  Starting with a string of an unspecified length, I need to make it exactly 43 characters long (front-padded with zeroes). It is going to contain IP addresses and port numbers. Something like: ### BEFORE # Unfortunately includes ':' colon 66.35.205.123.80-137.30.123.78.52172: ### AFTER # Colon removed. # Digits padded to three (3) and five (5) # characters (for IP address and port numbers, respectively) 066.035.05.123.00080-137.030.123.078.52172 This is similar to the output produced by tcpflow. Programming in Bash. I can provide copy of script if required. If it's at all possible, it would be nice to use a bash built-in, for speed. Is printf suitable for this type of thing?

• Cannot bind to list<T>.property or list<T>.item.property in details section of Telerik report

  I have created a Telerik report and I am setting the datasource on runtime to an object with some properties and a List. I am using the properties in the page and report header sections and i want to use the list as the details. Now the problem is binding to the List's item properties in the details section. I have played around with the expression builder and it seems that i should access the properties like this : [=Fields.myList.Item.myProperty] when i run the program i get a nice big red rectangle with the following error : An error has occured while processing TextBox 'textBox28':Common Language Runtime detected an invalid program. I have tried to change different variants of expression which also gives me other errors [=Fields.myList.myPropery] An error has occured while processing TextBox 'textBox28': The expression contains object 'myProperty' that is not defined in the current context. The closest i have gotton was with the object it self, which outputs the object.toString() [=Fields.myList]

• I am using jquery ajax using text() but any html written in the XML doesn't render?

  So I have Jquery Ajax working real nice, but an issue I am having is in my XML if I want to bold a work or Italicize a sentence, if I do it in the XML using HTML tags it will not show up. I am pretty sure it is due to using the .text(). • Vim and clang_complete, how to explicitly compile my code

  I use Vim with clang_complete for omnicompletion. The plugin is automatically triggered when I need completion, e.g., after I type . or -> to access an object members or methods (see attached screenshot). The plugin works really nice, however I would need a way to trigger it manually (i.e. to compile my code for syntax checking). This is useful for two reasons: Static syntax checking Clear previous errors which have been fixed (which otherwise will remain in their buffer). • Get Python 2.7's 'json' to not throw an exception when it encounters random byte strings

  Trying to encode a a dict object into json using Python 2.7's json (ie: import json). The object has some byte strings in it that are "pickled" data using cPickle, so for json's purposes, they are basically random byte strings. I was using django.utils's simplejson and this worked fine. But I recently switched to Python 2.7 on google app engine and they don't seem to have simplejson available anymore. Now that I am using json, it throws an exception when it encounters bytes that aren't part of UTF-8. The error that I'm getting is: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x80 in position 0: invalid start byte It would be nice if it printed out a string of the character codes like the debugging might do, ie: \u0002]q\u0000U\u001201. But I really don't much care how it handles this data just as long as it doesn't throw an exception and continues serializing the information that it does recognize. How can I make this happen?   Not really a question but I'm looking for comments/suggestions from anyone who has experiences using one or more of the following: EhCache with RMI EhCache with JGroups EhCache with Terracotta Gigaspaces Data Grid A bit of background: our applications is read only for the most part but there is some user data that is read-write and some that is only written (and can also be reasonably inaccurate). In addition, it would be nice to have tools that enable us to flush and fill the cache at intervals or by admin intervention. Regarding the first option - are there any concerns about the overhead of RMI and performance of Java serialization?

• WPF Dragging a window to the desktop

  I've seen some nice Adobe AIR demos where a component of the application is dragged outside of the application and dropped onto the desktop and then continues to run in a new window. This seems to be facilitated by the NativeDragManager class. Is there anything similar in WPF? How would you go about implementing this sort of functionality in WPF to allow a user control to be dragged to the desktop and then continue to run in a new window? This is great for multi-monitor scenarios and exactly what msft have added to vs2010. Regards pfaz

Doesn't that the value of 'x' in a() should be 'gone' as soon as test = new a() is complete? The stack contains x should also be gone as well, right? Or, does javascript always keep all the stacks ever created in case they will be referenced in future? But that wouldn't be nice, would it...?

  i have 2 windows: window A and window B. -window A and window B have same domain -window A and window B doesn't have any parent window. first question: -is it possible for window A to get a reference of window B? second question: -what is the most elegant way to make window A notify something to window B? (modern browser supporting HTML5 restriction is not a problem) 2 ways i am aware of doing this: -messaging by server: where window B regulary asks the server if window A has notified something -messaging by local data (HTML5): when window A wants to notify something it changes the local data, window B regulary checks the local data for any change. but the 2 ways are not so elegant. for example it would be nice to get an reference of window B and using window.postMessage() (HTML5) ultimate goal is to make something like facebook where if you open 4 facebook tabs, and chat in one tab, the chat is actualized on every facebook tab, which is neat! thanks folks!

