  I'm trying to use F# for an ASP.NET MVC application. One my controller actions sends an F# list to the view, so I write: <%@ Page Language="C#" Inherits="ViewPage<FSharpList<int>>" %> Of course, for this to work, I have to add Microsoft.FSharp.Collections to the namespaces element in my web.config: <add namespace="Microsoft.FSharp.Collections"/> and add a reference to FSharp.Core, in the assemblies element: <add assembly="FSharp.Core, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/> As soon as I add this assembly reference, every view (whether it uses an F# type or not) fails with this error: error FS1221: FSharp.Core.sigdata not found alongside FSharp.Core I can work around this by not having any F# specific types in my views, but what's the reason for this error? Also, where's FSharp.Core.sigdata ? It's not in my GAC and I can't find it anywhere.

• Getting an ASP.MVC2/VS2010 application to work in IIS 7.5

  I've recently downloaded beta 2 of VS2010 and started playing with ASP.NET MVC2. Initial development was done with Casini, but now I wanted to run the application from IIS 7.5 (I'm running Windows 7). I've installed the IIS6 metabase compatiblity and I run VS2010 as administrator so I can use the "Create Virtual Directory" button from the "Web" tab of the project settings. This created the web application entry in IIS, but it doesn't work. When I go to the main page (http://localhost/MyMvcApp/) I get a HTTP 403 error. When I go directly to one of the sub-pages (http://localhost/MyMvcApp/Home/) I get an HTTP 404. So I guess for some reason the URL routing isn't working. I've already added UrlRouting as a module and a handler to the web.config. In my searches this is offered as a solution for some similair problems. But for me this still doesn't work. • .NET Access automation with Access 2007 Runtime

  I'm having trouble deploying .NET application which uses Microsoft Access automation. I've installed the Access 2007 Runtime and Primary Interop Assemblies (PIAs) on the target machine: Access 2007 Runtime Office 2007 PIAs However, when I try to create the ApplicationClass: Application access = new ApplicationClass(); I get the following exception: Unhandled Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80080005): Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {73A4C9C1-D68D-11D0-98BF-00A0C90DC8D9} failed due to the following error: 80080005. I've googled the error code and tried tweaking the security settings in dcomcnfg, to no avail. Any ideas? I don't want to install the full version of Access due to the cost, and the runtime should at least be able to create an instance of the application, surely?

• Mixing Silverlight-Specific System.Xml.Linq dll with Non-Silverlight System.Xml.Linq dll

  I have a Logic layer that references Silverlight's System.Xml.Linq dll and a GUI that is in WPF (hence using the non-Silverlight System.Xml.Linq dll). When I attempt to pass an XElement from GUI project to a method in the Logic project, I am getting (basically) "XElement is not of type XElement" errors. To complicate matter, I am unable to edit the Logic layer project. The Non-Silverlight DLL is at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5\System.Xml.Linq.dll THe Silverlight DLL is at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v3.0\Libraries\Client\System.Xml.Linq.dll I am new to C# but I'm fairly sure my issue is that I am referencing different DLL's to access the System.Xml.Linq namespace. I attempted to replace my non-Silverlight System.Xml.Linq.dll with the Silverlight's System.Xml.Linq.dll, but received assembly errors. Is there any way to resolve this short of scrapping my WPF GUI project and creating a Silverlight project?

  I have an issue with log4net which has been bugging me for a while and I've resolved to sort it. I have a class library which references log4net. If I reference this class library in another project I must then reference log4net in this project otherwise I get a build error Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'log4net, Version=1.2.10.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=1b44e1d426115821' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event.' I'm aware that the error message is probably telling me the solution, unfortunately I don't speak gibberish... Cheers guys Alex..

• Debugging error "The Type 'xx' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced"

  The full error is as follows: The type 'System.Windows.Forms.Control' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Windows.Forms, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. and it points at the very first statement (an Debug.Assert line) in the very first class in a library project that doesn't need System.Windows.Forms (or so I thought). I know how to solve it: add the mentioned reference. But how do I find out what library is causing this error, or better, what part of the code triggers using the WinForms library? Normally, you can add libraries that reference others, but you only need to add references to these others when they're actually used. EDIT: Alternative solution This or similar problems can also be resolved using the Binding Log Viewer Fuslogvw.exe from Microsoft's Framework Tools. It shows all attempts and successes of assemblies your application binds to.

• Ado.net performance:What does SNIReadSync do?

  We have a query that takes 2 seconds to run in Sql Server Management Studio but it takes 13 seconds to be shown on a client screen. I used dotTrace to profile my source code and noticed there is this SNIReadSync method (part of ADO.net assemblies)that takes a lot of time to do its job(9 seconds).I ran my source over server so I could omit the network effects and the result was the same. It doesn't matter if I'm using OleDBConnection or SqlConnection. It doesn't matter if I'm using a DataReader or a DataSet. Connection pooling does not solve this issue(as my result shows). • Dependency Walker Not Showing All the Depended Dll

  I have a fortran dll, and I want to know the assemblies that it depends on for redistribution purpose. One thing I found out is that the dependency walker doesn't show all of the dependencies, i.e, there are some dlls that my assembly is dependent on, but dependency walker doesn't show it out. An example would be a dll that makes use of intel mkl LAPACK dlls, but the dependency walker doesn't show that dependency. Why this is so? And any idea how to fix this problem, or is there other more reliable tool that I can use?

