  • How to make a folder (D:\xyz) accessible to only me in Windows-XP?

    Hello, I'm using Windows XP on my lab computer. There is a global folder (d:\xyz). This is my folder and I want this folder to be accessible to only me. It should be invisible even if it is visible they shouldn't be able to open this folder. For now my account has administrative privilages. After few days, I don't know if the Admin lets me have these privilages or not. I heard that soon our XP machines will be upgraded to either vista or windows 7. Will the method of making folder in accessible change for other Windows OSes? How to accomplish this?

  • Website requests not reaching IIS?

    To start off with a confession, I am not a server admin - just a developer tasked with getting to the root of a problem. Please be gentle! I have an intranet ASP.NET website running in IIS on a virtual machine. The website is not accessed very often (the last IIS log file was modified nearly six months ago). Both the IP address and Host header value are now failing to return the website, and the IIS log still doesn't show any more recent activity. The virtual machine was moved to a different physical location a few months ago, and the IP address for it has changed. Could this be what has broken access to the site? What else should I be checking to solve this? I don't have totally unrestricted access to the building's network settings, structures, etc. I would be grateful for any advice, even if I can't use it myself it'll improve my knowledge of what's going on behind the scenes!

    I'm trying to force a particular directory to require only allowed IPs and a valid username/password through basic authorization. To ensure that the username/password are sent in encrypted form, I want the directory to also force SSL use.   • SQL 2008 Reporting Services Report Manager blank on Win 7

    I have installed SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services on my development laptop running windows 7. When I browse to the report manager, only the header is shown. The content pane is blank, and there is no 'Site Settings' option, New Folder options, etc. I found plenty of similar stories about SQL 2005, and then the fix was to manage permissions in the virtual directory in IIS. However, in 2008, there is no virtual directory - RS manages this outside of IIS. Per other serverfault articles, I've tried the following: adding my account to the reporting services group changing the service to run as local system made sure localhost was trusted site in IE ran IE as admin installed SQL Server 2008 SP1 There are no errors in the event viewer. Perhaps related, if I browse to the webservice, I also get the error: The permissions granted to user 'Computer\User' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

Think of the following cases: an mp3 track is downloaded multiple times, copied over various devices on website a login form is often rebuild many times, why not reuse more code? words themselves are used many times questions and answers are accidentally saved at many places in parallel images or photos often describe the same data (Eiffel tower, Golden gate, Taj Mahal) etc etc Are you aware of solutions? Or are you thinking about similar topics? Ideas? Blueprints? I'd love to hear from you!

  • Apache disabled virtual host domains resolve an enabled virtual host

    I have three virtual hosts defined on apache on my Ubuntu server for three different domains. If I disable two of the virtual hosts (a2dissite) and try to resolve those two URL's in the browser, then the one remaining enabled site will resolve. How can I configure apache so that the domains for the disabled virtual hosts do not resolve? (Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64 bit SP2). Any idea please in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In more detail: I have a Windows XP Pro PC at a work location that I want to be able to access my home Windows XP Pro PC and other home computers from. But I also want to be able to connect to the work PC from home. I think the term generally used is a "mesh" network. Can I do this with OpenVPN ? If so how would I do it? What are the most important things to remember to do? EDIT: The work Windows XP Pro PC is largely managed by IT Dept, I do have local admin rights to install things. Some settings are disabled. My main concern was firewalls and port forwarding on the work PC. Any suggestions?

  • Filezilla FTP Server - Security Implications of its usage on Windos Server 2003

    I'm running Filezilla server on my dedicated windows 2003 server. It uses its own user-access control system. The Filezilla server service itself is running under the System user. When I setup users within the FTP Server Administrator Interface, I do not need to setup equivalent users, or adjust permissions on folders to allow users to login. Example: I setup TestFTP user with password 'p' I set the home directoy of TestFTP user to be e:/website I verify that e:/website only has permission for the System and Admin accounts (right click - security in windows explorer) TestFTP is able to login to the server just fine. I'm OK with this (perhaps due to ignorance?). Is it generally frounded upon to utilize a FTP Server such as FileZilla Server that bypasses the built-in UAC in this method? If I wasn't clear enough, please let me know.

    we have IIS7 running on Windows Web Server 2008 R2 and it's set up to support Web Deploy. It worked fine when we used the default Administrator account. We recently disabled this account (for security reasons) and are now trying to deploy using another account which is member of the Administrators group, but the deploy fails with 401 (Unauthorized). More specifically, it says: Connected to '<IP>' using Web Deployment Agent Service, but could not authorize. Make sure you are an admin on '<IP>'. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. Anybody has any ideas why this is happening? Thanks. Trex

    I am about to deploy a web application (in a couple months) with the following set-up (perhaps anyways): Ubuntu Lucid Lynx with: IP Tables firewall (white-list style with only 3 ports open) Custom SSH port (like 31847 or something) No "root" SSH access Long, random username (not just "admin" or something) with a long password (65 chars) PostgreSQL which only listens to localhost 256 bit SSL Cert Reverse proxy from NGINX to my application server (UWSGI) Assume that my colo is secure (Physical access isn't my concern for the time being) Application-level security (SQL injection, XSS, Directory Traversal, CSRF, etc) Perhaps IP masquerading (but I don't really understand this yet) Does this sound like a secure setup? I hear about people's web apps getting hacked all the time, and part of me thinks, "maybe they're just neglecting something", but the other part of me thinks, "maybe there's nothing you can do to protect your server, and those things are just measures to make it a little harder for script kiddies to get in". If I told you all of this, gave you my IP address, and told you what ports were available, would it be possible for you to get in (assuming you have a penetration testing tool), or is this really protected well.

