    What algorithm should I use for encrypting and embedding a password for an application? It obviously is not bullet proof, but it should be good enough to thwart someone scanning the database with a hex editor, or make it hard for someone who has the skills to use a debugger to trace the code to work out, either by scanning for the encrypted password, or using a debugger to run through the decryption code.     I was attempting to install an exe that requires a serial number before the install, which the vendor has not provided to us yet. This got my wheels turning about whether there is any information that can be gained from viewing an exe using a hex editor/VI/etc? Using VI to view an exe, I can see some sections of plain text, but it is difficult to determine what it refers to without any context around it. Is it possible to determine any information by reading an exe? Thanks

    In c++ 0x10 is the way to represent a hex value. if I leave off the 0x then it's dec. Is there a way to define a binary? Not that I can't derive 0x0003 is 11, but it would be cool if I could use 0b0011. It would just make the code a little more obvious.

    Is there a quick way to convert a float value to a byte wise (hex) representation in a QByteArray? Have done similar with memcpy() before using arrays, but this doesn't seem to work too well with QByteArray. For example: memcpy(&byteArrayData,&floatData,sizeof(float)); Can go the other way just fine using: float *value= (float *)byteArrayData.data(); Am I just implementing this wrong or is there a better way to do it using Qt?   • How can I match a match a null byte (0x00) in the Visual Studio binary editor with a find using a re

    Open a file in the Visual Studio binary editor that contains a null byte (0x00), then use the Quick Find feature (Ctrl +F) to find null bytes. I would have thought I could use a regular expression such as \x00 to match null bytes but it doesn't work. Searching for any other hex value using this method works fine. Is this a VS bug, 'feature', or am I just missing something? Is there a work around?

    I use apache common lang to unescape a block of html text which contains &nbsp;, I want to filter out blocks that contains only whitespaces. But I can't test the   as a whitespace. It's not in the normal whitespace list(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitespace_character), and I try to print its Hex form by calling Character.getNumericValue which return -1. &nbsp should be a whitespace,isn't? But How can I test it?

    My form has a group box which contains two overlapping rectangles. The form's other controls are two sets of four numeric up down controls to set the rectangles' colors. (nudF1,2,3 and 4 set the rectangle that's in front, and nudB1,2,3 and 4 set the rectangle that's behind.) Everything works fine, except that the rectangles do not display the colors set in the numeric up downs when the form first loads. The numeric up down controls' ChangeValue events all call the ShowColors() method. The form's Load event calls the csColorsForm_Load() method.     I am reading a file byte-by-byte. Say for example i have this byte: 0x41 (0100 0001) represented in hex. Now, I want the first three bits of this byte, i.e (010). I can use bitwise logic to extract the first three bits, but my question is will the first three bits be independent of endianess of the machine.(i.e they can't be 001)? Thanks,
