  • Cannot open any applications on windows server 2008 R2 Standard edition

    I have a server running on Windows server 2008 R2. It is recently added as a member of a domain. I am not able to start any applications in thew server. When I tried to open Event viewer it errored out saying "The page file is to small to complete the action". I am experiencing same problem when I tried to open Sql server Management studio, task scheduler or any other application. The windows server serves as a production database server, but our applications are not experiencing any problems. Can someone please help?

  • Adding features to an SQL Server 2008 standard with SP1

    I have MS SQL Server 2008 with SP1 installed. I want to add the Full text feature to the installation. Do I need to run the SP1 update again after I add this feature? If I do try to run it (SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369-x64-ENU) it fails with this error: "There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer". Should I uninstall SP1 and re-install? Doesnt make much sense.

I have the following in the bash_profile: export DISPLAY=:0.0 export ORACLE_BASE=$HOME umask 022 # must match `sysctl kern.maxprocperuid` ulimit -Hu 512 ulimit -Su 512 # must match `sysctl kern.maxfilesperproc` ulimit -Hn 10240 ulimit -Sn 10240 Upon applying the bash_profile settings . ~/.bash_profile i get the following error: -bash: ulimit: max user processes: cannot be modify limit: Invalid argument This then results in $ sqlplus / as sysdba not functioning correctly with a Segmentation fault: 11 The output of $ ulimit -a core file size (blocks, -c) 0 data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited file size (blocks, -f) unlimited max locked memory (kbytes, -l) unlimited max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 10240 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 1 stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) 512 virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited If any one knows how I can apply these ulimit settings to the oracle user I have created to allow me to install sqlplus and therefore create a db, that would be great.

  • new SBS 2011 Standard problems

    Brand new SBS 2011 install. I went to remove the DHCP server role. It went into a "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer." Been there for hours. Finally, decided to power off and restart. After boot up, the same window and message appear and it just sits there spinning. "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer." I'd love to get this installed before the end of the day but it doesn't look like that's possible. Any ideas on how to get passed this?

  • SSH through standard Belkin router to Asus Tomato router

    I've set up SSH on the Tomato firmware on an Asus N10, via port 22 with key authentication. I've tested the keys by connecting with putty directly to the router when connected to its network. That works OK. But this router is behind a Belkin (F5D7632-4) router which also acts as modem and when I try to connect through with the (dynamic) public IP it times out. I'm guessing it's something to do with the NAT? My putty settings are taken from various online tutorials, but it's set up for port 22, with the correct key as mentioned. The Belkin router has port forwarding to the Asus (192.168.2.3) for port 22 TCP and UDP set up. It's now tough to see what to do in order to connect to the Asus router with an external IP - if it's even possible. Ideally I would have liked to have only needed to use the Asus router, but as it doesn't act as a modem, I need to connect it to the Belkin to use Tomato's features. Perhaps there's a solution here too? Network: Internet -> Belkin modem/router -> Asus router (Tomato SSH) -> Devices

  • Migrating SBS 2003 to 2012 standard

    My company is currently trying to migrate a Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012. We know the general procedure, but we want to make sure we aren't going to mess anything up tremendously. Here's the steps we were planning on taking: 1. Uninstall exchange 2. Remove legacy GPO's 3. Demote the domain controller 4. Promote the new server to the primary domain controller. We have no mail servers to worry about. My question is, will the above method work or will we need to make a complete new domain? Thanks!

  • Excel - graphing mean and standard deviation

    Hi all, I have measurements for multiple devices, and have their mean and sd values. I would like to produce a chart that would show these values, and I think the best would be if I could have something that looks like a bar chart(-ish) - the device names in x axis, values in y axis, and for each device to have a 'floating' bar that would represent values (mean - sd :: mean + sd), and some marker in the middle to show the actual mean value. is it doable? or would you suggest some other chart? I used to use Asterlink for routing calls, but they folded and sent my number to OneBox, but they're ridiculously expensive by comparison. I'm looking for a cheap solution for this one simple task. Forward toll free calls to a skype-in number. The definition of cheap is as cheap or cheaper than Asterlink was. I paid something like $2 a month, and then the termination/call rate, which was a fraction of a sent for termination, and only whole cents after some serious time on the call. A $20 preload lasted me months at a time. I don't want to be upsold too, I want a simple web based management screen (CDR/stats are fun!), and obviously, it needs to be reliable. What vendors out there are you a fan of that solves this need?

