• Second monitor not detected

  Hi I have two VGA monitors, my GPU is ATI PowerColor 6850 which has two DVI slots, I use adapters for both VGA monitors. If I connect any the two monitors in the first slot it will work right away (along the plugin confirmation sound). And if I connect any of both monitors to the second slot I won't get anything, nor a signal or confirmation sound. I also tried auto detecting via Catalyst Control Center and Windows Desktop Resolution. I have the latest drivers installed. EDIT: I found this on the Spec Description: Display Connectors DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D And in NewEgg: 2 x DVI (1 Single Link, 1 Dual Link) Could this have anything to do with my issue?

  On my win7 machine when I watch a movie in XBMC, once per hour the desktop regains the focus. The movie keeps playing, but in the background now, so I can only hear it. It is quite irritating. I noticed, that the Windows Application log always contains two entres for this time: "The description for Event ID 0 from source Self-service Plug-in cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer." One entry is for starting, and one for stopping 60 seconds later. This keeps repeating, every two starts 3600 seconds apart. How can I repair it? How can I find out which service it is?

  I need to add static route on Mac OS. I found good description here Permanent Static Route Mac OS X 10.4.0 and followed the Roark Holz's (roarkh) solution. Now my problem: sometimes this solution works, sometimes does not. • Upon clicking on a file, excel opens but not the file itself

  Platform: Windows XP SP2, Excel 2007 Problem description: Upon clicking on a file in Windows Explorer (file is either .xls or .xlsx) Excel 2007 opens, but does not open the file itself. I need either to click on a file again in Windows Explorer or open it manually with File/Open ... from Excel. Does anyone know what could cause this rather strange behaviour ? The old versions of Excel worked "normally" ... i.e. upon clicking on a file, an Excel would open along with the file. Please, help !

  Description I have a big (7.4G) .mkv file (1080p) which I want to convert to H.264 (using x264) Problem MediaCoder and GSpot are unable to detect the codec. They don't display anything. Just that the file is a matroska Container Video with a MIMEtype of video/x-matroska. No bitrate, profile etc. But the source tells me that is VC-1 encoded. Question So how do I encode this file. as in, using what encoding software, since MediaCoder has failed.

• Error When Trying to Exchange Encrypted Emails with Sender Outside Domain

  I have an end user who is trying to exchange encrypted messages with a person outside of our company domain. When receiving emails from the user they receive a message that says: Signed By: (There were errors displaying the signers of this message, click on the signature icon for more details.) However, when you click on the signature icon it says: The digital signature on this message is Valid and Trusted. Then when you look at the "Message Security Properties" it shows two layers, each with a green checkmark beside them. The layers are presented as below: Subject: Digital Signature Layer It also has: Description: OK: Signed message The end result with all of this is that when the user on my side tries to send this user an encrypted message it says: Microsoft Outlook had problems encrypting this message because the following recipients had missing or invalid certificates, or conflicting or unsupported encryption capabilities: Continue will encrypt and send the message but the listed recipients may not be able to read it. However, the only options you are actually given is "Send Unencrypted" and "CanceL" (Continue is grayed out). If anybody can assist I would greatly appreciate it!

• Win2008 - restrict VPN user permissions

  Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Foundations file server with no AD, only workgroup sharing some folders, and now a RRAS server. Shared folders are open to everyone in the office (XPs and Sevens) without accounts/passwords, but I was thinking about partially limiting access to the new "VPNuser" account. I'm new to Windows Server and its permissions settings: I thought about denying access to vpnuser through NTFS rights in some folders. It doesn't work, but now I'm guessing that the vpnuser is not considered as a logged user (doesn't appear as such) and is considered a "guest", like the rest of people connecting in the office. • OSX - Update "Java for OS X 2012-002" is not mentioned on support.apple.com, is this ok?

  Straight after installing "Java for OS X 2012-001" Software Update asks me to install "Java for OS X 2012-002", which has the exact same size (66.6 MB) and description (including the same two links: HT5055 and HT1222) as the former, which strikes me as odd. The "Java for OS X 2012-001" is described on the apple support pages, but the "Java for OS X 2012-002" is not mentioned anywhere. Also searching on google does not yield any usable results. What is your opinon? Am i paranoid? Did you also see this update?

  Is drupal going to improve the following features ? 1) multi-line description for CCK fields such as images (at the moment I can only write in a line but a text-area would be better 2) thumbnails upload for CCK Video fields (so I can upload a thumbnails for each video if I cannot install ffmpeg on the server) 3) merge CCK Images and Videos in a single group. So my customer can order them in the same list by dragging and dropping them, and in my front-end I have them ordered in the same list. This would be very useful for me. Do you know if I can get some of theme with some modules maybe ? thanks

  I am facing the following problem : I have downloaded Activiti BPM which runs under Apache. I have installed both; Java jre7 & Java jdk1.7.0_06. I set the JAVA_HOME to be C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_06. But when I try to run the Activiti BPM by typing the following in windows 7 command line : C:\activiti-5.10\activiti-5.10\setup>ant demo.start, the Tomcat server will start and the demo will build successfully, but if I try to navigate to the following link http://localhost:8080/activiti-explorer I get the following error : HTTP Status 404 - /activiti-explorer type Status report message /activiti-explorer description The requested resource (/activiti-explorer) is not available. • Program to dump ID3 tag structure

  Is there a program that would dump the complete structure of ID3v2 tags? Not just the frame names and values, but full information such as frame order, text encoding, description encoding (for TXXX frames), presence of unsynchronization, presence of multiple tags... Background: I'm rather curious why some files are incompatible with some programs. For example, some ID3v2.4 tags written by foobar2000 are not read by Winamp; editing with Mutagen fixes them but editing with foobar2000 breaks again. It's not the version or data encoding – most other v2.4 UTF-16 tags work fine... However, if I use foobar2000 to convert the tags to v2.3, then back to v2.4, they start working fine in Winamp – this last bit just does not make any sense. Edit: Linux or/and Windows.

