• ASP.Net file upload with an empty posted files collection

  I have an ASP.NET file upload control which sits as part of a form. The file upload control is on the content page while the form definition is on a master page across the site. I've added multipart/form-enc to the form on the master page. I'm using jQuery to submit the form as I show a dialog box from jQuery UI. When I post, no file is returned to the server. The file upload control has no file and HttpFileCollection is empty. How can I find the posted file?

  We're looking for a cheap-to-free "off the shelf" ASP.NET catalogue application, that will meet the following requirements: Support two kinds of listings: Suppliers of Services Suppliers of Products, and their Products Suppliers can be categorised by: Area of specialisation - including sub-categories Location Other data, e.g. where listing came from Versioning of supplier/product details Easy to use management interface Use masterpages so we can drop it into our existing site layout Run on a Windows 2003 server, with .NET 3.5 installed In an ideal world, the following additional requirements might be met: Suppliers can manage their own listings Other products that are available to us (that will obviously need some additional development to meet these requirements) are: Content Management System (MS) Commerce Server - bear in mind we're not selling the products/suppliers, just listing them Simple DB application. I'm happy to knock something up in MCMS/simple DB, I'm just looking to see if anyone's had any experience with off the shelf apps that could save us some time. • Relying on nhibernate's second level cache vs pushing objects into asp.net session

  I have some big entities which are frequently accessed in the same session. For example, in my application there is a reporting page which consist of dynamically generated chart images. For each chart image on this page, the client makes requests to corresponding controller and the controller generates images using some entities. I can either use asp.net's session dictionary for "caching" those entities or rely on nhibernate's second level cache support with using cached queries for example. What is your opinion? By the way I will use shared hosting, is nhibernate's second level cache hosting friendly? Thanks.

• Changing the cursor in asp.net

  I want to change the cursor to an hourglass in my asp.net application to let my users know that the process is running. I searched for an answer and was advised to use javascript as follows. 1) Add this javascript function hourglass() { document.body.style.cursor = "wait"; } 2) then in my code in the page load event: btnImport.Attributes.Add("onclick", "javascript: hourglass();"); When btnImport is the button they click on However this does not work. But if I add an alert to the hourglass function. it does work. Is there some way to get this to work without the alert. Thanks in advance. Bob Avallone

• ASP.Net MVC - Build a load on demand TreeView

  I am wondering how to build a load on demand tree view using ASP.Net MVC. I understand what is involved in creating a JQuery TreeView using lists, but the load on demand part is really confusing me. I don't need the full solution, but can somebody point me in the right direction on where I should start? I have done these plenty of times using WinForms which keeps the view state preserved. One of the issues I am seeing is remembering all the node that have been expanded and not just the newly expanded one. If anyone had some advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

• Windows Server 2008 R2: ASP queries to IIS fail with UAC enabled

  I have some ASP code that creates a virtual directory in IIS. However, when running on IIS7 in Windows Server 2008 R2, the call to GetObject fails with "permission denied". This only occurs when UAC is enabled; the entire process works perfectly if UAC is disabled. Set objIIS = GetObject("IIS://localhost/W3SVC/" & siteNumber & "/Root") siteNumber itself is a valid parameter (as the system works fine if UAC is off). Any ideas of a workaround I can make for this? Unfortunately turning off UAC at this point is not an option.

  Hi, having this really silly problem in ASP.NET MVC 2 with .NET 4. I need to test other pages using localhost, but sometimes I need to show the page to some else on another computer and so need to path out to my machine. In doing so, I need to use relative paths for my and tags. When I test through VS, I use relative path: <script src="../../Scripts/somejavascript.js"></script> <link href="../../Styles/somestyle.css" /> However, when I publish to local IIS, I'm having all sorts of problems beacuse the Scripts and Styles folder are at the same directory level, but it seems like I have to path out differently. For example, in the scenario above the styles will be picked up but the JavaScript won't be. Any ideas on how best to path out, relatively using MVC 2?

  Question is about paths and domains: I have an out-of-the box ASP.NET MVC project (generated by "File-New Project"). On LogOn page it does: return Redirect("~/Account/LogOn");. I have a domain name: mycompany.com, and following file structure on the server: /Root /MyApp (this is where my app goes into) Default.aspx ... I have set up following domain pointer: mycompany.com -> \MyApp When I go to mycompany.com I get an error, something about can't find mycompany.com/MyApp/MyApp/Account/LogOn Question: Where does second /MyApp path element comes from? Note: If I don't use domain pointer and deploy the site to the root - everything works just fine. Note: My hosting provider is webhost4life.com.

