  • How to localize an app on Google App Engine?

    - by Petri Pennanen
What options are there for localizing an app on Google App Engine? How do you do it using Webapp, Django, web2py or [insert framework here]. 1. Readable URLs and entity key names Readable URLs are good for usability and search engine optimization (Stack Overflow is a good example on how to do it). On Google App Engine, key based queries are recommended for performance reasons. It follows that it is good practice to use the entity key name in the URL, so that the entity can be fetched from the datastore as quickly as possible. Currently I use the function below to create key names: import re import unicodedata def urlify(unicode_string): """Translates latin1 unicode strings to url friendly ASCII. Converts accented latin1 characters to their non-accented ASCII counterparts, converts to lowercase, converts spaces to hyphens and removes all characters that are not alphanumeric ASCII. Arguments unicode_string: Unicode encoded string. Returns String consisting of alphanumeric (ASCII) characters and hyphens. """ str = unicodedata.normalize('NFKD', unicode_string).encode('ASCII', 'ignore') str = re.sub('[^\w\s-]', '', str).strip().lower() return re.sub('[-\s]+', '-', str) This works fine for English and Swedish, however it will fail for non-western scripts and remove letters from some western ones (like Norwegian and Danish with their œ and ø). Can anyone suggest a method that works with more languages? 2. Translating templates Does Django internationalization and localization work on Google App Engine? Are there any extra steps that must be performed? Is it possible to use Django i18n and l10n for Django templates while using Webapp? The Jinja2 template language provides integration with Babel. How well does this work, in your experience? What options are avilable for your chosen template language? 3. Translated datastore content When serving content from (or storing it to) the datastore: Is there a better way than getting the *accept_language* parameter from the HTTP request and matching this with a language property that you have set with each entity?

  • Normalizing (webdav) unicode paths

    - by Evert
Hi guys, I'm working on a WebDAV implementation for PHP. In order to make it easier for Windows and other operating systems to work together, I need jump through some character encoding hoops. Windows uses ISO-8859-1 in it's HTTP request, while most other clients encode anything beyond ascii as UTF-8. My first approach was to ignore this altogether, but I quickly ran into issues when returning urls. I then figured it's probably best to normalize all urls. Using u¨ as an example. This will get sent over the wire by OS/X as u%CC%88 (this is codepoint U+0308) Windows sents this as: %FC (latin1) But, doing a utf8_encode on %FC, I get : %C3%BC (this is codepoint U+00FC) Should I treat %C3%BC and u%CC%88 as the same thing? If so.. how? Not touching it seems to work OK for windows. It somehow understands that it's a unicode character, but updating the same file throws an error (for no particular reason). I'd be happy to provide more information.

  • How many javascript link I can have in Facebook?

    - by Murvinlai
Is there a limit of how many js file I can include () in facebook? I include 5 files. no problem.. the 6th one not loaded. Then I have to put the code in the 6th one into the 5th file. then works. so, is it 5 files in max? BY THE WAY, I'm developing the apps now, not in production. so it is not in the stage of compressing JS / minizing it. :) so it is kinda annoying to got missing js files or files not loaded..etc so, what is the limit from FB? what is the file size limit? I know that the JSON request call back data limit is 5000.. but not sure about the js include.

  • Can a CouchDB document update handler get an update conflict?

    - by jhs
How likely is a revision conflict when using an update handler? Should I concern myself with conflict-handling code when writing a robust update function? As described in Document Update Handlers, CouchDB 0.10 and later allows on-demand server-side document modification. Update handlers can process non-JSON formats; but the other major features are these: An HTTP front-end to arbitrarily complex document modification code Similar code needn't be written for all possible clients—a DRY architecture Execution is faster and less likely to hit a revision conflict I am unclear about the third point. Executing locally, the update handler will run much faster and with lower latency. But in situations with high contention, that does not guarantee a successful update. Or does the update handler guarantee a successful update?

  • Where do I subclass SC.Record?

    - by Jake
I'm using SproutCore and going through the Todos tutorial on http://wiki.sproutcore.com/Todos+06-Building+with+Rails. SproutCore and Rails use different names for the primary key on a model (Sproutcore = 'guid', Rails = 'id'). The tutorial gives directions to Adjust Rails JSON output, but in my app that I'm planning on building, I cannot do this because sproutcore is only one of a couple interfaces used to interact with the Rails app. As an alternate option, the tutorial gives the following directions: Option 2: Set primaryKey in your Sproutcore model class You can subclass SC.Record and set the primaryKey of your sublcass to "id". Your Todo- Object then needs to extend from e.g. App.Rails.Record. App.Rails.Record = SC.Record.extend({ primaryKey : "id" // Extend your records from App.Rails.Record instead of SC.Record. }); Where should I subclass SC.Record (i.e. in what file) such that it is properly read and included?