• IIS6 + PHP + FastCGI 500 Errors - Where to start looking?

  I've set up IIS6 with FastCGI to use php-cgi.exe. I have some php websites by external parties, that I'm trying to run in a test environment. One of the websites just plain gives me a FastCGI Error Page. Question: Is there some way to enable logging somewhere so that I can get a bit more information on this problem? I have looked in Eventlog IIS Website log (c:\windows\system32\Logfiles) PHP log But no results, except the IIS Website log mentions a return of a 500 page. Question: Is there any other way to debug/check where things might be going wrong? Here is what the page looks like: FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. • Does lshw list the "factory" speed of a memory module or the effective speed and how to find the former?

  I hope I phrased this correctly. lshw gives: description: DIMM Synchronous 400 MHz (2.5 ns) product: M378B5773CH0-CH9 vendor: Samsung physical id: 0 slot: DIMM0 size: 2GiB width: 64 bits clock: 400MHz (2.5ns) And indeed the memory speed is set is set to 800MHz in the BIOS, which I think makes sense since it is a double rate. On the other hand, Googling strongly suggests that to this product number corresponds the PC3-10600 type, which is 1333MHz, not 800MHz. And this seems to be confirmed in the BIOS, where if I select Auto for memory bus speed, 1333MHz is selected "based on SPD settings". However in the latter case, the computer does not boot, i.e. the kernel panics, complaining that something attempted to kill the Idle process. So, I am I am beginning to suspect that I have been given defective memory, the technician that installed saw this, and lowered the bus speed. Is this a possibility?

• List existing file server permission groups/users

  So we have taken over a new client and their existing file server is frankly a mess. We have migrated their old file server from a 2k box to a 2k8 DFS cluster and now I'm looking at rebuilding both the folder structure and their permissions. Unfortunately its been half done with AD groups (poorly named/no description/notes) and half with individuals named in security on the folders themselves. What I'm looking to do is to dump a complete list of all the folders with their security permissions (ideally I'd like to ignore files but not essential). CACLS got me half way there but fails with an odd error message and its output isn't particularly user friendly and I'm working with roughly 2Tb/250,000 files here so I really need something that gives me a bit more functionality. Question : does anyone have any experience of something similar/know of a bit of software that might help me out?

  I've been using googlecl successfully to add events to my calendar. Things like: google calendar add "call Paul tomorrow at 8:30am" work great, and add the appropriate event t the right time. But no reminder is added for the event. I tried: google calendar add "call Paul tomorrow at 8:30am reminder 10 minutes" and other combinations. It just ends up adding the "reminder" instruction to the event description. What's the syntax I should use to add a, let's say, 10 minutes pop-up reminder? Thanks

• Are there HP Infinihost III ex drivers for windows available?

  I picked up some infiniband cards off ebay for development/testing purposes. I was hoping that there would be some drivers available under windows 7, but it doesn't seem to be recognised by the OFED software which would seem to contain windows drivers. • How do I read multiple lines from STDIN into a variable?

  I've been googling this question to no avail. I'm automating a build process here at work, and all I'm trying to do is get version numbers and a tiny description of the build which may be multi-line. The system this runs on is OSX 10.6.8. I've seen everything from using CAT to processing each line as necessary. I can't figure out what I should use and why. Attempts read -d '' versionNotes Results in garbled input if the user has to use the backspace key. Also there's no good way to terminate the input as ^D doesn't terminate and ^C just exits the process. read -d 'END' versionNotes Works... but still garbles the input if the backspace key is needed. while read versionNotes do echo " $versionNotes" >> "source/application.yml" done Doesn't properly end the input (because I'm too late to look up matching against an empty string).

• Upgrading HP DL185 G5 8LFF, is using a Dell J1520 4-Drop SATA Adapter possible?

  The HP DL185 G5 8LFF model supports 8 3.5" drives and 1 optical drive. However, instead of the optical drive, I'd like to have 2x 2.5" drives instead. The problem is that the PSU has no more SATA power cables (even though the motherboard has 4 additional SATA data ports). The PSU does have a free 10-pin connector and it looks like the J1520 cable from Dell would fit the bill. Link to cable description Does anyone have any experience using these cables? Are they safe? Any other ideas for adding the disks to the server if I don't use the cable? Thanks!

• DOS application to allow remote management of files over serial link

  Harken back to the days of DOS. I have an embedded DOS handheld device, and I'm looking for a tool to manage the files stored on it. I picture an application I can launch on the device that opens COM1 up for commands to get a directory listing, send/receive files via x/y/zmodem, move/delete files, and create/move/delete directories. A Windows application can then download a recursive file listing and then manage those files (for example, synchronizing with a local directory). Keep in mind that this is DOS -- 8.3 filenames, 640K of RAM and a 19200bps serial link (yuk!). I'd prefer something with source in case we need to add additional features (for example, the ability to get a checksum of a file for change detection). Now that I've written this description, I realize I'm asking for something like LapLink or pcAnywhere. Norton no longer sells DOS versions of pcAnywhere and LapLink V for DOS seems pricy at $50. Are you aware of any similar apps from those good old days?
