• Blocking path scanning

  I'm seeing in my access log a number of request very suspicious: /i /im /imaa /imag /image /images /images/d /images/di /images/dis They part from a known resource (in the above example /images/disrupt.jpg). All comming from same IP. Requests varies from 1/sec to 10/sec, seems somewhat random. It's obviously they are trying to find something and seems they are using a script. How do I block this kind of behaviour? I though of blocking the IP request, at least for a given time. Keeping in mind that: Request intervals seems legitimate (at least I think so). I don't want to end blocking a search engine bot, which may find 404 urls too (and that's a different problem, I know). ¿Do they use always same IP?

• VirtualBox Port Forward

  A great new feature in VirtualBox 4.0 is the ability to use NAT networking and forward ports without needing to use ssh -L/-R tricks.  This is great for booting multiple VM domains simultaneously.  It is possible to have several instances which map back to the host machine and different ports on localhost:* automatically forward to the correct VM.  This avoids the hassle of setting up dns entries or static IP addresses.In this example, I'm mapping the host ports 3xxxx to the VM's well known server ports.Note: It is important to setup the Frontend HTTP host/port to avoid incorrect URL rewriting.You may also need to setup an http channel to deal with local traffic which uses the network address 10.0.2.15Happy VMing.

  Hi, I think a community wiki on problems (and solutions) when installing Ubuntu (10.10) on a Thinkpad Edge 11 would be nice (because I just got one ;)). I'll contribute with my own problems and solutions, and hope others will join too. Thinkwiki entry for the Edge 11 Known problems: No wifi-driver, solution: answer #1, answer #2 Fan is load, even though it's on auto. No solution. Thinkfan is a possible solution, but correction values for sensors should be supplied (mapping sensors to specific areas). Also, one sensor is between -100C and +100C - maybe some kind of deactivation would help.

  Let's say that we have a regex and an index i , if we suppose that the set of string that match our regex are sorted in a lexicographical order, how could we get the i element of this list ? Edit : I added this simple example for more explanation : input : regex="[a-c]{1,2}"; index=4; in this case the ordered list of string that matches this regex contains those elements : a aa ab ac b ba bb bc c ca cb cc output : the 4th element which is ac ps: it's known that the string list that match the regex have infinite element, this doesn't have an impact on the proccess of extracting the element in the given index.

• Tiled perlin/value noise texture with (2^n)+1 size

  Actually what I have in mind is value noise I think, but what I am going to ask applies to both of them. It is known that if you want to produce tiled texture by using the perlin/value noise, the size of the texture should be specified as the power of 2 (2^n). Without any modifications to the algorithm when you use the size of (2^n)+1 the texture cannot be tiled anymore, so I am wondering whether it is possible (by modifying the algorithm somehow) to generate such tiling texture with the size of (2^n)+1. • New hard drive means re-install everything

  I recently found a good deal on a 7200 RPM 500GB latpop drive and decided to upgrade myself to that. Ive been operating on a 150GB drive for a long time and hadnt been cleaning up old projects, encodings, etc. so it was running thin on space. This was a cheap upgrade (< $90) so I opted for it.   Ive been Editing lots of videos lately. My company got a video camera: Canon Legria FS200. It saves the movies in a digital format as MOD files. Unfortunately, Adobe Premiere doesnt work with these files. I needed software to convert MOD files to QuickTime or mpeg files.
