  • I want to sell my software [C# desktop application] but I was Stuck in licencing [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: if I use .NET Framework for my application, do I have to pay anything to Microsoft? I have developed a desktop application called "Institute Management System" which has modules like Class manager, Subject manager, Topics manager, Student inquiry manager Student admission manager, Fees manager, Exam manager etc. using C# for the front end and MS Access for the back end. The main problem is that I want to sell it and earn some money but I heard that my application needs to be registered at Microsoft, and I would have to get a license from them for selling, and have to pay them money too. I have spent four months developing it at my own expense, and worked very hard to develop it. So I want some tips, advice, any suggestion for the same. Please also tell me the procedure for all of the required registrations and payment issues. And I also want to ask you if you Can you suggest any other technology where I develop my application and sell it without worrying about licencing and related issues? I am now more confused about that "MS technology is open source or not? "

  • Microsoft Terminology: .NET C++ vs. traditional C++

    I've recently been working with a team that's using both .NET C++ and pre-.NET C++. I fully understand the technical differences between the two technologies. However, I sometimes feel like I'm floundering when it comes to the terminology used to differentiate the two. Example: Say we have two projects: ProjectA contains "C++" code that builds a .NET assembly DLL. ProjectB contains Visual C++ code that builds a traditional native Windows DLL. What is the best way to succinctly and terminologically draw a distinction between the two projects? Again, I'm not asking for an in-depth technical description of the differences between the two technologies. I'm just looking for names and labels. This is how, today, I might try to make the distinction when talking to someone: "ProjectA is a managed .NET C++ project" and "ProjectB is an unmanaged native C++ DLL project." However I am not at all certain that this terminology is ideal, or even correct. Please describe what you feel the ideal language to use in this situation (or similar situations) might be. Feel free to motivate your answer.

  • System.Net.Dns.GetHostAddresses("")

    Yesterday s**ked, and today ain't (sic) looking better. I have an application I have been working on and it can be slow to start when my ISP is down because of DNS. My ISP was down for 3 hours yesterday, so I didn't think much about this piece of code I had added, until I found that it is always slow to start. This code is supposed to return your IP address and my reading of the link suggests that should be immediate, but it isn't, at least on my machine. Oh, and yesterday before the internet went down, I upgraded (oymoron) to XP SP3, and have had other problems. So my questions / request: 1. Am I doing this right? 2. If you run this on your machine does it take 39 seconds to return your IP address? It does on mine. One other note, I did a packet capture and the first request did NOT go on the wire, but the second did, and was answered quickly. So the question is what happened in XP SP3 that I am missing, besides a brain. One last note. If I resolve a FQDN all is well.   • Windows Live SkyDrive: How To Move or Copy Files Between Folders

    Microsoft has very simple and easy to use interface to move files between folders in Windows Operating system. But their own cloud storage service,Windows Live SkyDrive, complicated these simple and daily used operations. We need a guide to figure out how to perform basic copy/move operations. Couple of years ago we wrote about moving files between folders in old version of SkyDrive but the guide does not hold good today as SkyDrive has gone through many user interface changes in the recent past. Today one of our readers asked us how to move/copy files in the latest version of SkyDrive and here are the steps to be followed 1. Login to your Windows Live SkyDrive 2. Select the file you want to Move or Copy by clicking on the information icon (see 2 in below image) 3. After selecting the information icon, expand Information section displayed on the right side panel to access Move and Copy options (see 3 in the below image). 4. To move the selected file to another folder, select Move option and Sky Drive will guide you through folder selection user interface for choosing the target folder. 5. Once you navigate to the target folder where you want to move the file click on “Move this file into <<Target Folder>>”. 6. You are done. Dear Microsoft, SkyDrive provides us tonnes of free storage but please make it’s user interface a bit better so that we don’t need to write guides to perform basic operations.   • Installation of MS SQL Database 2005 on Windows XP Home Sp3 fails with no specific error

