• Oracle Communications Calendar Server: Upgrading to Version 7 Update 3

  It's been some time since I have posted an entry. Now, with the release of Oracle Communications Calendar Server 7 Update 3, it seems high time to jump start this blog again. To begin with, check out what's new in this release: Authenticating Against an External Directory Booking Window for Calendars Changes to the davadmin Command Enable and Disable Account Autocreation LDAP Pools New Configuration Parameters New Languages New populate-davuniqueid Utility New Schema Objects Non-active Calendar Accounts Are No Longer Searched or Fetched Remote Document Store Authentication The upgrade is a bit more complicated than normal, as you must first apply some new schema elements to your Directory Server(s). To do so, you need to get the comm_dssetup 6.4 patch, patch the comm_dssetup script, and then run the patched comm_dssetup against your Directory Server(s) instances. In addition, if you are using the nsUniqueId attribute as your deployment's unique identifier, you'll want to change that to the new davUniqueId attribute. Consult the Upgrade Procedure for details, as well as DaBrain's blog, before forging ahead with this upgrade.   You've put [HandleError] on your controller and you've set <customErrors mode="On"> in the web.config file. So why do you still see the yellow screen of death? I've heard various wrong explanations for this phenomena, including "it only works under IIS" and "it only works in release mode". • XML/XSL Module 04.03.05 is now officially released.

  XML/XSL Module 04.03.05 is a maintenance release. Download is available from Codeplex. Changes were required to fix issues caused by conflicts with a new namespace in DotNetNuke 5.3. as the XML module did not use fully qualified namespaces everywhere. Please upgrade to XML 4.3.5 before upgrading your DNN version to 5.3.1 and above. • How to make the switch to C++11?

  I've been programming in C++ for a while now, but mostly thinks centered around the low-level features of C++. By that I mean mostly working with pointers and raw arrays. I think this behavior is known as using C++ as C with classes despite me only having tried C recently for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised how languages like C# and Java hide these details away in convenient standard library classes like Dictionaries and Lists. I'm aware that the C++ standard library has many convenience containers like vectors, maps and strings as well and C++11 only adds to this by having std:: array and ranged loops. How do I best learn to make use of these modern language features and which are suitable for which moments? Is it correct that software engineering in C++ nowadays I'd mostly free of manual memory management? Lastly, which compiler should I use to make the most of the new standard? Visual Studio has excellent debugging tools, but even VS2012 seems to have terrible C++11 support.

• GeoToolkit Demo Embedded in an Application Framework via Maven

  As a follow on to yesterday's blog entry, here's the equivalent starter application for GeoToolkit (also known as Geotk) on the NetBeans Platform, which ends up looking like this: The above is a border.shp file I found on-line, while here's a USA states shape file rendered in the application: Note that the navigation bar is also included, though that could later be migrated into the menu bar of the NetBeans Platform.  Download the Maven based NetBeans Platform application with GeoToolkit integration here: http://java.net/projects/nb-api-samples/sources/api-samples/show/versions/7.3/tutorials/geospatial/geotoolkit/MyGeospatialSystem It was quite tricky getting this sample together, parts of it, especially the installer, which creates the database, comes from the Puzzle GIS project, while the files come from on-line locations, with the JAI-related dependencies providing problems of their own.   Now that the Q1 2010 release is here, I want to bring your attention to a cool new feature in our RadCaptcha control for ASP.NET AJAX - audio support. Head on over to our online demos to see the feature in action. Enabling this on an existing CAPTCHA is easy - you just need to set the CaptchaImage-EnableCaptchaAudio property to true. Adding this feature to your site will allow blind or partially sighted people to use it as well. The audio support presents some very interesting possibilities for people who like to customize things.   I have a nice open-source library in mind to write. It would take a few months to develop properly and I would need to stop supporting myself though other projects. Could anybody share experiences and best-known-methods to get some sort of financial support through the Internet whilst developing free, open-source code? Or, phrased more directly: which systems apart from "PayPal" are in use by programmers to get donations for open-source code? Provide a list. Optionally, sort the list as if it were a recommendation in descending order of positive experiences made with each system. Optionally, share a tidbit of your success story getting this kind of financial support. Optionally: give an indication as to how much money can be made that way? (I heard Vim's author could support himself just with donations at some point?)
