• Where can I find "reference barcodes" to verify barcode library output?

  This question is not about 'best' barcode library recommendation, we use various products on different platforms, and need a simple way to verify if a given barcode is correct (according to its specification). There are some free online bar code generators in the Internet, and I found many differences between their output and our library output regarding graphics and text field below the code. Now I am not sure which one is wrong, and before filing bug report I want to make sure how the correct barcode should look like. We mainly need Code128 and UCC/EAN-128 with A/B/C subcodes. Which resource would you suggest?

• Getting started with Android code samples - permissions error

  New to android. Running Eclipse on Ubuntu 9.10 with Android SDK plugin installed and working. Trying to get some code samples from http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/get.html , and following its procedure to load said samples in Eclipse yields: Parent of resource: /home/user/android-sdk/platforms/android-4/samples/Notepad/.project is marked as read-only. chmod is not recursive, so I entered ~/android-sdk/platforms and "chmod 777 *" ie. all folders in /platforms. Still doesnt work. Appears to be be a bug in Eclipse that wants to create the project in the SDK folder rather than under ~/workspace.

• C++ MFC add combo box string item from a widget ID

  I've added a combo box in the gui editor in MSVC 2010 pro in my MFC project. I have a list of strings I am grabbing from an external source and want to add them to my combo box. I've searched for a while, and every post seems to suggest I need to use the CComboBox class, however, I have no idea how to get the class variable from the resource ID of the combobox element in the gui editor. In summary, how do I add a string to my combo box, either using a macro (like CB_ADDSTRING(RESOURCE_ID, "my string");) or using CComboBOx (something like CComboBox::GetObject(RESOURCE_ID)->AddString("blah");). I do not do much win32 api/mfc programming, and just started fiddling around with it.

  I am currently using a webview to load a webpage which contains lots of javascript and having lots of trouble debugging what exactly gets loaded and when in the webview . Then I saw this post where the op seems to be using apache log to monitor webpage load events in his webview. Enhance webView performance (should be the same performance as native Web Browser) Can I get a similar utility plugin or anything so that I can use it with logcat in ddms view. If possible please provide some resource as to how to configure it for android.

• jQuery works on local host, but not on website

  Using Notepad++ and XAMPP to test stuff, then I upload it to the website over FTP. In the head of my code, I have this to call jQuery and the script: <script type="text/javascript" src="/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/portfolio.js"></script> and it works fine locally on my XAMPP server. But as soon as it's uploaded onto the host, it throws this error: Resource interpreted as script but transferred with MIME type text/html. Not sure what's going on, or why it's having a hard time using jQuery. Any ideas?

• Is there anything in the FTP protocol like the HTTP Range header?

  Suppose I want to transfer just a portion of a file over FTP - is it possible using a standard FTP protocol? In HTTP I could use a Range header in the request to specify the data range of the remote resource. If it's a 1mb file, I could ask for the bytes from 600k to 700k. Is there anything like that in FTP? I am reading the FTP RFC, don't see anything, but want to make sure I'm not missing anything. There's a Restart command in FTP - would that work?

  I want to set the Expires header for all image/* and text/css. I'm doing this in a Filter. However: before calling chain.doFilter(..) the Content-type is not yet "realized" after calling chain.doFilter(..) the Content-type is set, but so is content-length, which forbids adding new headers (at least in Tomcat implementation) I can use the extensions of the requested resource, but since some of the css files are generated by richfaces by taking them from inside jar-files, the name of the file isn't x.css, but is /xx/yy/zz.xcss/DATB/.... So, is there a way to get the Content-type before the response is committed.

  So. You know how when you click a post in the Google+ app, the entire View becomes blue. I want to do that as well, but with an ImageView. I have the following code snippet, setting the actual image as the background and the selector as the main resource. This looks good, but doesn't respect scaleType for the background image: <ImageView android:id="@+id/painting_image" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="200dp" android:background="@drawable/img" android:src="@drawable/selector" android:scaleType="centerCrop" /> By the way, @drawable/selector is just a selector that shows a tranparent color for state_pressed: <item android:state_pressed="true"> <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <solid android:color="#44521400" /> </shape></item> How can I make this work while respecting the scaleType?

  The Android documentation tells me that I can access a string from another package by using the "package name", whatever that means: @[<package_name>:]<resource_type>/<resource_name> So in my manifest I want to access a string that I've placed in a separate library project, in the com.globalmentor.android package---that's where my R class is, after all: <activity android:label="@com.globalmentor.android:string/app_applicationlistactivity_label" android:name="com.globalmentor.android.app.ApplicationListActivity" > </activity> That doesn't even compile. But this does: <activity android:label="@string/app_applicationlistactivity_label" android:name="com.globalmentor.android.app.ApplicationListActivity" > </activity> Why? What does the Android documentation mean which it talks about the "package_name"? Why doesn't the first example work, and why does the second example work? I don't want all my resource names merged into the same R file---I want them partitioned into packages, like I wrote them.

Does anyone know of a good resource for collection of DP problems in C along with solutions? I know what DP is & have used it on an occasion or twice. In asp.net application I have SOAP service, which methods should be called from php. Origin http://localhost:8080 is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin.

