• Insert set of fields/document properties automatically

  I'm fairly new to Word 2007. (Coming more from a Linux/text editor background.) Each time I create a document within Word 2007, I add a set of details to the start of the document. It's the same set of details each time -- Author, Date Created, Date Last Modified, and Status, formatted in the same way each time. I include these bits of information either by inserting Fields (Insert -> Quick Parts -> Insert Field) or Document Properties (Insert -> Quick Parts -> Document Properties -> ...). I'm just wondering how I would go about setting up a macro or a template or something along those lines to insert this information automatically, either by a keypress in an existing document, or each time I start a new document.

• DPM 2010 PowerShell Script to Easily Restore Multiple Files

  I’ve got what I thought would be a simple task with Data Protection Manager 2010 that is turning out to be quite frustrating. I have a file server on one server and it is the only server in a protection group. This file server is the repository for a document management application which stores the files according to the data within a SQL database. Sometimes users inadvertently delete files from within our application and we need to restore them. We have all the information needed to restore the files to include the file name, the folder that the file was stored in and the exact date that the file was deleted. It is easy for me to restore the file from within the DPM console since we have a recovery point created every day, I simply go to the day before the delete, browse to the proper folder and restore the file. The problem is that using the DPM console, the cumbersome wizard requires about 20 mouse clicks to restore a single file and it takes 2-4 minutes to get through all the windows. This becomes very irritating when a client needs 100’s of files restored… it takes all day of redundant mouse clicks to restore the files. Therefore, I want to use a PowerShell script (and I’m a novice at PowerShell) to automate this process. I want to be able to create a script that I pass in a file name, a folder, a recovery point date (and a protection group/server name if needed) and simply have the file restored back to its original location with some sort of success/failure notification. I thought it was a simple basic task of a backup solution, but I am having a heck of a time finding the right code. I have seen the sample code at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/how-to-use-a-windows-powershell-script-to-recover-an-item-in-data-protection-manager.aspx that I have tried to follow, but it doesn’t accomplish what I really want to do (it’s too simplistic) and there are errors in the sample code. Therefore, I would like to get some help writing a script to restore these files. An example of the known values to restore the data are: DPM Server: BACKUP01 Protection Group: Document Repository Data Protected Server: FILER01 File Path: R:\DocumentRepository\ToBackup\ClientName\Repository\2010\07\24\filename.pdf Date Deleted: 8/2/2010 (last recovery point = 8/1/2010) Bonus Points: If you can help me not only create this script, but also show me how to automate by providing a text file with the above information that the PowerShell script loops through, or even better, is able to query our SQL server for the needed data, then I would be more than willing to pay for this development.

  I am trying to get my server to be able to send email from PHP. • Thunderbird 3: can't change column width?

  I recently installed Thunderbird 3.0.3. Just noticed a suboptimal UI setting: in the upper pane, which lists the e-mails in the current folder, the Date column is about 200px wide. So when I keep the window at 480x600, all I see in a row is: | tree icon | favourites icon | attachment icon | read icon | junk icon | Date and time, followed by 5cm whitespace | ... | P Where "P" is the first letter of the name of the sender. And the "..." is actually shown this way, I have no idea which column it is meant to be. But I don't see neither the sender, nor the message subject, which makes scrolling a folder for a certain mail rather pointless. I see these when I maximize the window, actually the columns are then not only bigger, they are arranged in another sequence. But I feel that holding a mail client permanently maximised at 1600x1200 is a waste of screen real estate. My naive solution attempt was to try to go with the mouse cursor to the right edge of the date column and try to shrink it by moving the cursor left while holding down the left mouse button. Not only is this default behaviour for all resizable columns I've ever encountered in GUIs, the cursor actually turns into a horizontal double-headed arrow. But pulling has no effect at all. I cannot make a wide column narrow, and I cannot make the narrow columns wide. I didn't find anything in the preferences either. So can please somebody explain how to get the columns arranged sensibly? Edit: I found out that I only have the problem when I drag the Thunderbird window to a GridMove screen area. It gets automatically resized, but doesn't notice the resize event or something, so the column width remains the same as under a maximized window. First making the window narrow using the mouse helps with column width, but the width of the mail pane is still too wide (rows don't reflow). Anyway, this seems to be a bug caused by the combination of the two applications and not a configuration problem, so I guess I'll have to live with it.

