  • drawRect gets called on UIView subclass but not on UIViewController

    - by HotFudgeSunday
    My code is working so far but I had to create a Class for the UIView. This is a bit inconvenient because I need to interact with the ViewController too. BTW, I did try [self setNeedsDisplay] on the ViewDidLoad of the UIViewController subclass file but it didn't work. Here's the code, which works on UIView Subclass but doesn't get called on a UIViewController one: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { UIColor *currentColor = [UIColor redColor]; CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); someNum = 1; CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, 30, 40); [self addDotImageX:30 andY:40]; CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, currentColor.CGColor); CGContextStrokePath(context); } Any ideas on what to try? BTW, this is a TabBar App. I know those can somehow block the calls to drawRect. The Tabs where created programatically, not through a Nib. Eg: NSMutableArray *listOfViewControllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; UIViewController *vc; vc = [[Education alloc] init]; vc.title = @"Education"; [listOfViewControllers addObject:vc]; vc.tabBarItem.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"info.png"]; [vc release]; I would appreciate any ideas. I've been through the answers on this site related to setNeedsDisplay not calling drawRect and haven't found an answer for my particular case. Thanks.

  • iPhone, special characters in JSON Response

    - by eddit
    Writing an iphone app, and I'm getting my data from a REST API that returns JSON. My problem is, some of the data has special characters embedded and Im getting errors. Example: MartÌn Petite-RiviËre-Saint-FranÁois Here is my current code: NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:receivedData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSMutableArray *tempResults = [[[jsonString JSONValue] objectForKey:@"getRegionResortsLastUpdatedResponse"] objectForKey:@"return"]; Whenever the data has special characters in it "jsonString" return "(null)", otherwise everything works fine. Is this something I can handle on my end, or does the API need to be modified to output the character codes?

  • problem with presentModalViewController

    - by pbcoder
    If my iPad is in Landscape mode and presentModalViewController is called the view automatically turns into portrait mode. Any solutions? UIViewController * start = [[UIViewController alloc]initWithNibName:@"SecondView" bundle:nil]; start.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; start.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; [self presentModalViewController:start animated:YES]; In SecondView I've already added: - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return YES; }

  • Cell Dequeue problem when table inside another table's cell content view

    - by Shailesh Kanzariya
    I am using two table views (Main Table and Sub Table), one table inside other's cell. I am adding Sub Table in Main Table's cell content view. I am also using different Cell Identifier for both table cells. Now, issue is : When - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath is called, very first time cell of Main Table is generated and when I scroll up/down they all are just dequeued, so it is expected and standard behavior and working fine. But, cell of Sub Table is getting created/allocated every time. It is not dequeued as it should be. I guess, its happening because Sub Table is part of Main Table's Cell Content view. But not sure and don't know how to resolve it. Can somebody help me to find the solution?

  • Trouble setting FIrst view controller which will appear on App Startup

    - by Matte.Car
    I'm setting setting FIrst view controller which will appear on my App Startup. It should appear an UIView first time as a tutorial and, from second time, another standard view. In AppDelegate I wrote this: #import "AppDelegate.h" #import "TabBarController.h" #import "TutorialController.h" @implementation AppDelegate TabBarController * viewControllerStandard; // standard view TutorialController * viewControllerFirst; // tutorial view @synthesize window; - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { if ([@"1" isEqualToString:[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:@"Startup"]]) { window.rootViewController = viewControllerStandard; } else { window.rootViewController = viewControllerFirst; } [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } It doesn't return any alert but, launching app, after splashscreen, it appear only a black screen. Without that codes everything works fine. What could be wrong? Thank you!

  • How does Core Data determine if an NSObjects data can be dropped?

    - by Kevin
    In the app I am working on now I was storing about 500 images in Core Data. I have since pulled those images out and store them in the file system now, but in the process I found that the app would crash on the device if I had an array of 500 objects with image data in them. An array with 500 object ids with the image data in those objects worked fine. The 500 objects without the image data also worked fine. I found that I got the best performance with both an array of object ids and image data stored on the filesystem instead of in core data. The conclusion I came to was that if I had an object in an array that told Core Data I was "using" that object and Core Data would hold on to the data. Is this correct?

