Do this external code get packaged with the spreadsheet what if people start emailing the spreadsheet around. Is there any overhead of this additional assemblies. Is there risk of the binaries getting detached from the spreadsheet It seems like microsoft has been pushing VSTO for over 5 years now but you read lots of mixed reviews and issues. Are we at the point where companies that do large VBA excel solutions can fully migrate over to dotnet without any real worries?

  Hello, I use the Application.Idle event to handle toolbar status (enable/disable) etc. quite extensively. As I'm beta testing Norton AntiVirus 2011, it brought to my attention that my app that I'm developing triggered a high CPU usage warning on at least one CPU. Sure enough, I opened the task manager and watched one of the four CPU's (quad core system) go to near 100%. I thought Application.Idle was the way to handle things when the application wasn't performing CPU tasks. Why is Application.Idle spiking the CPU?   I have an SSAS cube containing customers and their purchased memberships (let's say magazines). I want to calculate the retention. I.e. how many customers remain a customer. To do this I specify a set (males, 30yrs, 1 january 2011). I want to see if this set - identified by a customer number - is still present in the following months. I named my set MySet2. What I try to do is: sum(measures.amount, [membership].[name].&[X], MySet2, [date].[date].currentmember) However, the result is incorrect. The number is far to low. I suspect it still tries to account for all the males of 30 years old, but after a year they're not 30 anymore. What am I missing? I looked at scope and filter, but I'm not sure how to apply it.

  I'm writing a web page where I show a title and a date over some text. My HTML: <div class="post"> <h2>Post 1</h2> <span class="date">February 28, 2011</span> <div class="post-content"> ... </div> </div> My css: .post h2 { float: left; } .date { float: right; } .post-content { clear: both; } What I want to do is vertically align the title and date such that their bottoms match. Right now they don't: I tried wrapping the two text elements in a div, setting the div's position to relative, and using absolute positioning on the two text elements (and taking out the float declarations). That didn't work because the top margin is not preserved due to the wrapper div collapsing, even though I gave it a clearfix class.

• How can I select all records between two dates without using date fields?

  Hi, I have a MySQL DB and I need to be able to store dates earlier then 1970 - in my case, as early as 0 AD and earlier too, so I need a custom way to store dates. I have thought to use this format: Year - int(6) | Month -int(2) | day - int (2) | time - time | AD tinyint (1) | mya - int (11) But when it comes to actually using data in this format it becomes difficult. For example, if I want to get all records between two dates it would be like (pseudocode not SQL): get all where year between minYear and maxYear if year == minYear, month = minMonth if year == maxYear, month <= maxMonth if month == minMonth, day = minDay if month == maxMonth, day <= maxDay if day == minDay, time = minTime if day == maxDay, time <= maxTime or something, which seems like a right pain. I could store seconds before/after 0 AD, but that would take up way too much data! 2010 (EDIT: 2011) = 6.4 billion seconds since 0 AD. Does anybody have any ideas for this problem?

  I need to write some vbscripts in my new project. I was told by other people that vbscripting is easy, but seems to me, it is not. For example, in the following example (provided by microsoft), these functions: CreateObject, CreateShortcut, as well as these property names: TargetPath, WindowStyle, Hotkey, etc, are used, but I just cannot find the corresponding API documentation about how to use them. In other words, how do you know you need to call these functions in your vbscripts? Visual Studio 2008/2010 do not have templates for vbscript either.   Is there a possibility to set size of Report to fit on one page pragmatically. In excel there is option for page Scaling where We can set how many pages by tall and by wide is going to be printed . Does exists something analog in SSRS2008 ? I am using Sql Report Server 2008 and Ill try to do that by exporting report to excel and after that to set numbers of pages using ASP and C#. But the bad thing that I do not have office system installed on my server, and If I deploy code over visual studio project for Excel worksheet I am afraid that is not going to work on my server. • Display list of websites on local IIS server in a web page

  Hey Guys, I am currently trying to figure out a way to list all of the websites that are running on a local IIS 6 server at the office and display links to each site with their descriptions so we can always find our development sites with ease. The way that the server is currently set up is I add a DNS record for a new site. eg: newsite.company.local and then add it to IIS. This way all the users in our office can access this site via their browser and developers can test, admins can review etc etc. What I want to do now is automatically generate a webpage with a list of all of the sites running on iis and have it be available across the network. I have never looked into this before and have no idea where to start.. help! Thanks :)

  Hi guys, Looking for a bit of help with taking a dat from a DatePicker Widget and storing it in an sqlite database within the app. I have the following code: java.util.Date utilDate = null; String y = Integer.toString(date.getDayOfMonth()) + "/" + (date.getMonth()+1) + "/" + Integer.toString(date.getYear()); SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyy"); utilDate = formatter.parse(y); java.sql.Date z = new java.sql.Date(utilDate.getDate()); x = z.toString(); Log.v("The date: ", x); } Where date is the DatePicker widget. If I output the utilDate variable (i.e. the Java version of date) using logCat it seems to work fine and gives me a format like: Tue Jan 04 00:00:00 GMT 2011 which I am expecting but using the code above to get the sql version of the date, it always gives me the date 1970-01-01. I'm pretty sure the solution is very simple but I just can't see it.

