• Where can I find a good, tab-less privacy filter for my monitor?

  Hi, I have an ASUS laptop with a 14" monitor (12" by 7" to be more specific), and I've been looking for a decent privacy filter that I can use with for, yet I couldn't find any. The problem with the filters I've found is that they all use those ugly "tabs" that you have to stick on the sides of your monitor in order to slip the filter in. I'm looking for ones that are like HP privacy filter, where parts of it goes under the frame of the monitor to hold it in place. Too bad HP doesn't sell filters that fit my screen. So, any idea where I can get a good privacy filter? Your help is so much appreciated

• When load balancing, must all copies of static web page be exactly the same?

  I am used to get answers for everything on the web, but not this time... Yesterday I enable Amazon DNS weight functionally to load balance 7 websites between two different IP addresses (split 50%-50%). Both servers run IIS 8.5, sites runs well on both sides. Today I found out that Google WebMasterTools is reporting fails error with file robots.txt, all close to 50% of access try errors. The robots.txt file is ok and accessible (even via Google testing URL page) on both servers. Lets say current version of static web pages are on the first computer and the updated version of the same web pages are on the second computer. Can it be the problem? When load balancing, can static web pages be slightly different from one host server to the other? Thank you for your help

• How do I upgrade from ubuntu 9.10 to 12.10 on my Acer Aspire 3000

  I had my Acer Aspire 3000 as a dual boot XP/ubuntu 9.10 a couple years ago. I recently blew the dust of it and wanted to upgrade to 7/Ubuntu 12.10 so I began by formatting the Ubuntu side of the partition and apparently damaged the mbr as I could only get black screen with the error message: GRUB loading. error: no such partition grub rescue I then slaved the hdd to my win7 desktop and formatted the entire drive, both sides of the partition then reinstalled it in the Acer and tried to install win7. Upon starting the Acer I got the same error message: GRUB loading. error: no such partition grub rescue I then tried to reinstall Ubuntu 9.10 as I have an Ubuntu produced installation cd. Same result. Next day I received a new battery I had ordered for the Acer. I plugged it and the power supply in and hit the power button just to see if I at least could charge the battery but to my surprise Ubuntu 9.10 began to install, so I let it and it did. Now the hard drive shows 58 gb and 2.5gb partitions neither of which is formatted NTFS for/by windows. I am guessing that the GRUB/mbr was repaired somehow by the Ubuntu reinstallation. My question, should you choose to accept it; How can I get to my goal of dual boot win7/Ubuntu 12.10. I am a beginner and don't know much about linux or the terminology. • Working with Git on multiple machines

  This may sound a bit strange, but I'm wondering about a good way to work in Git from multiple machines networked together in some way. It looks to me like I have two options, and I can see benefits on both sides: Use git itself for sharing, each machine has its own repo and you have to fetch between them. You can work on either machine even if the other is offline. This by itself is pretty big I think. Use one repo that is shared over the network between machines. No need to do git pulls every time you switch machines, since your code is always up to date. Never worry that you forgot to push code from your other non-hosting machine, which is now out of reach, since you were working off a fileshare on this machine. My intuition says that everyone generally goes with the first option. But the downside I see is that you might not always be able to access code from your other machines, and I certainly don't want to push all my WIP branches to github at the end of every day. I also don't want to have to leave my computers on all the time so I can fetch from them directly. Lastly a minor point is that all the git commands to keep multiple branches up to date can get tedious. Is there a third handle on this situation? Maybe some third party tools are available that help make this process easier? If you deal with this situation regularly, what do you suggest?

• How to adjust a single side of rectangular selection made with Marquee Tool?

  I am struggling to make a selection made of different layers. For example, a button with text and shadow (each in its own layer). I would like to copy it to a image file but it is really hard to select the shadow with a pixel precision. I do not know how to perform such task properly so I use Marquee Tool. However, it is hard to get all 4 sides right from the first attempt. What's worse, I could not find a method to adjust a single side of a selection made by Marquee Tool. Anyone may help what I am doing wrong?

