• IValidatableObject vs Single Responsibility

  I like the extnesibility point of MVC, allowing view models to implement IValidatableObject, and add custom validation. I try to keep my Controllers lean, having this code be the only validation logic: if (!ModelState.IsValid) return View(loginViewModel); For example a login view model implements IValidatableObject, gets ILoginValidator object via constructor injection: public interface ILoginValidator { bool UserExists(string email); bool IsLoginValid(string userName, string password); } It seems that Ninject, injecting instances in view models isn't really a common practice, may be even an anti-pattern? Is this a good approach? Is there a better one?

• Test wordpress sites for SQL Injection on siteurl

  I have a client who's wordpress sites have gotten hacked twice by iframe scammers. Each time they've injected iframe code into the content of the sites. This last time, today, they simply changed the siteurl in wp_options to their iframe code. The result was obvious and appeared to simply botch the paths of the scripts that rely on I can't determine if its a password compromise (on FTP or WordPress itself) or a SQL injection to alter siteurl. Since the only thing that was altered is siteurl, I'm thinking perhaps SQL Injection. What are your thoughts? Any way to scan a site for potential SQL injection vulnerabilities? The only active plugins on the site are contact form 7 and google xml sitemaps.

• Doesn't Spring really support Interface injection at all?

  Hi I know that Spring doesn't supports Interface injection and I've read that many a times. But today as I came across an article about IOC by Martin Fowler (link), it seems using ApplicationContextAware in Spring is some what similar to the Interface injection. when ever Spring' context reference is required in our Spring bean, we'll implement ApplicationContextAware and will implement the setApplicationContext(ApplicationContext context) method, and we'll include the bean in the config file. Is not this the same as Interface injection, where where telling the Spring to inject (or), say, pass the reference of the context into this bean? Or I m missing something here? • Does OSB has any database dependency?

  Major functionality of OSB is database independent. Most of the internal data-structures that re required by OSB are stored in-memory.Reporting functionality of OSB requires DB tables be accessible.http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15017/before.htm#BABCJHDJ It should hover be noted that we can still run OSB with out creating any tables on database.In such cases the reporting functionality cannot be used where as other functions in OSB will work just as fine.We also see few errors in the log file indicating the absence of these tables which we can ignore.  If reporting function is required we will have to install few tables. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15017/before.htm#BABBBEHD indicates running RCU recommended. OSB reporting tables are bundled along with SOA schema in RCU. OSB requires two simple tables for reporting functionality and installing complete SOA schema is little far fetched. SOA schema contains lot of tables which OSB doesn't require at all. More over OSB tables are too simple to require a tool like an RCU.Solution to it would be to manually create those tables required for OSB. To make  life easier the definition of tables is available in dbscripts folder under OSB_HOME.eg. D:\Oracle\Middleware\osb\11gPS2\Oracle_OSB1\dbscripts. $OSB_HOME=D:\Oracle\Middleware\osb\11gPS2\Oracle_OSB1If you are not planning to use reporting feature in OSB, then we can also delete the JDBC data sources that comes along with standard OSB domain.WLST script to delete cgDataSources from OSB domain . OSB will work fine with out DB tables and JDBC Datasource.

However, say I want to set-up a new server fast and my Java program depends on GhostScript, if there any software that can automatically check the computer for it (and then maybe the PATH) and add it if is not there?   I am going to face a following issue: I'm writing a program that manages some properties, some of them are general and some are specific. Each property is a pair of key and value, and for example: if it is given a general property and other specific property with exactly the same key and value has been existed before then the general property will swap the specific one in the register. If there are two the same general properties - both will remain in the register. And so on; it is like a net of dependencies. In my case I can handle with it intuitively and foresee all cases, but only because the system is not too vast. What if it would? I have met such problems a few times in many different programs and languages (i.e working with C semaphores) and my question is: How to approach this kind of problem? Is this connected with finite state machine, graph theory or something similar? How to be sure that I have considered the whole system and each possible case? Could you recommend some resources (books, sites) to learn from?

  When I upgraded to 12.04 all the 32bit libraries was removed. When I used Synaptic to upgrade, Synaptic installed all the 32bit libraries. When I later used apt-get to install a ppa, I was told to use autoremove to remove all the 32bit libraries, which I did. After this Synaptic wanted to install the libraries again, but now I marked ia32-libs forinstead. The installation works fine, but I am not able to install Skype as Skype depeneds on ia32-libs. • Do abstractions have to reduce code readability?

