  • IE7 Image float bug.

    - by wilwaldon
http://wilwaldon.com/ie7bug/test1.php Notice the middle column, the images are supposed to float left, they do in every browser but IE7. I've never encountered this problem before and have no idea what's going on with it. Any ideas that would point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  • signed software :: installer -- system software and package installer tool (Apple *.pkg)

    - by fyodor78
Does anybody know a few details about signed software and /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app? I didn't find more at Wikipedia (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Installer_%28Mac_OS_X%29) and the UNIX-Manual (man 8 installer). I have here a valid signature from iLife 11 Installer.app (http://i.imgur.com/Y3raY.jpg). Does this mean I can be 100% sure that nothing is modified? It means I can trust this PKG because signed by Apple? Or did I get something wrong?

  • How to estimate the contribution of an individual to a software project?

    - by Amit Kumar
I work on a software project and would like to estimate the percentage out of the total contribution that I have put in the development of the software. Is there some tool doing this? Such a tool can be useful for appraisals or negotiations, for example. After all, we work for money (yes, not only money, put the point remains). I think there is enough hand-waving for the most important things. The estimation is very subjective (at least to me now) but I do not know of any tool that provides even a subjective estimate. I know of Sloccount that spells out the total effort using the lines of code but not on per-developer basis. My idea of an ideal tool for this purpose would: measure the complexity of the code (more complex is more effort, but more effort is not necessarily more contribution) measure the decomposibility/flexibility of the software (more decomposable is better) how much library code is used -- using library code speeds up the development process, increases the associated risk and requires the developer to know from before or learn about the library. be intelligent enough to differentiate between "who wrote the code", "who copied the code" and "who indented the code". It is difficult to differentiate between the complexity in the implementation and the intrinsic complexity of the problem. Perhaps a comparison can be made with an equivalent open source counterpart if there is, or for each submodule separately. If there is no such tool, is there no merit in having such a tool? Or do you believe in "I do work, I do not measure"? It takes time after all. Perhaps the project manager should do this estimation continuously, say, weekly. Are there any standards? Yes, standardization is difficult because every project has a different goal, but difficult does not mean it is not useful.

  • Software RAID 10 on Linux

    - by vpetersson
For a long time, I've been thinking about switching to RAID 10 on a few servers. Now that Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is live, it's time for an upgrade. The servers I'm using are HP Proliant ML115 (very good value). It has four internal 3.5" slots. I'm currently using one drive for the system and a RAID5 array (software) for the remaining three disks. The problem is that this creates a single-point-of-failure on the boot drive. Hence I'd like to switch to a RAID10 array, as it would give me both better I/O performance and more reliability. The problem is only that good controller cards that supports RAID10 (such as 3Ware) cost almost as much as the server itself. Moreover software-RAID10 does not seem to work very well with Grub. What is your advice? Should I just keep running RAID5? Have anyone been able to successfully install a software RAID10 without boot issues?

  • XHTML Column Padding Bug

    - by Axel Myers
Try setting the padding of <td> to more than 1px, you can't. You can only specify 0 or 1px padding for this td. But why ? It's same in both transitional and strict document types. http://www.pro-turk.net/xhtml_col.html

  • IE 6 bug? width: 987

    - by William
    I'm having a very weird issue in IE6. If I set a div container do the width of 987px it adds a spacing between the container and an absolute positioned element inside. Any other width works fine, it's just 987. Is there something I'm not seeing? Code to reproduce: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title>IE6 Issue</title> <style type="text/css"> body { background-color: #000; } #c1 { width: 987px; background-color: #fff; } #c2 { border: #f00 1px solid; zoom: 1; position: relative; } #tl, #tr { background-color: #000; font-size: 0; line-height: 0; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 4px; height: 6px; } #tr { left: auto; right: 0; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="c1"><div id="c2"><div id="tl"></div><div id="tr"></div>a</div> </div> </body> This is crazy.

  • AS2 Server Software Costs

    - by CandyCo
We're currently using Cleo LexiCom as our server software for receiving EDI transmissions via the AS2 protocol. We have 7 trading partners per year, and this runs us about $800/year for support from Cleo. We need to expand from 7 trading partners to 10 or so, and Cleo charges roughly $600 per new host, plus an expanded yearly support fee. My question(s) are: Does anyone know of a cheaper developer of AS2 server software, and perhaps one that doesn't charge per new host? Does anyone have any clue why we are being charged an upfront fee for new hosts, and if this is a standard practice for AS2 software providers? It seems really odd that we are required to pay upfront costs for this. I could completely understand an increase in the yearly support, however.

