Spreadsheet application that can handle big data OS X

I've been working with Excel for quite a while for some statistical analysis that I do regularly. The size of the data that I'm working with has gotten much larger as of late, however. The layout of the databases in question is quite simple, usually just three rows which includes a UNIX timestamp, and EST value, a proprietary numeric value and finally an average of the rows that have a timestamp +/- 1000 that row's timestamp (little AVERAGEIFS() formula). That formula and the EST conversion are the only formulas in the sheet. I'm beginning to work with files with 500,000+ rows. Running the average formula down the entire row takes forever. The end result is the production of print-worthy graphs. I'm looking for either a UNIX CL utility or separate spreadsheet/database application that can handle this amount of data without melting my CPU or making me wait an hour. Is there anything out there? TL;DR: Simple excel sheet with over half a million rows is getting too slow to work with. OS X alternatives?

Can't get php+sqlite working

Hi, everyone I'm struggling all morning to make php work with an sqlite database. Here is a piece of php code that I try to execute: #less /var/www/html/test.php <?php $db=new PDO("sqlite:/var/www/test.sql"); $sql = "insert into test (login,pass) values ('login','pass');"; $db->exec($sql); ?> Here is how I've done tests: # sqlite3 /var/www/test.sql sqlite> create table test (login varchar,pass varchar); #chown apache:apache /var/www/test.sql #chmod 644 /var/www/test.sql Here is the stuff that drives me mad: When I execute from command line: #php test.php everything goes well. Sql is being executed and I can see a new row appear in the database. When I execute the same script from a browser - sql is not being executed. I don't get a new row in the database. There are no errors in the apache log file. Please, help

mysqldump --where with = operator doesn't get all rows = - Help!

I have a situation with a particular table that now thinks it contains 4 Petabytes of data. I know that sounds cool, but I assure you, it is only on a 60GB partition. This table has 9 fields in it. One of them is a domain_id field. It is the best field to identify the rows by, as there are only approximately 6300 of them. The only other field option to match has over 2million records, and thats just more difficult. I cannot do a straight mysqldump because it will attempt to output all 4PB of data and fill the drive long before it gets close to that, so I need to surgically remove the good stuff, destroy the db, and recreate it. I believe if I can do a dump for each domain_id record, then I will get most of the usable data out of it. This is what I am trying to use: mysqldump -u root --skip-opt -q --no-create-info --skip-add-drop-table --max_allowed_packet=1000000000 database table --where="domain_id=10" domains10.sql Using this I expect every row with the domain_id 10 to be exported. However, when I check the export, I am only getting 1 row, when however I look at the db, there are many many rows. It is as though the operator just finds one, then gives up. I have tried various operators. Using the < or I am able to get more of the data, but the export stops short at certain rows where the data has been compromised. With over 6000 to go through, I can't narrow down which rows are being affected in the export easily enough. So, what I need is an operator that will basically do what I thought = would do, simply give me an export of all records that match the specific field. Also note, the only way I got this DB even accessible is through an innodb force recovery 3. So I need to get this right, because after this is done, I have to drop the db in order to make mysql functional again. Looking forward to any helpful answers.

Touchpad scroll slow and jumpy

I have a laptop with a synaptics touchpad running on win7 x64. When i use the scrolling region of the touchpad in some applications, for example in Visual Studio 2008, Notepad and Windows Media Player 12, the scroll is very slow. If i pull the edge of the touchpad slowly the program will scroll one row at a time(regardless of the number of lines-settings in the mouse configuration). If i pull the edge quickly though, the program will instantly jump like 20 rows making it way too fast. In some applications, like Firefox, the scrolling work as expected. Changing the scrollspeed-setting for the touchpad does not help. If you make it slower it doesn't do the 20-row jump but then it's horribly slow and if you try to make it faster it will do the jumps all the time. I have tried both synaptics generic drivers and the "special" drivers that HP provides but they both have the same problem (except that the generic one can't adjust the scrolling speed, even though that didn't help anyway). With windows generic drivers the scrolling region doesn't even work. Other mice i've tried with scrollwheel work as they should do.

I guess 0x00000000-0x7FFFFFFF is indeed mapped to the first memory module, and 0x80000000-0xDFFFFFFF to part of the second memory module (a bunch of ACPI NVS things live between 0xDEE7C000 and 0xDEF30FFF, and the remaining 16-something MiB of that range are just 'reserved'). I guess the highest 0x18000000 bytes of the second memory module are mapped above the 4 GiB mark. But even then, there are two problems: 128 MiB (0x08000000 bytes, living somewhere between 0xE0000000 and 0xFFFFFFFF) are still completely unaccounted for. To note, my graphics card is on PCI-Express and (allegedly) has 1 GiB dedicated memory, so that shouldn't be the culprit. Did the BIOS screw up in moving the memory, leaving it partially shadowed by MMIO? Even with this mediocre explanation, I only 'found' 128 MiB. But /proc/meminfo is reporting a much larger deficit; where's the other 146 MiB? How does Linux count MemTotal?