    I am trying to install MS SQL Database 2005 on Windows XP Home SP3. It fails giving no reason ("Database failed to install"), then exits. I had already installed MS SQL Database Express Edition 2008 during 2005 setup. But when I removed 2008 one and tried to install 2005 afterwards it still failed with same error. The error happens when I am trying to install Dragon Age Toolset or Visual 2008 Pro edition. I do not known which else informations may be valuable as I never before encountered problems with installing MS database

    I had installed windows 7 for testing. Now i want to re-install windows xp home original. I am using the toshiba installation(recovery) disk. The installation process asked a few questions. I selected the option to retain other partitions and to delete only c drive. In the next step i got this error. http://web1.toshiba.ca/support//techsupport/tsbs/all/-tsb001404.htm So, what should i do to retain my files in d drive and only allow the installation to delete c drive?

  • Fonts look bad in Microsoft Office using Wine

    Office fonts in wine look very different from what they look in Windows or LibreOffice. As can be seen from the attached screenshots, they look blurry in some sizes and aliased in other sizes. You can see the differences not only in the document text but also in the ribbon menu. It happens with a lot of fonts. I'm testing it with Office 2010 now, but it also happens in Office 2007. Things I've tried: Changing fontsmooth settings with winetricks - made no difference. Copying fonts from a Windows system - made no difference. Using Ubuntu's fonts (by removing the Windows/Fonts from the wineprefix) - removed the blurriness in some fonts but increased aliasing. The three screenshots correspond to different "configurations": office_wine.png - Office Word in Wine using Wine's original fonts; office_nowinefonts.png - Office Word in Wine using Ubuntu's fonts; office_windows.png - Office Word in Windows. PS: please make sure to see the screenshots without scaling them to notice the problem. EDIT: A screenshot of how Calibri behaves in Wine here.

  • Problem with the hosts file in Windows XP

    I have a computer with Windows XP SP2 with a weird problem. The hosts file doesn't work. No matter what I do, adding or removing entries in the file doesn't make any difference, pinging the added names times out. I tried flushing the DNS cache (using ipconfig /flushdns) but that didn't work, I even tried to restart the DNS client service but that made no difference too. Removing entries also has no effect, I ping the names and I get a reply. Help!!! Edit: Thanks for your answer guys, but the problem is more complicated than this. It seems I'll have to reinstall Windows.

  • Future of WPF and free controls ? [closed]

    I am willing to work on a personal project that I would like to release publicly. I am working with Silverlight and have experience with XAML, as it is my full-time job. It is enjoyably for me to create UIs in Blend and XAML. I am also a big fan of C# language. I don't know what I would do without LINQ now. Anyways, I was looking at using WPF for my personal project. It seems that a lot of the controls out on the web are pay for items. The only place I have found to have a significant number of free controls is the WPF extended framework on codeplex. I want to make a financial application and need a powerful datagrid type of control that will allow me to enter transaction data. I haven't found such control for free in the net. It doesn't seem like there is much free community libraries/controls out there for Microsoft products. So, I was wondering if WPF would be the right way for me to go. I couldn't find any information on WPF usage in Windows 8, which coming very soon. I don't know Microsoft's plans for this technology. Would it be a better idea to use something different for the UI instead of WPF?

    Here's a quick update. I was down at a nice reception at the hotel for the conference speakers when a door is violently thrown open and a guys goes running through and down the hall. Following closely behind was a security guard. I immediately took off running after both of them. We tore down a long hallway and out the door of the hotel into the street.   • Windows XP unknown location popup annoyance

    I'm plagued by a popup from Windows XP when I use wireless. It says, "You are in an Unknown Location..." It always pops above whatever window I'm using, but does not take focus, so while it does not interrupt my typing, it gets in the way and I can't dismiss it with a keystroke. I'd like to find a way to disable this popup. I've searched in control panel -- Network Connections. I'm not referring to "balloon tips" that appear related to the wireless connection in a new location.