• FTP script download from linux to windows

  I'm using following FTP script on windows xp to download zip files from ubuntu cloud servers. A zip file is created every day on ubutnu servers and I will download it to windows via this ftp script. I run this script everyday manually as I have to edit the last line(mget /usr/backup_02-11-2010.Zip) of the script to match today's date. I want to edit this script so that it will download only today's zip file at the scheduled time without needing to edit it everyday, when scheduled. It's clear that date is appended to the zip files and is in the format dd-mm-yyyy. • How can I accurately determine the age of a hard drive?

  Yes, if it's large, heavy, and only 65 Meg in capacity, you can assume it's ancient. An RLL controller would positively indicate the drive is from antiquity. What about drives that are only 3 or 4 years old? If I know the serial number, make and model is there a public database that indicates a manufacturing date? Update: As trite as this question might seem to some, the hard drive I was looking at that precipitated this question had no obvious manufacturing date stamped on it. I realize that most do. I think the answers given are very useful to myself and others.

  Hi, I'm not an expert in writing shell scripts but also I'm looking for a very specific solution. OS: CentOS release 5.2 (Final) I've a Java standalone which keeps writing (all System.out.println) to a log file. For some unknown reason, this Java standalone stops working at some point of time in my server and eventually logs writing also stops working. I want to have a script which checks the last modified date & time of the log file with current date & time in the server. If the time difference exceeds more than 5 minutes, I want to send an email immediately to my recipients list. This way I'll come to know when this Java standalone has stopped working. I'll move this script to crontab and make it run for every 1 minute, so that this whole process is automated. Log file location: /usr/local/logs/standalone.log

  In a workbook I have 7 sheets(Totals and then Mon to Sat),I want to extract rows which have the word "CHEQ" in its cell (this is a dropdown list with two options-CHEQ/PAID)from all sheets. On my front sheet I used this formula: =IF(ROWS(A$13:A13)>$C$10,"",INDEX(Monday!A$3:A$62,SMALL(IF(Monday[Paid]=$A$10,ROW(Monday[Paid])-ROW(Monday!$I$3)+1),ROWS(A$13:A13)))) This formula works fine for one worksheet (eg. Monday) but is it possible to show the extracted rows from all 6 sheets on the front page? I only have Excel NOT Access. • Is it possible to have non-English regional settings with English day/month names?

  I live in Estonia where most regional settings (number, currency and date formats) differ from those used in English-speaking countries. For instance, decimal symbol is comma, thousands separator is space, date format is day-month-year, etc. However, if I set my regional settings to Estonian, then day and month names are also shown in Estonian everywhere: This is slightly annoying since the language used for the rest of Windows is English and I'd like the day and month names to be consistent with it. Is this possible while still keeping the local regional settings? One workaround I've tried is to set regional settings to, say, English (UK) and then customise them to match Estonian settings, but that messes up alphabetic sorting - accented letters like "ö" and "ä" are no longer distinguished from their non-accented versions, and "z" is sorted as last rather than at its correct position in the Estonian alphabet (between "s" and "t"). OS is Windows 7 Professional, in case that matters. Edit: alternatively, if there's no built-in way to accomplish what I want, is it possible to create a custom set of regional settings (like one can create custom keyboard layouts)?

  I would like to achieve rotation of nginx logs that: would work without any extra software (i.e. - best if without "logrotate") would create rotated files with names based on date Best approach is something like PostgreSQL has - i.e. in it's log_filename config variable I can specify strftime-style %Y-%m-%d, and it will automatically change log on date (or time) change. Another approach from apache - sending logs via pipe to rotatelogs program. As far as I was able to search - no such approach exists. All I can do, is to use logrotate with dateext option, but it has it's own set of drawbacks, and I'd rather use something that works like |rotatelogs or log_filename in PostgreSQL.

  We are going to be implementing personal archives for Exchange in our organization. For us to get a good grasp on how much space is needed, we need to get an idea of the age of items that we currently have. Is it possible to have a powershell script that tells me the total size and number of items given certain date ranges of all mailboxes in all databases? What I'd like to have is the 1) number of items, 2) total size of times (GB) - all grouped by date ranges (Less than 15 days, 15-30 days, 30-60 days, 60-90 days, more than 90). Another possibility would be to have it also grouped by mailbox database

I have managed making it work for Yahoo Mail and Hotmail, sadly GMail is still marking our mails as spam. • Preventing logrotate's dateext from overwriting files

  I'm working with a system where I would like to use the dateext function of logrotate (or some other way) to add the date to a logfile when it is rotated. However in this system it is important that no logging is missing and dateext will overwrite any existing files (which will happen if logrotate is called twice on a day). Is there a reliable way to prevent dateext to overwrite existing files, but instead make another file?. It is acceptable that either no rotate happens or a file is created with a less predictable name (date with an extra number, or the time or something).