Linux Has Become Very Slow Dealing With Large Data

Last year I bought a computer, for around $1,800, so it is relatively high-end. When I first got it I was particularly pleased at how quick it dealt with large MySQL queries, imports and exports. But somewhere along the way something has gone wrong and I am not sure how to diagnose the problem. Any job that involves processing large amounts of data, e.g. gzipping file c. 1GB+, UPDATEs on large MySQL tables etc. have become very slow. I just performed an intensive alter statement on a 240,000,000 row table on a remote server, which is lower spec. This took about 10 minutes. However, performing the same query on a 167,000,000 row table on my computer went fine until it hit 860MB. Now it is only writing about 1MB every 15 seconds. Does anyone have any advice as to debugging what the issue is? I am using LinuxMint (based on Ubuntu 12.04.) The home partition is encrypted, which really slows down gzip. I have noticed the swap is barely used, but am not sure if that is because there is more than enough RAM. The filesystem is ext4. The MySQL server is on a separate hard drive, but it was fine when I first installed it. Other than the above issues, there are no other problems with it. I am going to install a fresh Ubuntu on the 4th hard drive to see if that is any different.

Compare cells in two different spreadsheets and extract data from one an place it in the other if match found

I need to find a way to compare two spreadsheets and if there is a match on specific cells, pull data from one sheet to another. Say the two spreadsheets contain a value that identifies a piece of equipment: spreadsheet 1 spreadsheet 2 Server Server Serial # 123abc 123abc 123-xx-456 There are of course many, many records/rows in each sheet. I need to look at the first cell in the server column of sheet 1 and then search a range of cells in the sever column of sheet 2 for a match. If there is a match, I need to pull the serial # value from the cell in the matching row an put it into the serial # cell of the matching row in sheet 1 (all of the "serial #" cells in sheet 1 are presently empty.) If that description explaination is too convoluted I can explain by answering any questions you may have. My deadline for this task is Noon tomorrow, 30 Aug 2012. Yes, I got the task today at noon.... I am not an Excel user and just get thrust into it on occassion... Any help would be a huge assist.

Could anyone advice on how do I improve the performance of the following query. Note, the problem seems to be caused by where clause. Converting a WPFToolkit DataGrid from 1D list to 2D matrix

Hello - I am wondering if anyone has attempted the following or has an idea as to how to do it. I have a WPFToolkit DataGrid which is bound to an ObservableCollection of items. As such, the DataGrid is shown with as many rows in the ObservableCollection, and as many columns as I have defined in for the DataGrid. That all is good. What I now need is to provide another view of the same data, only, instead, the DataGrid is shown with as many cells in the ObservableCollection. So let's say, my ObservableCollection has 100 items in it. The original scenario showed the DataGrid with 100 rows and 1 column. In the modified scenario, I need to show it with 10 rows and 10 columns, where each cell shows the value that was in the original representation. In other words, I need to transform my 1D ObservableCollection to a 2D ObservableCollection and display it in the DataGrid. I know how to do that programmatically in the code behind, but can it be done in XAML? Let me simplify the problem a little, in case anybody can have a crack at this. The XAML below does the following: * Defines an XmlDataProvider just for dummy data * Creates a DataGrid with 10 columns o each column is a DataGridTemplateColumn using the same CellTemplate * The CellTemplate is a simple TextBlock bound to an XML element If you run the XAML below, you will find that the DataGrid ends up with 5 rows, one for each book, and 10 columns that have identical content (all showing the book titles). However, what I am trying to accomplish, albeit with a different data set, is that in this case, I would end up with one row, with each book title appearing in a single cell in row 1, occupying cells 0-4, and nothing in cells 5-9. Then, if I added more data and had 12 books in my XML data source, I would get row 1 completely filled (cells covering the first 10 titles) and row 2 would get the first 2 cells filled. Can my scenario be accomplished primarily in XAML, or should I resign myself to working in the code behind? Any guidance would greatly be appreciated. UITableView not displaying parsed data