  • Error while deploying a web application in OSGI container using pax web

    Hello I am trying to deploy a web application in a Felix container. I have all the required configuration done with my web app like the setting up of the manifest headers: Webapp-Context: Bundle-ClassPath: Bundle-Activator: Import-Package: Bundle-SymbolicName: etc The Pax bundles that I have dropped in the same container are: pax-web-service-0.6.0.jar pax-web-jsp-0.7.1.jar pax-web-extender-war-0.7.1.jar pax-logging-service-1.5.0.jar pax-logging-api-1.5.0.jar Though it had been written in the pax web site that pax-web-service is included in pax-war-extender, it seems without pax-web-service bundle, all other bundles become handicapped. I had removed the other pax bundles like pax-web-extender-whiteboard-0.7.1.jar pax-web-jetty-0.7.1.jar, as I have not seen any usefulness of those. The pax-web-jetty-0.7.1.jar even does not get start up. it has dependencies which it could not be able to resolve from any one of the bundle provided by PAX.   • Howto return to virtual machine when remote desktop hangs?

    I'm using a vmware virtual machine running ubuntu linux and from there I connect to a Windows XP machine using rdesktop through a VPN tunnel. This configuration is given and cannot be changed. From time to time my internet connection does a reconnect. Then the running rdesktop (running in fullscreen mode) process freezes and isn't usable anymore. Now I want to return to the underlying linux and restart the rdesktop process. But I'm not able to get out of fullscreen rdesktop mode and so I cannot access the ubuntu desktop to kill any process. My solution is to reboot the vmware and start the rdesktop again. Is there a better way to get the configuration running again after a freeze? EDIT: I have no admin rights for the linux system. Everything must be done with user rights.

For example, I have three tables to join (tbl_topics, tbl_items, tbl_votes. Their relationship is defined as following: a topic can have many items and an item can have many votes. Now I want to retrieve a list of topics with the count of all votes on all items for each topic. The SQL query for this is written below: SELECT Topic.*, count(Vote.id) voteCount FROM tbl_topics AS Topic LEFT OUTER JOIN tbl_items AS Item ON (Topic.id = Item.topic_id) LEFT OUTER JOIN tbl_votes AS Vote ON (Item.id = Vote.item_id); My problem is I can do it easily using $this-><Model Name>->query function, but this requires sql code to be written in the controller which I don't want. I'm trying to find out any other way to do this (like find()).

    I am implementing the apc on a shared server that currently has 1000 sites (using wordpress, moodle, etc.). I'm Looking for the admin page, and I see "Cache full count" is growing rapidly. I've tried increasing the value of "apc.shm_size" reduce value "apc.ttl" increase the value "apc.shm_segments" but I can not resolve this issue. What am I doing wrong? I'm putting down some information: apc.ini: extension=apc.so apc.shm_size = 256 apc.enabled = 1 apc.ttl = 300 apc.user_ttl = 300 Ubuntu: 12.04 PHP: 5.3.10 APC: 3.1.7 Server has 16GB memory Limit share memory: 256MB

    Hi, I would like to have a ListView that would have have items similar to Microsoft Outlook inbox with items arranged by Conversations (see the attached photo). An item can either be a simple textblock containing the topic of the conversation (on the photo this are the blue lines) or it can contain email information specified by the ListView's header. It would be best if the items with conversation topics would be push buttons so that emails inside that conversation could be shown or hidden by pressing this button. Any ideas how can I achieve this? Do I specify two ListViewItem templates? If yes, how do I tell in the code which template to use for each item? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!     First of all thank you in advance for helping me. my issue is the old network admin found a problem whene he connected the firewall and the ETSU together the through put went down to less than 1 mega bit a second. his fix was to add a dlink router between the firewall and the etsu which speed it up to 5 mega bits a second. now my boss wants a more clean and proper solution if possible. i have check all the settings in the netgear it dose not seem to be a setting issue. if anyone can help that would be great.

Can anyone explain to me why the final score is so low when none of the filters were triggered? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening? Regards, Martin

    So i just made my first RSS feed, or so i tought, in combination with CI. Now my view DOES display the top of my rss page (Title and Description), But all items are omitted. When i rightclick-view source it DOES contain all the items within the item tags. Can anyone help me?   • Connected 2 routers, but they won't talk

    I'm trying to set up a second WLAN at home (since the Nintendo DS firmware won't connect to my WPA-encrypted main WLAN), but when I connect my second router's WAN port to one of my main router's LAN ports, the routers won't talk, and I can't connect wirelessly to the second router. I can still see the second router's WLAN - I am just unable to connect to it. And it seems that even the main router can't see the second router, despite being plugged directly into it - I went to the main router's admin console and pinged the second router (which is receiving an IP address), but it was unable to reach it! Does anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks!

    I'm using FF 3.5.4. with Secure Login 0.9.3 add on (lovely little thing). After a lot of persuading, my sys admin finally got to me, and I let him install BitDefender on my machine as well ... and naturally, like all anti virus programs do, it had to screw up something, and it was that add on. It says now in the add onns menu, that it isn't compatible with FF 3.5.4. (which is possible, I don' know, but it did work until one hour ago). What to do to make it work again? All ideas welcomed. I really hate writing all that logins/passwords by ahnd.
