• VLC ActivX plugin not playing video in update IE9

  I am using vlc ActiveX plugin on web browser IE9 to play video live streaming.   I'm still new to C but trying to understand it better by working my way through a small MIDI audio unit (in Xcode 4.3.3). I've been searching for an answer to this all day and still don't even understand exactly what the problem is. I know that MIDIServices.h in the CoreMIDI framework defines: typedef void (*MIDINotifyProc)(const MIDINotification *message, void *refCon); But I don't understand if/why that would cause an error. • Mac: How to see list of running network services?

  I am writing an application that needs to connect with a running network service on a Mac. Problem is, I have no idea what the service is called or even what port it uses. Is there a way to browse all running network services on my Mac? More info: I am connecting to a MIDI network session (found under 'Audio MIDI settings', present on all OSX installs). Am I correct in thinking this is a network service? I am planning to use NSNetServiceBrowser to locate all local computers running this service. (is this the best way to go about it?) • Ideas for band site, which technology to use?

  I am attempting to design and build a website for my friends band. There is minimal content to be included such as bio,news,enbemdded Audio/Visual material. My web dev expertise is average. I'm basicaly looking for inspiration, I was edging towards embedding a silverlight deepzoom xap object to add some visual stimulation, perhaps by featuring a high res photo of the bandshardware/equipment which zooms when mouseover occurs. Does anyone have any cool ideas for a central feature for this site, and which way to approact it in terms of technique (js,css,silverlight etc) If anyone has any immediate ideas which they think would be cool then I am eager to hear them! Also if anyone can link me to any cool band sites they have come across recently I would be greatful,nothing too complicated though please I will be doing all the work myself.   I have a voice application that would be much-improved if there was the ability to use a "trigger word" to start recording audio. I don't need a full speech-text engine, just the ability to reliably/efficiently detect the trigger word. I am wondering if there are any specialized speech engines that support this specific use case, or any libraries/methods to developing such a single-purpose detection engine. Ideally I'd like it to work in noisy environments, but it can be trained for a single user's voice. Pointers to research papers / topics would also be appreciated so I know what to ask for.

• Performance: float to int cast and clippling result to range

  I'm doing some audio processing with float. The result needs to be converted back to PCM samples, and I noticed that the cast from float to int is surprisingly expensive. Whats furthermore frustrating that I need to clip the result to the range of a short (-32768 to 32767). While I would normally instictively assume that this could be assured by simply casting float to short, this fails miserably in Java, since on the bytecode level it results in F2I followed by I2S. So instead of a simple: int sample = (short) flotVal; I needed to resort to this ugly sequence: int sample = (int) floatVal; if (sample > 32767) { sample = 32767; } else if (sample < -32768) { sample = -32768; } Is there a faster way to do this? (about ~6% of the total runtime seems to be spent on casting, while 6% seem to be not that much at first glance, its astounding when I consider that the processing part involves a good chunk of matrix multiplications and IDCT)

• Optimum php.ini and my.cnf settings for a small Drupal 7 site on a virtual server

  I looking for advice on how to set up the default configuration of php.ini and my.cnf for a small site (100 pages) with very little traffic (300 visitors per day). All pages have a bit of text, some images, no video, no audio, no flash/silverlight, very little javascript and jquery. For tracking I'm using GA and Piwik. The main site database is around 50MB. The site is hosted on a virtual server with 20GB RAM and 6 vCPUs so there's hopefully a lot of muscle to make it run very fast. I don't know much about tweaking php and mysql settings and would appreciate it if your answers can be as detailed as possible. Thanks

• C++, Ifstream opens local file but not file on HTTP Server

My program works fine when i give location of the local file on my system. for eg /root/Desktop/abc.xxx works fine But once the location is on the http server the file fails to open. for eg http://192.168.0.10/abc.xxx fails to open. • Problem using AudioRecord with 8-bit encoding in android

  Hello, I have made an application that records from the phones microphone using the AudioRecord and 16-bit encoding, and I am able to playback the recording. BONUS When I do get this working correctly, is the ENTIRE CLASS passed with the serialized object (i.e. will I have access to the methods of the object's class)? My reading suggests that the entire class is passed with the object, but I have been unable to use the objects methods thus far. How exactly do I call on the object's methods? In addition to my code above I also experimented with the readObject method, but I was probably using it wrong too because I couldn't get it to work. Please enlighten me.

• Is it possible to have WAMP run httpd.exe as user [myself] instead of local SYSTEM?

  Hello! I run a django application over apache with mod_wsgi, using WAMP. A certain URL allows me to stream the content of image files, the paths of which are stored in database. The files can be located whether on local machine or under network drive (\my\network\folder). With the development server (manage.py runserver), I have no trouble at all reading and streaming the files. With WAMP, and with network drive files, I get a IOError : obviously because the httpd instance does not have read permission on said drive. In the task manager, I see that httpd.exe is run by SYSTEM. I would like to tell WAMP to run the server as [myself] as I have read and write permissions on the shared folder. (eventually, the production server should be run by a 'www-admin' user having the permissions) Mapping the network shared folder on a drive letter (Z: for instance) does not solve this at all. The User/Group directives in httpd.conf do not seem to have any kind of influence on Apache's behaviour. I've also regedited : I tried to duplicate the HKLM[...]\wampapache registry key under HK_CURRENT_USER\ and rename the original key, but then the new key does not seem to be found when I cmd this > httpd.exe -n wampapache -k start or when I run WAMP. I've run out of ideas :) Has anybody ever had the same issue?

I am trying to attach files to mail using, [mail addAttachmentData:attachmentData mimeType:@"image/png" fileName:fileName]; but the problem is that if i need to send a .jpeg image i need to repeat code just for setting mime type to "mimeType:@"image/jpeg". My question is that is there any general mimeType that can attach any kind of file irrespective of .doc,.ppt,.pdf or an audio or video file. is there any general mimeType: for an kind of attachment. • In DirectShow, what determines the graph source?

  Hi all, I have two machines - A (XP SP2) and B (Win7). Machine B has trouble playing OGM files - enabling subtitles causes a crash in the player. Investigation shows that the DirectShow graphs are quite different. On A, the source is a file source, which produces a stream of subtype OGG, which goes into "Ogg Splitter". On B, the source is an instance of Haali Media Splitter, which produces video, audio, and subtitles as separate streams. Machine A has Haali splitter installed as well, but it is not invoked somehow. Question - what determines the source filter? Is there a file type to preferred source mapping, or does the system load and ask all suitable filters if they would take this file? On machine A, the merit of Haali splitter is higher than that of File source, so it's probably not about relative merits.

• Content Types in browsers, can we use the Mime??

  Ok, I am wondering which mime types are dangerous in browsers? That is to say setting the Content Type to that mime type?? Which mime types, if any would pose a security risk?? I am noticing that many forum software, when uploading files, use the application/octet-stream for any files other than images and place that into the Content Type of the header. I am wondering why don't they place the actual mime-type instead into the Content Type? Are there security risks involved with this? So far I have used text/css, text/plain, audio/mpeg, and many others and haven't noticed any difference between application/octet-stream and these others. Does anyone out there know the exact difference, and what makes application/octet-stream any better, or any worse...to use for the Content Type?? Thank You :)
