• Correct password for ssh key rejected when ssh-d into machine

  When I am logged into my machine directly, I can do all git operations, and when prompted for a password, the password is accepted. When I ssh into the same box and run git operations on the same repos, the password is rejected. Please make sure you have the correct access rights and the repository exists. Using bash does not appear to make a difference (i.e. ssh-agent /bin/bash). This is a recent development, but I can't cite the change that caused it.

• Internet Explorer 10 auto-correct randomly capitalises words

  I use Internet Explorer 10 on my Windows 7 laptop (because the fingerprint browser add-on only works in IE). I have noticed that IE 10 has a built-in spellchecker, which is great. Now, I write about 90 % English and 10 % Swedish on web sites, so it is somewhat unfortunate that it isn't possible to change the spell-checker language 'on-the-fly'. But that's a minor issue. The main problem is that, when I write English comments, the spell-checker (apparently randomly) capitalises some Words. For instance, the 'words' of the previous sentence was changed automatically to 'Words'. Another Word that is Always capitalised is Before. (Yes, the Three Words that are incorrectly capitalised in the previous sentence are due to the auto-correct 'feature', and apparently 'three' is also a problematic word.) Is this really something that happens to every (bilingual) user? Is there any way to fix the issue (preferably without disabling the spell-checker altogether)?

• SSH Access Denied despite correct credentials being used

  Hello, I have a remote CentOS server to which I had SSH access to. Today when I try to log in via SSH I just get Access Denied even though I am using the correct credentials. I have plesk 9 access and so have reset the admin password and tried to SSH using that password but to no avail. I even created a new user with SSH access rights and tried to log in as them but again failed with the same access denied. I have rebooted. Can anyone offer any advice? There is no file manager in plesk other than for the web domains so I can't get at any system files to see what is going on. Any advice appreciated.

Legacy board: Mercury 810e, 133 MHz FSB Processor: Pentium III Tualatin 1.2 GHz Observation: I see an entry in the BIOS for the CPU Frequency from 6.0 to 11.0. Last value is Safe Mode. I don't know what value to choose for my CPU. So I'm running that CPU in "Safe Mode". What is the correct value for this CPU? Is Safe Mode really safe to run this CPU?

• Printer Properties not sending the correct page size to program

  We have a Zebra 2844 Label Printer with 4"x3" labels in it. When we check the page settings in Windows XP, it is set to the correct size. When we go to print out of any program, it prints 4"x11". I have checked the page settings in one of the programs that we are using and it does show correctly the 4"x3" settings but prints at the incorrect 4"x11". I have followed the steps here Paper size: Printer Properties vs Page Setup and here Is there a way to programatically set the printer properties in windows? but have not been able to glean enough information to figure it out. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it!

This is an interesting situation because what they want is a manual so that a future developer can come in without prior domain knowledge and make changes to the frontend or the backend in a timely manner. There are a few questions on my mind for this little project: What is a good manual design creating application? Microsoft Word doesn't quite cut it. What kind of things would you, the developer, need to know in order to make changes to things like forms, reports, tables or other Access objects? Anything else I missed? Any pitfalls?

• Loosely coupled implicit conversion

  Implicit conversion can be really useful when types are semantically equivalent. For example, imagine two libraries that implement a type identically, but in different namespaces. Or just a type that is mostly identical, except for some semantic-sugar here and there. Now you cannot pass one type into a function (in one of those libraries) that was designed to use the other, unless that function is a template. If it's not, you have to somehow convert one type into the other. This should be trivial (or otherwise the types are not so identical after-all!) but calling the conversion explicitly bloats your code with mostly meaningless function-calls. While such conversion functions might actually copy some values around, they essentially do nothing from a high-level "programmers" point-of-view. Implicit conversion constructors and operators could obviously help, but they introduce coupling, so that one of those types has to know about the other. Usually, at least when dealing with libraries, that is not the case, because the presence of one of those types makes the other one redundant. Also, you cannot always change libraries. Now I see two options on how to make implicit conversion work in user-code: The first would be to provide a proxy-type, that implements conversion-operators and conversion-constructors (and assignments) for all the involved types, and always use that. The second requires a minimal change to the libraries, but allows great flexibility: Add a conversion-constructor for each involved type that can be externally optionally enabled. For example, for a type A add a constructor: template <class T> A( const T& src, typename boost::enable_if<conversion_enabled<T,A>>::type* ignore=0 ) { *this = convert(src); } and a template template <class X, class Y> struct conversion_enabled : public boost::mpl::false_ {}; that disables the implicit conversion by default. Then to enable conversion between two types, specialize the template: template <> struct conversion_enabled<OtherA, A> : public boost::mpl::true_ {}; and implement a convert function that can be found through ADL. I would personally prefer to use the second variant, unless there are strong arguments against it. Now to the actual question(s): What's the preferred way to associate types for implicit conversion? Are my suggestions good ideas? Are there any downsides to either approach? Is allowing conversions like that dangerous? Should library implementers in-general supply the second method when it's likely that their type will be replicated in software they are most likely beeing used with (I'm thinking of 3d-rendering middle-ware here, where most of those packages implement a 3D vector).