  • Framework for Implementing REST web service in Django

    - by Laizer
I'm looking to implement a RESTful interface for a Django application. It is primarily a data-service application - the interface will be (at this point) read-only. The question is which Django toolsets / frameworks make the most sense for this task. I see Django-rest and Django-piston. There's also the option of rolling my own. The question was asked here, but a good two years back. I'd like to know what the current state of play is. In this question, circa 2008, the strong majority vote was to not use any framework at all - just create Django views that reply with e.g. JSON. (The question was also addressed, crica 2008, here.) In the current landscape, what makes the most sense?

  • dbpedia auto-suggest labels

    - by Sid
Wikipedia has a auto-suggest feature on its search field. If you for instance type in "mars" it lists a few items including Mars, Marseille, Marsh. I am looking to implement something similar working off the latest DBpedia export (wikipedia in database form). If I do a search for all labels in the labels_en.nt file that DBpedia offer that begin with "mars" then, even if I remove ones that redirect on to others that are listed, I end up with a huge list. In trying to understand how wikipedia does this I noticed that I'm actually querying this URL which returns a JSON string. Now my problem is that I don't know how wikipedia narrows the list down. Perhaps it does so based on page popularity. The higher views/edits a page has the higher it goes in this suggestion box. If so, does DBpedia export this information?

  • Interacting with RESTful API's via Javascript?

    - by Alex
Hi there, to start off, I know C++, C#, Python, some Ruby, and basic Javascript. Anyway, my question revolves around how to interact with RESTful API's via Javascript. I haven't been able to find any good examples on various websites, and so I've come here. So my basic question is: How do I interact with RESTful API's via JS? And where can I find out how to implement OAuth in JS? I know how to get my keys and such, just not how to actually code them in. Below is an example of a twitter API status update run from my MAC terminal with curl: curl -u username:password -d "my tweet" http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/update.json How can I implement this in Javascript (preferably with OAuth authentication)? This would at least start me going in the right direction. Thanks so much!!

  • JS Anonymous Scope...

    - by Simon
this Application.EventManager.on('Click', function(args) { // event listener, args is JSON TestAction.getContents(args.node.id, function(result, e) { console.log(result); this.add({ title: args.node.id, html: result }).show(); }); }); I'm really struggling with scope and anonymous functions... I want this (on the 1st line) to be the same object as this (on the 5th line)... .call() and .apply() seemed to be the right sort of idea but I don't want to trigger the event... just change it's scope.... For a bit of contexts... the this in question is a TabContainer and TestAction is a RPC that returns content... Thanks....

  • ASP.Net MVC Toggling IsAjaxRequest property based on file upload?

    - by Jon
I have a form all setup to upload a file and that is working fine. However the way my form is submitted is through AJAX. The button that submits is still a type="submit" in case JS is off. When I save my form the controller determines whether the IsAjaxRequest is true and if so returns some JSON otherwise it does a RedirectToAction. When I don't specify a filepath in my input type="file" it considers IsAjaxRequest as true. If there is a filepath set then it thinks that IsAjaxRequest is false. How is it determining that? My other problem is that when it thinks IsAjaxRequest is false and does a RedirectToAction("Index") I don't actually get sent to the Index view. Thanks

  • Building URL or link in REST ASP.NET MVC

    - by AWC
I want to build a URL at runtime when a resource is render to either XML or JSON. I can do this easily when the view is HTML and is rendering only parts of the resource, but when I render a resource that contains a links to another resource I want to dynamically generate the correct URL according the host (site) and resource specific URI part. <components> <component id = "1234" name = "component A" version = "1.0"> <link rel = "/component" uri="http://localhost:8080/component/1234" /> </component> <components> How do I make sure the 'uri' value is correct?

  • "Filtering" Cells in a UITableView. Multiple Views? Subviews?

    - by Bryan Veloso
(First question related to iPhone development, so apologies for sounding off-track.) I'm creating a view that has a few things; a UITabBarController controlling 3 UITableViews. Two of these TableViews are filtered versions of the 3rd. All of them will be making a JSON call (still working on that) to retrieve a list of objects. So, because these views are related in some way, would there be a more "sane" way to display this data? With say, subviews? Or would I have to just create 1 view for each that returns the desired data and be done with it? If it helps at all, I have full control over the API I'm talking with, so changes to that that help with this don't really matter to me too much. Thanks in advance!