  • IE6 Bug - Div within Anchor tag: inline images not links

    - by thorn100
I'm trying to get everything in the anchor tag to be a clickable link. Unfortunately, in IE6 (which is the only browser I'm concerned with currently), the only thing that isn't a clickable link are the inline images. I know that it's not valid html to put a div inside of an anchor but it's not my markup and I've been asked to avoid changing it. Any suggestions to altering the CSS to enable the images as clickable links? If changing the markup is the only solution... any suggestions there? My initial thought was to set the image as a background of it's parent (.ph-item-featured-img), although I'm unclear if that will solve the problem. Thanks! <div class="tab-panel-init clear ui-tabs-panel ui-widget-content ui-corner-bottom" id="ph-flashlights"> <a href="#" class="last ph-item-featured clear"> <div class="ph-item-featured-img"> <img src="#"> &nbsp; </div> <strong> PRODUCT CODE </strong> <p> PRODUCT CODE Heavy Duty Aluminum Led Flashlight </p> <span>Learn more &gt;</span> </a> <a href="#" class="last ph-item-featured clear"> <div class="ph-item-featured-img"> <img src="#"> &nbsp; </div> <strong> PRODUCT CODE </strong> <p> PRODUCT CODE Heavy Duty Aluminum Led Flashlight </p> <span>Learn more &gt;</span> </a> </div>

  • Internal bug tracking tickets - Redmine, Trac, or JIRA

    - by Tai Squared
I've been looking at setting up Redmine, Trac, or JIRA to track issues. I want to be able to have my development team create internal tickets that are never seen by clients, while clients can create/edit tickets that are seen by the internal team. From the Trac documentation, you can set permissions to create or view tickets, but it doesn't seem to allow for viewing only certain tickets. It may be possible with Trac Fine Grained Permissions, but doesn't appear so. The Redmine documentation mentions: Define your own roles and set their permissions in a click but doesn't appear to have the level of granularity. From the JIRA documentation: At the moment JIRA is only able to support security at a project level or issue level. Currently there is no field level security available. According to this question, Redmine doesn't support internal tickets, so you would have to use multiple projects. I don't want a situation where I would have to create multiple projects - one internal, one external and have the external tickets brought into the internal repository. It seems as this would lead to unnecessary overhead and inevitably, the projects wouldn't be in sync. Is there any way with any of these products (possibly through a plug-in if not in the core product itself) to specify these permissions, or simplify having two projects with different users and permissions that must still share information?

  • Tool needed for remote software deployment to Windows PC's over internet

    - by user56527
Hi Can anyone recommend a commercial software package that enables automated rollouts of a bespoke software package across the internet? We are looking at approximately 1000 remote PC's that our organisation owns, geographically scattered and with varying bandwidths available from a central site. The PC's are not manned, they are used as server machines. The tool needs to have some scripting facilities too. The tool needs to be able to push software to the remote site in an automated way. We also need it to be able to reboot the remote machine too. Any ideas anyone? thanks.

  • Good translation (manually) software

    - by S.Hoekstra
I'm looking for a good translation software. i do not mean something that does all the translation automatically for me. But rather something that aids me in translating large pieces of text, since it has to be a perfect translation i can't leave it to computers alone. Something like http://translate.google.com/toolkit but with more options/functions would be great. Preferably freeware ofcourse (But paid is not a problem). At the moment i use the Google toolkit since it's adequate for now, but i really need something more advanced. But looking for such software on google etc. is really hard because of the confusion with translation services and things like babelfish. Do you know any software like this? and maybe want to share your thoughts/experiences.

  • Need Help With Simple Counting Bug in iPhone SDK

    - by seanny94
So I'm basically making an app that adds a count to a number and then displays it each time you tap the button. However, the first tap issued doesn't take any action but adds one (just as planned) on the second tap. I've searched to the ends of the earth looking for the solution with no luck, so I'll see what you guys can make of this. :) #import "MainView.h" @implementation MainView int count = 0; -(void)awakeFromNib { counter.text = @"0"; } - (IBAction)addUnit { if(count >= 999) return; NSString *numValue = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%d", count++]; counter.text = numValue; [numValue release]; } - (IBAction)subtractUnit { if(count <= 0) return; NSString *numValue = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%d", count--]; counter.text = numValue; [numValue release]; } @end

  • Database designing for a bug tracking system in SQL

    - by Yasser
I am an ASP.NET developer and I really dont do such of database stuff. But for my open source project on Codeplex I am required to setup a database schema for the project. So reading from here and there I have managed to do the following. As being new to database schema designing, I wanted some one else who has a better idea on this topic to help me identify any issues with this design. Most of the relationships are self explanatory I think, but still I will jot each one down. The two keys between UserProfile and Issues are for relationships between UserId and IssueCreatedBy and IssueClosedBy Thanks

  • software to emulate a blackboard over internet

    - by Abhijith Madhav
I need to tutor my brother on a particular topic. We live in different geographical areas. We use g-talk to do the same. We do not have web-cam's to enable video chat. The tutoring will involve a lot of off-the-cuff illustrations. I am hence searching for a suitable software which will emulate a blackboard over an internet connection. I need the software to enable sharing of a common canvas on which I can draw, write and point to. Say a Microsoft paint canvas on internet. Could you point out a suitable software? Google is not of being help at the moment as I suspect that I am not specifying my search criteria properly.

