• Where can a list of Desktop web browsers be found at?

  I have another question posted in regards to the practicality of whitelisting. In this question I'm simply looking for an frequently updated list of top known used Desktop web browsers to use as part of my whitelist. I'm not trying to target any specific OS so please show one, show all. The list of browsers for desktops isn't exploding, but it does grow. I've only recently been made aware of other browsers that have multiple rendering engines. I'm not always on top of the text based browsers found out there either. I'm aware of the mobile browser platform and there is an active list used with regular expression for identification purposes that I will use as well as whatever I can find for the desktop platforms.

• Adsense ads are not a good fit for my site

  I run an academic network for college students to communicate at particular universities and we run Google Adsense. The site pulls in a decent amount for a side project but our CTR is horrible <0.2% and our RPM is equally low. The problem lies in the fact that Google pegs us as an education site (which we are) but shows our users ads for U of Phoenix, Devry U and other for-profit universities. All of our users are students of the more higher-caliber institutions and therefore have no use for these ads. I've known about this problem for some time but I don't know what to do to show more relevant ads instead (i.e. Spring Break, school apparel, poker, sports, etc). What would be the best way to change this?

  I've finished high school where I was in the top three in my class, I studied a little and there too I was pretty much Big Fish in a bigger pond than high school. Now I got into my first job in a very big company, there are some incredibly talented programmers and researchers here (mostly in departments not related to mine) and for the first time I really feel like I'm incredibly average - I do not want to be average. I read technical books all the time, I try to code on my personal time but I don't feel like that's enough. What can I do to become a leading programmer again in this big company? Is there anything specifically that can be done to make myself known here? This is a very big company so in order to advance you must be very good and shine in your field.

• Where can I safetly search domain whois without worrying about the search engine parking on the domain immediately after the search?

  There are a lot of companies that provide domain whois but I've heard of a lot of people who had bad experiences where the domain was bought soon after the whois search and the price was increased dramatically. Where can I gain access to a domain whois where I don't have to worry about that happening? Update: Apparently, the official name for this practice is called Domain Front Running and some sites go as far as to create explicit policies stating that they don't do it. This is where a domain registrar or an intermediary (like a domain lookup site) mines the searches for possibly attractive domains and then either sells the data to a third-party, or goes ahead and registers the name themselves ahead of you. In one case a registrar took advantage of what's known as the "grace period" and registered every single domain users looked up through them and held on to them for 5 days before releasing them back into the pool at no cost to themselves. • Booting 11.10 from USB stick on MacBook Pro 5,1 fails

  I've created a bootable memory stick on a Windows computer, and tested it on an HP PC. It's made from a 64-bit image of Ubuntu 11.10, downloaded from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download. When I boot from this memory stick, there is some kind of boot menu, where I can choose to run Ubuntu from the memory stick, or install. I select Run from memory stick. (the words may be wrong here, I'm taking it from memory.) From this point, the screen is black (but backlighted), and I can't do anything but turn off the computer. It gets hot, too. Has anyone been more successful than me? Are there known issues? The computer is a 15 inch MacBook Pro 5,1 (unibody, late 2008), 4 GB memory.

  I finally did the work necessary to improve the codegen for finally handlers. More improvements are still possible, but at least most finally handlers will now execute without touching the exception object (and hence without having to do any mapping/stack trace collection work). • When Your ASP.NET MVC Custom Error Doesn't Render...

  You've put [HandleError] on your controller and you've set <customErrors mode="On"> in the web.config file. So why do you still see the yellow screen of death? I've heard various wrong explanations for this phenomena, including "it only works under IIS" and "it only works in release mode".
