  • How to stay motivated on the job?

    Hi All, I've been working as an engineer professionally for 15 years for a number of different companies. My question is how do you stay motivated at work? I can generally be easily motivated if I'm working on design, but that seems to be about 5% of my actual work hours. Most of my work seems to end up being fixing problems in existing poorly designed projects. I'd love to hear some feedback from the other members out there. Thank you, Fred

    Hi, I'm a newbie to .NET. I have a class called Project, a project can have multiple forecasts.Now If I want to check if the projects has any forecasts or not should I use a readonly boolean property called HasForecast() or should I use a method named HasForecast() which basically returns a boolean value.From framework design guidelines I came to know that methods should be used when the operation is complex,since here I'm retrieving the value of forecasts from DB should I consider method, or since it is a logical data member should I use a property.If I use a property can I call a method in DBLayer from its getter.Please explain Regards, Ravi

    I have a solution with just under 100 projects in it, a mix of C++ and C# (mostly C#). When working in VS2005, the working set of Visual Studio is considerably smaller than that of VS2010. I was wondering if there are some things that can be turned off, so I can develop in VS2010 under 32-bit OS without running out of memory.

  • continue execution after running some .bat script

    example: buil.bat script start /B webdev.webserver.exe /port:3234 /path:C:\projects\src\XYZWeb /VPATH:/XYZWeb when program run this script also execution stop. How to continue execution after running this script. Problem is that build.bat never end and you must manually close it. i look here http://ss64.com/nt/start.html but no command to conitinue executing while webdev.webserver is running.

    Hi all, I tried this script to copy release folder of one of my Xcode projects to desktop: tell application "Finder" set targetFolder to folder "release" of folder "build" of folder "8_15pm" of folder "26th_March" of folder "XYZ" of startup disk set destinationFolder to folder "Desktop" of folder "miraaj" of folder "Users" of startup disk copy targetFolder to destinationFolder end tell I was expecting that I will obtain a folder named as release on my desktop but I did not get any :( Can anyone suggest me where I am wrong or some better way to do this?? I know it can be changed system wide via the registry ( http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/tcptune/OStune/winxp/winxp_stepbystep.html ) Also, it seems like this is possible *nix via: int on=1; setsockopt(s,IPPROTO_TCP,TCP_RFC1323,&on,sizeof(on)); Is there a Windows equivalent?   • Are there any small scale persisitant document/object databases?

    I have a few .Net projects that would benefit from using a document/object database opposed to a relational one. I think that db4o would be a good choice, but the $1200 commercial price tag is bit too much for us. I'd love to use MongoDb but it's design isn't for small scale, single server applications. Are there other options out there that I just haven't run across for small scale applications?

    I am attempting to manage my projects a little better so I am looking at attempting to apply some of (eventually all) the features of scrum. Looking at user stories specifically the high level format seems to be: As a User I can Feature Description or Artifact is Doing Something How would I write "Upgrade the Database"? Is it simply Upgrade the Database? I think I am being thrown off as there is no specific actor/customer and that the customer is the IT department.

    I have been searching for an easy way to get the hostname of the machine where Symfony runs in Symfony (so that my app adapts when it is used on a host with a different ServerName), but I couldn't find one. I created a variable in app.yml and I fetch it, but I still wonder if there is no easier way to do this. How are you doing this? I'm using Symfony 1.2 and 1.4 on different projects.
