  • How do you traverse and store XML in Blackberry Java app?

    - by Greg
    I'm having a problem accessing the contents of an XML document. My goal is this: Take an XML source and parse it into a fair equivalent of an associative array, then store it as a persistable object. the xml is pretty simple: <root> <element> <category_id>1</category_id> <name>Cars</name> </element> <element> <category_id>2</category_id> <name>Boats</name> </element> </root> Basic java class below. I'm pretty much just calling save(xml) after http response above. Yes, the xml is properly formatted. import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Hashtable; import org.w3c.dom.Document; import org.w3c.dom.Node; import org.w3c.dom.NodeList; import java.util.Vector; import net.rim.device.api.system.PersistentObject; import net.rim.device.api.system.PersistentStore; import net.rim.device.api.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder; import net.rim.device.api.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory; public class database{ private static PersistentObject storeVenue; static final long key = 0x2ba5f8081f7ef332L; public Hashtable hashtable; public Vector venue_list; String _node,_element; public database() { storeVenue = PersistentStore.getPersistentObject(key); } public void save(Document xml) { venue_list = new Vector(); storeVenue.setContents(venue_list); Hashtable categories = new Hashtable(); try{ DocumentBuilderFactory docBuilderFactory = DocumentBuilderFactory. newInstance(); DocumentBuilder docBuilder = docBuilderFactory.newDocumentBuilder(); docBuilder.isValidating(); xml.getDocumentElement ().normalize (); NodeList list=xml.getElementsByTagName("*"); _node=new String(); _element = new String(); for (int i=0;i<list.getLength();i++){ Node value=list.item(i).getChildNodes().item(0); _node=list.item(i).getNodeName(); _element=value.getNodeValue(); categories.put(_element, _node); } } catch (Exception e){ System.out.println(e.toString()); } venue_list.addElement(categories); storeVenue.commit(); } The code above is the work in progress, and is most likely heavily flawed. However, I have been at this for days now. I can never seem to get all child nodes, or the name / value pair. When I print out the vector as a string, I usually end up with results like this: [{ = root, = element}] and that's it. No "category_id", no "name" Ideally, I would end up with something like [{1 = cars, 2 = boats}] Any help is appreciated. Thanks

  • Mobile App Data Syncronization

    - by Matt Rogish
    Let's say I have a mobile app that uses HTML5 SQLite DB (and/or the HTML5 key-value store). Assets (media files, PDFs, etc.) are stored locally on the mobile device. Luckily enough, the mobile device is a read-only copy of the "centralized" storage, so the mobile device won't have to propagate changes upstream. However, as the server changes assets (creates new ones, modifies existing, deletes old ones) I need to propagate those changes back to the mobile app. Assume that server changes are grouped into changesets (version number n) that contain some information (added element XYZ, deleted id = 45, etc.) and that the mobile device has limited CPU/bandwidth, so most of the processing has to take place on the server. I can think of a couple of methods to do this. All have trade-offs and at this point, I'm unsure which is the right course of action... Method 1: For change set n, store the "diff" of the current n and previous n-1. When a client with version y asks if there have been any changes, send the change sets from version y up to the current version. e.g. added item 334, contents: xxx. Deleted picture 44. Deleted PDF 11. Changed 33. added picture 99. Characteristics: Diffs take up space, although in theory would be kept small. However, all diffs must be kept around indefinitely (should a v1 app have not been updated for a year, must apply v2..v100). High latency devices (mobile apps) will incur a penalty to send lots of small files (assume cannot be zipped or tarr'd up into one file) Very few server CPU resources required, as all it does is send the client a list of files "Dumb" - if I change an item in change set 3, and change it to something else in 4, the client is going to perform both actions, even though #3 is rendered moot by #4. Or, if an asset is added in #4 and removed in #5 - the client will download a file just to delete it later. Method 2: Very similar to method 1 except on the server, do some sort of a diff between the change sets represented by the app version and server version. Package that up and send that single change set to the client. Characteristics: Client-efficient: The client only has to process one file, duplicate or irrelevant changes are stripped out. Server CPU/space intensive. The change sets must be diff'd and then written out to a file that is then sent to the client. Makes diff server scalability an issue. Possibly ways to cache the results and re-use them, but in the wild there's likely to be a lot of different versions so the diff re-use has a limit Diff algorithm is complicated. The change sets must be structured in such a way that an efficient and effective diff can be performed. Method 3: Instead of keeping diffs, write out the entire versioned asset collection to a mobile-database import file. When client requests an update, send the entire database to client and have them update their assets appropriately. Characteristics: Conceptually simple -- easy to develop and deploy Very inefficient as the client database is restored every update. If only one new thing was added, the whole database is refreshed. Server space and CPU efficient. Only the latest version DB needs kept around and the server just throws the file to the client. Others?? Thoughts? Thanks!!

  • Why my button can trigger the UI to scroll and my TimerTask inside the activity can't?

    - by Spidey
    Long Story Short: a method of my activity updates and scrolls the ListView through an ArrayAdapter like it should, but a method of an internal TimerTask for polling messages (which are displayed in the ListView) updates the ListView, but don't scroll it. Why? Long Story: I have a chat activity with this layout: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="#fff" > <ListView android:id="@+id/messageList" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:stackFromBottom="true" android:transcriptMode="alwaysScroll" android:layout_weight="1" android:fadeScrollbars="true" /> <LinearLayout android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:gravity="center" > <EditText android:id="@+id/message" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="1" /> <Button android:id="@+id/button_send" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Send" android:onClick="sendMessage" /> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> The internal listView (with id messageList) is populated by an ArrayAdapter which inflates the XML below and replaces strings in it. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:clickable="false" android:background="#fff" android:paddingLeft="2dp" android:paddingRight="2dp" > <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/date" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="16sp" android:textColor="#00F" android:typeface="monospace" android:text="2010-10-12 12:12:03" android:gravity="left" /> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/sender" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="16sp" android:textColor="#f84" android:text="spidey" android:gravity="right" android:textStyle="bold" /> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/body" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="14sp" android:padding="1dp" android:gravity="left" android:layout_below="@id/date" android:text="Mensagem muito legal 123 quatro cinco seis." android:textColor="#000" /> </RelativeLayout> The problem is: in the main layout, I have a EditText for the chat message, and a Button to send the message. I have declared the adapter in the activity scope: public class ChatManager extends Activity{ private EditText et; private ListView lv; private Timestamp lastDate = null; private long campaignId; private ChatAdapter ca; private List<ChatMessage> vetMsg = new ArrayList<ChatMessage>(); private Timer chatPollingTimer; private static final int CHAT_POLLING_PERIOD = 10000; ... } So, inside sendMessage(View v), the notifyDataSetChanged() scrolls the ListView acordingly, so I can see the latest chat messages automatically: public void sendMessage(View v) { String msg = et.getText().toString(); if(msg.length() == 0){ return; } et.setText(""); String xml = ServerCom.sendAndGetChatMessages(campaignId, lastDate, msg); Vector<ChatMessage> vetNew = Chat.parse(new InputSource(new StringReader(xml))); //Pegando a última data if(!vetNew.isEmpty()){ lastDate = vetNew.lastElement().getDateSent(); //Atualizando a tela vetMsg.addAll(vetNew); ca.notifyDataSetChanged(); } } But inside my TimerTask, I can't. The ListView IS UPDATED, but it just don't scroll automatically. What am I doing wrong? private class chatPollingTask extends TimerTask { @Override public void run() { String xml; if(lastDate != null){ //Chama o Updater xml = ServerCom.getChatMessages(campaignId, lastDate); }else{ //Chama o init denovo xml = ServerCom.getChatMessages(campaignId); } Vector<ChatMessage> vetNew = Chat.parse(new InputSource(new StringReader(xml))); if(!(vetNew.isEmpty())){ //TODO: descobrir porque o chat não está rolando quando chegam novas mensagens //Descobrir também como forçar o rolamento, enquanto o bug não for corrigido. Log.d("CHAT", "New message(s) acquired!"); lastDate = vetNew.lastElement().getDateSent(); vetMsg.addAll(vetNew); ca.notifyDataSetChanged(); } } } How can I force the scroll to the bottom? I've tried using scrollTo using lv.getBottom()-lv.getHeight(), but didn't work. Is this a bug in the Android SDK? Sorry for the MASSIVE amount of code, but I guess this way the question gets pretty clear.