• NServiceBus FullDuplex sample compiled and debugging against .NET 4.0 framework throws exception

  I just installed VS2010 RC and launched the FullDuplex sample from NServiceBus 2.0.0.1145 and it ran fine. I then changed the target framework of each project in the solution to ".NET Framework 4", recompiled and launched in the debugger and received the following exception: System.InvalidOperationException was unhandled Message=No endpoint configuration found in scanned assemblies. This usually happens when NServiceBus fails to load your assembly contaning IConfigureThisEndpoint. • How to modify IIS handler mapping permissions via Wix or a Custom Action

  Hi, I'm using Wix to create an installer for a Silverlight application. When I install the application the virtual directory that has been created has the execute permission checked for the *.dll handler mapping (IIS 7 Web site VDir Handler Mappings *.dll Edit Feature Permissions Execute). When I browse to the application it cannot download its satellite assemblies in ClientBin. If I uncheck the execute permission in IIS the handler becomes disabled and the application now works. I don't want to have to do this manually. Does anybody know how to modify the handler mapping permissions in Wix or a Custom Action? Thanks

• How to use Win32 SetCursor() with WPF resource and HwndHost

  We have an HwndHost UIElement in our WPF application which is used to display Direct3d graphics, and the only way I have found to set a cursor for the HwndHost UIElment is to call the Win32 API SetCursor(). All of our cursors are resources in managed assemblies, and I would prefer to not change that, but I have not been able to find a way to load one of these cursors via any Win32 APIs like LoadImage(). Does anybody know how to get a handle(hCursor) to a cursor which is a resource in a managed assembly? Or, is there another way to set a cursor on an HwndHost displaying Direct3D graphics?

• WPF Resource Dictionary in a separate assembly

  I have resource dictionary files (MenuTemplate.xaml, ButtonTemplate.xaml, etc) that I want to use in multiple separate applications. I could add them to the applications' assemblies, but it's better if I compile these resources in one single assembly and have my applications reference it, right? After the resource assembly is built, how can I reference it in the App.xaml of my applications? Currently I use ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries to merge the individual dictionary files. If I have them in an assembly, how can I reference them in xaml? Thanks for your help! Gustavo

• System.Reflection - Global methods aren't available for reflection

  I have an issue with a semantic gap between the CLR and System.Reflection. System.Reflection does not (AFAIK) support reflecting on global methods in an assembly. At the assembly level, I must start with the root types. My compiler can produce assemblies with global methods, and my standard bootstrap lib is a dll that includes some global methods. My compiler uses System.Reflection to import assembly metadata at compile time. It seems if I depend on System.Reflection, global methods are not a possibility. The cleanest solution is to convert all of my standard methods to class static methods, but the point is, my language allows global methods, and the CLR supports it, but System.Reflection leaves a gap. ildasm shows the global methods just fine, but I assume it does not use System.Reflection itself and goes right to the metadata and bytecode. Besides System.Reflection, is anyone aware of any other 3rd party reflection or disassembly libs that I could make use of (assuming I will eventually release my compiler as free, BSD licensed open source).

• Get Instance from StructureMap by Type Name

  Is there any way to request an instance from the StructureMap ObjectFactory by the string name of the type? For example, it would be nice to do something like this: var thing = ObjectFactory.GetInstance("Thing"); The use case here is a messaging scenario in which the message is very generic and contains only the name of a task. The handler receives the message, gets the task name from the message and retrieves the Type of task runner from a configuration database. StructureMap scans all the assemblies in a directory and one of them will contain the Type returned from the config database which then needs to be instantiated. The other possibility is to grab a Type instance by doing the following: var type = Type.GetType("Thing"); But the problem there is the assembly may or may/not be loaded in the AppDomain so that reflection call isn't always possible.

• Enumerating .NET assembly resources at runtime

  I have a resource assembly with image files in it that are built using Resource or Content build action. This makes these files accessible using the Uris. However I cannot find the way to enumerate such resources. If I set the build action to Embedded Resource it becomes possible to enumerate the files with the following code: string[] resources = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetManifestResourceNames(); but it in turn makes these files inaccessible using Uris. The question is - how to enumerate resources that are compiled with either Resource or Content build action? NOTE: As Thomas Levesque pointed out it is possible to enumerate such resources by leveraging the AssemblyAssociatedContentFileAttribute, but it seems to only work for WPF Application assemblies and not for class library ones. So the question is still open.

• Unable to generate temporary class for web service

  I have an application with a proxy class for my webservice - This works fine in all 32-bit machines. However the same app throws an exception in windows server 2008 64-bit machine. It looks like the temporary class could not be generated for the web service. The error in the event viewer is "error CS0008: Unexpected error reading metadata from file '' -- 'Bad Key. • Why is there no IronPerl (Perl for .Net)?