  • NSUrlconnection problem receiving data from some filehosts

    - by Tammo
    hello again, i am trying to develop an downloadmanager. i can now download files from almost anywhere on linkclick. in the - (BOOL)webView:(UIWebView*)webView shouldStartLoadWithRequest:(NSURLRequest*)request navigationType:(UIWebViewNavigationType)navigationType i check if the url is a url to a binaryfile like a zipfile. than i setup a nsurlconnection NSMutableURLRequest *urlRequest = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData timeoutInterval:20.0]; [urlRequest setValue:@"User-Agent" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/418.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/419.3"]; NSURLConnection *mainConnection = [NSURLConnection connectionWithRequest:urlRequest delegate:self]; if (nil == mainConnection) { NSLog(@"Could not create the NSURLConnection object"); } (void)connection:(NSURLConnection )connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse)response { self.tabBarController.selectedIndex=1; [receivedData setLength:0]; percent = 0; localFilename = [[[url2 absoluteString] lastPathComponent] copy]; NSLog(localFilename); NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0] ; NSString *appFile = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:localFilename]; [[NSFileManager defaultManager] createFileAtPath:appFile contents:nil attributes:nil]; [downloadname setHidden:NO]; [downloadname setText:localFilename]; expectedBytes = [response expectedContentLength]; exp = [response expectedContentLength]; NSLog(@"content-length: %lli Bytes", expectedBytes); file = [[NSFileHandle fileHandleForUpdatingAtPath:appFile] retain]; if (file) { [file seekToEndOfFile]; } } (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { if (file) { [file seekToEndOfFile]; } [file writeData:data]; [receivedData appendData:data]; long long resourceLength = [receivedData length]; float res = [receivedData length]; percent = res/exp; [progress setHidden:NO]; [progress setProgress:percent]; NSLog(@"Remaining: %lli KB", (expectedBytes-resourceLength)/1024); [kbleft setHidden:NO]; [kbleft setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%lli / %lli KB", expectedBytes/1024 ,(resourceLength)/1024]]; } in the connectiondidfinish loading i close the file. all working fine for nearly every hoster except hosters wich have a capture procedure before like filedude.com in the uiwebview i can surf to the downloadpage enter the captcha and get the downloadlink. when i click on it the file will be created in the documentsdir with the filename and the download starts but he dont get any data. every file has 0kb and the NSLog(@"content-length: %lli Bytes", expectedBytes); gives out something like 100-400 byte . can somebody help me solve this problem? kind regards

  • Gradual memory leak and slowdown in loop

    - by Benji XVI
    I have a simple foundation tool that exports every frame of a movie as a .tiff file. Here is the relevant code: NSString* movieLoc = [NSString stringWithCString:argv[1]]; QTMovie *sourceMovie = [QTMovie movieWithFile:movieLoc error:nil]; int i=0; while (QTTimeCompare([sourceMovie currentTime], [sourceMovie duration]) != NSOrderedSame) { // save image of movie to disk NSAutoreleasePool *arp = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSString *filePath = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"/somelocation_%d.tiff", i++]; NSData *currentImageData = [[sourceMovie currentFrameImage] TIFFRepresentation]; [currentImageData writeToFile:filePath atomically:NO]; NSLog(@"%@", filePath); [sourceMovie stepForward]; [arp release]; } [pool drain]; return 0; As you can see, in order to prevent very large memory buildups with the various transparently-autoreleased variables in the loop, we create, and flush, an autoreleasepool with every run through the loop. However, over the course of stepping through a movie, the amount of memory used by the program still gradually increases, and the speed at which frames are processed drops precipitously. (From ~0.5 seconds per frame at the start, to ~2 seconds per frame by the 250th frame.) The only thing I can think can be causing the gradual memory leak is a buildup of the NSAutoreleasePool objects themselves. Am I right in thinking they will only be deallocated when the outer pool is released? If so, is there a better memory management solution here? Creating a pool every run through the loop seems a little hacky. And if not, what is causing the slow memory leak? (It is not NSStrings, and much too slow to be NSImages or NSDatas.) And what could be causing the slowdown?

  • Code Interaction with Quartz Composition

    - by Alberto MQO
    Hi, i have a Quartz Composition with a Cube, and X/Y/Z rotation inputs are published. On Interface Builder i made a QCView and a QCPatchController with the previous Quartz Composition loaded. In QCView the Patch Controller is binded, and the rotation published ports are binded too to three NSSlider, so when i change the value of the NSSlider's then the cube rotates. All this works fine, but i want to change the rotation values of the cube from the App Delegate on XCode. I tried to change the value of the NSSliders with IBoulets pointing to them, but this change doesnt apply to the cube, like it does when i change the Sliders directly with my mouse. What should i instanciate and/or how to access and change this Input_Ports.value throught the CQPatchController? Thank you very much for reading, i really need help!