  • Bound Command not firing on another viewModel? What Am I doing wrong?

    - by devnet247
    Hi I cannot seem to bind a command to a button.I have a treeview on the left showing Country City etc.. And I tabcontrol on the right. do I This uses 4 viewModels rootviewModel-ContinentViewModel-CountryViewModel-CityViewModel What I am building is based on http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/TreeViewWithViewModel.aspx Now on one of the tabs I have a Toolbar with a button "TestButton" that I have mapped in zaml. This does not fire! The reason is not firing is because I m binding the RootViewModel but the command that is bound in zaml is in the cityViewModel. How Do I pass the datacontext from one view to the other? or how do I make the button fire. I need the command to be in the cityViewModel. Any Suggestions on how I bind it? View "WorldExplorerView" where I bind the main DataContext public partial class WorldExplorerView { public WorldExplorerView() { InitializeComponent(); var continents = Database.GetContinents(); var rootViewModel = new RootViewModel(continents); DataContext = rootViewModel; } } CityViewModel public class CityViewModel : TreeViewItemViewModel { private City _city; private RelayCommand _testCommand; public CityViewModel(City city, CountryViewModel countryViewModel):base(countryViewModel,false) { _city = city; } Properties etc...... public ICommand TestCommand { get { if(_testCommand==null) { _testCommand = new RelayCommand(param => GetTestCommand(), param => CanCallTestCommand); ; } return _testCommand; } } protected bool CanCallTestCommand { get { return true; } } private static void GetTestCommand() { MessageBox.Show("It works"); } } ZAML <DockPanel> <DockPanel LastChildFill="True"> <Label DockPanel.Dock="top" Content="Title " HorizontalAlignment="Center"></Label> <StatusBar DockPanel.Dock="Bottom"> <StatusBarItem Content="Status Bar" ></StatusBarItem> </StatusBar> <Grid DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="2*"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <TreeView Name="tree" ItemsSource="{Binding Continents}"> <TreeView.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="{x:Type TreeViewItem}"> <Setter Property="IsExpanded" Value="{Binding IsExpanded,Mode=TwoWay}"/> <Setter Property="IsSelected" Value="{Binding IsSelected,Mode=TwoWay}"/> <Setter Property="FontWeight" Value="Normal"/> <Style.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="True"> <Setter Property="FontWeight" Value="Bold"></Setter> </Trigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </TreeView.ItemContainerStyle> <TreeView.Resources> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:ContinentViewModel}" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Width="16" Height="16" Margin="3,0" Source="Images\Continent.png"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding ContinentName}"/> </StackPanel> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:CountryViewModel}" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Width="16" Height="16" Margin="3,0" Source="Images\Country.png"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding CountryName}"/> </StackPanel> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:CityViewModel}" > <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Width="16" Height="16" Margin="3,0" Source="Images\City.png"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding CityName}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </TreeView.Resources> </TreeView> <GridSplitter Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Background="LightGray" Width="5" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"/> <Grid Grid.Column="2" Margin="5" > <TabControl> <TabItem Header="Demo"> <DockPanel LastChildFill="True"> <ToolBar DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <!-- DOES NOT WORK--> <Button Name="btnTest" Command="{Binding TestCommand}" Content="Press me see if works"></Button> </ToolBar> <TextBox></TextBox> </DockPanel> </TabItem> <TabItem Header="Details" DataContext="{Binding Path=SelectedItem.City, ElementName=tree, Mode=OneWay}"> <StackPanel > <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding CityName}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding Area}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding Population}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding CityDetailsInfo.ClubsCount}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding CityDetailsInfo.PubsCount}"/> </StackPanel> </TabItem> </TabControl> </Grid> </Grid> </DockPanel> </DockPanel>

    - by devnet247
    Hi all New to wpf and therefore struggling a bit. I am putting together a quick demo before we go for the full implementation I have a treeview on the left with Continent Country City structure when a user select the city it should populate some textboxes in a tabcontrol on the right hand side I made it sort of work but cannot make it work with composite objects. In a nutshell can you spot what is wrong with my zaml or code. Why is not binding to a my CityDetails.ClubsCount or CityDetails.PubsCount? • GKTank example is not working.

