  • Which Java version do you mostly (have to) work with?

    While from version 5 on, Java provides many extremely useful features like annotations, enums, generics, etc., 1.4 is still in use in many enterprise projects. So I'm wondering what the chances are that you still have to work with 1.4, thus being forced to go without JPA, EJB3 etc. In your answer, please also state the branch of company you work for. Which are the reasons for not switching to Java 5? Thanks, Armin

  • Suggestions on documentation of a DB model when using Entity Framework 4

    Any experiences on how to document Entity Framework 4 based Database projects? There is the Document and Summary properties on the Entities, but if we want to regenerate the model from the database at some point, it will be lost! Is there some way to map documentation data inside SQL to the Entities in the EDMX file so it is safe. Suggestions of other best practices? Ideally I want to be able to augo generate html/helpfile documentation from the DB when we deploy.

We create multiple folders for each environment, and then change the configs in those folders according to the environment. How can we get the same results as what _CopyWebApplication does?   • Folders without Namespaces C#, .Net, VS 2008

    I'm working on an ASP.NET webapp using the MVP pattern, and as I'm organizing my files I'm wondering - are there conventions on folders within projects and how they relate to namespaces? I have a bunch of controls and a bunch of pages, and I was going to throw them into Controls and Pages folders with subfolders, but I didn't know if it was bad form to do this if I wasn't also going to seperate them out into namespaces. I call them mythical because writing 125 tests per person per week is unreal. can any wise soul out there on SO shed some light on what sort of mythical men write unreal quantities of tests for large software projects? thank you.

    (Can't believe this hasn't already been asked, but I can't find a dup) In Visual Studio with lots of projects, when I first open the solution, I sometimes get the warning Object of type "X" cannot be converted to object of type "X". Generally rebuilding seems to make it go away, but does anyone know what this is caused by, and how to avoid it? UPDATE I read somewhere that deleting all your resx files and rebuilding can help. I unthinkingly tried this. Not a good idea...

  • How to Include an xml file from a silverlight class library into the xap file.

    I have a certain config.xml file in one of my projects (Silverlight class library) in a folder in the solution. It's build action is set to content. In that same project I am trying to load the xml file by saying: XDocument xml = XDocument.Load("/config.xml"); This unfortunately is not working. Upon inspecting the xap file, I see that the xml file is not being copied to it. I am using Visual Studio 2010 RC.

    Hi guys, I am implementing Naive Bayesian classifier for spam filtering. I have doubt on some calculation. Please clarify me what to do. Here is my question. In this method, you have to calculate P(S|W) - Probability that Message is spam given word W occurs in it. P(W|S) - Probability that word W occurs in a spam message. P(W|H) - Probability that word W occurs in a Ham message. So to calculate P(W|S), should I do (1) (Number of times W occuring in spam)/(total number of times W occurs in all the messages) OR (2) (Number of times word W occurs in Spam)/(Total number of words in the spam message) So, to calculate P(W|S), should I do (1) or (2)? (I thought it to be (2), but I am not sure, so plz clarify me) I am refering http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayesian_spam_filtering for the info by the way. In the your approach it wouldn't, right?. Lets take a scenario and discuss... Lets say, we have 100 training messages, out of which 50 are spam and 50 are Ham. and say word_count of each message = 100. And lets say, in spam messages word W occurs 5 times in each message and word W occurs 1 time in Ham message. So total number of times W occuring in all the spam message = 5*50 = 250 times. And total number of times W occuring in all Ham messages = 1*50 = 50 times. Total occurance of W in all of the training messages = (250+50) = 300 times. So, in this scenario, how do u calculate P(W|S) and P(W|H) ? Naturally we should expect, P(W|S) P(W|H)??? right. Please share your thought...

  • How can I prevent external MSBuild files from being cached (by Visual Studio) during a project build

    I have a project in my solution which started life as a C# library project. It's got nothing of any interest in it in terms of code, it is merely used as a dependency in the other projects in my solution in order to ensure that it is built first. One of the side-effects of building this project is that a shared AssemblyInfo.cs is created which contains the version number in use by the other projects. I have done this by adding the following to the .csproj file: <ItemGroup> <None Include="Properties\AssemblyInfo.Shared.cs.in" /> <Compile Include="Properties\AssemblyInfo.Shared.cs" /> <None Include="VersionInfo.targets" /> </ItemGroup> <Import Project="$(ProjectDir)VersionInfo.targets" /> <Target Name="BeforeBuild" DependsOnTargets="UpdateSharedAssemblyInfo" /> The referenced file, VersionInfo.targets, contains the following: <Project ToolsVersion="4.0" DefaultTargets="Build" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003"> <PropertyGroup> <!-- Some properties defining tool locations and the name of the AssemblyInfo.Shared.cs.in file etc. --> </PropertyGroup> <Target Name="UpdateSharedAssemblyInfo"> <!-- Uses the Exec task to run one of the tools to generate AssemblyInfo.Shared.cs based on the location of AssemblyInfo.Shared.cs.in and some of the other properties. --> </Target> </Project> The contents of the VersionInfo.targets file could simply be embedded within the .csproj file but it is external because I am trying to turn all of this into a project template. I want the users of the template to be able to add the new project to the solution, edit the VersionInfo.targets file, and run the build. The problem is that modifying and saving the VersionInfo.targets file and rebuilding the solution has no effect - the project file uses the values from the .targets file as they were when the project was opened. Even unloading and reloading the project has no effect. In order to get the new values, I need to close Visual Studio and reopen it (or reload the solution). How can I set this up so that the configuration is external to the .csproj file and not cached between builds?

    Hi, sometimes after logging out and in again, my settings in Tools/Options/Projects and Solutions/VC++ Directories are lost. To investigate the problem I tried to find the file where Visual Studio (2008 Team) stores those settings on disk. (Or is it in the registry?) Can anybody point me to where it is? Thanks a lot!

  • Standalone Version of the VS2010 SharePoint Extensions?

    Visual Studio 2010 has official Extensions for SharePoint 2010, which also includes MSBUILD .targets. I'm setting up a Continuous Integration Server at the moment, and msbuild can't compile my SharePoint projects as these targets are missing. Before I start manually identifying and copying over the SP stuff, I wonder if there is a standalone version so that I don't have to install VS2010 on my CI Server?

  • Rails 3 - development errors in production mode

    Im using Rails, Passenger (both are 3.0.5) and Nginx on my production server. As I heard, Rails should show public/404.html or public/500.html instead of development errors like ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound or Unknown action but that doesn't happen. I've tried to delete config.ru file and set rack_env or rails_env in nginx.conf but nothing helped. UPD: I have both development and production apps on same PC. In production Rails ignores config.consider_all_requests_local = false (in /config/environments/production.rb) due to local_request? method.     We have some applications that are being worked upon in .Net 2.0 since long back. I'm recommending my team to move the base from .net 2.0 to .net 3.5sp1 and focus and leverage from C# 3.0 but I'm facing difficulties in doing so. What are the implications of not migrating to .net 3.5 and C# 3.0 ? What are your experiences on this front and what tactics did you use to successfully migrate your team and projects to .net3.5.