  I have a desktop background image (a picture) in a half-dozen different resolutions, that I'd like to deploy to a disparate collection of computers with different monitors and video cards and whatnot. Laptops, netbooks, desktops, widescreen, and even a couple of "tall" screens. I have images to cover most of the cases. I would like Windows 7 to correctly pick the correct desktop background image via group policy. Now, the logon screen is already done. The OEMBackground method is rather clever, and lets you copy files of different resolutions to the machine, and the logon app will calculate the aspect ratio of the monitor and match it to a file as closely as possible. Is there any way to have that functionality on the desktop background as well?

  I'm looking for a set of simple rules and redirects for my site. I've tried so many combinations that I'm starting to get confused. I'm not sure how to set this up. Generally, without mod-rewrite, I would use relative paths to link to files: <a href="link.php">Link</a> if it's in the same directory. Now I'd like to use this: <a href="link">Link</a> And so if you go to this page: localhost/mysite/link it will take you to the correct place, which would be: localhost/mysite/link.php But also, many directory levels deep I would like it to work as well: localhost/mysite/group/link2 would go to: localhost/mysite/group/link2.php and: localhost/mysite/group/section/link3 would go to: localhost/mysite/group/section/link3.php But then in all these cases, if someone were to type in this: localhost/mysite/group/section/link3.php in the URL bar, it would show this: localhost/mysite/group/section/link3 Thanks

  I am using Bash to install a customised version of JBoss, and one of the things I would like to do is install the correct version of the Apache Portable Runtime, which is a native binary. This script could be run on both 32 and 64 bit versions of RHEL. What are my options for identifying which version of the APR to install? I think we only have 32bit and x64-based systems here. I would still like to identify i64 systems so that the script can refuse to install on that type of machine. I am aware of using uname -m and grepping /proc/cpuinfo to find out, but was wondering which approach others would recommend?

• Convert old AVI files to a modern format

  Hi, we have a collection of old home videos that were saved in AVI format a long time ago. I want to convert these files to a more modern format because the Totem Movie Player that comes with Ubuntu 10.4 seems to be the only program capable of playing them. The files seem to be encoded with a MJPEG codec, and playing them in VLC or Windows Media Player plays only the sound but there is no video. Avidemux was able to open the files, but the quality of the video is severely degraded: The video skips frames and is interlaced (it's not interlaced when playing it in Totem). Neither ffmpeg nor mencoder seems to be able to read the video stream. mencoder reports that it is using ffmpeg's codec. • Win7 Aero disabled due to mirror drivers following TightVNC use, cannot re-enable

  I recently installed TightVNC, and used it to access my desktop from my phone. When I did so, my desktop reported that Aero had been disabled due to an application being run that didn't support it. I now cannot re-enable Aero, despite having closed the TightVNC server (and indeed having rebooted a number of times since). Windows 7 troubleshooting reports the following: Close programs using mirror drivers To allow Aero effects to be displayed, close any programs that use mirror drivers (a type of display driver), such as Windows Remote Assistance and Windows Live Mesh. The troubleshooting system appears to attempt to automatically fix that, but fails. I can see nothing in the task manager that obviously uses mirror drivers; in particular, I can see nothing that looks like TightVNC in there. Starting and exiting TightVNC makes no difference. Google has turned up nothing that looks useful so far, either, although my Google-fu isn't great and I may just be searching for the wrong things. There's another question that reports the same problem, caused by LogMeIn rather than TightVNC, but the solution listed there doesn't work—TightVNC doesn't install LogMeIn mirror drivers, for obvious reasons.

  I am currently testing out nginx and have set up some virtual hosts by putting configurations for each virtual host in its own file in a folder called sites-enabled. What I would like to do is to be able to enable PHP for all hosted sites on this server (without having to add a PHP location block with fastcgi parameters) for maintainability. This is so that if I need to change any fastcgi values for PHP, I can just change it in 1 location. Is this something that's possible for nginx? If so, how can this be done?

• Enable re-attached mouse/keyboard via ssh?!