    - by david
    Hello, I'm trying to get the GKTank example working with 2 iPhones. Both have bluetooth enabled. I start the app on both devices and tap the screen. The Peer Picker comes up and the devices find each other. If I select one device in the list it says "Waiting for {other iPhone}..." forever. On the {other iPhone} the waiting phone gets grayed out. If I select the device to connect to from both devices at the same time both go into waiting state forever... The debug log says this if I select the other iPhone on the debugged device: 2010-05-30 23:20:24.331 GKTank[2433:4e03] handleEvents started (2) 2010-05-30 23:20:25.269 GKTank[2433:4e03] ~ DNSServiceRegister callback: Ref=135f70, Flags=2, ErrorType=0 name=00oRWv-0A..David’s iPhone regtype=_gktank._udp. domain=local. 2010-05-30 23:20:25.375 GKTank[2433:4e03] ~ DNSServiceBrowse callback: Ref=134f30, Flags=2, IFIndex=8 (name=[en2]), ErrorType=0 name=00oRWv-0A..David’s iPhone regtype=_gktank._udp. domain=local. 2010-05-30 23:20:30.691 GKTank[2433:4e03] ~ DNSServiceBrowse callback: Ref=134f30, Flags=2, IFIndex=-3 (name=[]), ErrorType=0 name=00K83eS0A..iPhone von Tamara regtype=_gktank._udp. domain=local. 2010-05-30 23:20:30.855 GKTank[2433:4e03] ~ DNSServiceQueryRecord callback: Ref=13a320, Flags=2, IFIndex=-3 (name=[]), ErrorType=0 fullname=00k83es0a..iphone\032von\032tamara._gktank._udp.local. rrtype=16 rrclass=1 rdlen=18 ttl=7200 2010-05-30 23:20:30.872 GKTank[2433:4e03] ** peer 480260628: oldbusy=0, newbusy=0 2010-05-30 23:20:35.215 GKTank[2433:207] ** Stop resolving? potentially previous resolves 2010-05-30 23:20:35.226 GKTank[2433:207] **** BEGIN RESOLVE: 480260628 and it stays that way. • Listview selects mutliple items when clicked

    - by xlph
    I'm trying to make a task manager, and I only have one problem. I have a listview that gets inflated. All the elements in the listview are correct. The problem is that when I select an item, the listview will select another item away. I've heard listviews repopulate the list as it scrolls down to save memory. I think this may be some sort of problem. Here is a picture of the problem. If i had more apps loaded, then it would continue to select multiple at once. Here is the code of my adapter and activity and XML associated public class TaskAdapter extends BaseAdapter{ private Context mContext; private List<TaskInfo> mListAppInfo; private PackageManager mPack; public TaskAdapter(Context c, List<TaskInfo> list, PackageManager pack) { mContext = c; mListAppInfo = list; mPack = pack; } @Override public int getCount() { return mListAppInfo.size(); } @Override public Object getItem(int position) { return mListAppInfo.get(position); } @Override public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } @Override public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { TaskInfo entry = mListAppInfo.get(position); if (convertView == null) { LayoutInflater inflater = LayoutInflater.from(mContext); //System.out.println("Setting LayoutInflater in TaskAdapter " +mContext +" " +R.layout.taskinfo +" " +R.id.tmbox); convertView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.taskinfo,null); } ImageView ivIcon = (ImageView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.tmImage); ivIcon.setImageDrawable(entry.getIcon()); TextView tvName = (TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.tmbox); tvName.setText(entry.getName()); convertView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { final CheckBox checkBox = (CheckBox)v.findViewById(R.id.tmbox); if(v.isSelected()) { System.out.println("Listview not selected "); //CK.get(arg2).setChecked(false); checkBox.setChecked(false); v.setSelected(false); } else { System.out.println("Listview selected "); //CK.get(arg2).setChecked(true); checkBox.setChecked(true); v.setSelected(true); } } }); return convertView; public class TaskManager extends Activity implements Runnable { private ProgressDialog pd; private TextView ram; private String s; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.taskpage); setTitleColor(Color.YELLOW); Thread thread = new Thread(this); thread.start(); } @Override public void run() { //System.out.println("In Taskmanager Run() Thread"); final PackageManager pm = getPackageManager(); final ListView box = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.cBoxSpace); final List<TaskInfo> CK = populate(box, pm); runOnUiThread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { ram.setText(s); box.setAdapter(new TaskAdapter(TaskManager.this, CK, pm)); //System.out.println("In Taskmanager runnable Run()"); endChecked(CK); } }); handler.sendEmptyMessage(0); } Taskinfo.xml <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal" android:gravity="center_horizontal"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/tmImage" android:layout_width="48dp" android:layout_height="48dp" android:scaleType="centerCrop" android:adjustViewBounds="false" android:focusable="false" /> <CheckBox android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/tmbox" android:lines="2"/> </LinearLayout> Taskpage.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> <ListView android:id="@+id/cBoxSpace" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="400dp" android:orientation="vertical"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/RAM" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="18sp" /> <Button android:id="@+id/endButton" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="End Selected Tasks" /> </LinearLayout> Any ideas for what reason mutliple items are selected with a single click would be GREATLY appreciated. I've been messing around with different implementations and listeners and listadapters but to no avail.

  • How to reduce virtual memory by optimising my PHP code?

    - by iCeR
    My current code (see below) uses 147MB of virtual memory! My provider has allocated 100MB by default and the process is killed once run, causing an internal error. The code is utilising curl multi and must be able to loop with more than 150 iterations whilst still minimizing the virtual memory. The code below is only set at 150 iterations and still causes the internal server error. At 90 iterations the issue does not occur. How can I adjust my code to lower the resource use / virtual memory? Thanks! <?php function udate($format, $utimestamp = null) { if ($utimestamp === null) $utimestamp = microtime(true); $timestamp = floor($utimestamp); $milliseconds = round(($utimestamp - $timestamp) * 1000); return date(preg_replace('`(?<!\\\\)u`', $milliseconds, $format), $timestamp); } $url = 'https://www.testdomain.com/'; $curl_arr = array(); $master = curl_multi_init(); for($i=0; $i<150; $i++) { $curl_arr[$i] = curl_init(); curl_setopt($curl_arr[$i], CURLOPT_URL, $url); curl_setopt($curl_arr[$i], CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); curl_setopt($curl_arr[$i], CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, FALSE); curl_setopt($curl_arr[$i], CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, FALSE); curl_multi_add_handle($master, $curl_arr[$i]); } do { curl_multi_exec($master,$running); } while($running > 0); for($i=0; $i<150; $i++) { $results = curl_multi_getcontent ($curl_arr[$i]); $results = explode("<br>", $results); echo $results[0]; echo "<br>"; echo $results[1]; echo "<br>"; echo udate('H:i:s:u'); echo "<br><br>"; usleep(100000); } ?> Processor Information Total processors: 8 Processor #1 Vendor GenuineIntel Name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz Speed 1995.120 MHz Cache 6144 KB Processor #2 Vendor GenuineIntel Name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz Speed 1995.120 MHz Cache 6144 KB Processor #3 Vendor GenuineIntel Name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz Speed 1995.120 MHz Cache 6144 KB Processor #4 Vendor GenuineIntel Name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz Speed 1995.120 MHz Cache 6144 KB Processor #5 Vendor GenuineIntel Name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz Speed 1995.120 MHz Cache 6144 KB Processor #6 Vendor GenuineIntel Name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz Speed 1995.120 MHz Cache 6144 KB Processor #7 Vendor GenuineIntel Name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz Speed 1995.120 MHz Cache 6144 KB Processor #8 Vendor GenuineIntel Name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz Speed 1995.120 MHz Cache 6144 KB Memory Information Memory for crash kernel (0x0 to 0x0) notwithin permissible range Memory: 8302344k/9175040k available (2176k kernel code, 80272k reserved, 901k data, 228k init, 7466304k highmem) System Information Linux server3.server.com 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5PAE #1 SMP Wed Sep 29 13:31:51 EDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Physical Disks SCSI device sda: 1952448512 512-byte hdwr sectors (999654 MB) sda: Write Protect is off sda: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 08 SCSI device sda: drive cache: write back SCSI device sda: 1952448512 512-byte hdwr sectors (999654 MB) sda: Write Protect is off sda: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 08 SCSI device sda: drive cache: write back sd 0:1:0:0: Attached scsi disk sda sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi removable disk sdb sd 0:1:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg4 type 0 sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg7 type 0 Current Memory Usage total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 8306672 7847384 459288 0 487912 6444548 -/+ buffers/cache: 914924 7391748 Swap: 4095992 496 4095496 Total: 12402664 7847880 4554784 Current Disk Usage Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 898G 307G 546G 36% / /dev/sda1 99M 19M 76M 20% /boot none 4.0G 0 4.0G 0% /dev/shm /var/tmpMnt 4.0G 1.8G 2.0G 48% /tmp