  Possible Duplicate: How to copy and move mysql database Dump all databases with SSH access I'm setting up a new dev machine, and I have the old one sitting right next to me. I'd like to do an exact copy of all MySQL structures and data from the old machine to the new. Nothing fancy needs to happen (it's a dev machine). No replication. I don't care about "downtimes" etc. Is there a super simple way to do this? For example, I have SSH on the old server, can I just use Nautilus, do a connect to server, and then transfer a folder over, replacing another folder with it and be done? It's the same version of MySQL on both sides. Same version of Ubuntu. Same in most respects.

• Approach to Authenticate Clients to TCP Server

  I'm writing a Server/Client application where clients will connect to the server. What I want to do, is make sure that the client connecting to the server is actually using my protocol and I can "trust" the data being sent from the client to the server. What I thought about doing is creating a sort of hash on the client's machine that follows a particular algorithm. What I did in a previous version was took their IP address, the client version, and a few other attributes of the client and sent it as a calculated hash to the server, who then took their IP, and the version of the protocol the client claimed to be using, and calculated that number to see if they matched. This works ok until you get clients that connect from within a router environment where their internal IP is different from their external IP. My fix for this was to pass the client's internal IP used to calculate this hash with the authentication protocol. My fear is this approach is not secure enough. Since I'm passing the data used to create the "auth hash". Here's an example of what I'm talking about: Client IP: 192.168.1.10, Version: 2.4.5.2 hash = 2*4*5*1 * (1+9+2) * (1+6+8) * (1) * (1+0) Client Connects to Server client sends: auth hash ip version Server calculates that info, and accepts or denies the hash. Before I go and come up with another algorithm to prove a client can provide data a server (or use this existing algorithm), I was wondering if there are any existing, proven, and secure systems out there for generating a hash that both sides can generate with general knowledge. The server won't know about the client until the very first connection is established. The protocol's intent is to manage a network of clients who will be contributing data to the server periodically. New clients will be added simply by connecting the client to the server and "registering" with the server. So a client connects to the server for the first time, and registers their info (mac address or some other kind of unique computer identifier), then when they connect again, the server will recognize that client as a previous person and associate them with their data in the database.

• Rectangular Raycasting?

  If you've ever played The Swapper, you'll have a good idea of what I'm asking about. I need to check for, and isolate, areas of a rectangle that may intersect with either a circle or another rectangle. These selected areas will receive special properties, and the areas will be non-static, since the intersecting shapes themselves will also be dynamic. My first thought was to use raycasting detection, though I've only seen that in use with circles, or even ellipses. I'm curious if there's a method of using raycasting with a more rectangular approach, or if there's a totally different method already in use to accomplish this task. I would like something more exact than checking in large chunks, and since I'm using SDL2 with a logical renderer size of 1920x1080, checking if each pixel is intersecting is out of the question, as it would slow things down past a playable speed. I already have a multi-shape collision function-template in place, and I could use that, though it only checks if sides or corners are intersecting; it does not compute the overlapping area, or even find the circle's secant line, though I can't imagine it would be overly complex to implement. TL;DR: I need to find and isolate areas of a rectangle that may intersect with a circle or another rectangle without checking every single pixel on-screen.

  Solution: To move a unit forward: forward = Quaternion(0,0,0,1) rotation.normalize() # ocassionally ... pos += ((rotation * forward) * rotation.conjugated()).xyz().normalized() * speed I think the trouble stemmed from how the Euclid math library was doing Quaternion*Vector3 multiplication, although I can't see it. I have a vec3 position, a quaternion for rotation and a speed. I compute the player position like this: rot *= Quaternion().rotate_euler(0.,roll_speed,pitch_speed) rot.normalize() pos += rot.conjugated() * Vector3(0.,0.,-speed) However, printing the pos to console, I can see that I only ever seem to travel on the x-axis. When I draw the scene using the rot quaternion to rotate my camera, it shows a proper orientation. What am I doing wrong? Here's an example: You start off with rotation being an identity quaternion: w=1,x=0,y=0,z=0 You move forward; the code correctly decrements the Z You then pitch right over to face the other way; if you spin only 175deg it'll go in right direction; you have to spin past 180deg. It doesn't matter which direction you spin in, up or down, though Your quaternion can then be something like: w=0.1,x=0.1,y=0,z=0 And moving forward, you actually move backward?! (I am using the euclid Python module, but its the same as every other conjulate) The code can be tried online at http://williame.github.com/ludum_dare_24_evolution/ The only key that adjusts the speed is W and S. The arrow keys only adjust the pitch/roll. At first you can fly ok, but after a bit of weaving around you end up getting sucked towards one of the sides. • Scale an image with unscalable parts