  I'm a bit disappointed that there doesn't seem to be any effort to make Perl a first-class citizen of the .Net world. I've read a few 'reasons' in the past but I don't see why they can't be overcome (different garbage collectors, hard-to-parse syntax, part of CPAN modules couldn't be ported, different communities, ...). Activestate has a Perl.Net product but it's a hack (in the good sense) around a standard interpreter and some syntactic sugar to interoperate with .Net assemblies. A few years ago they stopped they visual studio integration of Perl citing lack of interest. That was a while ago, before all the changes to .Net to make it more 'dynamic'. Am I the only one who yearns for IronPerl?

  I have read this link : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb464156.aspx They said : "... the XNA Framework Redistributable file does not contain the Content Pipeline Build Runtime. Building content at run time is supported only when XNA Game Studio has been installed on the Windows-based development computer." Actually, before I know of that, I have already used a lot of content pipeline to help me read out my game's assets. And because of that, I am now very headache to confront the publish's problem "The application requires that the assemblies Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline 3.1.0.0 be installed ....." So I would like to find some ways that can help me solve this without convertion of my pipelines. So that I don't need to rewrite it all in new classes that manually load assets for me. • Need to call COM component using reflections in C#.NET

  Hello, I need to determin the COM component(unmanaged code) type and invoke the exposed interface's methods using reflection in C#.NET at runtime. 1 -- First What member of "Type" tells that type is COM component and we can take CLSID at runtime? Is Type.COMObject? 2 -- I need to call methods of exposed interfaces as they called in unmanaged code using CoCreateInstance by passing CLSID and REFID ... I am using InvokeMember but it returns null or 0 as out parameter. How to pass out parameter in this case.? Is there any need to pass out parameter? As all my COM unamanged code suppose to take las parameter as an OUT parameter and after executing it puts the result into that out param. But I've converted all my unmanged COM code to .NET managed assemblies using tlbimp.exe. Regards Usman

Also Visual studio 2010 ultimate. I did not upgrade the target .net framework to 4.0 because my host will not support this for ~24 hours. I have a .Tests project in the same solution that says it is targeting .net 4.0 but it still won't build even with that unloaded, same message.

• Does OpenRasta support Mono?

  Although Mono support is not a big deal for us, I figured OpenRasta supported it cause it has some commit messages about it.. Well, I tried to build it on Mono and got Ambiguous type references(after manually creating like 10 obj directories.) So I tried just using the prebuilt assemblies I had on hand and that gave me an Object Reference Not Set To Instance of an Object (the usual error I have with mono.. ) at OpenRasta.Diagnostics.DebuggerLoggingTraceListener.WriteAll (using xsp2) Is there official support for Mono or am I missing some sorta extra step for deployment?

  Hello, I need to InterOp Win32 code (unmanaged Win32 DLL's and Exe) completely with .NET. I need to call Win32 unmanaged code(DLL exported functions) at runtime i.e (knowing the types of data types in Win32 signatures and need to pass data according to that type at runtime). This is 100% possible in case of COM. You can convert COM unmanaged code to managed assemblies using tlbimp.exe and use now reflection API to work with those managed types(actual were unmanaged types now converted managed using tlbimp). But same functionality I need to get in terms of Win32(i.e) in .NET framework. How?? I know MS provided Export table reading API ..but I couldn't find exact API for InterOp of Win32 unmanaged code Regards

  How to read strings from the MyResource.resx file from c#. I am not calling this from the asp.net page, rather i am calling from my bussiness logic. Assembly assembly = this.GetType().Assembly; ResourceManager resourceManager = new ResourceManager("MessagesResource", assembly); resourceManager.GetString("SCHEME_UNQ"); here i am getting exception, Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "MessagesResource.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "App_Web_eerdggo8" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. How can i fix this issue????

  I'd like to capture signatures of application users with a mini-tablet/little pos signature device. I welcome any first hand experiences of which ones were good and which ones to stay away from. Off the top of my head I can think of a few features I'd like to see: USB interface Not too expensive (I don't know 100-200 dollars?) Be easy to integrate with a managed .NET application Also I realize most people, myself included, think of digitally signing assemblies with code instead of a mini-tablet device, if there is a more accurate phrase for this pleas let me know. • Why isn't pyinstaller making me an .exe file?

  I am attempting to follow this guide to make a simple Hello World script into an .exe file. I have Windows Vista with an AMD 64-bit processor I have installed Python 2.6.5 (Windows AMD64 version) I have set the PATH (if that's the right word) so that the command line recognizes Python I have installed UPX (there only seems to be a 32-bit version for Windows) and pasted a copy of upx.exe into the Python26 folder as instructed. I have installed Pywin (Windows AMD 64 Python 2.6 version) I have run Pyinstaller's Configure.py. It gives some error messages but seems to complete. I don't know if this is what's causing the problem, so the following is what it says when I run it: C:\Python26\Pyinstaller\branches\py26winConfigure.py I: read old config from C:\Python26\Pyinstaller\branches\py26win\config.dat I: computing EXE_dependencies I: Finding TCL/TK...