  • Android Actionbar Tabs + Fragments + Service

    - by Vladimir
    So, I have 3 problems with my code: 1) I want that each tab saves its state. So that a TextView shows changed text if it was changed. 2) if I go to Tab2 then to Tab1 I can't see the content of the fragments. Only if I touch on the already selected tab, it shows me the content 3) I can't correctly connect/bind and unbind service to Fragment Text must be changed from Service. Please help, I don't know how I realize my intent. • ComboBox Control using silverlight

    - by Aamir Hasan
    DropDown.zip (135.33 kb) LiveDemo Introduction In this article i am  going to explore some of the features of the ComboBox.ComboBox makes the collection visible and allows users to pick an item from the collection.After its first initialization, no matter if you bind a new datasource with fewer or more elements, the dropdown persists its original height.One workaround is the following:1. store the Properties from the original ComboBox2. delete the ComboBox removing it from its container3. create a new ComboBox and place it in the container4. recover the stores Properties5. bind the new DataSource to the newly created combobox Creating Silverlight ProjectCreate a new Silverlight 3 Project in VS 2008. Name it as ComboBoxtSample. Simple Data BindingAdd System.Windows.Control.Data reference to the Silverlight project. Silverlight UserControl Add a new page to display Bus data using DataGrid. Following shows Bus column XAML snippet:The ComboBox element represents a ComboBox control in XAML.  <ComboBox></ComboBox>ComboBox XAML        <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical">            <ComboBox Width="120" Height="30" x:Name="DaysDropDownList" DisplayMemberPath="Name">                <!--<ComboBox.ItemTemplate>                    <DataTemplate>                        <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">                            <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=Name}" FontWeight="Bold"></TextBlock>                            <TextBlock Text=", "></TextBlock>                            <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=ID}"></TextBlock>                        </StackPanel>                    </DataTemplate>                </ComboBox.ItemTemplate>-->            </ComboBox>        </StackPanel>   The following code below is an example implementation Combobox control support data binding     1 By setting the DisplayMemberPath property you can specify which data item in your data you want displayed in the ComboBox.    2 Setting the SelectedIndex allows you to specify which item in the ComboBox you want selected. Business Object public class Bus { public string Name { get; set; } public float Price { get; set; } }   Data Binding private List populatedlistBus() { listBus = new List(); listBus.Add(new Bus() {Name = "Bus 1", Price = 55f }); listBus.Add(new Bus() { Name = "Bus 2", Price = 55.7f }); listBus.Add(new Bus() { Name = "Bus 3", Price = 2f }); listBus.Add(new Bus() { Name = "Bus 4", Price = 6f }); listBus.Add(new Bus() { Name = "Bus 5", Price = 9F }); listBus.Add(new Bus() { Name = "Bus 6", Price = 10.1f }); return listBus; }   The following line of code sets the ItemsSource property of a ComboBox. DaysDropDownList.ItemsSource = populatedlistBus(); Output I hope you enjoyed this simple Silverlight example Conclusion In this article, we saw how data binding works in ComboBox.You learnt how to work with the ComboBox control in Silverlight.

  • Windows Phone 7 development: first impressions

    - by DigiMortal
    After hard week in work I got some free time to play with Windows Phone 7 CTP developer tools. Although my first test application is still unfinished I think it is good moment to share my first experiences to you. In this posting I will give you quick overview of Windows Phone 7 developer tools from developer perspective. If you are familiar with Visual Studio 2010 then you will feel comfortable because Windows Phone 7 CTP developer tools base on Visual Studio 2010 Express. Project templates There are five project templates available. Three of them are based on Silverlight and two on XNA Game Studio: Windows Phone Application (Silverlight) Windows Phone List Application (Silverlight) Windows Phone Class Library (Silverlight) Windows Phone Game (XNA Game Studio) Windows Phone Game Library (XNA Game Studio) Currently I am writing to test applications. One of them is based on Windows Phone Application and the other on Windows Phone List Application project template. After creating these projects you see the following views in Visual Studio. Windows Phone Application. Click on image to enlarge. Windows Phone List Application. Click on image to enlarge.  I suggest you to use some of these templates to get started more easily. Windows Phone 7 emulator You can run your Windows Phone 7 applications on Windows Phone 7 emulator that comes with developer tools CTP. If you run your application then emulator is started automatically and you can try out how your application works in phone-like emulator. You can see screenshot of emulator on right. Currently there is opened Windows Phone List Application as it is created by default. Click on image to enlarge it. Emulator is a little bit slow and uncomfortable but it works pretty well. This far I have caused only couple of crashes during my experiments. In these cases emulator works but Visual Studio gets stuck because it cannot communicate with emulator. One important note. Emulator is based on virtual machine although you can see only phone screen and options toolbar. If you want to run emulator you must close all virtual machines running on your machine and run Visual Studio 2010 as administrator. Once you run emulator you can keep it open because you can stop your application in Visual Studio, modify, compile and re-deploy it without restarting emulator. Designing user interfaces You can design user interface of your application in Visual Studio. When you open XAML-files it is displayed in window with two panels. Left panel shows you device screen and works as visual design environment while right panel shows you XAML mark-up and let’s you modify XML if you need it. As it is one of my very first Silverlight applications I felt more comfortable with XAML editor because property names in property boxes of visual designer confused me a little bit. Designer panel is not very good because it is visually hard to follow. It has black background that makes dark borders of controls very hard to see. If you have monitor with very high contrast then it is may be not a real problem. I have usual monitor and I have problem. :) Putting controls on design surface, dragging and resizing them is also pretty painful. Some controls are drawn correctly but for some controls you have to set width and height in XML so they can be resized. After some practicing it is not so annoying anymore. On the right you can see toolbox with some controllers. This is all you get out of the box. But it is sufficient to get started. After getting some experiences you can create your own controls or use existing ones from other vendors or developers. If it is your first time to do stuff with Silverlight then keep Google open – you need it hard. After getting over the first shock you get the point very quickly and start developing at normal speed. :) Writing source code Writing source code is the most familiar part of this action. Good old Visual Studio code editor with all nice features it has. But here you get also some surprises: The anatomy of Silverlight controls is a little bit different than the one of user controls in web and forms projects. Windows Phone 7 doesn’t run on full version of Windows (I bet it is some version of Windows CE or something like this) then there is less system classes you can use. Some familiar classes have less methods that in full version of .NET Framework and in these cases you have to write all the code by yourself or find libraries or source code from somewhere. These problems are really not so much problems than limitations and you get easily over them. Conclusion Windows Phone 7 CTP developer tools help you do a lot of things on Windows Phone 7. Although I expected better performance from tools I think that current performance is not a problem. This far my first test project is going very well and Google has answer for almost every question. Windows Phone 7 is mobile device and therefore it has less hardware resources than desktop computers. This is why toolset is so limited. The more you need memory the more slower is device and as you may guess it needs the more battery. If you are writing apps for mobile devices then make your best to get your application use as few resources as possible and act as fast as possible.