  • Firefox Extension needs to get cookie from PHP redirected external page.

    - by Tyler
I am writing a firefox extension that interacts with a JSON server interface. I receive a url to the server which then redirects to the client site that provides the cookie. I need to be able to set this cookie in the users browser without physically loading it in the browser. Is this possible through an AJAX call? I tried using a hidden iframe, however firefox does not seem to like a php redirect in the iframe. My current solution is to load the site in a second tab that never gains focus and then auto close it when the cookie is set. This is very messy and would prefer something more streamlines. Any thoughts?

  • Error when pushing to Heroku - ...appear in group - Ruby on Rails

After git push heroku master, and heroku rake db:migrate I get an error saying: SELECT posts.*, count(*) as vote_total FROM "posts" INNER JOIN "votes" ON votes.post_id = posts.id GROUP BY votes.post_id ORDER BY created_at DESC LIMIT 5 OFFSET 0): I have included the full error below and also included the PostControll#index as it seems that is where I am doing the grouping. • DjangoUnicodeDecodeError while storing pickle'd data.

    - by Jack M.
I've got a simple dict object I'm trying to store in the database after it has been run through pickle. It seems that Django doesn't like trying to encode this error. I've checked with MySQL, and the query isn't even getting there before it is throwing the error, so I don't believe that is the problem. The dict I'm storing looks like this: { 'ordered': [ { 'value': u'First\xd1ame Last\xd1ame', 'label': u'Full Name' }, { 'value': u'123-456-7890', 'label': u'Phone Number' }, { 'value': u'[email protected]', 'label': u'Email Address' } ], 'cleaned_data': { u'Phone Number': u'123-456-7890', u'Full Name': u'First\xd1ame Last\xd1ame', u'Email Address': u'[email protected]' }, 'post_data': <QueryDict: { u'Phone Number': [u'1234567890'], u'Full Name_1': [u'Last\xd1ame'], u'Full Name_0': [u'First\xd1ame'], u'Email Address': [u'[email protected]'] }>, 'user': <User: itis> } The error that gets thrown is: 'utf8' codec can't decode bytes in position 52-53: invalid data. Position 52-53 is the first instance of \xd1 (Ñ) in the pickled data. So far, I've dug around StackOverflow and found a few questions where the database encoding for the objects was wrong. This doesn't help me because there is no MySQL query yet. This is happening before the database. Google also didn't help much when searching for unicode errors on pickled data. It is probably worth mentioning that if I don't use the Ñ, this code works fine.

  • Retrieve Flash file post in ASP.NET

    - by Quandary
Question: In ASP.NET, I retrieve a JPEG-file as Flash post data like this Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As HttpContext) Implements IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest context.Response.ContentType = "text/plain" ' Retrieve a bytearray from the post buffer Dim myBuffer As Byte() = context.Request.BinaryRead(Convert.ToInt32(context.Request.InputStream.Length)) System.IO.File.WriteAllBytes("c:\temp\test.jpg", myBuffer) End Sub In Flash, I send it to an asp.net handler like this var jpgSource:BitmapData = cPrint.TakeSnapshot(MovieClip(cGlobals.ccPlanZoomView)); var bmpThisBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(jpgSource); var nQuality:Number = 100; var jpgEncoder:JPGEncoder = new JPGEncoder(nQuality); var jpgStream:ByteArray = jpgEncoder.encode(jpgSource); var header:URLRequestHeader = new URLRequestHeader ("Content-type", "application/octet-stream"); // Make sure to use the correct path to jpg_encoder_download.php var strFileName:String="test.jpg"; var jpgURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://localhost/raumplaner_new/raumplaner_new/cgi-bin/SavePDF.ashx"); //var scriptVars:URLVariables = new URLVariables(); //scriptVars.fn = strFileName; //var myarr:Array= new Array(); //myarr.push(jpgStream); //scriptVars.Files = myarr; jpgURLRequest.requestHeaders.push(header); jpgURLRequest.method = URLRequestMethod.POST; //jpgURLRequest.data = scriptVars; jpgURLRequest.data = jpgStream; var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.BINARY; loader.load(jpgURLRequest); It works but I want to send a few additional variables along, via scriptVars (commented out here). How do I retrieve the JPEG file in that case ? Because if I use parameters, there is no more BinaryRead... Aspecially, how would I read an array of jpeg files (several files) ?