  A good developer I work with told me recently about some difficulty he had in implementing a feature in some code we had inherited; he said the problem was that the code was difficult to follow. From that, I looked deeper into the product and realised how difficult it was to see the code path. It used so many interfaces and abstract layers, that trying to understand where things began and ended was quite difficult. It got me thinking about the times I had looked at past projects (before I was so aware of clean code principles) and found it extremely difficult to get around in the project, mainly because my code navigation tools would always land me at an interface. It would take a lot of extra effort to find the concrete implementation or where something was wired up in some plugin type architecture. I know some developers strictly turn down dependency injection containers for this very reason. It confuses the path of the software so much that the difficulty of code navigation is exponentially increased. My question is: when a framework or pattern introduces so much overhead like this, is it worth it? Is it a symptom of a poorly implemented pattern? I guess a developer should look to the bigger picture of what that abstractions brings to the project to help them get through the frustration. Usually though, it's difficult to make them see that big picture. I know I've failed to sell the needs of IOC and DI with TDD. For those developers, use of those tools just cramps code readability far too much.

  Sometimes I would like to declare a property like this: public string Name { get; readonly set; } I am wondering if anyone sees a reason why such a syntax shouldn't exist. I believe that because it is a subset of "get; private set;", it could only make code more robust. My feeling is that such setters would be extremely DI friendly, but of course I'm more interested in hearing your opinions than my own, so what do you think? I am aware of 'public readonly' fields, but those are not interface friendly so I don't even consider them. The ultimate purpose of this new syntax would be to have an automatic property syntax that specifies that the backing private field should be readonly. Basically declaring a property using my hypothetical syntax public string Name { get; readonly set; } would be interpreted by C# as: private readonly string name; public string Name { get { return this.name; } } And the reason I say this would be DI friendly is because when we rely heavily on constructor injection, I believe it is good practice to declare our constructor injected fields as readonly.

• Service layer coupling

  I am working on writing a service layer for an order system in php. It's the typical scenario, you have an Order that can have multiple Line Items. So lets say a request is received to store a line item with pictures and comments. I might receive a json request such as { 'type': 'Bike', 'color': 'Red', 'commentIds': [3193,3194] 'attachmentIds': [123,413] } My idea was to have a Service_LineItem_Bike class that knows how to take the json data and store an entity for a bike. My question is, the Service_LineItem class now needs to fetch comments and file attachments, and store the relationships. Service_LineItem seems like it should interact with a Service_Comment and a Service_FileUpload. Should instances of these two other services be instantiated and passed to the Service_LineItem constructor,or set by getters and setters? Dependency injection seems like the right solution, allowing a service access to a 'service fetching helper' seems wrong, and this should stay at the application level. I am using Doctrine 2 as a ORM, and I can technically write a dql query inside Service_LineItem to fetch the comments and file uploads necessary for the association, but this seems like it would have a tighter coupling, rather then leaving this up to the right service object.

• MVVM and service pattern

  I'm building a WPF application using the MVVM pattern. Right now, my viewmodels calls the service layer to retrieve models (how is not relevant to the viewmodel) and convert them to viewmodels. I'm using constructor injection to pass the service required to the viewmodel. It's easily testable and works well for viewmodels with few dependencies, but as soon as I try to create viewModels for complex models, I have a constructor with a LOT of services injected in it (one to retrieve each dependencies and a list of all available values to bind to an itemsSource for example). I'm wondering how to handle multiple services like that and still have a viewmodel that I can unit test easily. I'm thinking of a few solutions: Creating a services singleton (IServices) containing all the available services as interfaces. Example: Services.Current.XXXService.Retrieve(), Services.Current.YYYService.Retrieve(). That way, I don't have a huge constructor with a ton of services parameters in them. Creating a facade for the services used by the viewModel and passing this object in the ctor of my viewmodel. But then, I'll have to create a facade for each of my complexe viewmodels, and it might be a bit much... What do you think is the "right" way to implement this kind of architecture ?

  my eclipse has been configured for Java and pydev, now i want to configure C/C++ development tools with Eclipse. i dont want to download the whole Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers, for it is not convenient. so i decided to install CDT in my Eclipse.