I have a UITableView which is setup in Interface Builder and connected properly to its class in Xcode. I also have a "Importer" Class which downloads and parses an RSS feed and stores the information in an NSMutableArray. However I have verified the parsing is working properly (using breakpoints and NSlog) but no data is showing in the UITable View. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? I'm almost out of them. It's based on the XML performance Apple example. If you go back to directory root and click on the link to the file the grid table is displayed, if you hit 'refresh' button -- the script runs but the table is not injected. Secondly, although the table HTML is injected in IE, it does not display it. I tried adding nbsp's to make sure its not ignored -- to no avail. I am trying to create a login page that will send the user to a different index.php page based on their login credentials. For example, should a user with the "IT Technician" role log in, they will be sent to "index.php", and if a user with the "Student" role log in, they will be sent to the "student/index.php" page. I can't see what's wrong with my code, but it's not working... I'm getting the "wrong login credentials" message every time I press the login button. Rendering a random generated maze in WinForms.NET

Hi I'm trying to create a maze-generator, and for this I have implemented the Randomized Prim's Algorithm in C#. However, the result of the generation is invalid. I can't figure out if it's my rendering, or the implementation that's invalid. How to configure a GridView CommandField to trigger Full Page Update in UpdatePanel

I have 2 user controls on my page. One is used for searching, and the other is used for editing (along with a few other things). The user control that provides the search functionality uses a GridView to display the search results. This GridView has a CommandField used for editing (showEditButton="true"). I would like to place the GridView into an UpdatePanel so that paging through the search results will be smooth. The thing is that when the user clicks the Edit Link (the CommandField) I need to preform a full page postback so that the search user control can be hidden and the edit user control can be displayed. Edit: the reason I need to do a full page postback is because the edit user control is outside of the UpdatePanel that my GridView is in. It is not only outside the UpdatePanel, but it's in a completely different user control. I have no idea how to add the CommandField as a full page postback trigger to the UpdatePanel. The PostBackTrigger (which is used to indicate the controls cause a full page postback) takes a ControlID as a parameter; however the CommandButton does not have an ID...and you can see why I'm having a problem with this. Update on what else I've tried to solve the problem: I took a new approach to solving the problem. In my new approach, I used a TemplateField instead of a CommandField. I placed a LinkButton control in the TemplateField and gave it a name. During the GridView's RowDataBound event I retrieved the LinkButton control and added it to the UpdatePanel's Triggers. This is the ASP Markup for the UpdatePanel and the GridView <asp:UpdatePanel ID="SearchResultsUpdateSection" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:GridView ID="SearchResultsGrid" runat="server" AllowPaging="true" AutoGenerateColumns="false"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField> <HeaderTemplate></HeaderTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <asp:LinkButton ID="Edit" runat="server" Text="Edit"></asp:LinkButton> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:BoundField ...... </Columns> </asp:GridView> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> In my VB.NET code. I implemented a function that handles the GridView's RowDataBound event. In this method I find the LinkButton for the row being bound to, create a PostBackTrigger for the LinkButton, and add it to the UpdatePanel's Triggers. This means that a PostBackTrigger is created for every "edit" LinkButton in the GridView Edit: this did not create a PostBackTrigger for Every "edit" LinkButton because the ID is the same for all LinkButtons in the GridView. After reading the MSDN article on the UpdatePanel.Triggers Property I have the impression that Triggers can only be defined declaratively. VFP Unit Matrix Multiply problem on the iPhone

Hi. I'm trying to write a Matrix3x3 multiply using the Vector Floating Point on the iPhone, however i'm encountering some problems. This is my first attempt at writing any ARM assembly, so it could be a faily simple solution that i'm not seeing. I've currently got a small application running using a maths library that i've written. I'm investigating into the benifits using the Vector Floating Point Unit would provide so i've taken my matrix multiply and converted it to asm. Previously the application would run without a problem, however now my objects will all randomly disappear. This seems to be caused by the results from my matrix multiply becoming NAN at some point. While debugging i've managed to notice that if i were to say _A = C prior to the return and after the ASM, _A will not necessarily be equal to C which has only increased my confusion. I had thought it was possibly due to the pointers I'm giving to the VFPU being incrimented by lines such as "fldmias %0!, {s0-s2} \n\t" however my understanding of asm is not good enough to properly understand the problem, nor to see an alternative approach to that line of code. Anyway, I was hoping someone with a greater understanding than me would be able to see a solution, and any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you :-)

A word search, as defined by Wikipedia, is: A word search, word find, word seek, word sleuth or mystery word puzzle is a word game that is letters of a word in a grid, that usually has a rectangular or square shape. The objective of this puzzle is to find and mark all the words hidden inside the box. The words may be horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