  I have a picture on a given URL. The picture might need a referesh. I want to do the freshness-check at the time of the request. Therefore, I coded a jersey resource handling the request on the picture URL. It refreshes the picture on the filesystem if necessary. I do not want to re-code a caching mechansim, but rely on tomcat's implementation. Therefore, I would like to "forward" the request in the internal handler chain. I tried return new Viewable(sb.toString());, but a viewable is not a picture. What return type can I use? I could let the concrete picture reside on another URL and send a 307 (Temporary Redirect).   I have a class library silverlight project , so thee is no app xaml in it. I am defining all my styles in one ResourceDictionary xaml(So that every style i defined inside my project be globel). Now if i want to apply a style to a custom control which don't have its xaml ..only .cs : Then i can do it with the help of some class which will have the functionality to apply the style defined in the resource dictionary. • Deploying BlackBerry Applications Across Environments

  Has anyone come up with a good solution for deploying BlackBerry applications across different environments? My example is storing URLs and Authentication information in code. In most cases, a developer is going to have a different set of URL's to test against when developing the application vs what the end user is going to hit. The idea is when I go to build for production, I have something swap out the environment settings for the target environment vs manually replacing environment specific code each time. I am currently using eclipse. The only thought I've come up with so far would be to use a resource with encrypted values and have that swap when I run my build. Any ideas?

• How to Embed/Link binary data into a C++ DLL

  So I have a Visual Studio 2008 project which has a large amount of binary data that it is currently referencing. I would like to package the binary data much like you can do with C# by adding it as a "resource" and compiling it as a DLL. Lets say all my data has an extension of ".data" and is currently being read from the visual studio project. Is there a way that you can compile or link the data into the .dll which it is calling? I've looked at some of the google link for this and so far I haven't come up with anything - the only possible solution I've come up with is to use something like ResGen to create a .resources file and then link it using AssemblyLinker with /Embed or /Link flags. I dont think it'd work properly though because I dont have text files to create the .resources files, but rather binary files themselves. Any advice?

• What is the best way to keep database data encrypted with user passwords?

  Let's say an application has really specific data which belongs to a user, and nobody is supposed to see it except the owner. I use MySQL database with DataMapper ORM mapper. The application is written in Ruby on Sinatra. Application behavior: User signs up for an account. Creates username and password. Logs into his dashboard. Some fields in specific tables must be protected. Basically, I'm looking for auto-encryption for a model properties. Something like this: class Transaction include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :value, String, :length => 1024, :encrypted => true ... etc ... belongs_to :user end I assume that encryption/decryption on the fly will cause performance problems, but that's ok. At least if that works - I'm fine. Any ideas how to do this?

  Hi, i have been trying to use a velocity Template with the following content: Sübjäct $item everything works fine except the translation of the tow unicode characters. The result string printed on the commandline looks like: Sübjäct foo I searched the velocity website and the web an this issue, and came uo with differnt font encoding options, which i added to my code. But those won't help. • ideas for simple objects for day to day web-dev use?

  Dang-I know this is a subjective question so will probably get booted off/locked, but I'll try anyway, because I don't know where else to ask (feel free to point me to a better place to ask this!) I'm just wrapping my head around oop with PHP, but I'm still not using frameworks or anything. I'd like to create several small simple objects that I could use in my own websites to better get a feel for them. Can anyone recommend a list or a resource that could point me to say 10 day-to-day objects that people would use in basic websites? The reason I'm asking is because I'm confusing myself a bit. For example, I was thinking of a "database connection" object, but then I'm just thinking that is just a function, and not really an "object"??   I'm trying to understand an old classic Mac application's entry point. I've disassembled the first CODE resource (not CODE#0, which is the jump table). The code refers to some variables off the stack: a word at 0004(A7), an array of long words of starting at 000C(A7) whose length is the value at 0004(A7), and a final long word beyond that array that seems to be a pointer to a character string. The array of long words looks like strings at first glance, so it looks superficially like we're dealing with an (int argc, char ** argv) situation, except the "argv" array is inline in the stack frame. What should a program be expecting on its stack / registers when it first gets called by the Mac OS?

  I am creating a WIN32 application and I want most of all my application events to be made through the message queue. But everytime I create a dialog box or any resource like that. The IDE auto generates code that I don't necessarily need. However, in many (most) cases, working sets are used to define a set of resources. In case these elements can be seen as resources (e.g. IJavaProject), is there a universal (or formal) way to programatically translate these elements to resources? Eventually, I need to determine whether a given resource is in a working set, so an answer in that direction is acceptable as well.

• What is the reason not to use select * ?

  I've seen a number of people claim that you should specifically name each column you want in your select query. Assuming I'm going to use all of the columns anyway, why would I not use SELECT *? Even considering the question from 9/24, I don't think this is an exact duplicate as I'm approaching the issue from a slightly different perspective. One of our principles is to not optimize before it's time. With that in mind, it seems like using SELECT * should be the preferred method until it is proven to be a resource issue or the schema is pretty much set in stone. Which, as we know, won't occur until development is completely done. That said, is there an overriding issue to not use SELECT *?