  Brief description of problem: imagine having some vector picture(s) and text annotations on the sides outside of the picture(s). Now the task is to scale the whole composition while preserving the aspect ratio in order to fit some view-port. The tricky part is that the text is not scalable only the picture(s). The distance between text and the image is still relative to the whole image, but the text size is always a constant. Example: let's assume that our total composition is two times larger than a view-port. Then we can just scale it by 1/2. But because the text parts are a fixed font size, they will become larger than we expect and won't fit in the view-port. One option I can think of is an iterative process where we repeatedly scale our composition until the delta between it and the view-port satisfies some precision. But this algorithm is quite costly as it involves working with the graphics and the image may be composed of a lot of components which will lead to a lot of matrix computations. What's more, this solution seems to be hard to debug, extend, etc. Are there any other approaches to solving this scaling problem?

  I am looking into some weird issues with active directory and group policy. This domain has been upgraded from windows NT and has a few different administrators over the years. I am looking through the Default Domain group policy and Default Domain Controller group policy. In the security areas and I will use the log on locally area as an example, it shows SIDes that begin with asterisks and are quite long they look sort of like the following *S-1-5-21-787626... Normally, when I see something like this I would think that the User account was no longer there and this was never cleaned up. Am I wrong in my assumption? Thanks in advance

• Transfer using linux ssh and maintaining permissions

  I need to transfer files across ssh to another server. The file structures are identical on both sides. I have used scp -r but that does not retain the orginal file/dir permissions. rsync does the job of keeping the permissions in tact but does not delete the files on the destination side if I want to overwrite them because of changes. I know rsync will write the changes when the source files are newer but I need it to just copy everything reguardless of the date (ie replace destination directory with the one I am moving) without having to shell into the destination first and manually delete the dir. I heard tar can do this but I can not seem to get it to work without errors. The syntax is tar -cf - /directory/directory | ssh host.name tar -xf - C /destination_directory Any help would be appreciated.

• Add to extra div to the side of the content

  Hi. I've read some post for adding extra divs to the both sides of the main content and act like a sidebars. But I want to add 2 extra div for adding some graphics and the right will be to the right of the actual sidebar. I took a screenshot for explain my self better. I've added to extra div before the pagewrap and working with css I locate the divs to left and to the right but there is a problem, if some has a resolution smaller then me the divs start moving messing up the loyout. I want that they stay near the content and the sidebar for all the resolution. I've tryed working with css with position and % but with no results. Ok so, the cyan rectangle would be the extra divs, and the gray graphics the contents of these. I don't care if the users has smaller resolutions, the graphics can go out the screen, but the "roots" must be fixed to the side of the main content ;) Hope I explained well. • Positioned element adding to total div height [migrated]

  I have a 800 x 600 rotatable image with forward and back buttons repositioned to the sides. The height of the div is suppose to be 600px, but the actual height of the div was pushed to 690, including the height of the button image. And the div was blocking a row of clickable menu on top. So I made the div height to 518px and moved top -75px to get the real dimension I want. But I feel dirty doing this... Is there a correct way to do this? Or is this workaround more or less correct? • Simple CSS Scale-Nine Layout

  After all these years, I still haven't learned CSS layout, so bear with me. I'm trying to create a container with rounded corners that I generated in Photoshop. The background of the container is white, so I have eight images: top-left-corner, top, top-right-corner, right, bottom-right-corner, bottom, bottom-left-corner, and left. The edges have a drop shadow around them so yes, I do need 8 sides. How would I lay this out in CSS? I tried and failed miserably to do it with a table + CSS. How would I do it using divs?

