaved]; [appDelegate.listOfPortalCredentials replaceObjectAtIndex:1 withObject:passwordSaved]; } //Insert username and password to web form, log in to portal //This is where I need help }

  • iPhone/Obj-C - Archiving object causes lag

    - by Dylan
Hi I have a table view, and when I delete a cell I am removing an item from an NSMutableArray, archiving that array, and removing the cell. However, when I do this, it is causing the delete button to lag after I click it. Is there any way to fix this? // Override to support editing the table view. - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView commitEditingStyle:(UITableViewCellEditingStyle)editingStyle forRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { if (editingStyle == UITableViewCellEditingStyleDelete) { int row = [indexPath row]; [savedGames removeObjectAtIndex:row]; [tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; //this line causing lag [NSKeyedArchiver archiveRootObject:savedGames toFile:[self dataFilePath]]; } } Thanks

  • Cocoa Scripting Bridge and <contents> element

    - by Stephen
So, the application I'm trying to script has a scripting definition file that includes a <contents> element, which is an "implicitly specified container." The question, how do I get at what's inside this element using Scripting Bridge? Or alternatively, how do I send the Apple Event necessary to retrieve it and then transform what I get back into an SBObject? I already tried: [document nameOfKey] document.nameofKey [document contents] document.contents

  • Why am I getting a EXC_BAD_ACCESS in a NSTimer selector?

    - by AngeDeLaMort
I've got quite a weird problem. To make it short, i'll write some pseudo-code: init: create a dictionary and insert n elements. create a "repeat timer" and add it to the currentRunLoop using the timerRefresh selector. timerRefresh: using a list of keys, find the items in the dictionary if the item exists -> call a function So, for an unknown reason, I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS when I do: [item function]; But I traced the address I got from the dictionary items and it's ok. The ref count of the items in the dictionary is still 1. The {release, dealloc} of the items in the dictionary aren't called. Everything seems fine. Also, to make it worst, it works for some items. So, I'm wondering if there is a threading problem? or something else obscure? The callstack is quite simple: #0 0x93e0604b in objc_msgSend_fpret #1 0x00f3e6b0 in ?? #2 0x0001cfca in -[myObject functionm:] at myObject.m:000 #3 0x305355cd in __NSFireTimer #4 0x302454a0 in CFRunLoopRunSpecific #5 0x30244628 in CFRunLoopRunInMode #6 0x32044c31 in GSEventRunModal #7 0x32044cf6 in GSEventRun #8 0x309021ee in UIApplicationMain #9 0x000027e0 in main at main.m:14 So, any suggestion where to look would be appreciated.

  • Command line tool (PDF Workflow) in OSX that detects if key is down

    - by kroko
Hello! I'm writing a OSX PDF Workflow in ObjC and C. A single executable ("UNIX Tool" as named in the Apple reference), that reads in the spooled PDF file, does some parsing. I'd like to give more functionality by enabling a key-down event handling, meaning - when user opens print dialog in an application - and chooses to left-mouse-click on the custom made pdf workflow to run it - depending on if a keyboard key is down (i.e. option key, but "any key down" would be enough for me) when running that workflow - a decision is made in the code. I have read NSEvent and Carbon Event Manager reference and it seems that in this case (a plain unix executable + not run as root) it's not possible. Or is it? Many thanks in advance, Kroko

  • Re-usable Obj-C classes with custom values: The right way

    - by Prairiedogg
I'm trying to reuse a group of Obj-C clases between iPhone applications. The values that differ from app to app have been isolated and I'm trying to figure out the best way to apply these custom values to the classes on an app-to-app basis. Should I hold them in code? // I might have 10 customizable values for each class, that's a long signature! CarController *controller = [[CarController alloc] initWithFontName:@"Vroom" engine:@"Diesel" color:@"Red" number:11]; Should I store them in a big settings.plist? // Wasteful! I sometimes only use 2-3 of 50 settings! AllMyAppSettings *settings = [[AllMyAppSettings alloc] initFromDisk:@"settings.plist"]; MyCustomController *controller = [[MyCustomController alloc] initWithSettings:settings]; [settings release]; Should I have little, optional n_settings.plists for each class? // Sometimes I customize CarControllerSettings *carSettings = [[CarControllerSettings alloc] initFromDisk:@"car_settings.plist"]; CarController *controller = [[CarController alloc] initWithSettings:carSettings]; [carSettings release]; // Sometimes I don't, and CarController falls back to internally stored, reasonable defaults. CarController *controller = [[CarController alloc] initWithSettings:nil]; Or is there an OO solution that I'm not thinking of at all that would be better?