  • Grandparent – Parent – Child Reports in SQL Developer

    - by thatjeffsmith
    You’ll never see one of these family stickers on my car, but I promise not to judge…much. Parent – Child reports are pretty straightforward in Oracle SQL Developer. You have a ‘parent’ report, and then one or more ‘child’ reports which are based off of a value in a selected row or value from the parent. If you need a quick tutorial to get up to speed on the subject, go ahead and take 5 minutes Shortly before I left for vacation 2 weeks agao, I got an interesting question from one of my Twitter Followers: @thatjeffsmith any luck with the #Oracle awr reports in #SQLDeveloper?This is easy with multi generation parent>child Done in #dbvisualizer — Ronald Rood (@Ik_zelf) August 26, 2012 Now that I’m back from vacation, I can tell Ronald and everyone else that the answer is ‘Yes!’ And here’s how Time to Get Out Your XML Editor Don’t have one? That’s OK, SQL Developer can edit XML files. While the Reporting interface doesn’t surface the ability to create multi-generational reports, the underlying code definitely supports it. We just need to hack away at the XML that powers a report. For this example I’m going to start simple. A query that brings back DEPARTMENTs, then EMPLOYEES, then JOBs. We can build the first two parts of the report using the report editor. A Parent-Child report in Oracle SQL Developer (Departments – Employees) Save the Report to XML Once you’ve generated the XML file, open it with your favorite XML editor. For this example I’ll be using the build-it XML editor in SQL Developer. SQL Developer Reports in their raw XML glory! Right after the PDF element in the XML document, we can start a new ‘child’ report by inserting a DISPLAY element. I just copied and pasted the existing ‘display’ down so I wouldn’t have to worry about screwing anything up. Note I also needed to change the ‘master’ name so it wouldn’t confuse SQL Developer when I try to import/open a report that has the same name. Also I needed to update the binds tags to reflect the names from the child versus the original parent report. This is pretty easy to figure out on your own actually – I mean I’m no real developer and I got it pretty quick. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <displays> <display report name in the tree. You just need to double-click it to open it. Here’s what it looks like running A 3 generation family Now Let’s Build an AWR Text Report Ronald wanted to have the ability to query AWR snapshots and generate the AWR reports. That requires a few inputs, including a START and STOP snapshot ID. That basically tells AWR what time period to use for generating the report. And here’s where it gets tricky. We’ll need to use aliases for the SNAP_ID column. Since we’re using the same column name from 2 different queries, we need to use different bind variables. Fortunately for us, SQL Developer’s clever enough to use the column alias as the BIND. Here’s what I mean: Grandparent Query SELECT snap_id start1, begin_interval_time, end_interval_time FROM dba_hist_snapshot ORDER BY 1 asc Parent Query SELECT snap_id stop1, begin_interval_time, end_interval_time, :START1 carry FROM dba_hist_snapshot WHERE snap_id > :START1 ORDER BY 1 asc And here’s where it gets even trickier – you can’t reference a bind from outside the parent query. My grandchild report can’t reference a value from the grandparent report. So I just carry the selected value down to the parent. In my parent query SELECT you see the ‘:START1′ at the end? That’s making that value available to me when I use it in my grandchild query. To complicate things a bit further, I can’t have a column name with a ‘:’ in it, or SQL Developer will get confused when I try to reference the value of the variable with the ‘:’ – and ‘::Name’ doesn’t work. But that’s OK, just alias it. Grandchild Query Select Output From Table(Dbms_Workload_Repository.Awr_Report_Text(1298953802, 1,:CARRY, :STOP1)); Ok, and the last trick – I hard-coded my report to use my database’s DB_ID and INST_ID into the AWR package call. Now a smart person could figure out a way to make that work on any database, but I got lazy and and ran out of time. But this should be far enough for you to take it from here. Here’s what my report looks like now: Caution: don’t run this if you haven’t licensed Enterprise Edition with Diagnostic Pack. • My Tech Ed North America Preview - Content Edition