  • Should I merge .pbxproj files with git using merge=union?

    - by Ortwin Gentz
    I'm wondering whether the merge=union option in .gitattributes makes sense for .pbxproj files. The manpage states for this option: Run 3-way file level merge for text files, but take lines from both versions, instead of leaving conflict markers. This tends to leave the added lines in the resulting file in random order and the user should verify the result. Normally, this should be fine for the 90% case of adding files to the project. Does anybody have experience with this?

  • Execute something on application startup?

    - by Nick Brooks
    I have a class in my application which handles all the controls and all the functions and variables are stored in it. How can I add a function which handles the application startup to it? So basically I need to handle 'applicationDidFinishLaunching' in my class as well as in the application delegate. How do I do that?

  • Custom UITableViewCell trouble with UIAccessibility elements

    - by ojreadmore
    No matter what I try, I can't keep my custom UITableViewCell from acting like it should under the default rules for UIAccessiblity. I don't want this cell to act like an accessibility container (per se), so following this guide I should be able to make all of my subviews accessible, right?! It says to make each element accessible separately and make sure the cell itself is not accessible. - (BOOL)isAccessibilityElement { return NO; } - (NSString *)accessibilityLabel { return nil; } - (NSInteger)accessibilityElementCount { return 0; } - (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewCellStyle)style reuseIdentifier:(NSString *)reuseIdentifier //cells use this reusage stuff { if (self = [super initWithStyle:style reuseIdentifier:reuseIdentifier]) { [self setIsAccessibilityElement:NO]; sub1 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,1,1)]; [sub1 setAccessibilityLanguage:@"es"]; [sub1 setIsAccessibilityElement:YES]; [sub1 setAccessibilityLabel:sub1.text] sub2 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,1,1)]; [sub2 setAccessibilityLanguage:@"es"]; [sub2 setIsAccessibilityElement:YES]; [sub2 setAccessibilityLabel:sub2.text] The voice over system reads the contents of the whole cell all at once, even though I'm trying to stop that behavior. I could say [sub2 setIsAccessibilityElement:NO]; but that would would make this element entirely unreadable. I want to keep it readable, but not have the whole cell be treated like a container (and assumed to be the English language). There does not appear to be a lot of information out there on this, so at the very least I'd like to document it.

  • XCode enum woes

    - by Raconteur
    Hi gang, I thought I had this sorted, but I am still missing something. Very simply, I have a Settings class that hold a DAO (sitting on a plist). I want to have a couple of enums for the settings for convenience and readability, such as GamePlayType and DifficultyLevel. Right now I am defining them in the Settings.h file above the @interface line as such: typedef enum { EASY, NORMAL, HARD } DifficultyLevel; and typedef enum { SET_NUMBER_OF_MOVES, TO_COMPLETION } GamePlayType; If I access them from within the Settings class like: - (int)gridSizeForLOD { switch ([self difficultyLevel]) { case EASY: return GRID_SIZE_EASY; case NORMAL: return GRID_SIZE_NORMAL; case HARD: return GRID_SIZE_HARD; default: return GRID_SIZE_NORMAL; } } everything is fine. But, if I try to access them outside of the Settings class, let's say in my main view controller class, like this: if (([settings gameType] == SET_NUMBER_OF_MOVES) && (numMoves == [settings numMovesForLOD])) { [self showLoseScreen]; } I get errors (like EXC_BAD_ACCESS) or the condition always fails. Am I doing something incorrectly? Also, I should point out that I have this code for the call to gameType (which lives in the Settings class): - (GamePlayType)gameType { return [dao gameType]; } and the DAO implements gameType like this: - (int)gameType { return (settingsContent != nil) ? [[settingsContent objectForKey:@"Game Type"] intValue] : 0; } I know I have the DAO returning an int instead of a GamePlayType, but A) the problem I am describing arose there when I tried to use the "proper" data type, and B) I did not think it would matter since the enum is just a bunch of named ints, right? Any help, greatly appreciated. I really want to understand this thoroughly, and something is eluding me... Cheers, Chris