• SSRS 2005 Matrix and border styles when exporting to XLS

  The Matrix in SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services 2005) seems to have issues with certain the border styles when exporting to XLS (but not PDF or web view; maybe other formats, not sure?). For example: Create a matrix and set the Matrix border style to Black Solid 1px, but all 4 of the cells to have a border style of Black None 1px. When viewed via the ASP.NET control, it looks correct. But after export to XLS, it creates borders around all of the header cells (column and row headers, and the top left cell), and even the right most data column. But all the cells in the middle of the report correctly have no border set. Update: If the Matrix borders are set to None, then the borders on the cells don't show up in XLS. So, how do you set an outer border around the Matrix, but not have it apply the 'all sides' border to every cell that touches the edge of the Matrix when exported to Excel?

• Win CE 6.0 client using WCF Services

  We have a Win CE 6.0 device that is required to consume services that will be provided using WCF. We are attempting to reduce bandwidth usage as much as possible and with a simple test we have found that using UDP instead of HTTP saved significant data usage. I understand there are limitations regarding WCF on .NET Compact Framework 3.5 devices and was curious what people thought would be the appropriate way forward. Would it make sense to develop a custom UDP binding, and would that work for both sides? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

• How to control docking order in C# WinForms

  As the title states, I'm looking for a way to control the order in which the items dock to the top of my control. I've played with the windows form designer, and i cant seem to find what the RightClick->Order->SendToFront is doing, because thats exactly what I want to happen. As far as I can get to happen, as I add my contents to my control, the newest contents is always at the top, and I'd like for the Newer contents to be on the bottom, and the oldest contents to be at the top. Summery: Is there an easy way in WinForms (C#), to control the order in which things dock to the sides of controls?

• Finding the centeroid of a polygon?

  I have tried: for each vertex, add to total, divide by number of verities to get center. I'v also tried: Find the topmost, bottommost - get midpoint... find leftmost, rightmost, find midpoint. Both of these did not return the perfect center because I'm relying on the center to scale a polygon. I want to scale my polygons so I may put a border around them. What is the best way to find the centroid of a polygon given that the polygon may be concave, convex and have many many sides of various lengths. Thanks

• Data structure for Settlers of Catan map?

  Hello all- A while back someone asked me if I knew of a nice way to encode the information for the game Settlers of Catan. This would require storing a hexagonal grid in a way where each hex can have data associated with it. More importantly, though, I would need some way of efficiently looking up vertices and edges on the sides of these hexagons, since that's where all the action is. My question is this: is there a good, simple data structure for storing a hexagonal grid while allowing for fast lookup of hexagons, edges between hexagons, and vertices at the intersections of hexagons? I know that general structures like a winged-edge or quad-edge could do this, but that seems like massive overkill. Thanks!

• Is there a way for std::map to "edit" values like a predicate for the key?

  I am wondering if it is possible to create something like a predicate for a std::map for all of its values so I don't have to edit the values before I insert them into the map. What I would like is something like this: mymap["username"] = " Marlon "; // notice the space on both sides of my name assert(mymap["username"] == "Marlon"); // no more whitespace The context is I am creating a std::map for a .ini file and I would like it to automatically remove leading/trailing whitespace from the values when I want to retrieve them. I've already created a predicate to ignore casing and whitespace from the key so I want to know if it is possible to do the same for the value.

• Force chart labels to remain inside frame

  RS2008 - pie chart I have 'outside' labels with lines pointing to the segment (although strangely this only appears to work in pdf output) However (see pic below) the label is appearing outside the scope of the chart area How can I force it to remain inside? (MinimumRelativePieSize is set to 70) (pic below missing due to not being able to find an image host that isn't blocked by corp firewall) Picture a pie chart of 25 slices, with radial lines that project through the sides. The line from each slice then becomes horizontal, before disappearing outside. (above actually fits tune of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds")

• Darkening UIView while flipping over using UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight

  I'm using a standard animation block to flip over from one view to another, like this: [UIView beginAnimations:@"FlipAnimation" context:self]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight forView:self.view cache:NO]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:NO]; [containerView exchangeSubviewAtIndex:1 withSubviewAtIndex:0]; [UIView commitAnimations]; During the animation's course, the "from" view darkens as it begins to flip over. Since I'm using nearly identical views on both sides which don't cover the whole view (it's meant to represent a physical card being flipped over), this looks absolutely horrible. Using [UIColor clearColor] as the backgroundColor property for every associated UIView didn't help one bit as transparent areas seem to get darkened as well. Any ideas on how I could get rid of this darkening effect?