  • [C#] Improving method to read signed 8-bit integers from hexadecimal.

    - by JYelton
Scenario: I have a string of hexadecimal characters which encode 8-bit signed integers. Each two characters represent a byte which employ the leftmost (MSB) bit as the sign (rather than two's complement). I am converting these to signed ints within a loop and wondered if there's a better way to do it. There are too many conversions and I am sure there's a more efficient method that I am missing. Current Code: string strData = "FFC000407F"; // example input data, encodes: -127, -64, 0, 64, 127 int v; for (int x = 0; x < strData.Length/2; x++) { v = HexToInt(strData.Substring(x * 2, 2)); Console.WriteLine(v); // do stuff with v } private int HexToInt(string _hexData) { string strBinary = Convert.ToString(Convert.ToInt32(_hexData, 16), 2).PadLeft(_hexData.Length * 4, '0'); int i = Convert.ToInt32(strBinary.Substring(1, 7), 2); i = (strBinary.Substring(0, 1) == "0" ? i : -i); return i; } Question: Is there a more streamlined and direct approach to reading two hex characters and converting them to an int when they represent a signed int (-127 to 127) using the leftmost bit as the sign?

  • MD5 Hashing Given a Key in C#

    - by Jared
I've been looking for a way to hash a given string in C# that uses a predetermined key. On my adventures through the internet trying to find an example i have seen lots of MD5CryptoServiceProvider examples which seem to use a default key for the machine, but none of them that apply a specific key. I need to have a specific key to encode data as to synchronize it to someone else's server. I hand them a hashed string and an ID number and they use that analyze the data and return a similar set to me. So is there anyway to get md5 to hash via a specific key that would be consistent to both. I would prefer this to be done in C#, but if its not possible with the libraries can you do so with some web languages like php or asp? Edit: Misunderstood the scenario I was thrown into and after a little sitting and thinking about why they would have me use a key it appears they want a key appended to the end of the string and hashed. That way the server can appended the key it has along with the data passed to ensure its a valid accessing computer. Anyways... thanks all ^_^ Edit2: As my comment below says, it was the term 'salting' I was oblivious to. Oh the joys of getting thrown into something new with no directions.

  • Modify headers in Pylons using Middleware

    - by Anders
Hi all, I'm trying to modify a header using Middleware in Pylons to make my application RESTful, basically, if the user request "application/json" via GET that is what he get back. The question I have is, the variable headers is basically a long list. Looking something like this: [('Content-Type', 'text/html; charset=utf-8'), ('Pragma', 'no-cache'), ('Cache-Control', 'no-cache'), ('Content-Length','20'), ('Content-Encoding', 'gzip')] Now, I'm looking to just modify the value based on the request - but are these positions fixed? Will 'Content-Type' always be position headers[0][0]? Best Regards, Anders

As I watch the script run I can see about 10% of the calls produce "Proxy error: 502" ("Bad_Gateway"); however, the errors are not captured by my catch-all "except Exception" clause -- ie: instead of writing 'error' in the appropriate row of the "output.csv", they get passed to the else clause and produce a short piece of html that starts: "Proxy error: 502 Read from server failed: Unknown error." Also, if I collect all the URLs which returned 502s and re-run the script, they all pass, which leads me to believe that this is a sporadic network path issue. Question: Can the script be made to recognize the the 502 errors, sleep a minute, and then retry the URL instead of moving on to the next URL in the list? The only alternative that I can think of is to apply re.search("Proxy error: 502") after "get_html_source" as a way to catch the bad calls. Then, if the RE matches, put the script to sleep for a minute and then retry 'sel.open(row[0]' on the URL which produced the 502. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! #python 2.6 from selenium import selenium import unittest, time, re, csv, logging class Untitled(unittest.TestCase): def setUp(self): self.verificationErrors = [] self.selenium = selenium("localhost", 4444, "*firefox", "http://baseDomain.com") self.selenium.start() self.selenium.set_timeout("60000") def test_untitled(self): sel = self.selenium spamReader = csv.reader(open('ListOfSubDomains.csv', 'rb')) for row in spamReader: try: sel.open(row[0]) except Exception: ofile = open('output.csv', 'ab') ofile.write("error" + '\n') ofile.close() else: time.sleep(5) html = sel.get_html_source() ofile = open('output.csv', 'ab') ofile.write(html.encode('utf-8') + '\n') ofile.close() def tearDown(self): self.selenium.stop() self.assertEqual([], self.verificationErrors) if __name__ == "__main__": unittest.main()