Thus, it is not handled with usual http://username:[email protected] and any attempt to access the internet from this setting falls into the login form. How could I automatically login to the proxy?     Is there still demand for developers who crate software without GUI's in the industry? Are jobs still in demand? I only ask because I write a lot of software for myself in C. I mainly use FreeBSD without a GUI. My software is for data mining, automation and marketing purposes most of the time as this is the field I work in. I find that a GUI is not needed and I feel comfortable working within a console. I've never worked for a company as a programmer, but in the industry do you have dedicated programmers who work exclusively on the GUI's and other who write the logic?

  • Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 CD 1 cannot boot: freeze at No Emulation

    Hi everyone. I've been interested in the Windows Server line of OSes, so since I apply for DreamSpark, I thought I'd go download it and try it. I just so happened to have an old desktop that I was using awhile ago for Windows XP, so I imaged the drive in preparation for it to be overwritten with the new OS. (This system has an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard, an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ processor, and 1GB of RAM.) I tried burning the first disk image on my newer desktop computer, running Windows XP, although the CD burner consistently failed at a particular track area from cd to cd, so it seemed like the burner was toast there. Fortunately, I had a laptop, so I transferred the images over to that, then burned the first disc there. First time around went great, and the burning program reported no errors. I then took the CD over to the computer that I was intending to install Server onto, set the BIOS to boot from the CD drive, then I booted it up. Like normal, after the POST, it printed "Boot from ATAPI CD-Rom: No Emulation", which I was used to seeing with bootable cds. I waited for the "Press any key to continue..." message that I had become so familiar with in windows discs, although I saw none. The computer sat there for about 5 seconds with the cd spinning, then it spun down like it was done reading it. Nothing else happened. No response from the keyboard. I tried again, same result. I then downloaded IMGBurn, and I put the burned cd into the laptop that burned it originally. I also downloaded a fresh image from the dreamspark site. I ran a verify session, and everything checked out. I later tried getting various DOS startup discs, then I tried booting the winnt binary, which supposedly initiates the installation process. Either the shells reported that not enough memory was available (since they would be running in low memory mode), or FreeDOS in particular would report Illegal instructions right away. Is the image corrupt at dreamspark, or am I doing something wrong?

    How can I allow access to the foo.html files in the .com/song/private/ subfolder for: a logged-in Wordpress user; or any referral domains (including subfolders) I add; or any URL on our own domain from the com/song/private folder; For all others, the user should be redirected to the corresponding public version of the Post, which is the same html filename and structured .com/song/foo.html. (The private versions uses a different template with different custom fields for each Post.) RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !^.*wordpress_logged_in_.*$ N.B. I have added code to my root .htaccess allowing me to insert additional .htaccess files in other subfolders as needed.   • Proper upgrade path for Windows 7 to Windows 8 when the directory setup is non-standard

    I have both a HDD and a SSD in my computer and after installing Windows I moved things around a little to ensure that the OS is on the SSD but my user profile resides on the SSD (with a few exceptions). I used junction points heavily for that. Windows and most applications are fine with that and it works well. Now I wonder whether I can in-place upgrade this to Windows 8 while retaining that exact setup or whether there is anything I can do to ease the upgrade process.

    How does one indicate that one has finished entering test in stdin? For example, let's say that I wish to encrypt 'blue' using MD5 (I know MD5 is unsecure, but just for this example). I tried user$ blue | md5 which I was led to understand is how one pipes input to stdin, but it doesn't work right. But if I just enter user$ md5 I can enter the word 'blue'. But how do I indicate to md5 that I'm finished entering text?

  • ESXI with non standard hardware HDD issues

    I have 3 very underutilized servers that I am condensing to one of those shuttle PC's with VMWare ESXi The HDD seems to be the bottle neck right now (the light is almost always pure solid) right now I have a single 1TB Seagate 7200.11 connected by SATA. VMWare ESXi cannot detect it when running in AHCI mode, but does when running in IDE mode. I have read that IDE mode can give a 5% performance hit which might give me enough breathing room. However, I am open to setting up an external eSATA or some sort of raid to give me more than just the 5%. I am just weary of sinking some money into a bit of hardware without knowledge of whether it will work. Does anyone know of resources or procedures of how to get this working.