  I am storing documents in sql server in varbinary(max) fileds, I use filestream optionally when a user has: (DB_Size + Docs_Size) ~> 0.8 * ExpressEdition_Max_DB_Size I am currently zipping all the files, anyway this is done because the Document Read/Write work was developed 10 years ago where Storage was more expensive than now. Many files when zipped are almost as big as the original (a zipped pdf is about 95% of original size). And anyway unzipping has some overhead, that becomes twice when I need also to "Check-in"/Update the file because I need to zip it. So I was thinking of giving to the users the option to choose whether the file type will be zipped or not by providing some meaningful default values. For my experience I would impose the following rules: 1) zip by default: txt, bmp, rtf 2) do not zip by default: jpg, jpeg, Microsoft Office files, Open Office files, png, tif, tiff Could you suggest other file types chosen among the most common or comment on the ones I listed here?

  I'm trying to LEFT JOIN two tables, to get a list of all rows from TABLE_1 and ONE related row from TABLE_2. I have tried LEFT JOIN and GROUP BY c_id, however I wan't the related row from TABLE_2 to be sorted by isHeadOffice DESC. • Cannot debug tests using Resharper

  Hi, I'm not able to debug my tests using Resharper-Debug option in my project. I have seen this issue raised by lots of people, but has't come across a solid suggestion which solves my issue. The strange thing is that, if I create a sample project and write a simple unit test, I'm able to debug it without any issues.However when I try to do this in my current project, it simply throws a dialog box saying "Cannot Launch Debugger".I have checked this with my peers, and they does't face this issue :( Also I don't have any issues while running the test. • SSAS OLAP MDX and relationships

  I new to OLAP, and still not sure how to create a relationship between 2 or more entities. I am basing my cube on views. For simplicity sake let's call them like this: viewParent (ParentID PK) viewChild (ChildID PK, ParentID FK) these views have more fields, but they're not important for this question. in my data source, i defined a relationship between viewParent and viewChild using ParentID for the link. As for measures, i was forced to create separate measures for Parent and Child. in my MDX query however, the relationship does not seem to be enforced. If i select record count for parent, child, and add some filters for the parent, the child count is not reflecting it.. SELECT { [Measures].[ParentCount],[Measures].[ChildCount] } ON COLUMNS FROM [Cube] WHERE { ( {[Time].[Month].&[2011-06-01T00:00:00]} ,{[SomeDimension].&[Foo]} ) } the selected ParentCount is correct, but ChildCount is not affected by any of the filters (because they are parent filters). However, since i defined a relationship, how can i take advantage of that to filter children by parent filter?

  I have a field called Timestamp, that stores its values as text as opposed to an actual Timestamp. The logging application is unchangeable, unfortunately. So table.Timestamp -> text field with format -> "Wed Mar 02 13:28:59 CDT 2011" I have been developing a query to purge all but the most recent row using this as my Timestamp selector, which is also converting the string into a date - MAX( STR_To_DATE( table.Timestamp , '%a %b %d %H:%i:%s CDT %Y' ) My query works perfectly... However, what I've found is that the string value - 'CDT' - changes between 'CDT' and 'CST' depending on whether the current time is daylight savings time or not. During daylight savings time, it logs as 'CDT', and vice versa. So all the rows that contain 'CST' get ignored when I run this - MAX( STR_To_DATE( table.Timestamp , '%a %b %d %H:%i:%s CDT %Y' ) and all the rows that contain 'CDT' get ignored when I run this - MAX( STR_To_DATE( table.Timestamp , '%a %b %d %H:%i:%s CST %Y' ) Is there a way to make it run against both string formats?

  I am interested in purchasing a netbook to do field research in another country. My hardware specifications for the nebtook are fairly basic: Be rugged enough to survive a bit of wear and tear Fairly fast processing (the ability to upgrade from 1GB of RAM to 2GB) A battery life of longer than 6 hours At least a 10 inch screen A decent camera for Skyping However, I am mainly concerned about being able to do basic statistical analysis in conjunction with R Be able run a Spreadsheet program to do basic data input (like Excel or Open Office) Use R to do basic data analysis (Regression, some simulation (nothing crazy), data cleaning, and some of the functionality) Word Processing (Word or Open Office) Do you have any suggestions on which models or brands my fit my needs? Some of the models I am considering: Samsung NB-30 Toshiba NB 305 Asus Eee PC 1005HA Lenovo S10-2 Does anyone use R on a netbook, and if so do you have any recommendations on how best to optimize it? This article from Lifehacker mentions some OS. Anybody use these in conjunction with R? Any help would be much appreciated.