• How do I make different texts to appear in after clicking x-times?

  I want to show some text within a class for each click but keep the clicky-class. Shortly, if you click 2 times, you will get a div-text "You clicked two times", you will still be able to click a third time, then you will get "You clicked three times", until the fifth time when everything will hide. Is there any simpel way to do this? • How do I run multiple ruby scripts sequentially on my local machine?

  I have about 5 or 6 ruby scripts I want to run, right after each other. These are all on my local machine (OS X) and won't be run on a server. Each takes about 15 minutes to run, and I don't want to have to wait for each one to finish before running the others manually. Without using something as heavy as delayed_job or some other queueing gem, how can I achieve this? Or should I go through the hassle of setting up sidekiq or something else? Thanks. P.S. It would be nice to restart the script if one of them times out (I am doing web crawling, so keeping an HTTP connection open sometimes gives me issues) - which happens occasionally.

• cross-browser Onunload and Onbeforeunload ? (particularly opera 11)

  I have a form and I must notice user with alert() on exiting page while there are data in the form that had not been send. I've read that opera has a lot of problems with this. Opera 11 that is, because I need take into account only last version. So again, the alert should display on refresh, closing a tab, or closing whole browser. It would be nice to set event directly to the <form> element that would be launched on anything that leads to destroying this element.

  Is there a better way to serialize an ObjC object than using /NSKeyedArchive? I need to distribute the object through a C++ std:ostream-like object to put on another computer. The object has over 122 members of various types... for which wants me to [coder encodeObject: (id) forKey: @"blah"]; for all of them... Does anyone have a nice Perl Script that will at least write it out? I don't even know if the objects it contains implement which means this could turn into a huge ugly mess since I can't change the source of the object - I'll have to inherit & add the @interface to it... Or am I being dumb? Apple's guide doesn't help me since archiving to XML won't pass nicely though the ostream. Is there a better way to do this? -S!

  someone wrote a nice framework for developing html5 3d engine. It's GPL/MIT licensed. Do you think it's a good idea to build upon it, and then repackage it and sell it as a service? For eg the framework lets you build 3d environments. so I build on it, maybe add a few features like characters and music in the environment, and turn it into an online game. Is it a feasible idea? Of course, part of the GPL license says that all source code has to be visible to end users. Assuming the web is a winner take all market based on first mover advantage, why care about hiding the source code? It's the product that's being sold that counts.

• When does an ASP.NET Website project recompile?

  Where's the info that tells the kinds of changes and files which cause a website project (not web application project) to recompile itself? The reason I'm asking is because we don't want users to lose their sessions. So we want to update the live website with recompile changes in the very wee hours of the morning, but would prefer to make changes during the day to expedite them. • Equivalent for Java's System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") in C ?

  As the title says, the java.io.tmpdir property in Java is really nice, and I can't find an equivalent for C. I'm writing for Windows and in Visual Studio. I don't want to just use something like C:\Temp because in later versions of windows the appropriate directory could be something like C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Temp and a way to retrieve this would be much easier. I want a directory and not just a temp file because I'm downloading and executing a file from the internet. As a side note, if anyone can give me tips about how to better google for C stuff it would be much appreciated :)

• Writing a script to bypass college login page

  My college has a silly login page that requires you to download a whole bunch of garbage that a lot of us don't need (Norton Anti-virus, Antispyware software, etc.). We have to have them running to get on the internet on campus. Though, if you are on Linux, or at least set your user-agent to linux, the requirements are gone. We could easily use Firefox with the useragent switcher to bypass this, but it'd be nice to create a script that automates this. How would this be possible? I figure this could be written in python, and could grab the webpage with curl specifying a user agent? How would I go about posting the data back to the servers? Thanks

• How to avoid Modal Storyboard infinite loop

  I've written a number of iOS applications a year ago on an old version of Xcode. I've just started a new project and discovered the storyboard feature in the latest Xcode. It turns out this is perfect for the application I am writing as it consists of ~30 interlinked screens. My question is, how do I structure my storyboard and segues to allow my application to follow a circular path through my screens. I have seen a number of examples that simply segue screen 1 to screen 2 and then screen 2 to screen 1 using the modal option. This clearly works but when I debug an application built this way, it instantiates a new instance of each screen (view controller) for every segue performed. In the diagram below (apologies, I drew a nice picture but due to my newbie status, was not able to post it), how do I go from screen 1 to screen 2 to screen 3 and back to original screen 1 without creating a new instance? // Screen 1 --> Screen 2 --> Screen3 // ^ | // | | // +-------------------------+