  • EXC_MEMORY_ACCESS when trying to delete from Core Data ($cash solution)

    - by llloydxmas
    I have an application that downloads an xml file, parses the file, and creates core data objects while doing so. In the parse code I have a function called 'emptydatacontext' that removes all items from Core Data before creating replacements items from the xml data. This method looks like this: -(void) emptyDataContext { NSFetchRequest * allCon = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [allCon setEntity:[NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Condition" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]]; NSError * error = nil; NSArray * conditions = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:allCon error:&error]; DebugLog(@"ERROR: %@",error); DebugLog(@"RETRIEVED: %@", conditions); [allCon release]; for (NSManagedObject * condition in conditions) { [managedObjectContext deleteObject:condition]; } // Update the data model effectivly removing the objects we removed above. //NSError *error; if (![managedObjectContext save:&error]) { DebugLog(@"%@", [error domain]); } } The first time this runs it deletes all objects and functions as it should - creating new objects from the xml file. I created a 'update' button that starts the exact same process of retrieving the file the proceeding with the parse & build. All is well until its time to delete the core data objects. This 'deleteObject' call creates a "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" error each time. This only happens on the second time through. Captured errors return null. If I log the 'conditions' array I get a list of NSManagedObjects on the first run. On the second this log request causes a crash exactly as the deleteObject call does. I have a feeling it is something very simple I'm missing or not doing correctly to cause this behavior. The data works great on my tableviews - its only when trying to update I get the crashes. I have spent days & days on this trying numerous alternative methods. Whats left of my hair is falling out. I'd be willing to ante up some cash for anyone willing to look at my code and see what I'm doing wrong. Just need to get past this hurdle. Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Iphone sdk - How to setup a 'template'

    - by Dave
    I've been working on a Cook Book App and I've been making each page individually which takes a really long time to do, I asked a question similar to this and it was brought to my attention that you can setup a way to automate the design process so all you need to do is input your data. Can someone please explain in as much detail as possible how you setup your xcode files/code to automate this process Thanks

  • UIActionSheet Cancel button keeps crashing my app

    - by user337174
    I am really puzzeled by this one. I have set up two UIActionSheets in my application. They work perfectly fine until you use the cancel button in the UIActionSheets. When i navigate away from the page the UIAactionSheet returns too it crashes my app. Does anyone have any ideas as too why? -(IBAction) phoneButtonClicked:(id)sender { // open a dialog with just an OK button phoneActionSheet = [[UIActionSheet alloc] initWithTitle:nil delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Cancel" destructiveButtonTitle:nil otherButtonTitles:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Phone: %@",phone],nil]; phoneActionSheet.actionSheetStyle = UIActionSheetStyleDefault; [phoneActionSheet showInView:self.view]; // show from our table view (pops up in the middle of the table) [phoneActionSheet release]; } -(void)actionSheet:(UIActionSheet *)actionSheet clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { if (actionSheet == phoneActionSheet) { if(buttonIndex == 0){ NSString *callPhone = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"tel:%@",phone]; NSLog(@"Calling: %@", callPhone); [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:callPhone]]; } } }

  • Cant access NString after callback in [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest]

    - by John ClearZ
    Hi I am trying to get a cookie from a site which I can do no problem. The problem arises when I try and save the cookie to a NSString in a holder class or anywhere else for that matter and try and access it outside the delegate method where it is first created. - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *)response { int i; NSString* c; NSArray* all = [NSHTTPCookie cookiesWithResponseHeaderFields:[response allHeaderFields] forURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://johncleary.net"]]; //NSLog(@"RESPONSE HEADERS: \n%@", [response allHeaderFields]); for (i=0;i<[all count];i++) { NSHTTPCookie* cc = [all objectAtIndex: i]; c = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@=%@", [cc name], [cc value]]; [Cookie setCookie: c]; NSLog([Cookie cookie]) // Prints the cookie fine. } [receivedData setLength:0]; } I can see and print the cookie when I am in the method but I cant when trying to access it form anywhere else even though it gets stored in the holder class @interface Cookie : NSObject { NSString* cookie; } + (NSString*) cookie; + (void) setCookie: (NSString*) cookieValue; @end int main (void) { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; JCLogin* login; login = [JCLogin new]; [login DoLogin]; NSLog([Cookie cookie]); // Crashes the program [pool drain]; return 0; }