    - by Chris Gardner
    As I promised in my last post, I feel the need to give you a rundown on all the technical content I am looking forward to checking out at Tech Ed this year. We shall start with the content I know I'll be able to see. This would be some demo stations in the Technical Learning Center. I will DEFINITELY be checking out the Windows Phone Device Bar. I will admit that I am a bit of a phone snob, and I just want to manhandle all that sexy, sexy tech. I am also planning on talking to the Windows Phone team and the Azure team. Year after year, I end up spending more time in either the TLC or taking certification tests than anywhere else. This leads me to the one "Exam Cram" session I hope to attend. There is a session to cram for 70-599: Designing and Developing Windows Phone Applications. I know this seems odd. I'm (sort of) an XNA guru. However, I'm not that up on my Silverlight. I know enough to add Silverlight to an XNA project. Now, let's talk breakout sessions. We always need to keep track of where we're going. I know, I talk about solving problems over forcing buzz words. However, it is important to know what those buzz words before you tell people not to use them. For this, we will look to the "What's New in Visual Studio 11" and "What's New in Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5." Of course, we do talk bad about buzz words around here. For this, I'm really looking forward to "Visual C#/Visual Basic: Becoming a Guru with Existing Features." I still have .NET 2 tricks that are crucial to my internal libraries. In depth knowledge will NEVER trump shortcut libraries. There is a session in ASP.NET for phones and tablets. For those of you that have not tried to use ASP.NET on a mobile device, there is one thing you really need to understand. Mobile devices don't use scroll bars. That's right; the thing with the least screen real estate doesn't use scroll bars. Thus, I am hoping this session will give some good advice in having an ASP.NET site target both mobile and desktop. The last "business only" session "The Accidental Team Foundation Server Admin." T & W Operations is a VERY small business. As such, I am the TFS admin because I'm the developer that is also the SQL Guru. I keep my server up, but it'd be nice to know some really cool tricks for the part time guy. This leads us the the fun sessions. Coding4Fun has a Kinect session. The Twitter followers will remember that I now have a Kinect for Windows sitting on my desk at work. I have gotten pretty handy with the device, but I KNOW I'm missing some good stuff. Finally, we come to Brian Prince's session on "Making Crazy Money with Games and the Cloud." Never mind the fact that we're using Azure at work. Never mind the fact that I'm actually using the cloud in a game. Never mind the fact that the session has the terms "Crazy Money" and "Games" in the title. If you've never seen Brian Prince speak, you're missing out. In the Hands-on-Labs, we are not allowed to make our own schedule. Instead, we're asked what sessions we can't miss, and they try to schedule around those times. This was the one session I said I couldn't miss. This should complete the technical content for the conference. Coming soon, I'll dig into the certifications I hope to attain. Then, we'll talk about the social activities for the week. Here's a preview of that. I am a member of The Krewe...

  • How to Increase the VMWare Boot Screen Delay

    - by Trevor Bekolay
    If you’ve wanted to try out a bootable CD or USB flash drive in a virtual machine environment, you’ve probably noticed that VMWare’s offerings make it difficult to change the boot device. We’ll show you how to change these options. You can do this either for one boot, or permanently for a particular virtual machine. Even experienced users of VMWare Player or Workstation may not recognize the screen above – it’s the virtual machine’s BIOS, which in most cases flashes by in the blink of an eye. If you want to boot up the virtual machine with a CD or USB key instead of the hard drive, then you’ll need more than an eye’s-blink to press Escape and bring up the Boot Menu. Fortunately, there is a way to introduce a boot delay that isn’t exposed in VMWare’s graphical interface – you have to edit the virtual machine’s settings file (a .vmx file) manually. Editing the Virtual Machine’s .vmx Find the .vmx file that contains the settings for your virtual machine. You chose a location for this when you created the virtual machine – in Windows, the default location is a folder called My Virtual Machines in your My Documents folder. In VMWare Workstation, the location of the .vmx file is listed on the virtual machine’s tab. If in doubt, search your hard drive for .vmx files. If you don’t want to use Windows default search, an awesome utility that locates files instantly is Everything. Open the .vmx file with any text editor. Somewhere in this file, enter in the following line… save the file, then close out of the text editor: bios.bootdelay = 20000 This will introduce a 20 second delay when the virtual machine loads up, giving you plenty of time to press the Escape button and access the boot menu. The number in this line is just a value in milliseconds, so for a five second boot delay, enter 5000, and so on. Change Boot Options Temporarily Now, when you boot up your virtual machine, you’ll have plenty of time to enter one of the keystrokes listed at the bottom of the BIOS screen on boot-up. Press Escape to bring up the Boot Menu. This allows you to select a different device to boot from – like a CD drive. Your selection will be forgotten the next time you boot up this virtual machine. Change Boot Options Permanently When the BIOS screen comes up, press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup menu. Switch to the Boot tab, and change the ordering of the items by pressing the “+” key to move items up on the list, and the “-” key to move items down the list. We’ve switched the order so that the CD-ROM Drive boots first. Once you make this change permanent, you may want to re-edit the .vmx file to remove the boot delay. Boot from a USB Flash Drive One thing that is noticeably missing from the list of boot options is a USB device. VMWare’s BIOS just does not allow this, but we can get around that limitation using the PLoP Boot Manager that we’ve previously written about. And as a bonus, since everything is virtual anyway, there’s no need to actually burn PLoP to a CD. Open the settings for the virtual machine you want to boot with a USB drive. Click on Add… at the bottom of the settings screen, and select CD/DVD Drive. Click Next. Click the Use ISO Image radio button, and click Next. Browse to find plpbt.iso or plpbtnoemul.iso from the PLoP zip file. Ensure that Connect at power on is checked, and then click Finish. Click OK on the main Virtual Machine Settings page. Now, if you use the steps above to boot using that CD/DVD drive, PLoP will load, allowing you to boot from a USB drive! Conclusion We’re big fans of VMWare Player and Workstation, as they let us try out a ton of geeky things without worrying about harming our systems. By introducing a boot delay, we can add bootable CDs and USB drives to the list of geeky things we can try out. • doubleTwist is an iTunes Alternative that Supports Several Devices

    - by Mysticgeek
    There are a lot of iTunes users out there, but unfortunately you can’t use it with all of your portable devices. Today we take a look at doubleTwist, which allows you to sync your media with a multitude of portable devices and easily share it as well. Note: You can run doubleTwist on Windows or Mac, and here we take a look at the Windows version. Install & Setup doubleTwist Download and install doubleTwist using the defaults in the wizard… Installation takes several moments and you’ll see the progress while it finishes up. After installation is complete, sign up for an account if you don’t already have one. If you do have an account you can login right away. Enter in your username, email address, and password then click Sign Up.   You’ll get an confirmation email and need to activate the account before you can sign in. Once you’re all signed up, launch doubleTwist and you’ll be ready to start using it. doubleTwist Music The default music store is Amazon MP3 store which might appeal to those of you who are tired of the iTunes music store. A lot of times the music is cheaper and available at higher bit rates. You can start searching for music in the Amazon Music Store and previewing songs. To purchase anything though you will need to sign into your Amazon account.   Under Playlists it allows you to import your playlists from iTunes and Windows Media Player, which is a handy feature if you don’t want to set them up again. Of course you can play your songs through the music player on your desktop. Devices One of the coolest things about doubleTwist is that it supports a lot of different portable media devices including iPod, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Android, PSP, Smartphones, and much more. Unfortunately for Zune users…there isn’t any support for the Zune of Zune HD yet. Here we have a Creative Zen attached and can sync songs, pictures, and podcasts. An HTC-S620 Smartphone running Windows Mobile… Even a simple USB drive will be recognized and you can transfer your media to it as well.   Podcasts Finding your favorite audio and video podcasts is easy with the search feature. You can easily manage and subscribe to podcasts in the subscriptions section.   You can watch the video podcasts directly in doubleTwist. Sharing Media Also you can share digital media with your friends or add it to Flickr and YouTube. You can send any pictures, videos, or music in your library to other people by dragging it over. You can email users individually… Or access contacts from your Gmail and Yahoo accounts. There is a limit to how much you can send of video podcasts… only the first 10 minutes. The person you send it to will get a link in their email that points to your My Feed page on the doubleTwist site.   There they can access the media you sent…in this example it’s a video podcast but you can share any media. Other Features Under My Profile you can change your avatar and personal information.   In Preferences you can choose where media is stored, its startup actions, podcast subscriptions, and manage device syncing. Conclusion It’s still in beta stage so expect some bugs, but overall doubleTwist is a solid media player that is easy to use with a clean interface. It’s simple and doesn’t try to do too much so is fairly easy on system resources. The main annoyance is it tries to catalog all of your media out of the box. Which may be alright for some users with smaller media collections, but very irritating to advanced users with large collections. Also there is currently no support for the Zune, but according to their forums, it’s on the way. At the time of this writing it’s in public beta and can be downloaded for XP, Vista, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit), and Mac OSX. If you’re looking for an iTunes alternative that works with several different portable devices, you might want to give DoubleTwist a try. • Convert a PDF eBook to ePub Format