  • software creating top view maps

    - by Pennf0lio
Hi, Please suggest a good software that lets you create top view maps like . I know photoshop and illustrator. But It would make my life easier if there are software that already does this. If I would do it in photoshop, I would have to worry more about textures and object. I would so worry about the size, It should be scalable and would look good in print and screen. I more likely to recreate those object in photoshop. Please suggest a good software or approach to do this. Thanks!

  • IE7 div floating bug

    - by Michael Frey
I have the following <div id="border" style="width:100%; border:8px solid #FFF"> <div id="menu" style="width:250px; float:left;" > Some menu </div> <div id="content" style="padding-left:270px; width:520px;" > Main page content </div> </div> This gives me a left aligned menu and the content to the right of it, all surrounded by a border. On all browsers including IE8 it displays correctly. But on IE7 the content only starts below the menu, and leaves a big open space to the right of the menu. I have searched all kind of solutions and tried all kinds of combinations of right, left, none for float. clearing left right both. It always displays different on the browsers. Any help is appreciated. Michael

  • dual/multi-boot computers and software licensing

    - by Matt
Suppose you have a computer with two or more operating systems, and a certain piece of software whose license terms allows it to be installed on one computer, and it does a daily check with a remote server to verify that your serial is only used on the original install computer. You install this software on each of your OSes, but since its a different OS the remote server would have to determine that it is not on the same computer, and so would disable your license. So my question, when a license refers to a single computer, does a situation like this usually count as a single computer, or do the multiple OSes sort of make it multiple computers? How do you think a software vendor (specifically thinking AV companies that do this sort of serial check) would handle this situation?

  • CD/DVD cataloging software?

    - by NoCanDo
I'm looking for freeware, or preferably open source CD/DVD cataloging applications. Right now I'm testing http://www.gentibus.com/us/Download.htm, anyone got any other suggestions? I'd like the software to be actively maintained and not released and left behind. I'm looking for software which allows me to catalog, sort, search my DVDs/CDs into databases. Like I've 1 group of 10 dvds only with Fonts etc. I want to read the content into a Database called "Fonts'". Another group of 5 DVD's with Stockimages, and I want to read all 5 DVDs into the Database "Stock Images". Then I want this software to be able to open Database "Stock Images", I want to be able to browse DVD 1 - 5 and to see DVD 1 - 5's contents without having the DVD's in the optical drive.

  • How important is ticket/bug format?

    - by Fedyashev Nikita
I've heard many Flame wars about ticket's format: how important is it how it has to be structured what parts has it contain Sometimes, that looks like people want to force other team members to adopt his format, even if it is very similar: steps to reproduce what I see what I have to see explanation Or something like this. Usually they don't offer to change add/delete some section from the ticket, but more like change one's section name, or position. What do you think about it? How to find the best solution(if exists...) and common sense?

  • How can I prevent users from installing software?

    - by Cypher
Our organization is a bit different than most. During certain times of the year, we grow to thousands of employees, and during off-times, less than a hundred. Over the course of a few years, many thousands of people have come and gone in our offices, and left their legacy behind in the form of all sorts of unwanted, unapproved, (and sometimes unlicensed) software installs on our desktops. We are currently installing redundant domain controllers and upgrading current servers, all running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, and will eventually be able to run a pure 2008 DC network. With that in mind, what are our options in being able to lock down users, such that they cannot install unauthorized software on systems without the assistance (or authorization) of the IT group? We need to support approximately 400 desktops, so automation is key. I've taken note of the Software Restrictions we can implement via Group Policy, but that implies that we already know what users will be installing and attempting to run... not quite so elegant. Any ideas?

  • Layout Bug in IE (div relative)

    - by Florian
Hi, I have a problem with IE (all versions). I have a header div with a relative position and inside this another div with absolute position and right alignment. <div id="header" style="position: relative; width: 1000px; height: 60px;"> content http://stadtwerke-bitburg.de/fileadmin/overflow_prob_IE.png Now when I open the pulldown menu in FF/Safari/Opera everything is all right. Whereas in IE everything which is taller than 60px disappears behind my header div. Is there a workaround for this problem with CSS or do I have to write javascript to get this fixed? thx TC

  • C++ struct containing unsigned char and int bug

    - by powerfear
Ok i have a struct in my C++ program that is like this: struct thestruct { unsigned char var1; unsigned char var2; unsigned char var3[2]; unsigned char var4; unsigned char var5[8]; int var6; unsigned char var7[4]; }; When i use this struct, 3 random bytes get added before the "var6", if i delete "var5" it's still before "var6" so i know it's always before the "var6". But if i remove the "var6" then the 3 extra bytes are gone. If i only use a struct with a int in it, there is no extra bytes. So there seem to be a conflict between the unsigned char and the int, how can i fix that?