  I had Ubuntu 9.10 x64 Desktop installed on a nettop I have (that I normally run headless), and yesterday I decided to take the plunge and update to 10.04. So, I plugged in a screen and usb mouse/keyboard, booted up and set to work. It was 1am, and it was telling me it had 3hrs left to install all the new packages, so I unplugged the screen and usb mouse/keyboard, left the box running, and went to bed. This evening, I plugged it all back in again to check progress. It's asking if I want to remove obsolete packages. I do, but neither the mouse nor keyboard work! I can access the box via SSH like I normally do; is there any way I can re-enable the keyboard from there? I'm reluctant to restart the box (via ssh) mid-way through such a complicated upgrade.   Yes, I know that there are a lot of other questions that seem exactly like this out there. I think I must've looked all of them. Twice. In desparation, I'm adding another in case my specific configuration is the issue. Bear with me. First, the question: What do I need to do to get gzip compression to work? I have an Ubuntu 12.04 server installed running nginx 1.1.19. Nginx was installed with the following packages: nginx nginx-common nginx-full The http block of my nginx.conf looks like this: http { include /etc/nginx/mime.types; access_log /var/log/nginx/access.log; sendfile on; keepalive_timeout 65; tcp_nodelay on; gzip on; gzip_disable "msie6"; include /etc/nginx/conf.d/*.conf; include /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/*; } Both PageSpeed and YSlow are reporting that I need to enable compression. I can see that the request headers indicate Accept-Encoding:gzip,deflate,sdch, but the response headers do not have the corollary Content-Encoding header. I've tried various other config values (gzip_vary on, gzip_http_version 1.0, etc.), but no joy. As far as I know, I can only assume that nginx was compiled with compression support, but if there's any way to verify that, I'd love to know. If anyone sees anything I'm missing or can suggest further debugging, please let me know. I'm no sysadmin and I'm new to Nginx so I've exhausted everything I can think of or have read. Thanks.

  I'm running a PowerDNS 3.1 on a Debian Wheezy Beta 4 system. The zone data is accessed through a PostgreSQL database, the server answers to both IPv4 and IPv6 queries. If the DNS-Server knows the A record for one of the name servers referenced by NS records on a zone, it automatically return these A records as additional information to the response on an NS query for that zone. Now even if it knows the AAAA record for one of the name servers of the NS records, it currently does never return an AAAA record as additional information. How can I enable this?   I have searched all over the web but cannot find a complete answer to this: How to enable Bitlocker on a laptop with TPM, and store a file with the Bitlocker recovery key and TPM password by USING THE manage-bde command line tool. The file should be the same as when created in the Bitlocker manager UI. I DO NOT want to save to AD. The same question was asked here but was not answered correctly. The goal is to write a script to be used with an endpoint manager. I have tried the following: manage-bde -on C: Works fine, but does not create or save a key. manage-bde -on C: -rk C:\myfolder\ and manage-bde -on C: -RecoveryKey C:\myfolder\ -rp The output from the last two methods state that a key has been saved to c:\myfolder and so on, but that is not the case. It also says that I have to: Save the password in a secure location Insert a USB flash drive with an external key file into the computer. Restart and run hardware test type "manage-bde -status" to check if the hardware test succeeded After a restart, I get an error saying that Bitlocker could not be enabled because the bitlocker startup key or recovery kpassword cannot be found on the USB device.... C: was not encrypted. Why am I asked to insert a USB?? I simply want to encrypt the hard drive and save the recovery information to a file automatically. Is that too much to ask? Help please!

First (and good!) attempt: MostFrequentItem(L).Count / L.Count (e.g. 4/5 or 80% likelihood) But consider the cases: John, John, Jon, Jonny John, John, Jon, Jon I want to consider the likelihood of the correct item being John to be higher in the first list! • Double value not correct on Device

  int min = Int32.Parse(minutebox.Text); double kj = Convert.ToDouble(a.kj); double res = ((kj * op.koerpergewicht) * min); textbox.Text = res.ToString(); Shows me the correct number (with its punctuation - i. e. 2.33) on my English WP7-Emulator. However it doesn't work on my Device, which is set to German. The value is correct but the point, comma or whatever in that double value isn't shown correct. 43.22 on Emulator - 4322 on Device Why is that?

• Windows7 - “The specified network password is not correct.” when the password is in fact correct.

  I have a samba server setup for some time now. It is a Hardware NAS - which unfortunately does not provide access to the Samba logs. (the exact model of the NAS is called Addonics NAS Adapter ) I also have a Windows Vista and a Windows XP machine - from both I am able to map \\192.168.0.20\Smd with no errors ( net use l: \\192.168.0.20\Smd works, after asking for my username and password). I also bought a brand new computer, with Windows 7, and when I try to execute the same exact net use command on it - using the exact same username/password pair, I get a "The specified network password is not correct." message. I also tried mapping from the Windows explorer menu, and got the same error. I synchronized the clocks of the two machines, tried again... and yet the same error persists. So what is really surprising here is that mapping works from WindowXP and Windows Vista machines, but fails from a Windows7 machine using the exact same command and username/password - Anyone has any idea of what could be causing this or how to solve the problem?