    - by Matthew Guay
    Would you like to read a PDF eBook on an eReader or mobile device, but aren’t happy with the performance? Here’s how you can convert your PDFs to the popular ePub format so you can easily read them on any device. PDFs are a popular format for eBooks since they render the same on any device and can preserve the exact layout of the print book.  However, this benefit is their major disadvantage on mobile devices, as you often have to zoom and pan back and forth to see everything on the page.  ePub files, on the other hand, are an increasingly popular option. They can reflow to fill your screen instead of sticking to a strict layout style.  With the free Calibre program, you can quickly convert your PDF eBooks to ePub format. Getting Started Download the Calibre installer (link below) for your operating system, and install as normal.  Calibre works on recent versions of Windows, OS X, and Linux.  The Calibre installer is very streamlined, so the install process was quite quick. Calibre is a great application for organizing your eBooks.  It can automatically sort your books by their metadata, and even display their covers in a Coverflow-style viewer. To add an eBook to your library, simply drag-and-drop the file into the Calibre window, or click Add books at the top.  Here you can choose to add all the books from a folder and more. Calibre will then add the book(s) to your library, import the associated metadata, and organize them in the catalog. Convert your Books Once you’ve imported your books into Calibre, it’s time to convert them to the format you want.  Select the book or books you want to convert, and click Convert E-books.  Select whether you want to convert them individually or bulk convert them. The convertor window has lots of options, so you can get your ePub book exactly like you want.  You can simply click Ok and go with the defaults, or you can tweak the settings. Do note that the conversion will only work successfully with PDFs that contain actual text.  Some PDFs are actually images scanned in from the original books; these will appear just like the PDF after the conversion, and won’t be any easier to read. On the first tab, you’ll notice that Calibri will repopulate most of the metadata fields with info from your PDF.  It will also use the first page of the PDF as the cover.  Edit any of the information that may be incorrect, and add any additional information you want associated with the book. If you want to convert your eBook to a different format other than ePub, Calibri’s got you covered, too.  On the top right, you can choose to output the converted eBook into a many different file formats, including the Kindle-friendly MOBI format. One other important settings page is the Structure Detection tab.  Here you can choose to have it remove headers and footers in the converted book, as well as automatically detect chapter breaks. Click Ok when you’ve finished choosing your settings and Calibre will convert the book.  This may take a few minutes, depending on the size of the PDF.  If the conversion seems to be taking too long, you can click Show job details for more information on the progress.   The conversion usually works good, but we did have one job freeze on us.  When we checked the job details, it indicated that the PDF was copy-protected.  Most PDF eBooks, however, worked fine. Now, back in the main Calibri window, select your book and save it to disk.  You can choose to save only the EPUB format, or you can select Save to disk to save all formats of the book to your computer. You can also view the ePub file directly in Calibri’s built-in eBook viewer.  This is the PDF book we converted, and it looks fairly good in the converted format.  It does have some odd line breaks and some misplaced numbers, but on the whole, the converted book is much easier to read, especially on small mobile devices.   Even images get included inline, so you shouldn’t be missing anything from the original eBook. Conclusion Calibri makes it simple to read your eBooks in any format you need. It is a project that is in constant development, and updates regularly adding better stability and features.  Whether you want to ready your PDF eBooks on a Sony Reader, Kindle, netbook or Smartphone, your books will now be more accessible than ever.  And with thousands of free PDF eBooks out there, you’ll be sure to always have something to read. If you’d like some Geeky PDF eBooks, Microsoft Press is offering a number of free PDF eBooks right now.  Check them out at this link (Account Required). • Oracle’s Web Experience Management