• How can I make Picasa see changes I make to photos using jhead?

  Last fall I forgot to set the time on my camera back an hour. I used jhead to change the time in the EXIF data: jhead -ta-1 IMG_1177.JPG but Picasa didn't notice. OS is Windows XP. If I right-click the picture in Picasa and choose Properties, in the top section of the dialog it shows "Date: 3/6/2010 11:22:54 AM" but in the Property|Value section it shows "Camera Date | 2010:03:06 10:22:54". I tried using "Refresh thumbnails" but that didn't help. Picasa notices other changes, like if I edit the photo in the Gimp or change the filename, but for some reason it doesn't notice this change.

I assume that i don't understand how submitting/writing a message(from user to gmail servers) works, in order to be sent later to the other email address.   I have a energy spreadsheet for multiple sites. the first row has month and year. the next row has columns for date invoice received, KW hours and cost. So there are three columns for each month. I have merged the month cell across the three columns. When i create a pivot table the date kw/h and costs are labled date1, date2, etc. Can I link the months headings to the subheadings to get meaningful headings in the pivot table????

• How to ask Debian not to check last mount time of its file system?

  I'm using Debian 6.0.5. To test a feature of my product, I need to modify the system date&time back and forth frequently. Once a time I set the system date back to one month ago, then I reboot the system, and it reported the last mount time of the file system is in the future and enter the maintenance mode automatically. I had to run the fsck to make sure the file system is not broken to boot into Debian. Is there any way to ask Debian stop checking the last mount time of its file system when booting? Thanks.

  I have a SQL table containing date oriented financial data eg. multiple daily records with fields for Date, Account code and Value. I want to set up dynamic links (formulas) from cells in an Excel speadsheet to this data so when the spreadsheet is loaded the data is fetched from all the relevant records. The spreadsheet has the Account codes on the x axis and Dates on the y. Each day the SQL table has new data in it for the new day and I want the spreadsheet to reference this new data for the column for the new day. Any ideas? I have seen how you can generally bring in data from a SQL table (in our case using ODBC as it is not MS SQL) but the data is not simply bringing in multiple records as you would a CVS file but specific records in the SQL table referencing to specific cells and columns in the spreadsheet.

  The idea is simple, I'd like a function I could do something like =MOD_DATE_OF(A1:A4) and when any of the cells in such range is modified, the cell I assigned that formula gets the current date. I have found some similar questions on the web and even here, but none of them quite it.   I run 8-10 EC2 based web servers, so my experience is many hours, but is limited to CentOS; specifically Amazon's distribution. I'm installing Apache using yum, so therefore getting Amazon's default compilation of Apache. I want to implement canonical redirects from non-www (bare/root) domain to www.domain.com for SEO using mod_rewrite BUT MY .htaccess FILE IS CONSISTENTLY IGNORED. My troubleshooting steps (outlined below) lead me to believe it's something specific to Amazon's build of Apache. As expected, it created an Error log entry: [Wed Jun 19 02:24:19 2013] [alert] [client XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX] /var/www/html/.htaccess: Invalid command 'BLAH BLAH BLAH ERROR', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration Since I have root access on the server, I then tried moving my rewrite rule directly to the httpd.conf file. THIS WORKED. This tells us several important things are working. $ curl -I domain.com HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2013 12:36:22 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.24 (Amazon) Location: http://www.domain.com/ Connection: close Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 HOWEVER, it is bothering me that it didn't work in the .htaccess file. • Why am I unable to send an attachment with Outlook via SMTP that I am able to send via Gmail / Google Apps?

  I have Google Apps installed and I have tried to set up Outlook 2007 to send messages via SMTP. I followed the guide, selecting what I believe are all the correct settings. Yes, I am using POP for incoming, that is intentional but I don't believe it should affect outgoing messages. When I log into gmail (google apps) for my company, I can send a message that has an 8MB attachment (pdf file, not zipped or anything) and it sends fine. However, when I send the same message in Outlook with that same 8mb attachment it fails. Why am I unable to send an attachment with Outlook via SMTP that I am able to send via Gmail / Google Apps? The message headers are (some info omitted for privacy): Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error.
