  • Fanpage/Application integration: how to post to a fan page from an application

    I have an existing client who has a fan page for their brand already. I need to create a Facebook Connect enabled website (so I'll be creating an application for it). I want the Facebook Connect application to post to the Fan page's wall as the brand. Is this possible? Is there a way to associate an application with a Fan page if I was an admin of both? Any direction would be much appreciated.

    Hi everybody, I have just installed the Mantis bug tracker to use together with Eclipse IDE and have started too found out the advantages of it. Really great. Since Eclipse communicates with Mantis through an PHP soap API, I wonder if there's some documentation available on how I can myself make calls to the API to add new bugs and get statuses of existing ones.   • iOS6 Twitter integration

    There seems to be a difference between the iPhone simulator and actual device when checking if Twitter is available. I check if a Twitter account is setup by using this code: [SLComposeViewController isAvailableForServiceType:SLServiceTypeTwitter]; In the simulator there is a nice UIAlertView informing the user that there are no Twitter accounts setup and two buttons one for Settings and one for Cancel. However when I run my app on my device it will not show the above UIAlertView. Why is that? And how can I catch what button is tapped in the above UIAlertView (since I did not instantiate it?)     I'm trying to get NHProf reports on my integration tests as a report in TeamCity I'm not sure how to get this set up correctly and my first attempts are unsuccessful. Let me know if there is any more information that would be helpful...     Hi, I'm trying to interate a struts 1.3.8 app with jcaptcha-1.0; I added the jcaptcha jar to the app lib and added <%@ taglib uri="jcaptcha" prefix="jcaptcha"%> to my form The app couldn't find the file, so I added the following to the web.xml file <taglib-uri>jcaptcha</taglib-uri> <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/jcaptcha-1.0-all.jar</taglib-location> </taglib> And now I get the null pointer exception: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to read TLD "META-INF/taglib.tld" from JAR file Any clues ?   • regarding the Windows Phone 7 series, XNA and Visual Basic

    as long as we're talking about VB... I figured I would share this as well. Hi everyone, I'm about to express a sentiment that might ruffle a few feathers, but I think most of you know me well enough to know I love like accept VB for what it is and that what I'm about to say is with good intentions. (The rest of you, who don't know me, please take my word for it.) The world is full of VB developers, I was one of them for a long time. I think it's safe to assume that none of us are ignorant people who require handholding. We're working professionals, making a living by using our skills as developers. I'm also willing to bet that quite a few of us are fluent in C# as well as VB. It may not be your preferred language, but many of you can do it and you prove that nearly every day. Honestly, I don't know ANY developers or consultants that have only known ONE language ever. So it pains me greatly when I see the word "CAN'T" being tossed around like a crutch... as in "we CAN'T develop for the windows phone or we CAN'T develop XNA games." At MIX, Microsoft hath decreed that C# is the language of choice for developing for the Windows Phone 7. I think it's a safe bet that you won't see VB support if it isn't there already. (Just like XNA... which is up to version 4.0 by now.)  So what? (Yeah... I said it.) I think everyone here can agree that actual coding is only one part of software design and development. There is nothing stopping ANY of you from beginning the process of designing your killer phone app, writing up specs, requirements, doing UI design, workflow, mockups, storyboards, art, etc.... None of these things are language dependent. IF by the time you've got that stuff out of the way, and there's still no VB support, then start doing some rapid prototyping of your app in C# (I know, I know... heresy!)  You still have to spend time learning how the phone does things, what UI tricks do what, what paradigms make sense, how to use to accelerometer and the tilt and the multitouch functionality. I can guarantee you that time spent doing this is a great investment, no matter WHAT extension your code files have. Eventually, you may have a working prototype. IF by this time, there's STILL no VB support... fret not, you've made significant progress on your app. You've designed it, prototyped it, figured out how to use the phone specific features... so you might as well finish it and pat yourself on the back for learning something new... and possibly being first to market with your new app. I'll be happy to argue any and all of these points online or off with anyone who cares to do so, but there is one undeniable point that you simply can't argue:  Your potential customers do not care AT ALL what programming language you used to write the app they are about to purchase. They care that it works. If your biggest concern is being first to market, than stop complaining and get busy because you're running out of time and the 3000+ people who were at MIX certainly aren't waiting for you. They've already started working on their apps.

  • Visual Studio 2010, Entity Framework, and Oracle

    While I was working on a SilverLight 4 demo I found out that Entity Framework is not supported directly through the .NET provider or ODP tools. In order to make them work you need to either write a wrapper of your own (wouldn't chance it) or else use a provider like DataDirect or Quest's upcoming tool. So far, I've been very happy with the DataDirect tool (found here http://www.datadirect.com/products/net/index.ssp). As I get a little farther along I'll post more on SL4, RIA, and EF.

  • Check your Embed Interop Types flag when doing Visual Studio extensibility work

    In case you didn’t notice, VS2010 adds a new property to assembly references in the properties window: Embed Interop Types: This property was introduced as a way to overcome the pain of deploying Primary Interop Assemblies. Read that blog post, it will help understand why you DON’T need it when doing VS extensibility (VSX) work. It's generally advisable when doing VSX development NOT to use Embed Interop Types, which is a feature intended mostly for office PIA scenarios where the PIA assemblies are HUGE and had to be shipped with your app. This is NEVER the case with VSX authoring. All interop assemblies you reference (EnvDTE, VS.Shell, etc.) are ALWAYS already there in the users' machine, and you NEVER need to distribute them. So embedding those types only increases your assembly size without a single benefit to you (the extension developer/author).... Read full article

The following led me to just connect to it, kind of obvious really when you look at your connections string but.. its sunday morning or something.. At a very high level, LocalDB has the following key properties: LocalDB uses the same sqlservr.exe as the regular SQL Express and other editions of SQL Server. The application is using the same client-side providers (ADO.NET, ODBC, PDO and others) to connect to it and operates on data using the same T-SQL language as provided by SQL Express. LocalDB is installed once on a machine (per major SQL Server version). Multiple applications can start multiple LocalDB processes, but they are all started from the same sqlservr.exe executable file from the same disk location. LocalDB doesn't create any database services; LocalDB processes are started and stopped automatically when needed. The application is just connecting to "Data Source=(localdb)\v11.0" and LocalDB process is started as a child process of the application. A few minutes after the last connection to this process is closed the process shuts down. LocalDB connections support AttachDbFileName property, which allows developers to specify a database file location. LocalDB will attach the specified database file and the connection will be made to it.

  • Django facebook integration error

    I'm trying to integrate facebook into my application so that users can use their FB login to login to my site. I've got everything up and running and there are no issues when I run my site using the command line python manage.py runserver But this same code refuses to run when I try and run it through Apache.   • SSIS(sql server integration service) xml data flow

    Hi, I have an xml file the content which i have to write to a Database table using ssis pacakge. I am using xml source nad oledb destination My issue now is this xml file generate multiple outputs .(event,produt,offer,form) etc. But i need to write all in one data row(more than one if 2 products are there for the event) in the database. But i do not know how to use this multiple outputs and make a single row for a event. I hav read numerous articles about this subject but not able to take a decision.what is the right way of doing this. 1) xml source ? (if i use this how do i merge the multiple outputs) 2) or a script task using xml objects read and write to the DB. or anything new ?