    - by Christie Flanagan
    Today’s guest post on Oracle’s Web Experience Management comes from a member of our WebCenter Evangelist team, Noël Jaffré, a Principal Technologist based in France.Oracle’s Web Experience Management (WEM) solution enables organizations to optimize the online channel for driving marketing and customer experience management success. It empowers business users to manage the web presence and create rich and engaging online experiences for customers and prospects. Oracle's WEM platform provides a framework to simplify the integration of Oracle, third-party and custom-built applications. This framework essentially allows the creation and integration of applications using one single business interface called the WEM interface. It includes the following: Single sign-on access control for all integrated applications using the Central Authentication Service (CAS) component. A single centralized administration window for user, role, and native applications management including site management. Community server management, gadget server management as well as management for partner integrated technologies. A Representational State Transfer (REST) API for accessing WebCenter Sites data. REST services are supported on both Oracle WebCenter Sites and Oracle WebCenter Sites Satellite Server to leverage the satellite server cache. All REST requests are cached for web consuming applications as well for the high performance delivery of native applications on the mobile channel. Oracle WebCenter Sites’ Web Experience Management environment enables organizations to deliver a compelling online experience to customers by simplifying the deployment and management of sophisticated and engaging websites. The WebCenter Sites platform automates the entire process of managing web content including: Authoring:  Business users can easily contribute and manage web content in real-time, with intuitive interfaces and drag-and-drop content authoring and layout capabilities designed for the non-technical user. Contextual Content Targeting: Marketers are empowered to create and manage targeted campaigns with relevant recommendations and promotions based on the context of the session of the visitor such as his or her navigation history, user profile, language, location or other information shared during the visitor session. Content Publishing and Deployment: It offers advanced multi-site management capabilities for departmental or regional sites, as well as strong multi-lingual and multi-locale content management. The remote satellite server caching infrastructure provides high-performance, distributed caching, tuned to deliver high-volume, targeted and multi-lingual sites. Analytics and Optimization: Business users and marketers have the ability to measure the effectiveness of their online content and campaigns at a granular level. Editors and marketers can immediately determine whether a given article or promotion is relevant to a particular customer segment. User-generated Content: Marketers can enable blogs, comments, rating and reviews on the website.  All comments and reviews posted to the website can be moderated from the administrator interface either manually or automatically using filters, whitelists, blacklists or community based moderation. Personalized Gadget Dashboards:  Site managers can deploy gadgets, small applications using web content, individually or as part of dashboards containing multiple gadgets.  These gadget dashboards enable site visitors to create their own “MyPage” on a given site where they can select and customize the gadgets that the site administrator has made available.  Any gadget that conforms to the iGoogle/OpenSocial standard can be made available to site visitors, or they can be created within the WEM interface. Oracle's WEM platform also provides a unique environment for the delivery of a rich, multichannel online experience for site visitors through its advanced management modules for mobile. With Oracle’s WEM solution, it’s easy to control branding and deliver a consistent message while repurposing web content for publication to mobile devices, kiosks and much more. This distinctive approach provides: HTML5 Delivery: HTML5 delivery which includes native support for adaptive design that responds to the user’s computer screen resolution and orientation. The approach is less driven by the particular hardware and more driven by the user’s interactions with the device. In other words, this approach takes both the screen interactions (either cursor or touch) and screen sizes and orientation into consideration. A Unique Native Mobile Extension Environment for Contributors: From the WEM interface, a contributor can directly manage their mobile channel, using the tooling already in place for driving the traditional web presence. This includes the mobile presentation, as well as mobile insite editing, drag and drop page layout, and in-context recommendations and personalization. Optimized REST APIs for High Performance Content Delivery on Native Mobile Device Applications: WebCenter Sites’ REST API uses the underlying HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) to interact with resources. Resources support two types of input and output formats -- XML and JSON. REST calls are customizable to optimize the interactions between the content repositories and the client applications. Caching is essential to decrease network loads and improve overall reliability and usability of the applications and user interactions. REST results are cached through the highly efficient Oracle WebCenter Sites caching architecture.

  • DirectX9 dynamic rendering

    - by gardian06
    What I am planning to do is have the models (or maybe just an identifier for the model to be used) stored outside of the directX9 framework, and so in nature have completely dynamic rendering. All of the information that I have found contains static rendering (rendering models that are stored in memory at specific positions) I would like information on how to take a model (or identifier for a model type) that is stored outside of the framework, and render it to the screen. I am expected to take a container that holds all the relevant data to be rendered. The information outside would hold the position, orientation (quaternion, though I am told that I can also get a rotation matrix if I prefer), and dimensions (scale)

  • How to Buy an SD Card: Speed Classes, Sizes, and Capacities Explained

    - by Chris Hoffman
    Memory cards are used in digital cameras, music players, smartphones, tablets, and even laptops. But not all SD cards are created equal — there are different speed classes, physical sizes, and capacities to consider. Different devices require different types of SD cards. Here are the differences you’ll need to keep in mind when picking out the right SD card for your device. Speed Class In a nutshell, not all SD cards offer the same speeds. This matters for some tasks more than it matters for others. For example, if you’re a professional photographer taking photos in rapid succession on a DSLR camera saving them in high-resolution RAW format, you’ll want a fast SD card so your camera can save them as fast as possible. A fast SD card is also important if you want to record high-resolution video and save it directly to the SD card. If you’re just taking a few photos on a typical consumer camera or you’re just using an SD card to store some media files on your smartphone, the speed isn’t as important. Manufacturers use “speed classes” to measure an SD card’s speed. The SD Association that defines the SD card standard doesn’t actually define the exact speeds associated with these classes, but they do provide guidelines. There are four different speed classes — 10, 8, 4, and 2. 10 is the fastest, while 2 is the slowest. Class 2 is suitable for standard definition video recording, while classes 4 and 6 are suitable for high-definition video recording. Class 10 is suitable for “full HD video recording” and “HD still consecutive recording.” There are also two Ultra High Speed (UHS) speed classes, but they’re more expensive and are designed for professional use. UHS cards are designed for devices that support UHS. Here are the associated logos, in order from slowest to fastest:       You’ll probably be okay with a class 4 or 6 card for typical use in a digital camera, smartphone, or tablet. Class 10 cards are ideal if you’re shooting high-resolution videos or RAW photos. Class 2 cards are a bit on the slow side these days, so you may want to avoid them for all but the cheapest digital cameras. Even a cheap smartphone can record HD video, after all. An SD card’s speed class is identified on the SD card itself. You’ll also see the speed class on the online store listing or on the card’s packaging when purchasing it. For example, in the below photo, the middle SD card is speed class 4, while the two other cards are speed class 6. If you see no speed class symbol, you have a class 0 SD card. These cards were designed and produced before the speed class rating system was introduced. They may be slower than even a class 2 card. Physical Size Different devices use different sizes of SD cards. You’ll find standard-size CD cards, miniSD cards, and microSD cards. Standard SD cards are the largest, although they’re still very small. They measure 32x24x2.1 mm and weigh just two grams. Most consumer digital cameras for sale today still use standard SD cards. They have the standard “cut corner”  design. miniSD cards are smaller than standard SD cards, measuring 21.5x20x1.4 mm and weighing about 0.8 grams. This is the least common size today. miniSD cards were designed to be especially small for mobile phones, but we now have a smaller size. microSD cards are the smallest size of SD card, measuring 15x11x1 mm and weighing just 0.25 grams. These cards are used in most cell phones and smartphones that support SD cards. They’re also used in many other devices, such as tablets. SD cards will only fit into marching slots. You can’t plug a microSD card into a standard SD card slot — it won’t fit. However, you can purchase an adapter that allows you to plug a smaller SD card into a larger SD card’s form and fit it into the appropriate slot. Capacity Like USB flash drives, hard drives, solid-state drives, and other storage media, different SD cards can have different amounts of storage. But the differences between SD card capacities don’t stop there. Standard SDSC (SD) cards are 1 MB to 2 GB in size, or perhaps 4 GB in size — although 4 GB is non-standard. The SDHC standard was created later, and allows cards 2 GB to 32 GB in size. SDXC is a more recent standard that allows cards 32 GB to 2 TB in size. You’ll need a device that supports SDHC or SDXC cards to use them. At this point, the vast majority of devices should support SDHC. In fact, the SD cards you have are probably SDHC cards. SDXC is newer and less common. When buying an SD card, you’ll need to buy the right speed class, size, and capacity for your needs. Be sure to check what your device supports and consider what speed and capacity you’ll actually need. Image Credit: Ryosuke SEKIDO on Flickr, Clive Darra on Flickr, Steven Depolo on Flickr