  I have a treeView control in ASP.NET page that will be loaded with up to 12,000 nodes in different levels. For example: Node 1 Node 1.1 … Node 1.400 Node 1.400.1 … Node 1.400.6400 Node 2 Node 3 Node 4 According to this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms529261.aspx the node limit is 1000. Is this correct or is it dependent on available memory(please specify value)? Assuming it is correct. is there any way to split the 4600 child nodes in say in chunks of 300 hundred? I am thinking that if dummy nodes are used (previous /next navigation) to navigate the chunks will easy the load of the html page. Sample code in C# will be greatly appreciated. (Or VB.NET if you can not translate it to C#)

Apparently now that the response is compressed using gzip, we have to un-compress the XML response before we can start to work with the data. How should i go about this?

  I have a web application, which works fine if I include my user controls with <%@ Register TagPrefix="mine" TagName="MyUC1" Src="~/UserControls/MyUc1.ascx" %> <%@ Register TagPrefix="mine" TagName="MyUC2" Src="~/UserControls/MyUc2.ascx" %> But I need to use the namespace due to needing to integrate with Umbraco. When I replace the register declaration with: <%@ Register TagPrefix="mine" Namespace="MyAssembly.UserControls" Assembly="MyAssembly"%> I get a null reference exception in the UserControl's Page_Load event (which references an ASP.NET control which is used by the UserControl itself. I find this pretty bizarre, but I've found very little information on how to fix it.

  I have an existing web site and I would like to create a mobile version of it that is more suitable. For instance, the main site uses drop-down menus and we all know those are quite the fail on mobile devices. I would like to redirect to my mobile version (it will be a subdomain of the current site) if I detect a request from a mobile browser. So when they Google something and come to my site, they will automatically see the mobile version (just like Wikipedia). Does ASP.NET provide an easy way of doing this? If not, how can I do it?

  For an ASP.Net MVC application, I'm interested in storing some views and/or partial views in the database so that a few semi-technical users can do some basic view logic. Does anyone have any tips or lessons from experience on doing this? I know Phil Haack wrote a blog post on this about a year ago. He used IronRuby for scripting his views, (which would be fine for me). He created a quick proof-of-concept, but I can't find any other information on the topic. • Show all series' values in stacked bars mouseover (ASP.NET CHART)

  Hi... I'm using the asp.net Chart control to present a stacked bars chart. I can create a mouseover custom tooltip using this code: series.MapAreaAttributes = "onmouseover=\"showTooltip('#VALY');\""; ... which works fine. But I can't seem to find a way to show the rest of the values for the other series in that column. Example: I have 2 series (Paid and Unpaid) making up a single column in the chart. When I mouseover any of the series, I want to show both the value of the moused-over series, but also the other series contained in that particular stacked column. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

• XML Validation in ASP.NET MVC during load

  I'm writing an ASP.NET MVC 2 application where one of the backing stores I plan to support is XML. I have a POCO that represents the settings for the site, along with an XML file to contain these settings. My question is what is the best way to validate this data as it is read from disk in to the POCO? I know I can use an XSD, or maybe use the Data Annotations library to mark up the POCO, and use reflection to validate the data, but is there another way, perhaps in .NET 3.5 or MVC to do this? I've spent some time Googling this issue, and want to be sure I'm doing it in the best manner. Thanks in advance!

  I have been tasked with developing a single Login and Dashboard page that user can login too, the user will then be shown all the systems (we developed) that they have access based to based on some roles stored in our databases. If they logged in we would like that "User Session" (not sure of correct terminology) to be carried to which ever system they are redirected too. To illustrate a very rough overview of what I want to achieve: Is there a way that a user can login in one site, and then carry over that login to the other sites?   We are using ASP.NET ReportViewer Control to render rdl files. In the rdl files we have set the font to “Century Gothic” and in preview mode it renders the fonts nicely. However – when it gets rendered on browser we see the fonts defaulted to “Times New Roman”. I tried couple of things without success: 1. Setting the font family of the page () 2. Setting the FontNames of the ReportViewer control Please let me know how we can render the fonts to Century Gothic. One more thing is I don't see Century Gothic in the list of available fonts in the HTML Editor inside Visual Studio 2010. Do I need to add them somewhere?

• ASP.NET Deployment under IIS7/VS2010 as Web Application

  I transformed my VS2008 ASP.NET Website to a "Web Application" today using VS2010. So now it's possible to build a Deployment Package. A Zip Package which can be direclty imported into IIS7. Usually I added a website in IIS7 called mydomain.com and put everything in its root dir. That worked. However, since I converted to an Web Application, this Application is added beneath my "Website container". Now I'm confused, this is how it actually looks now when I try to open the website: Browsing to mydomain.com says 404 ERROR. Browsing to mydomain.com/mydomain.com opens the actual website, but in a subfolder instead of the root directory. (The Application is named after the Domain) How to make this application the root of the website now? I want the application to run under the mydomain.com ROOT and not some subfolder. Thanks a lot!
