  • Can an entire mailbox of deleted items be recovered in Office 365?

    Recently an employee deleted their entire mailbox before leaving the company and there was no litigation hold in place. Is there any way to recover all of the deleted items, preferably via a PowerShell script? We'd need to recover all of the folders, subfolders, and online archives. I realize we can recover emails one by one up to a point but this will take far too long to be feasible. Thanks in advance!

  • Cannot create Windows Service for MySQL (Vista)

    I uninstalled MySQL 5.1 from Vista as I lost the username/password, however I forgot to stop the MySQL service before doing so. Now whenever I try to reinstall it I get to the final configuration screen which then fails with the message "Cannot create Windows Service for MySQL Error:0". I've uninstalled MySQL and removed all related files/folders/registry entries but still no joy... Does anyone know a way to resolve this as I can't seem to find a fix online anywhere!

I've been looking around online, and I was under the impression that I could simply order a recovery disk or a re-install disk or something similar. But I'm getting a lot of different answers. What is the right (legal, cheap, in that order) way to do this?

    I'm using http://www.hetzner.de/en/. They send me something like that: Your Hetzner-Server is now active. Thank you for choosing Hetzner Online as your Web Hosting partner. You can access your server immediately via SSH2, using following details: IP-Address: *.*.*.* Login: "login" Password: "password" So, I'm trying to connect to this server in this way: ssh login@*.*.*.* Then I input my password, but it gives an error "permission denied". Can anyone tel me why and how can I fix this?

  • Proxy within a proxy, tunneling?

    At work there is a proxy that (understandably) blocks all ports except web ones. However, during lunch hours you are allowed to play online games. But as ports are blocked, multiplayer games are out of the question. So I was wondering, could I set up a tunnel on a web port, that would then allow me to access those blocked ports, through the port 80 tunnel whilst still being behind the work proxy? This is in a Windows environment.

  • No network connection and error

    My PC keeps reporting the following error in the event viewer around every 10-15 minutes: Faulting application , version 0.0.0.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000. Whenever it happens, the XP theme change to classic theme then change back to the normal theme. The network goes down and I must restart PC for the network to come back online. What could be causing this and how do i fix it?

    I know that linux is mostly safe from viruses, however: if you do download a windows virus (i.e., through a drive-by download), will it just sit there on your computer, and take up space? Is it unable to infect files because of the different operating system? If you transfer files between computers (by using a usb flash drive or through online file sharing), is there any risk that the virus could be transferred to windows and activate?

  • How do I completely uninstall mySQL on XP, including the root password?

    All I need is to be able to log in using root, but have forgotten the password. None of the steps to reset i found online work (i don't even have some of the executables mentioned such as mysql-nt.exe) However I have no problem deleting all databases (i have scripts) and intallations and starting completely from scratch... but uninstalling and deleting directories doesn't work.     My ideal setup would be to take a current clients site, upload a .htaccess with a regex inside, that would match the URI, and if it finds a certain file extension, it would use the same path, but with an altered domain. ie. Normal path: http://www.domain.com/something/images/someimage.jpeg http://www.domain.com/assets/js/jquery.js .htaccess translated would turn the above into: http://mycdn.other.com/something/images/someimage.jpeg http://mycdn.other.com/assets/js/jquery.js I googled this for hours in a row, no luck. Again, this is for actually making use of Amazon's CloudFront. S3 is already mounted to the website for backups and storing files using s3fs, but this doesn't solve the issue since it's using S3 directly, not using the CloudFront.

    Azure itself is imo PaaS and not IaaS. Do you agree? MS gurantees an availability of 99% and a strong consistency. Do they do backups? If Yes: How do they manage consistency? According to the Cap theorem (http://camelcase.blogspot.com/2007/08/cap-theorem.html ) their claims are not realistic. 2.1 Do you know detailed technical stuff about the how they are going to realize the claims about consistency and availability? On the MS page you'll find three SLAs .docs, one for SQL Azure, the second for Azure AppFabric/.Net Services and the third for Azure Compute&Storage.(Screenshot in 1.) How can one track whether SLAs are violated? Do they offer some sort of monitor, so I don't have to measure the uptime by myself?

    I've been writing code for a few years now and our backup strategy has been to zip the entire code directory up every few days and put it somewhere else on your hard drive, or occasionally upload it to some online file hosting service. Unfortunately the file hosting service got canceled without telling me and we lost years of backups. It's come down to the point where I finally have to learn to use version control. The only problems are My boss really doesn't like SVN, he tried it and it had a high learning curve (at least his client). We need a reliable place to host it (we can pay a reasonable amount). Can someone suggest what may be the best version control system and client for a newbie which won't be too annoying. Second what is a good remote version control service?

We are to make database-oriented app, with special attenion to pay on db security (access control, encryption, integrity, backups)... Database will also keep some personal information about people, which is considered sensitive by law regulations, so security must be good. I worked on school projects with databases, but this is first time working "in real world", where this db security has real implications.   • What did I lose when I upgraded?

    I upgraded my work box from Vista64 to Win7-64 by doing a format and reinstall. I kept backups of the project done in MS Visual Studio 2008 (Team). But now it won't compile. I am getting errors generated on lines in the MS created header files like "'_In_' not defined" etc. I know it is because I lost some compiler setting/directive. I was sure that the compiler settings would be in the project file; now I see that things like the include file directories, LIB files, etc. are not. [FYI: The project is a VB.NET GUI with VC++ DLL talking to a PIC24 micro over USB.] How do I most efficiently get my project back on the road to execution?

  • What is the correct way to backup ZODB blobs?

    I am using plone.app.blob to store large ZODB objects in a blobstorage directory. This reduces size pressure on Data.fs but I have not been able to find any advice on backing up this data. I am already backing up Data.fs by pointing a network backup tool at a directory of repozo backups. Should I simply point that tool at the blobstorage directory to backup my blobs? What if the database is being repacked or blobs are being added and deleted while the copy is taking place? Are there files in the blobstorage directory that must be copied over in a certain order?

  • iCloud + Storage of media in iPhone Documents folder

    I, like many developers, got an email from Apple recently that stated we should move our data from the documents directory into another folder to permit more streamlined backup to iCloud. In recent testing it appears that [your app] stores a fair amount of data in its Documents folder. Since iCloud backups are performed daily over Wi-Fi for each user's iOS device, it's important to ensure the best possible user experience by minimizing the amount of data being stored by your app. Marco Arment, of instapaper fame, has a good take on the issue, which is that the recommended location for storing downloadable files is in /Library/Caches. However, the problem is that both /tmp and /Caches can be 'cleaned' anytime the OS decides that the device is running low on storage. If your app is cleaned then the data downloaded by your app and stored by your user is gone. Naturally, the user will blame you and not Apple. What to do?
