  • Best way to ensure accurate timing with C

    - by Paul
I am a beginning C programmer (though not a beginning programmer) looking to dive into a project to teach myself C. My project is music-based, and because of this I am curious whether there are any 'best practices' per-se, when it comes to timing functions.

  • How do I flag only one of the formsets in django admin ?

    - by azuer88
I have these (simplified) models: class Question(models.Model): question = models.CharField(max_length=60) class Choices(models.Model): question = models.ForeignKey(Question) text = models.CharField(max_length=60) is_correct = models.BooleanField(default=False) I've made Choices as an inline of Question (in admin). Is there a way to make sure that only one Choice will have is_correct = True? Ideally, is_correct will be displayed as a radio button when it is displayed in the admin formset (TabularInline). My first solution was to override the validation of the formset but did understand how to do this. (is_correct is displayed as checkbox, and I'd display an error that only one is_correct should be selected.)

  • CSS centering text between two images

    - by David Lively
I need to display two images and some text like so: ------------------------------------------ img1--------some centered text-------img2 ------------------------------------------ img1 and img2 are not the same dimensions, but their widths are very close The text is variable depending on the page in which it is displayed, and may include two lines instead of one. The text needs to centered horizontally between the two images, or between the outside of the container (either will be fine) the text AND the images need to be centered vertically within the container. I can do this VERY easily with a table, but I'd rather not retreat to that for layout. The position:inline-block and display:table-cell attributes work great in some browsers, but I need to support IE6+.

  • Android: how to convert a Drawable to Bitmap

    - by Rob
How can I convert a Drawable to a Bitmap? I would like to set a certain drawable as the device's wallpaper, but all wallpaper functions accept Bitmaps only (I cannot use WallpaperManager - I'm pre 2.1). Also, my drawables are downloaded from the web and do not reside in R.drawable. Thanks, Rob

  • ebook reader for programming books?

    - by Martin
Are the current ebook readers good enough for reading programming books (containing diagrams, source-code, screenshots, and so on)? How good are the search functions or the possibilities to set bookmarks, to use a book as a reference? I'd like to hear opinions of ebook reader owners to help me decide whether or not I should buy an ebook reader. (I know this question already exists, but it's over one year old and new ebook readers are now available)

  • ImageCaptureCore documentation

    - by Marc Rochkind
There are a few overviews in the OS X 10.6 docs that I access via XCode, and a bunch of examples, but the actual reference docs seem to be absent. I was able to figure things out by reading the inline comments in the header files (e.g., ICCameraDevice.h), which looks like the source for the XCode docs. Is there a way to install these docs? The biggest problem with the overview writeups and the examples is that they assume you have a GUI. The whole point of ImageCaptureCore, vs. ImageKit, as I understand it is that you don't have a GUI, or want to have your own (my case). Anyone else have a good time figuring out how these APIs work? Way too much work! --Marc

  • insufficient buffer when call DocumentProperties, also, global unlock wouldn't unlock...

    - by Quincy
    please see comments inline bool res = false; DWORD dwNeeded = DocumentPropertiesW(NULL, m_currPrinterHandle, (LPWSTR) m_currPrinterName.c_str(), NULL, NULL, 0); if (m_devmode_buf) { GlobalFree(m_devmode_buf); } m_devmode_buf = GlobalAlloc(GPTR, dwNeeded); GetLastError(); // = 0; if (m_devmode_buf) { LPDEVMODEW devmode_buf = (LPDEVMODEW) GlobalLock(m_devmode_buf); GetLastError(); // = 0 if (devmode_buf) { if (devmode_buf) { lala = DocumentPropertiesW(NULL, m_currPrinterHandle, (LPWSTR) m_currPrinterName.c_str(), devmode_buf, NULL, DM_OUT_BUFFER); if (lala == IDOK) { res = true; } GetLastError(); // = 122. insufficient buffer here. why???? } UInt32 res1 = GlobalUnlock(m_devmode_buf); // res1 is 1. should be 0 res2 = GetLastError(); // = 0 if (!(res1 == 0 && (res2 == ERROR_NOT_LOCKED || res2 == NO_ERROR))) { //res = false; } } }

  • Python: using doctests for classes

    - by Adam Matan
Hi, Is it possible to use Python's doctest concept for classes, not just functions? If so, where shall I put the doctests - at the class' docstring, or at the constructor's docstring? To clarify, I'm looking for something like: class Test: """ >>> a=Test(5) >>> a.multiply_by_2() 10 """ def __init__(self, number): self._number=number def multiply_by_2(self): return self._number*2 Thanks in advance, Adam

  • Function-Local Static Const variable Initialization semantics.

    - by Hassan Syed
The questions are in bold, for those that cannot be bothered reading a question in depth. This is a followup to this question. It is to do with the initialization semantics of static variables in functions. Static variables should be initialized once, and their internal state might be altered later - as I (currently) do in the linked question. However, the code in question does not require the feature to change the state of the variable later. Let me clarrify my position, since I don't require the string object's internal state to change. The code is for a trait class for meta programming, and as such would would benifit from a const char * const ptr -- thus Ideally a local cost static const variable is needed. My educated guess is that in this case the string in question will be optimally placed in memory by the link-loader, and that the code is more secure and maps to the intended semantics. This leads to the semantics of such a variable "The C++ Programming language Third Edition -- Stroustrup" does not have anything (that I could find) to say about this matter. All that is said is that the variable is initialized once when the flow of control of the thread first reaches the code. This leads me to ponder if the following code would be sensible, and if not what are the intended semantics ?. #include <iostream> const char * const GetString(const char * x_in) { static const char * const x = x_in; return x; } int main() { const char * const temp = GetString("yahoo"); std::cout << temp << std::endl; const char * const temp2 = GetString("yahoo2"); std::cout << temp2 << std::endl; } The following compiles on GCC and prints "yahoo" twice. Which is what I want -- However it might not be standards compliant (which is why I post this question). It might be more elegant to have two functions, "SetString" and "String" where the latter forwards to the first. If it is standards compliant does someone know of a templates implementation in boost (or elsewhere) ?

  • Is it possible to create your own custom locale

    - by smerlin
Since Windows doesnt have a C++ locale with UTF8 support by default, i would like to construct a custom locale object which supports UTF8 (by creating it with a custom ctype facet). How can i construct a locale object with a my own ctype implementation (i only found functions to construct a locale using an already existing locale as base..) If C++ does not support construction of locales with a custom ctype facet at all, why is that so ?

  • How to auto-generate externs for the Google Closure Compiler

    - by ivo
Suppose you are working in a javascript project with several external library dependencies, and want to compile your sources using the Google Closure Compiler in ADVANCED_OPTIMIZATIONS mode. Since in this mode the compiler will rename your code calls to the external libraries objects and functions, you must provide externs, to prevent this renaming from happening. But, it is a lot of work to produce the externs by hand, so, what is the best way to auto-generate the appropriate extern from a given javascript lib?
